Hi, for those on VZW UNL plan, you can enable native tethering using this method, on DT2:
http://android.stackexchange.com/qu...xus-5x-6p-without-a-subscription-plan-root-an
1.open the sim tray but don't take out the sim card.
2.push the sim tray back in the phone.
3.wait 4-5 seconds and then activate hotspot in the settings->more->tethering
Until someone finds a root to disable entitlement check.
Hopefully others will report it works for them. Horribly inconvenient since the sim tray is flush
It's not too bad, you don't need to take the sim out, just push the tray with the needle, it'll stick out by 1-2mm then push it back in.
didnt work for me I cant activate the hotspot until the sim is activated and then I get the message stating I need to activate with verizon.
Try only pressing hotspot on/off toggle when the bars appear in notification bar, but just before "4G LTE" appears, it's roughly 1-2 seconds time.

It works for me. Thanks! I may actually decide to keep this phone now rather than switch to something that can be rooted.

Do you have a micro SD card in as well? I'm wondering if that plays a factor in it. Do you have any special settings on your phone? It doesn't seem to work for me either.

Correction, I was able to get it to work

Okay, wow... Cancel the previous posts... I got this working.
Step By Step:
1. Pop out SIM just enough to have tray eject
2. Reinsert & unlock phone
3. Pull down notification drawer, pull down again to get to the quick settings tiles
4. Wait until the Sim card icon changes to the completely empty signal bars icon
5. Hit the hotspot button
All in all the process should take about 10-15 seconds from ejecting the sim till 4 g service comes back. The important part is step 4.

I did this as well. It took a couple of tries, but this is awesome news! This was about 90% of the reason I wanted root. Now my phone is complete!
The wifi hotspot will not work for me. But I can turn on bluetooth tether and it works fine. I have tried to get wifi tether to work and it just never connects no matter what I do.
Also, if you do not have your handy little moto tool (sarcasm), you can turn the phone off and then back on again. Go to settings, more, tethering and hotspot, then toggle on wifi or bluetooth tether before you gain a signal. I cannot get wifi to work no matter what I do, but I always get bluetooth to work. This has came in handy for me to be honest. I have 2 boys and my oldest swims for a swim team. The meets are sometimes 7 or 8 hours long. Some places he swims has wifi, others don't. So this has been a lifesaver for me. Thanks so much for posting this workaround!
So cool !
I was hitting the hotspot widget more than one because it wouldn't light up right away. Soon as you see the signal widget change tap the hotspot once. Also I change my hotspot time out to "never shut off". This way it stays on until I say so. Just wanted to try and help people like me that have problems with simple instructions
Even simpler method: reboot the phone, as soon as it gets to the home screen pull the notification bar down, while service icon says "Emergency Only" press Hotspot widget once. Hotspot will activate.

Brilliant, thank you. Wish I'd've thought of it myself.
Edit: you can also avoid rebooting by using an app called Network Signal Refresher. Hit refresh, hit hotspot, bang you're good.

I can't remember if it was CM6.1 rc1, rc2, or rc3 but some where along the line the 2g 2g/3g toggling has gotten weird. If I switch the data symbol on the top (G,E,3G, or H) goes away and I never get data back. If I mess around and toggle it a few times it eventually comes back, if I reboot the data comes back until I try to toggle again. Does anybody have any suggestions?
I googled this problem and found one person that had a similar issue and some one else responded saying they got a new sim card and that fixed the problem. I just can't see how the sim would have anything to do with this and more importantly I don't want it to be the sim. I was hoping for a "not leave the house or open my wallet" sort of solution

T-mo practically gives away sim cards. No joke, I used to get new ones all the time, my old phone fried them like no other.
Anyway, it's actually quite possible that it is the sim card. People have solved low signal issues with a SIM replacement, likewise, issues with connectivity after switching frequencies could have something to do with a damaged or worn sim card. If you found someone with a similar problem that solved it with a SIM replacement then that would be my first step if I were you. After that I would redownload and reflash your ROM, to eliminate corruption.
thanks for the response, maybe I will get a new sim, I just wonder what I should say as far as why I think I need a new one.

Disregard the random thanks, I'm still not used to the quote button not being on the outside haha.
I don't know, the store I go to, if I just walk in and ask for a new sim card they just ask for my account info and give me one. If they ask for a reason just say you're having connectivity issues or that your phone isn't recognizing your SIM anymore. They won't pursue it, it's an incredibly inexpensive card.
Also, why isn't there an "unthanks" button. Kinda sucks xD
I got a new sim, wiped, and reflashed and still the same problem. However I noticed that if I wait long enough it does eventually toggle, so I guess the problem is a ridiculously slow 2g -2g/3g toggle

Well it does take up to 30 seconds to switch the radio mode yes but I thought it wasn't reconnecting after you toggled at all.
I didn't think it was, it used to only take 30 seconds, now it's more like 3-5 minutes

Guys I am going away with work for four months somewhere which will cost me fortune to use my phone. That said I want to take it with me use it as a tablet of sorts as I have access to wifi.
I know I can turn off mobile data, but can I disable the GSM modem too. Basically I want airplane mode but with wifi enabled. That way there is no chance of any costs been incurred.
Thanks
Don't know if it works for you, but I just tested like this:
- Go to Settings/Wireless & Networks/Mobile networks/Network operators
- Just select an operator different from the sim card you have
Wifi should still work.
I use a free app from market called airplane settings that allows you to select which radios to keep active when turning on airplane mode. It works with latest Runny v4 so should work for you.

Turn on Airplane mode, then turn on WiFi. Wifi should be turned on and gsm is still off
I do what i want, because I can.

Never thought to try that as figured airplane mode would have killed the wifi entirely. It seems to work so thanks!
What about just removing the SIM Card?

Would perfer to keep it in, there is the availability to use my phone where I am going, just is very expensive, if need be I can then just turn it back on and make a quick call/send a text. Just dont want it standby all the time with the ability to cost me a fortune to recieve calls!

I must than be doing something wrong here. The moment I go into Airplane mode, my WiFi gets turned off and won't turn on untill I disable airplane mode. So what's the catch here.

What you want is very easy just go to setting> wireless. And then take the mark away by data connection.
And if you want airplane mode with wifi enabled that's easy to: First put airplane mode on and after that switch wifi back on.
Yep, switch to Airplane-Mode and turn on Wifi.
I did that some weeks ago when I went to Israel and gonna do it again when i'll be in England this weekend.

Remember to turn off your voicemail (you may have to talk to your provider), or youll be paying international rates for any calls you miss.

Yes indeed or else you will be charged if people speak into your voicemail. Well I already disabled it for a long time, I don't see the use off voicemail, people can better send an e-mail or text message.

Are you guys running stock ROM's or costom ones.
I tested it yesterday several times, but when I go into Airplane mode, I can enable WiFi but it does not connect to known AccessPoints.
Also does not give me a list of found AccessPoints.
[edit]
Just because I wouldn't instantly disbelieve you guyes I tried it one more time, and a miracle happend.
It connected to the WiFi access point on Airplane mode.
So what you were saying is the correct way
Had forgotten about the voicemail part, thankfully I can phone it myself before i leave and disable it from the options menu so thats easy enough. Will just place a new message on it from me saying I am away and to contact me by email.
Thanks for the help though, I knew you guys would have a solution to this!
*#*#4636#*#*
1. Put *#*#4636#*#* into the Dialer (or use any application available on the Market like 4636 — takes you to the same service screen)
2. Choose Phone Information
3. Press Turn off radio
Thanks

Turning ON Airplane and Switching ON WiFi works like a charm.
Thanks..
I know its old thread but good for googlers. Airplane mode will not disable internal modem as you can still see its active under battery details straight red bar = weak or searching for signal. Its draining battery and its still able send/receive data. I read about flashing a script to completely turn it off and cut its power but it shows pie security error in terminal -.- I deleted dialer&related stuff from phone as its only used with VoiP so I can't access service menu. Do you still get red line in battery details and does the modem stays off after a reboot? Some devices you can actually physically remove the modem.
My Tmo note 3 is unlocked, and I'm using it with Lycamobile, currently.
It works fine most of the time, but I'm getting "Sim Data refreshing" toasts on a regular basis (sometimes several times a day). When this happens, I also lose Wifi, if I'm connected, and it sometimes takes a little while for the signal to come back.
Is this a Samsung thing?
Or should I switch sim cards?
Googling it brought up a few threads, but no real solution.
This happens to me and I have no data but voice I just switch turn off the phone switch sim let it load and turn off and switch back to sim then I have no problems.

So from what I can tell it seems manufacturers are all removing the option to set wifi calling and "preferred".
My situation is I have very poor signal at home which is where I work and the phone constantly switches between wifi and network and 75% of the time the transfer doesn't work and the call drops.
It seems that the threshold for switching back to carrier is only 1 bar, this is just ridiculous as with 1 bar of 4g I cannot make calls.
Please any advice? Any chance of rooting the phone and changing code somewhere to adjust this threshold?

I suggest you add the "Mobile Data" option to your Notification pull-down quick settings, then just turn it off before making a phone call, forcing it to use WiFi for the call - ?

I work from home and may leave 6-7 times per day, this is just a massive headache, yes it's a workaround but only a workaround, I'm really after a permanent solution.
I actually just switched from a Huawei mate 20 pro to this device because I was told (like the google pixel) that samsung devices let you customise this option

Turning off mobile data won't alter call behaviour as a "mobile" call doesn't use "data" from the network.
The OP is referring to an option which used to exist in Samsung phones to use VoWiFi in preference to the mobile network whenever possible. That option definitely doesn't exist any longer

This is actually a CSC feature. On my Note 9 VMC the option was there. Once I switched to TLS the option disappeared. Contact your carrier and complain. I also find it super annoying.
Was thinking of upgrading from my Note 9 and was looking to see if anyone has a work around for the Sprint model?

I use PDANet+ Full with the WiFi Direct on my Note10+ on Sprint and go to school online and do all of my gaming with it. Use about 600GB a month of "mobile data". No issues here.
Easiest solution is to set TTL on your laptop to +1 above current. This works with verizon, may not work with all carriers. When I can't do that(tethering tablet) I use PDANet wifi direct.
Many moons ago here in xda was posed to pull Sim card , then go to Hotspot setting screen. Put Sim card back in and start turning on & off the wifi switch . This has worked for me since my note 5. Today with my note 10+ it still works. For me I toggle the Hotspot 3 times is the norm most is the time. I do not worry about the no Sim card message as the Hotspot toggle turns on. Just press the toggle back off. After the third time pops is please wait verifying, and it's on. I've got a screen recording of it but not had luck uploading with this.
