I was just curious to know this from a long time.
Will there ever be a Lite Windows Phone 7 ROM for phones that are lesser than 1GB processor.
If so, what are some of the things we might have to sacrifice??
Just a question and a no offence to any1...
Thanx...healthy arguments are welcome...
Your beloved X1 or any other non-snapdragon phone doesn't meet requirements, the processor simply isn't capable of running it on instruction level, it requires ARMv7 processor, while all other <Snapdragon are ARMv6 only capable (WM requires ARMv4i).

Thanx al ot for ur reply..I got it...no WinPhone 7 for me....
BUt how about a Lite ROM???
Minus a few things mayb....its the famous game of 'wait and watch'
WP7 IS Lite, the only thing you could remove is all 3D animations and such, which probably would require deep changes in the core which also probably would break compatibility with all WP7 Apps. You would also need to recompile the OS for versions lower than ARMv7, which would require the source code, which only Microsoft have. Microsoft know exactly what they are doing so they wont open support for old crap devices. There is a reason that they broke backwards capability.
TL;DR: Get a new phone instead, there will never be a "lite" ROM of this.

Sigh...
Sad but true. Thanx anyways...its a lil bit like IE9 not being compatible with XP....
Such a ROM would be instantly banned from XBox Live, etc. when you try to connect. Microsoft already has the infrastructure in place to do it. I would be a dumb phone with a cute UI, basically.
Same goes for WP7 ROMs ported to other devices.

ha ha ha ha no never ever ever !!!!! Supporting devices slower than 1ghz was why windows mobile was introuble in the first place they allowed their os on crappy devices!!!!! Now windows phone 7 will never be on crap phones with these new restrictions and i agree with the minimum requirements 100% go microsoft for killing low-end crap windows mobile crashboxes
Also there is no need for Microsoft to develop a Windows Phone 7 Lite for new entry-level handsets. At the moment Windows Phone 7 is used only in high-end handsets, because of the strict hardware-requirements. But with time, this hardware will become cheaper and therefore Windows Phone 7 will be available in entry-level handsets. I guess you can get a WP7 device for 200€ instead of the current 500€ in two year.
What does 'entry level handset' mean?

My older thread didn't help me much and this might help me more because now, i'm going to buy a phone within this week but i'm thinking of buying Wave, because of it's 1 ghz cortex a8 processor and GPu PowerVR sgx 540 which is proven to be the fastest among single core processors (not including tegra). To be hoenst, PowerVR sgx 540 performs just like tegra 2 GPU and is more or less the same GPU used in iphone 4.
Question is, which one to buy? keeping in mind that android is comming to wave sooner or later, what do you guys say? do you think android would work on wave (dual boot) so that the bada OS is also secured. Now my options are:
-LG optimus one (around 170$)(wifi is b/g only)
-Samsung wave (Around 299$)
-Samsung galaxy ace (349$)
-Samsung galaxy mini (around 179$)
These are the only phones i want to choose from because others are either expensive or useless (not android). I don't think that galaxy ace would be a very good choice despite the fact that it has no flash support (decreases 50% surfing on internet). About wave is that, bada sucks for now as there aren't cool widgets, apps available. About Optimus One, it is cheap, which is a good thing but the pixels are way too low and it runs a 600mhz processor which cannot run at least 50% of the good games without lag.
Now i can only trust you guys to help me as this will allow me to choose my phone and i really want some good suggestions. Thanks a lot in advance

Sorry i didn't understand what you mean by "nope.avi" and tbh you seem like a noob to me and yet you're making a useless post
It's too bad that there's no Q & A section for bada or i could've made a thread there :/

If you wish Android on Wave (II) you need to wait... long, loooonger, very loooooooooooooooong.
So the answer is later. Much later.
If you can't wait. Then your first choice should be an Android handset.
And yes, sorry. Its very hard to answer as normally we are in Software&Hacking section of XDA...
And this is your second try and buy Thread.

Thanks for your reply, also the project you're working on, does it apply to wave II as well or only for Wave?
Android project is at very very early stadium.
Pre pre Alpha... and oleg_k is the only person who have seen Android on his Wave. NO ONE else.
I have no idea when second person can confirm running Android on Wave.
oleg_k uses additional Hardware called JTAG.
Costs around 200 Euro... see here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=898996
We all have to wait. Maybe weeks, maybe months...
Best Regards
Currently all android ports being worked on are for wave I. So if you are buying waveII, you will have to wait much longer.
Now on your opinion to buy a handset,
1)Do not buy wave in the hope of getting android in it later or sooner. We don't know all the problems we might face after loading android onto our phones. So if you want Android, go for galaxy ace.
2)Bada has a scope of improvement and you can see its progres by taking a look at the app store. Every week some new good games are coming, either ports or original stuff. Now Bada has apps like Fruit Ninja, Plants vs. Zombies, Doodle Jump and many other games which people were longing to see on the samsung app store. Eventually, more apps will arrive. But don't buy Wave if your only interest is apps and widgets. If you can give bada some time, then you can go on to buy the wave.
3)And if you are looking for a rock solid hardware, go for Wave! Wave's hardware can't be matched by any other single core phones for now. The wave in fact has a better gpu than Iphone 4. So Wave is the best bet for your budget. Also the screen quality and Multimedia experience is really amazing. Also its out of the box ability to play almost all of the video formats including Divx HD and Xvid along with subtitles will make you want to buy the Wave. Remember that currently Bada has few problems in properly utilizing the RAM. So you might get memory errors sometimes even though it has more than 512 MB of ram on it. I don't know if the memory issues have been solved on Wave II or not but atleast Wave currently faces this problem.
So now you are left to your choice. My personal recommendation is the Wave! I am saying this after using an Iphone 4(Which got stolen ), an HTC Desire and now my beloved Wave!
My opinion is go with wave because it has wonderful design and no other samsung phones has better design like wave. also bada 2.0 looks more promising..
Maybe we can get android on wave within weeks but it will be pre alpha version and you cant expect all functionalities work and maybe few functionalities will never work.
Multimedia side wave rocks. but if you interested in apps then go for android device..Now your choice
scout for a dual processor
Got Wave II for some days. The biggest problem is lack of apps for bada, which is semi rapidly fixed, samsung is spending alot of cash into its development, so it is getting better month by month (comparing bada 1.0 to 1.2 for eg.).
It has got very powerful CPU and GPU, but haven't seen yet a game that uses more than like 30% of its power, but if you don't mind about games and weird apps like remote sattelite controllers which for sure can be found for Android. If you only want to have smoothly running device with some gadgets - I do recommend it.

As far as I know Wave II is the same hardware as Wave I, except the LCD display. So port for Wave I = port for Wave II with abit different LCD driver.

The hardware might seem equal from outside but there are many internal differences. The main feature still remain the same. If wave II = wave I, then 1.2 update would be available to wave I users as soon as wave II was released. But that is not the case. Wave II use different boot loaders and firmware files. So please read through the forum before to get more info.
ive read that sony are thinking about making more high end andoird devices Playstation certified? Could they?
From what I gather, the "Playstation Certified" certification is to be expanded, though the lack of PSOne titles being released suggests they may be slowing up.
In the UK, there is a consensus that the launch of the Xperia Play was a bit of a flop which seems to be why it's been possible to get it relatively easily for less than £200 here which might lend to idea that there won't be a 'sequel'.
The last i heard on the subject, SE thought the Play still had plenty of mileage left in it so they were looking to support that for longer instead of doing Play 2 already
Verizon Wireless in the states is already trying to get rid of it's stock, $49.99 with 2 year contract, came out at $200 with a contract. They are discontinuing it due to lack of sales. Problem was on TV they were advertising the Droid 3, On Hulu they were doing the same advertisement for the Xperia Play.
My only complaint about the Xperia is lack of CDMA development and it's poor amount of on board memory.

well, i had another theory, yes, the play didn't sell well in the UK/elsewhere, but i think its being heavily discounted/discontinued now because a play 2 is coming and now that there is no sony ericsson, sony will probably want to integrate a PSP into a phone rather then whatever the play was supposed to be
also, look at most android phones, most of them have sequels, even the unsuccessful ones
the possibilities of a true PSP phone are to great for sony to just abandon the idea now, especially after SE's half assed attempt

When I got mine like 3 months ago the guy at the verizon store was shocked I asked for it, had 1 in stock, and almost asked me if I was on crack for even wanting it.
Meanwhile its the best 50 bucks I ever spent.
Well remember the recent news that Sony has purchased the other half of Sony Ericsson. Sony Ericsson said they don't plan on launching an Xperia Play 2 soon but now that Sony is 100% in charge, I expect something big.
I mean the Xperia Play was outdated on launch. The only thing it had going for it was the gamepad (and dual speakers )
I want a dual core or quad core Xperia Play and I am expecting one to come out next year.

You really need to stop jumping on the dual core wagon! Neither android nor any applications are optimised for dual core CPU's, meaning even with the extra power there is no performance increase
I always wanted a portable emu. Xplay will be used by me for many years to come. The fact that i can make a phone call, sms, go on the internet, and take pic/video with it is just gravy. Imho this is the best device i have ever owned.

QFT I went from an Atrix (1.3ghz OC) to the XP and I can tell you as far as speed there is no difference. I would like to have a little more ram in the XP but it's not a big deal. When I get rid of the XP I hope there's a XP2 or something because I'll go through serious withdraws.

I agree, dual ccore on a phone is currently a marketing scam. What good is a second core if it cant be used?
Maybe a few years from now there will be a dual core capable os but right now there isnt.
On top of that when there is all current dual core phones will be long discontinued
If you got a phone becuase its dual core just call yourself a sucker

I understand that but most new developers are only releasing their games on what they call "Powerful dual core devices"
The Xperia Play is the only device that could fully use dual core because it is a real gaming phone. I'm really surprised that it wasn't more powerful. I meant at least put in that 1.4ghz processor in the ARC S. The whole Xperia Line should have launched with that processor.
Sonys ps certification announcement meant they will start licensing PS certified to other manufacturers so that they can expand their market. I'm thinking they want to eventually certify it to all android phones. It doesn't necessarily need a playpad for sony to certify it.

Agreed. However if we are talking about a possible late 2012 release for the 'play 2' then can we assume there will have been more development put into the dual/quad core apps/os etc.? Especially with devices like the transformer prime coming soon, the quad cores are sure to implemented in phones next year.

Understood and agreed, but my comment was aimed at the fact that some people think the play is underpowered for the current generation of mobile, but the fact is although on paper the play is nothing special. The way android is atm and thanks to a couple of tricks by sony like dual channel ram, the play gamewise can hold it's own with any of the current generation of mobile, including dual core phones like the atrix

Afaik ICS will be optimised for dual core phones, Thats pretty obvious as the Galaxy Nexus (The official google developer phone for ICS) will be a dual core device
If they make a new device, Sony needs to implement actual analog sticks, not these touch pads. It would truly utilize the potential of a gaming phone and be commercially acceptable to everyone who doesn't want to deal with touch pads, especially the FPS loving crowd. The ONLY other thing I really wish the Xplay had was physical analog sticks (something like the PSP, or what the Vita will have). Sony needs to learn how to make the sticks pop out when the phone slides up. THAT would be wicked righteous amirite???

ICS may be more optimized for dual core phones, unfortunately apps still won't be so I don't think everyone is going to see the improvement they're expecting. Heck there really aren't even many multi core apps for computers besides some games and graphic design programs. Just my .02

Pretty much true yes. With ICS dual-core support will be supported as far as I know. But then it's also up to the develeper to add support for it in the app I belive?
I really notice no difference in speed on things when using my Play or my work buddies Samsung Galaxy SII. I need no dual-core that sucks more battery.
Ok, so I just ordered a Mi Max 128GB/4GB for Black Friday (from geekbuying) and was wondering if this device can actually support OpenGL ES 3.2, and I am asking if it can support it hardware-wise cause I know it won't work on android <7.0, so anyone know?
Adreno 5xx series GPU's have full support for EGL 3.2 with Android extension along with Vulkan support. So it's expected that they will be supported in Android 7~7.1.
Edit: & Android 7.0.1 is definitely coming (probably early next year in stable update):

Thank you, that's what I was expecting as well but even on Qualcomm's site the specs of the 510 are not clearly stated, also good to know we will in fact get 7.0.1 (although I plan to stay away from MIUI).
This should mean we might even be able to get at least somewhat decent Wii&GC emulation on this device in the future which is pretty exciting for me since there are still a lot of games I bought and never got around to finishing or even playing.

Don't have to high hopes that Dolphine emulator will fly on Adreno 510, the driver's especially sheder compiler are far cry from anything good also hardware capabilities (EGLS 3.2, Testilation engine & Vulkan compatibility) don't count much without proper & good driver's support. On the current Android gaming scene A510 is wonderful but it won't shy with Dolphine (nothing will, best behaviour you will have with New Rogue series [Imagination Technology] but their is no any newer SoC for Android with it we will see how will MTK X30 behave 2Q next year).
Edit: By the way this whose a best deal for it when I searched wanting to buy a full prime one in the mean time I decided not to go with it & instead both a 3/32GB S650 version in land where I live. But search again me by you can find a better deal.

I did not say it would fly but it would have at least somewhat decent performance which for me means playable, especially since most of the games I want to play are for GC not Wii and are RPG games (except perhaps the Sonic Adventure games but I can play the DC version of those if the performance is too bad), the only few Wii games I would like to play would anyway not be practical (if possible at all) because they use the huge mess that the Wiimote is (mainly Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World).
Plus I have seen Snapdragon 808 with the 7.0 dev preview (OpenGL ES 3.2 supported) running Dolphin quite well and even with lower performance that would be enough for me.
Either way I would probably end up starting the games and not finishing them for a long time as I keep doing, start them while traveling and then too busy with College and stuff to finish them and then start an other game (like I did with 7th Dragon 3 on my 3DS, Tales of Eternia for PSP and countless others) but it would still be nice to know I at least have the possibility of playing those games on the go.
Well A518 can all A418 on S808 can & probably a little more in time when drivers support all capabilities along with games/emus. Then that is settled its enough for you & it is a pleasurable experience to play on such a large display.
Best regards.
Many of you saw the Geekbench Scores of the S9 Exynos.
Scores are ~3700 in single core and ~9000 in multi core.
Now I saw this article and the line where it says the Exynos will be tuned down to match the (much slower) Snapdragon model got my attention...
Can someone who has a retail unit (store worker,..) confirm the high Geekbench scores?

After reading your post and the page you linked... I have absolutely no words. I already bought (pre-order) the S9+ SM-G965FD just because of the Exynos 9810. (Specially after looking at the CPU benchmarks that you are referring to) Every single year, the Exynos outperforms the Snapdragon... not by much... but it is ALWAYS better... Better performance, better battery live, runs cooler... etc. But... this particular year (with the S9/S9+), after watching a bunch of YouTube videos, online reports and benchmarks, it seemed like the Exynos was going to totally kill the Snapdragon variant. I really hate the Qualcomm Snapdragon with their locked bootloader, locked everything, mediocre CPU performance. I hate it as much as I hate Apple. So... I really really really hope that information does not apply to a real consumer S9/S9+ unit. As soon as I get my S9+, the very 1st thing I am going to do is run Antutu 7 and Geekbench 4.
So... as OP mentioned... we need some Samsung Exynos 9810 vs Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 benchmarks... (real retail S9/S9+ unit)
@TEKHD
Absolutely.
The first thing I do when I get my S9 is running a Geekbench.
If single core is not ~3700 and multi core ~ 9000 I send it right back.
I know some say benchmarks are useless but this clearly shows if the new Exynos is a big step up or not. S7 and S8 almost had the same CPU/GPU power.
DON'T tune it down Samsung. Please..
I read the same thing, its going to deter people from getting the exynos and piss off people who buy it and find out later.
Samsung get more and more stupid as the years pass honestly
Why don't we wait and see some real life results. Let's not ignore the fact that while it scores lower in some benchmarks, Snapdragon is so much better in games and emulators than Exynos. Just look at the tests comparing S8 variants. If it's again the same story, Snapdragon is the better choice.

Not for my usage. As soon as we get root, BL unlock and some sources (obviously this will come first for Exynos than SD), there will be custom kernel and overclock/overvolt to help us enjoy the full performance of Exynos variant.
So going for SD845 is not a better choice, it just depends on your usage (do you plan to unlock BL ? root ? magisk ? custom kernel ?)

The crapdragon will have a locked BL which automatically means it cannot be a better choice.
Theres only 2 reasons why anyone on xda would bother with it.
Your on verizon in which case exynos wont work or you really need carrier features like wifi calling or Volte. Other than that I have no idea why anyone here on xda would waste money on BL locked device when you have another option.

Based on past experience (there are many youtubers demonstrating this) Snapdragon runs better in games. And not just a "little" better, "much" better as in twice as fast in many cases.
BL will hopefuly be unlocked in the near future. Root will come regardless.

Thats always been true, games are better on the snapdragon yes. So then thats reason number 3 but if your that into gaming likely you have a killer PC to play on anyway
The BL will never get unlocked however and as long as you dont mind an 80% limit on charging your device yes there is root.

I certainly don't spend a 1000 $ on a device to use it just for calls and emails. I mean, c'mon
While I have a PS4, lately my gaming machine has been mainly my phone, on the go, as i'm always on the move and not @ home so much.
Hope both versions are great for gaming this time. That exynos geekbench score is simply amazing.

Got to have gaming performance! Least being on the go having something on the go is always nice, even better when it really rocks with fantastic performance.
Find it interesting so far we've seen geekbench scores of both, and we have decent details on the SD GPU but not much on the exynos one.

Why don't we wait and see some real life results. Let's not ignore the fact that while it scores lower in some benchmarks, Snapdragon is so much better in games and emulators than Exynos. Just look at the tests comparing S8 variants. If it's again the same story, Snapdragon is the better choice.

Dude , some of the emulators were slower on exynos because they weren't optimized for exynos. Not because of the GPU.

Actually, the devs of the Dolphin emulator (Game Cube and Wii) confirmed that Exynos lacks some vital (for their development) instructions that Snapdragon has. There are already vids appearing online (youtuber Techutopia for example) that prove how Exynos in S9 is still sub par (to even Snapdragon 835) in games. Of course, there are factors involved, but the picture slowly becomes clear. And it's the same as last year.

Exynos isn't easy to develop. Doesn't mean the exynos isn't capable of it.
I this point performance doesn't matter too much. Only thing that takes advantage of performance is when you're processing video/images, in which case it's a couple seconds usually, Or gaming, Most mobile games are light, and the heavy ones would have a marginal difference in quality.
I'm new to rooting and stuff, but pretty sure people can undownclock it right?
Also quick question does nerfing exynos performance result in better battery life? And does exynos have same battery life as snapdragon when it isn't nerfed? In the anandtech article it was something about task scheduler and not down-clocking, so it may have the same battery life, in which case I guess you could bring it back to peak performance and then down-clock for better battery.
With locked boot-loaders I read something a while ago that it isn't qualcomms fault (Other phones with same thing are easier). I think Samsung does it but that doesn't make sense as they are the ones that make exynos. I personally am going to get the Exynos note 9.
Take everything I said with a grain of salt, I'm a noob at rooting (I haven't rooted a phone yet, was going to do my OP5 before it got stolen)
I find it odd that while the Exynos performs good at single task benchmark, the SD kills it in Photo editing and other benchmarks.
I doubt it's tuned down but just a few select benchmarks out there right now aren't showing the full picture between these two devices right now. Time will tell so it's a wait and see.

Hey bro. Are you familiar with emulators on android? If yes, could be please test the game Mushihime-Sama (mushisam in MAME) in the Retroarch emu (from PlayStore) with the Mame 2014 core? I know i am being very specific, but it's been a sort of quest of mine for a few years: finding an android smartphone able to play this game at constant 60 fps. Thanks and congrats on you purchase!

Sorry- don't know anything about emulators. I've downloaded Retroach and Mame 2014 but how/where do I get the game you mentioned from?
