I decided to encrypt my LG Nexus 5 yesterday after the news that Google could get to my phone when they are asked to. I started it around 9 am yesterday and it's 10am today and still running with the different color dots on the screen. Anybody an idea how long this can take? 24 hours seems to long to me!
The phone is plugged in on a charger and was 100% fulle when I started it.
I have the 32Gb model of the Nexus 5 and it is about 70% full. It runs the latest Android and I keep all my app's updated.
What should I do? Wait another day, or factory reset? Factory reset is the only option I could find when encryption somehow fails.

I'm assuming it's a typo and you meant the 5X? I decrypted my 5X and later decided to enable the encryption to see if it would work. My 5X was loaded up with over 120 apps and about 10GB worth of pics, videos, and other random files. The whole encryption process took about 5 minutes. However, the first time it looked like it failed and just rebooted. The second time is when it ran through the encryption in about 5 minutes and had a timer counting down how much time was left until complete. The encryption progress screen shows the android robot displaying the time left, so it looks like your phone is stuck. I'd just factory reset it with a stock image to get back the encryption.
I'd feel more comfortable starting from a clean slate, but that's just me
Factory reset did the trick. I just hoped on another solution. Thanks.

I have searched for this issue but couldn't find anything about it...
So I got my GSM Galaxy Nexus from Rogers 10 days ago. It has been working dandy with maybe 1 force close the whole time and no random reboots. I also unlocked the bootloader and installed 4.0.2 (yakju) keeping the radio that came with it intact.
I also installed Google Wallet on it and successfully used it. Other than that, I haven't done any tweaks, and like I said, it has been working perfectly with no problems whatsoever.
Enter today: I woke up this morning and went to check my phone. Instantly like 3 applications force closed (ones that weren't even running in the foreground too). Now for the past 3 hours hours or so, applications force close (some won't even have a chance to run for a second) and the phone reboots randomly. I think it has rebooted around 30 times in the past 3 hours. Sometimes it reboots as soon as it has booted up, sometimes it works for a few minutes before rebooting.
Every time it reboots it shows my old battery stats (I think.. from before I went to sleep), and notifies me of the same emails. I managed to install one app before it did a random reboot once, but after the reboot it was gone. (Think Groundhog Day).
I have no idea how to fix this short of doing a factory reset. Anyone have any ideas as to what may be happening or how to fix it?
Thanks.

Is it doing a full reboot or just a "warm start"?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
What's a warm start? It seems to be doing a full reboot.. Screen goes black, then Google logo appears, then the boot animation.
It seems that I cannot do a factory reset.. selecting it in the menu brings me to the android robot on its back with a red exclamation mark, and selecting wipe data from that menu doesn't actually wipe anything even though it says it does.
Try unlocking and relocking your boot loader if you are going to factory reset anyways

It's already unlocked.. You mean locking it and unlocking again? Also, is there any way to batch reinstall all the apps tied to my account? And also, any clue how this issue could have originated? I want to avoid it in the future.
No idea.. all I can think of is an app using all of your memory as that's what causes a force close.. and sure try relocking and unlocking if a normal factory reset won't do it. If you have titanium backup you can use that to batch reinstall but if it is an all causing this issue you should install them one at a time to see of there are any adverse effects.
I don't know if it is an app but that is my best guess.

I hadn't installed any new apps prior to this.. and everything was working fine before, which is why I'm confused as to what could have caused this. Also, not just one app force closes, but like 4 at a time.. usually the Google apps for some reason. I checked the memory and the CPU and it seemed to be running at normal levels.
Have you tried an old-fashioned battery pull?
Haven't had this happen to me, but a pull usually does the trick.
Yep, and it hasn't worked.. Every time the device reboots, it will either reboot again right away, or if i don't touch it, it will idle. Then if I try to do anything, 3 or 4 apps will crash instantly, and then it will freeze and instantly restart.
If I manage to install an app, I can run it, but then it crashes and reboots again with no sign of the app. Deleting apps is also useless as they are back after reboot. Strange issue.
Guys, I really need help.. I finally had time to sit down with my phone and figure out this issue so I decided to just do a wipe. As I wrote previously, I am unable to wipe it from within the OS due to it rebooting when I do, so I decided to re-lock the bootloader.
When I typed "fastboot oem lock", it changed the lock state on my phone to locked.. as I was expecting.. however, when I rebooted the bootloader, it was unlocked again. WTF? Now I am trying to flash stock 4.0.2 to it again (which it was already), but it's been stuck on "writing 'system' ..." for half hour
Could the flash memory be corrupted somehow?
Ok, I have deduced that it is most likely corrupted flash memory.. I didn't even know that could happen, especially in 10 days.. I guess that's good ol' "Made in China" at work. Still, am I the only one who has had their flash memory fail on them?
Crossing my fingers that Rogers will replace my Galaxy Nexus even though it's rooted and bootloader unlocked :/
Hey stenzor,
I am facing same problem of rebooting...
But I haven't flashed it to yakju.
Did rogers replaced your?
Hey, everyone. I know this issue has been reported before, but NONE of the solutions are working for me. Perhaps I just have a bad Nexus.
I received the device for Christmas and it has worked perfectly fine. Super fast, fluid, responsive. Then, suddenly, I was using the device and it randomly rebooted. I thought, "whatever, this happens to all devices at one point or another". But then, after I turned it on, it got stuck on the Google startup screen for at least 5 minutes. I decided to restart and try again, but this time, it got stuck on the google screen, rebooted on its own and got stuck on the google screen again, repeating this cycle over and over.
So I went into Recovery mode to wipe the cache and do a factory reset. Not even this would work. The factory reset worked, but when I started up my tablet again, it froze at the Google screen. Eventually, it would just continue the cycle of freezing and rebooting. This is ridiculous. A brand-new, unrooted Nexus 7 on 4.4.2 should not be completely unusable. My warranty is up on the 18th, so I will probably just return it, unless someone has an idea.
Thanks.

That'a your best option. If you haven't modified it in any way then use your warranty.
I agree. Since you did not root it, there is probably something wrong with your tablet and you should get it exchanged while you can

I am going through the EXACT same thing and no one has been able to help.. What I did to fix it was re-flash the 03.15 bootloader and that allowed it to start. I think there's some tablets out there that "don't like" the new bootloader included with the KitKat update and I'm glad to see that it's not just me... At least you are able to return yours. I purchased mine back in August last year
Hey guys, wondering if anyone is able to create a recovery image for me to download of 8.1+update 1.
My surface rt wont boot past the surface logo. I can't find my usb drive that had my restore image but on top of that it was 8.0 anyway. I checked the ms website and they only host an 8.0 image as well.
At this point I am willing to try anything. I did attempt to download and boot to the 8.0 recovery image by inserting the usb drive and holding power and volume down until the logo came up, but so far doesn't seem to do anything. Am I completely hosed?
long version:
About a year ago, my surface started performing really poorly. Basically any swipe gestures would either not work or they would be extremely delayed. The animation would also be delayed. Other things would be really slow for instance, in IE tapping inside an address bar wouldn't load the keyboard for about a minute. PS 90% of my activity is on IE reading news or watching youtube.
Several months back I finally noticed that anytime I would start experience these issues, the disk usage in task manager would be pegged at 99% even though the read might literally show only 14 KB/s and the write might only be 1 MB/s. The biggest flag though was the response time was always in the thousands of ms.
I pretty much lived with the problem and often a restart would seem to make things happy for a while. And I usually leave task manager open so I can peek and see the utilization anything things feel sluggish.
Last night it was behaving worse than before. I managed to navigate through the charms and attempted to restart. But after waiting several minutes of it just saying restarting with that circular loading image decided to force the issue and I held down the power button until it shut off. It only said restarting, not installing updates or anything like that. I waited way longer than it would have reasonably taken and under normal circumstances, if it was installing updates, it is very obvious and the messages are clear. Plus the charms power option was simply restart, not update and restart.
Sadly when I tried to power back on, it just gets stuck at the "Surface" logo and doesn't do anything. I waited 10 minutes and forced the power off and tried again. It was late so I decided to go to bed, but left it running in hopes that it would eventually boot up. I woke up 4 hours later and it still showed the Surface text on a black screen. At that point I decided to shut it off.
I had already installed update 1 last week, BUT just in case it is some kind of failed windows update. Is there anyway to "reinstall" from this state?
Gonna be extremely bummed if my device is permanently bricked.
If memory serves, I'm pretty sure I deleted the recovery partition BUT I have a flash drive that has the backup, although it would be an 8.0 backup not 8.1.
Restore to 8 then update?

It doesn't boot from the 8.0 image. Not sure if its cause it's completely hosed or because it needs 8.1. I'm not getting the boot record problem as reported by people when 8.1 first came out.
Hi all
I restarted my watch using settings menu. Then left the watch on charge and went away. Next day found watch to be dead with black screen. I hard reset it by holding button for 10 seconds. It seemed to start but then gets stuck on start up ( at different places and different booting time, every time) Have not able to complete boot it once.
Then I thinking I am very clever, went into the boot menu and deleted cache and data. It seemed to load a bit longer than last times and actually went on to connect with phine and started update but got stuck on 20 out of 27 apps.
So every time it gets stuck, it black screens and the only way to bring it out of this state is to hold down the button for 10 seconds. It does not black screen in FASTBOOT menu. I am not sure if there is any warranty left on this watch as it was bough second hand and till now had been working really well for about 3 weeks.
I have installed adb drivers but it doesn't show up on the PC. May be because i didn't do the developer options step before I am guessing. Anyway I have no idea what is happening to the watch and if it is even recoverable or not.
Any one seen this before? any ideas what I should do?
Thanks so much
One thing that gives me confidence that battery is not dead is that if I leave it in the fastboot menu screen then disconnt the carger it stays there.
I tried sideloading Android Wear 1.4 image. It fails at 57 or 58% , always
Just a note to anyone with similar problem. My watch sorted itself out after a few days. I think , if you leave your watch on charge and don't touch it for two days then it somehow help. I am not sure how it started working. My suspicion is that the watch either had water in it that dried out over two days or the charge had somehow gone so low that it needed a very long charge to stabalize. Anyway, it works now.
Hello!
Around Nov. 11th, I followed on-screen prompts for firmware update (I believe the fall One UI 5.0) on my Galaxy S22. Put in the password I've used since I activated the phone in July to "complete the update" after system restart, but device won't take it and I have only a few "attempts" remaining.
Phone is Verizon, no luck with Samsung Find My Mobile; Google's Android Device Manager won't even _ring_ the phone (it showed the correct GPS location at first, but not after I let the phone die and charged it up again ... tried resetting password from here, but even several soft resets later, it now reads device cannot be reached and shows a generic map with no pin).
I've heard of people soft-resetting until it works, but I don't want to waste more attempts with the only password I've ever used (definitely used the eyeball icon to make make sure I'm typing it in right!). No way to roll back the update or reinstall it? So much data since my last backup :-/
Any ideas for last attempts into the phone before factory reset? Willing to keep trying.

P.S. Was advised to move this post, hopefully I'm in the right channel now. I have pics / video to suppplement post if needed.
P.P.S. Noticing that Airplane mode looks to be enabled, but I seem able to hit WiFi icon and "connect" to home network over it.
This started happening to me today too, I have a galaxy a51 though. I recently updated as well a few days ago.
My pattern unlock worked fine earlier in the day. I put it on the charger and walked away for a while, when I came back the pattern that I've used for a long time no longer works. I've tried so many times it keeps locking me out in increasing increments of times... now it's counting down from an hour.
Soft resets did nothing, I tried many times. I don't have find my phone enabled or a samsung account linked, my google account is linked but unfortunately google forced me to set up 2FA a while ago so now I need my phone to get into that too!
The only other thing I've seen mentioned as a fix is to let the phone die completely then recharge it and see if it will accept the pattern. Mine is at 60% right now so it's going to take a while. I also don't want to factory reset as none of my data is backed up, unfortunately.
I feel like the update has to be related to this problem too. I've had several problems since doing that update and never had any of these issues prior. Did you ever figure anything out with yours?
