Hi there,
Recently on my Sony Xperia M mobile phone the brown paper thing on the inside of the power button fell off, and now it doesn't do anything.
I managed to switch it on with the volume button, as I have the GEM Xperia addon for Xposed (if you don't have root then hold the camera button)
My warranty expired last year. I cannot take screenshots either, plus I will need a lot of help. Could someone please recommend me:
> An way to switch on the phone when it is fully switched off
> How I can get it fixed
> How to get the 'Power menu' when you long press the power button (screenshots as well, etc)
Thanks. I am posting here because I have had a great experience with this forum, lots of helpful users.
All help welcome,
- Rob
I have the same problem. Use a small piece of aluminum foil

This part could be easily replaced on the device. Either do it yourself or give it to local mobile repairing shop.

my guess is no...
explanation:
if you say it switches offas soon as you put the battery in then how will it work?
You can use a pin, or a plastic toothpick end to slide around the power button to get rid of some of the gunk from the juice. I have used this method to get my button unsticky before. Just don't go too far in and use gentle back and forth rubbing motions.

Try this!
I love this phone! But one thing is really annoying.
I keep this phone in my jeans pocket, but often while walking I hear the reboot sound. The power button is pressed in my pocket. And if this happens long enough, the phone will reboot, even when the phone was locked...
Is there a way to disable this behaviour?
If you install Widget Locker Lockscreen I think you can disable Power button at lockscreen but I don't use this app anymore for several months.
That's a paid app. Seems excessive just to disable this annoying behaviour
seems weird to me. I never had a reboot when phone was in my pocket. Prior to note 2 I had a S2 with same power button construction and behavior, and never expriened this.
Do you use a silicon protecting case? Those cases put a small but excessive pressure on side buttons thus a little push will trigger buttons.

No, I'm using it bare.
Hold your phone, locked with the screen off, and keep holding the power button. You'll see that it'll start rebooting.
I'm not wearing skinny jeans or anything like that, the phone has plenty of room in my pocket... But apparently it's enough to press the button e.g. while driving with my seat belt on.
The annoying thing is that I sometimes don't hear it rebooting and then I'm unreachable for hours until I look at my phone and input the sim code again. Now that I think of it, I think I'll disable sim code input, that will at least connect me again after a reboot.
The problem apparently already existed with the Note 1:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1369805
On further googling, this actually is the soft reset feature!!
There goes my hope of disabling it...
EDIT: Another happy user: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1401852
I guess it would be possible to disable soft reset, but you'd need to build a kernel with the feature.

Try this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nezdroid.lockscreenprotector
Hi all i made an app to avoid this, blocking power menu on lockscreen no need of root working on 2.2+ and you can set up a custom menu (power and reboot need root) so you should take a look and if you like please leave a 5 stars, or let me know any issues
this is only for lockscreen , when you are outside lockscreen you have the normal power menu
here its the link to play store

EDIT
Or with a rooted phone:
Once the phone is rooted, you install an app called Root Explorer which you get from the Google Play Store.
With this app, do the following please
Go to system > usr > keylayout
Find seckey.kl
Made backup from seckey.kl file.(copy paste in same place then rename or paste to other folder)
Change seckey.kl permission to become 0777, so we can edit the file.
Using text editor open secky.kl
find
KEY 116 POWER WAKE
edit to become
KEY 116 POWER
Save the change
Change seckey.kl permission back to 0655
Reboot the device

If my phone was rebooting in my pocket I would guess a ROM issue before imaging I'd pressed the power button too long.
Perhaps it's time to charity shop those skinny jeans.
Just in case somebody out there running a custom ROM has got the same problem and looks for an easy workaround:
There is a Xposed Module that allows you to modify the power button menu to your preferences and also to completely disable it when the phone is locked.
I have not tested it yet and it is unfortunately discontinued by the developer, but it looks pretty solid to me.
It was intended to run on Sony Xperia devices, but also works on many other devices with AOSP based ROMs.
ATTENTION: It does NOT WORK for TOUCHWIZ ROMs although you can install it to them via Xposed Installer!
Head over to the Advanced Power Menu XDA-Thread.
Cheers!

It really isnt mate. Take off back battery cover, take out battery - simcard and sdcard, undo the six (think its 6) screws, take off the plastic that the battery sits in and ur done. Thats all u need to do so u can check the power button, make sure its not pushed in r stuck.

Not possible. With the power completely off.... The capacitive keys won't work.
Your options can be found in some custom roms, or kernels for waking the device tho.
There's sweep to wake, found in some kernels.
Or volume button to wake. Found in some roms. You'd have to read the opening posts or ask in those threads to see which have those options.
If your device is powered off tho.... I'm not sure if pulling the battery and putting it back in starts the phone or not.... Been awhile.
Either way... You're in for lots of inconvenience. Personally... I'd phone shop. Used phones are a cheap option.... The Moto G or E are very cheap... Brand new. The S2 is pretty old now.... Paying to have it repaired is an option... But the money is probably better spent towards an updated phone.
Just my opinion. ?
Well I managed to remap the search button as the power button but you are right it does not work when the phone is in sleep.I am using Shadow ROM and it has the volume wake option so I use the volume buttons to wake the phone and the search button to put it to sleep. It's a little inconvenient but it works. The only problem I could face would be that if the phone somehow hangs and I have to turn it off by taking out the battery then it will not turn on without plugging in the charger.I just hope this situation does not come.
I think I will run this S2 for a few months and then move on to some other phone.Right now I am thinking of a Windows phone such as Lumia.
Can you also tell your opinion about that?
Thanks for the reply.

See my signature. No windows phones. Lol
I know the one Lumia had an awesome camera... 1020 or something. But mediocre reviews on the rest of the phone. And using that camera apparently destroys the battery life. Lol
Also, windows "apps" have a long way to go. Compared to Apple and Android anyway.
But... To each their own. ?

My honest opinion:
I hate windows 8 anything (lol) especially their phones. Apple iPhone is ehh, but better than windows. Everyone seems to love their OnePlus One's and the LG G3.

Hi, I have a little doubt about my z1c. Power button is soft, spongy. When I push it I don't fell the classic "click", the one that I can feel, forma example, with volume button and camera button. Is it right? Or my power button is going to break?
I can't remenber how it was on day one and yesterday I saw an xperia z3 and noticed that the power button is different from mine.
Can anyone give me 30 seconda of his life to tale a look at his z1's power button?
Just to free my mind
Thank you
My power button has always felt a bit hard to push. It does push in a bit if I just drag my finger over it without doing anything. I've been using a program called "Gravity screen" (there are other similar to it) to turn my screen on and off. I rarely use the button now, just for restart or shutdown mostly.
I'll take a look at the app. So, you don't feel the "click" when you push it?
Mine was the same. I sent it to the warranty.

Didn't recieve it yet. I damaged the button because I pressed it too hard.
Some of my colleagues have Sony products (Z1) and had indeed the click there. Same goes for other Z1 Compact phones (I asked).
The part is easy to replace. But if you have your phone in warranty you should send it there.
BTW, the button was fully functional
