Hi all,
I am still on Android 4.3 and have previously rooted my device. Trying to connect on a Windows 8.1 PC.
Recently I did a factory reset and now I get errors when setting up - "Unfortunately, Setup Wizard has stopped" - after the device name.
I am trying to unroot my device and upgrade to 4.4.2 but I cannot get the device recognised in download mode (power + volume down + home).
I have tried different USB cables, different ports and different PCs and the only difference is that all but one USB port shows the "device descriptor request failed" error in device manager. On one port I can see it when powered on and connected, and it is recognised in Kies and Odin. As soon as I put it in download mode I get an error and the device won't start and I get the "This device cannot start. (Code 10)" error.
I have nothing I need to get off the device, so am happy to try anything to get the device recognised so I can re-flash some firmware!
Any help would be most appreciated...
Thanks

Check make sure USB debugging is checked in Developer options and unknown sources in Security settings are checked.

Thanks buhohitr, I made sure they were checked and same errors.
I was wondering if it possible to load new firmware via the recovery menu? Like load the firmware onto sdcard or something?
Just trying to think of a way to flash firmware without a PC. I found a mobile Odin by Chainfire but this device is not supported.
Any thoughts?

Hi, I recently tried using a stock image with odin for my galaxy tab pro 8.4. Odin started flashing but failed when sending system.img.
I tried this process twice and got the same result even using a different USB port in may computer and a different cable but, after the second try (and as the first one I disconnected the computer and restarted into download mode), the tablet usb stopped working.
When I connected it in my first two tries, I got the typical windows sound when you connect anything in the usb, now I dont get anything and not even in the device manager. I tried with another computer and got the same problem, no usb connected sound and nothing in device manager.
My device is now stuck in odin mode. If I try to reboot normally I get into download mode but with the message "Firmware upgrade encounterd an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again".
I have tried deleteing de drivers and installing kies but still nothing.
Can you help me please?
Nevermind

For anyone facing this, you have to wait for the tablet to run out of battery and then connect it again to the computer. It will be detected as before.

the problem is solved i just don't know how to delete this thread

in fact the device is still not yet recognized under twrp but does work under bootloader mode, it's just it's not adb connection but fastboot connection that i got confused
for anyone who have a similar problem, you might find it helpful in the following links that i tried before i realized my stupidness...
http://sciologness.com/download/903...-configuration-descriptor-request-failed.html
http://adbdriver.com/downloads/
http://developer.samsung.com/technical-doc/view.do?v=T000000117 // this is the samsung page, but after installation you might find in your usb driver compatibility list something like "samsung adb interface" and that might do the trick

hey guys,
i just followed this page to root my device
http://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-c/general/guide-unlock-bootloader-install-custom-t3307183
everything went fine until i flashed the xceed kernel.img for my stock rom...
and when booted into twrp and connect to pc meanwhile, the tablet it's not recognzied via usb anymore, and it says 'unknown usb device' error code 43. the tablet can either be rebooted into the system or recognized under the bootloader mode
i tried to install the google usb driver manually but it says
'This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)'
anyone please help
i don't think it's the problem of my cable or the connecting ports...
my os is win10 64
thanks all

I have a problem.
My screen is broken. Now I want to send him to OnePlus.
But before that I want unroot it. Or at least reset to factory defaults. But both things fails.
I have the latest FreedomOS Rom. Since then I can no longer use TWRP. When I start my phone to the recovery the screen goes black and nothing happens anymore.
The same happens when I put it back to factory settings through the settings menu .
I've read there is a modified version of TWRP.
From here begins the real problem. Windows doesn't recognizes my phone.
In Device Manager it appear as "unknown USB device (failed request for device descriptor)"
What I've tried:
Boot in to Bootloader
Original (Dash) USB cable
Other USB cable
WIndows 10
Windows 7
USB debugging on
USB debugging off
OEM unlocking on
OEM unlocking off
USB configuration: File transfer
USB configuration: MTP
USB Configuration: Charge
Anyone have an idea?
Maybe it's the ROM. But I cannot flash another ROM because I can not get into TWRP.
Maybe it's an option to flash the modified TWRP without a computer. So right from the bootloader. But I do not know if this is possible. And how it should be done
I'm having the exact same problem. Did you find a solution?
In windows 10 -> i get Device Descriptor Request Failed
In windows 7 -> Unknown Usb Device (Installed Correctly)
whenever i try to update device driver with ANY driver (oneplus... or generic sdk driver) I get a message saying "doesn't contain a suitable driver for your device.....)
I went to device manager > right click mtp (unknown device) > update driver software > browse my computer > let me pick > mtp USB device > happy me
Windows it's the problem. I reinstalled drivers, adb, nothing. At work i try it & it works. I reinstalled windows. Now works.
I'm on windows 10 x64.
Damn it, I don't think windows is my problem.. i tried Windows 10 / Windows 7(2 diff computers)
i can't even see the phone as MTP..
Found any solution to this? Having a similar issue

I'm having trouble connecting my phone to my PC to transfer files. The phone never seems to register on windows, there are no "device inserted" sound at all and the phone is not listed in the device manager. On the phone, it is not even showing the little notification to change USB mode from Charging to File Transfert. Even in the settings directly, the option does nothing. Latest Google USB drivers are installed.
When the phone is in the bootloader, it shows up in the windows device manager with "Unknown usb device (device descriptor failed)".
I've tried multiple PC and cables, rebooting in safe mode, same thing!
I'm running TWRP recovery with stock ROM and ElementalX kernel, might that be an issue ? Thanks
I am getting a Unknown usb device (device descriptor request failed) It keep telling me usb device not recognized while being plugged it. I have tried several things
1. another windows 10 computer worked the first time then same error as a laptop.
2. unintalled the driver and rebooted.
3. also used multiple usb ports
cant find anything after searching
pixel 2 xl 8.0 September update
rooted lastest magisk 15.3
latest twrp installed
stock kernel
recently a fresh install a few days ago because i got it to work somehow but not anymore what do i do?
adb, fastboot, and storage cannot be accessed
Try these steps:
-uninstall previous version of SDK tools from PC
-download latest SDK Tools from HERE
-have a USB 2.0 cable available
-follow these steps to verify connectivity
see if these things help
Unless there is a specific reason you're still on Sept 8.0, I'd take this chance and upgrade to lasts 8.1 factory image.

I'm just spitballing here but....
With phone plugged in, on your pc, under device manage. When you open it up do you see unknown android device? That driver may need to be updated. Also, USB debugging is on, and the option to transfer files? Is your SDK platform-tools up to date?
I forgot to mention downloaded the platform tool for both computers. I never updated because i had root and nothing new was that interested enough to start all over. I followed the steps and nothing usb debugging is on. In device manager its says Unknown usb device (device descriptor request failed). I cant transfer files or anything. I tried updating to the google driver but it said it wasnt compatible.
I haven't seen it with this phone yet, but try changing the USB mode on your phone from the notification; I've had a few phones that refuse to work in specific modes.

Have you tried a different USB-C-A cable just for the heck of it. May have to factory reset and see if that solves it.

So your driver is messed up. Did you use the driver below?
https://dl-ssl.google.com//android/repository/latest_usb_driver_windows.zip
Sent from my taimen using XDA Labs
It won't let me install the driver I get some kind of error when selecting it. I was able to get it to work after plugging it in and out. Now that I updated to 8.1 everything was fine untill I got home. Now it's doing it again. I tried 2 different cables restarted my computer and laptop and can't figure out why it was working fine before without doing anything different.
Try this:
1. Go to C:\Windows\INF
2. Find the file "wpdmtp.inf"
3. Right click the file and click 'Install'
4. Once that is done, simply plug your phone and it should work.
