[Q] Nexus 7 stuck on Google screen, reboots and freezes? - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

Hey, everyone. I know this issue has been reported before, but NONE of the solutions are working for me. Perhaps I just have a bad Nexus.
I received the device for Christmas and it has worked perfectly fine. Super fast, fluid, responsive. Then, suddenly, I was using the device and it randomly rebooted. I thought, "whatever, this happens to all devices at one point or another". But then, after I turned it on, it got stuck on the Google startup screen for at least 5 minutes. I decided to restart and try again, but this time, it got stuck on the google screen, rebooted on its own and got stuck on the google screen again, repeating this cycle over and over.
So I went into Recovery mode to wipe the cache and do a factory reset. Not even this would work. The factory reset worked, but when I started up my tablet again, it froze at the Google screen. Eventually, it would just continue the cycle of freezing and rebooting. This is ridiculous. A brand-new, unrooted Nexus 7 on 4.4.2 should not be completely unusable. My warranty is up on the 18th, so I will probably just return it, unless someone has an idea.
Thanks.

That'a your best option. If you haven't modified it in any way then use your warranty.

I agree. Since you did not root it, there is probably something wrong with your tablet and you should get it exchanged while you can
Sent from my Nexus 7

I am going through the EXACT same thing and no one has been able to help.. What I did to fix it was re-flash the 03.15 bootloader and that allowed it to start. I think there's some tablets out there that "don't like" the new bootloader included with the KitKat update and I'm glad to see that it's not just me... At least you are able to return yours. I purchased mine back in August last year

[PLEASE READ] 4.3 Update Crashes Phone!!

PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO READ, THANK YOU.
Hello,
I am a Galaxy Nexus user, non rooted, running Android version 4.3. Yesterday I was running 4.2.2 and everything was fine and running as normal. Keep in mind I never rooted my phone, although I have to others in the past. My Nexus was running pure official 4.2.2. I had been waiting for the 4.3 update and was extremely excited when I was the notification that it was ready for my phone. I quickly downloaded it and then it rebooted the phone, as any update should. That's where everything went downhill. The phone started to lag immediately when I turned it on. It was sputtering and jerking but I just thought it was getting used to the update. Then the phone would loose its onscreen buttons and turn the page that I was looking at full screen (meaning I couldn't press home or back, because they simply just weren't there). Then the phone froze all together and after waiting 20 minutes I finally took the battery out and tried again. The EXACT same thing has been happening ever since yesterday and it has made the phone unusable because it will freeze 5 minutes into turning it on. And we then screen times out, the screen will not turn back on, as if the phone was off, when it is not. I'm very frustrated because the phone was working flawlessly before the update and now I have to use my retired G1 because the phone is that unresponsive. I was just hoping someone could please help me, or has a similar story and could make this known to Google. Thank you for reading, please if you can, help me.

I have not tried that, only because I hoped there would be an alternate way without me having to format anything.

Hi Justin,
I'm also a Galaxy Nexus user and the exact same thing happened to me.
I guess you already did a full wipe or threw your phone in the trash since you posted this several days ago haha. I did wipe my phone cuz it appeared to be the only option left, I fastbooted 4.3 factory image that I downloaded from the Google site.
It just so happens that yesterday I reinstalled (on 4.3 already) Lightflow LED Notifications app (last version, 3.8 I think, - when all of this happened I didn't have the last version - and the curse was back on. The same thing started to happen, the freeze, the buttons dissapearing, etc. So I obviouly proceeded to uninstall the app and guess what? Problem solved.
So I was just telling you this in case you still have your issue or if anybody else comes accross with the same problem.
I cannot be absolutely sure it's a crash between the update and the app but I think, at least on my phone, it was pretty obvious.

GSM Galaxy Nexus stuck rebooting

Hello everyone! I own a Galaxy Nexus that's running one of the Cyanogenmod 4.4 snapshots. While watching a youtube video my phone froze up and shut itself off. I rebooted and after a few moments the same thing happened. When I power up my phone one of two things happen. It either reboots while booting and automatically attempts to boot again or it manages to turn on for a short while and then turns itself off.
I believed the issue was a battery or hardware one at first but after leaving my phone booted in recovery for half an hour with no ill effects I think something else might be up. What do you guys think is the best course of action? The only thing I've done is a factory reset that has done nothing.
Anyone?

Factory Reset and reflash the rom. If that doesn't work try flashing another rom like Vanir. If your phone still shuts off...well unfortunately this may be a hardware related issue, nothing you can do if that's the case. Unless it's your battery which I highly doubt.
I think it's the same thing that happened to me a year ago, check this out:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-nexus/help/bricked-phone-t2306672
for me it was a hw related problem, i had to send the phone back to assistance and have it repaired (it was still under warranty).
Good luck :good:
Thank you all for your ideas. I'll report back my findings later today.
Same problem over here. Tried a lot of roms (custom and stock from Google page), took it to assistance (no warranty though) was told is a hardware issue. Since replacing the mainboard its the same price as a new phone... well you know.
But a curios thing happened: tried to flash the Ubuntu Touch rom, same problem (reboots at Ubuntu start screen) and the Firefox-OS, that one worked (considering it's limitations obviously)!

G4 Bootloop

Hi Guys,
i am really confused and a little bit angry. The Following happened to me today:
My Phone (Unrooted, Locked BL) was behaving weird this morning.
It just randomly crashed and wouldn't boot up.
Eventually i got it to boot once or twice, but still it crashed, shut down and Bootloop.
A Reqular Factory Reset did nothing. now i'm trying to install the Regular KDZ-File for the H815, but things are just not working as expected.
Has anyone else had this problem before?
Is it normal that the LG Flash Tool is on 1% for over 5 Minutes and nothing changes on the Phone screen?
I want to know what has broken my phone so bad, cause this time, I just used it the way it was supposed to be used, no hard drops, no rooting, no changing of software in any means.
First LG Phone and it broke with no warning and no explenation. I'm a little disappointed right now.

The same happened to mine. Are you able to get to download mode by powering off your phone and plugging it into your computer? Im able to flash stock ROMs but nothing helps. The phone reboots by itself at random times and makes it into the operating system a few times but is never usable.

Hey,
yes i can get into download mode.
I am able to flash files, but the phone wont boot up anymore.
I just want to save my data, but i guess i wont be able to do so.
So i have to get to the store and get a new g4
Luckily i made a backup of my two weeks ago, so not much will be lost.
I also send an email to the LG customer Service, will post their reply here too.
I am really disappointed by LG at this point, i usually had motorola phones and they didn't have random errors like this one.
I switched to LG, cause G4 sounded awesome, but this error is making me sad.
I am really thinking that i won't buy another LG Product, which is making me sad too, cause usually most things made by them are great.

//==============First Request by me:======================
Hello dear LG-Service Team,
i just bought the premium product LG-G4.
Since some days, the Phone is beginning to hang and reboot, resulting in a bootloop.
Sometimes the phone boots, than optimizing Android for about 30 minutes (100+ Apps installed). After this happened, i kann use it again, but not fully.
To shortcut eventual questions:
The Phone is in factory State, no Custom Rom installed. The bootloader is locked and the Phone has not been rooted.
The mistake seems to come from your firmware.
I am really disappointed, because i paid a lot of money and no have a product which is barely usable.
I switched to LG because of the G4 and i don't want to regret this decision.
Kind regards

Email and response, translated by me, so there might be some mistakes...
I don't like the response, it feels like not being taken seriously.
Well, nevertheless, i will go to the retailer and will see what happens.
I will keep you updated.
What do you think of this response?
Greetz Esok
That response is terrible lol. I called in and they said they do not support my phone because it is an international version. So there was nothing they could do for me.
I have a similiar issue, but mine was due to a OTA update, and I didn't know about the download mode until now.
Thanks.
Any tips when I can get into the download mode? I just wanna recover my personal data (images, and texts)? Flashing STOCK image would preserve the personal data right?
While your phone is off, plug it into your computer while holding volume up. If you are using LG flash tool to flash a .KDZ firmware file, you will come across an option that says Normal flash or CSE Flash. Normal flash will not wipe data, while CSE Flash will. I have flashed stock images and it didn't work. Hopefully it works for you though.

+1 I'm in same boat and exact same issue with my H815. I love the device but this is unacceptable.
I'm having the same problem, it just happened to me all of a sudden and now I can't even get to the boot animation. I've been able to get into recovery 2 or 3 times but usually it just restarts before it even gets there. I recently updated to the newest xposed framework (though I've restarted just fine a few times after I installed it), did anyone else here do the same?
When I get home from work I'm going to keep attempting to fix it, I've flashed my current TOT but it failed after rebooting. I don't know if I'm having the same problem as everyone else but I'll update if I can find a solution.
same issue here on the at&t 810. Starting about 3 days ago I started getting random reboots + bootloops. Sometimes it would boot to the LG logo and stick, sometimes to the AT&T logo and stick, sometimes to the OS and freeze after the lock screen appeared. I can get into the OS and use it for awhile, then it will restart and it all begins again. 2 factory resets so far and no dice. I am rooted on 10e but have a warranty device on the way which undoubtedly will be on a higher firmware and will likely miss out on the potential coming bootloader unlock. At this point I am probably going to sell on craigslist and get a 6p. The phone is great when it works and I love the size, the looks, and the screen, but the lag and these reboots are unacceptable.
Just a short update by me:
I gave it to the retailer, they said it would take about 10 Days.
I hope this stuff won't happen again or this was the last time i am buying a LG Product.
I think i would have been better off by sending it directly to LG but nevertheless, maybe giving it to the retailer will make my warranty stay longer
I will keep you updated, including firmware Version the phone has after sending it in and so on.
All of the sudden my phone today just froze leaving me with a black background and no animations, the phone is very hot if I try to use it on that moment. Even when I reboot the phone stays very very slow and says system it's no responding.
What can I do? Even when a Reboot it some times works normal then suddenly does it again.

Sounds like a heat problem in your case.
What happens if you pull out the battery, wait 10 minutes to let the phone get cold and than reboot?
Well, no luck on my end. I could only even get into recovery one out of every 50 times or so that I tried, and when I managed to I wasn't able to sideload any system software because it wouldn't initialize the driver (my computer recognized the phone just fine, except the ADB portion). Clearing the data did nothing either. Luckily I'm on Sprint and the phone's being recalled anyway, so I just walked in and they swapped it no questions asked. At least after flashing a TOT and clearing the data they shouldn't have an easy way to tell I was rooted or anything.

same random rebooting issue here as well. and I just bought this phone brand new from a 3rd party :/
Update: I seem to have gotten past the problems after updating to 10n. Now running stock debloated 10n rom with no reboot issues (so far)
Update 2: Had 1 - 2 cycle bootloop on 10n

I don't see how you giving your phone to your retailer will extend your warranty. That makes absolutely no sense, since your warranty begins from your date of purchase.
My phone also ended up with the bootloop and having to exchange with a new unit. I'm on the TMO Variant H811.

Actually German Law is a little bit different.
Regular warranty is not what i meant in my post, i meant the "Gewährleistung" its an additional kind of warranty given out by the retailer.
There are some cases in which this "Gewährleistung", which usually lasts for about 2 Years is made longer. Mostly this happens when the retailer would have to send in a product for the third time, they basically give out a new one, which will be treated like a NEW device. So new Warranty, new "Gewährleistung".
I hope this somehow made sense
Today i got my phone back.
They repaired it.
Everything is like it was before, so i am pretty sure they didn't change it.
Firmware Version is 10d.
The Phone is working so far.
Will keep you updated if anything changes.

Boot Looped

Hello,
Today, while I was using my phone, it restarted itself and has been stuck at a boot loop almost entirely since then. It has successfully booted up 2-3 times but will usually restart itself within 30-45 seconds of booting and then will be stuck in a boot loop again. When it has started up its usually after it has been bootlooping for a while. I have an H811 , I'm rooted and using xTreme Rom v2.0. I have had occasional random reboots here and there before but the phone always booted right up again without any issues. I haven't done anything with root/recovery since early September.
I've tried doing a factory hard reset without any luck. My phone booted up after I tried the hard reset and it was like the reset didn't happen. I can't boot into TWRP. I can boot into download mode and I tried to reset using kdz. It got to 100% but the the phone restarts and is back in the boot loop (then the lg flash tool gets an error and force quits). I've tried removing my sd and sim cards, I've tried swapping to a different battery, I've tried leaving the battyer out and letting the phone cool down. Nothing is working. I have noticed that when the phone is going to boot up correctly the full LG animation plays. When the phone is going to boot loop I only get a static LG Powered by android image.
Since I tried and failed to reset to stock using kdz, the phone no longer boots up past the LG screen. I've redownloaded the kdz file and tried to reset again with the same results. When I have it in download mode Windows recognizes the phone but it says there's an issue with the MTP driver. I've reinstalled the drivers and I still get that the MTP function isn't working correctly.
Any suggestions?

I am having the same issue. I have T-Mobile G4 that is NOT rooted. I bought it on release day. I too would get random reboots, particularly after the recent security update. I also noticed that the operating temperature was really high, a lot lately. I thought it was a rogue app (clean master). Anyway, I updated a few apps and installed a few watch faces. Suddenly, my phone was drained prematurely. Plugged it into a quick charge charger when all the fun begins. Early on it would boot to the home screen but would reboot a minute or two later. Then it stopped booting to home. On two occasions that I caught, it was starting up like a firmware update just installed with the "Android is starting 1 of 143 apps" type of line. After seeing that and still not getting to home, I figured I might as well factory reset it. Well I was amazed to discover that a factory reset yields the same boot loop. All I get is the LG logo.
Defeated. I go to my local TMo retailer where I bought the phone only to find out that I have to wait for delivery of a replacement. I'm in Jump btw. I did notice that when the phone will boot to home screen for whatever length of time, the LED would work. The LED does not work during a boot loop. My research on this issue uncovered an alarming trend on the Internet. No solution other than replacement. No cause has been identified either. Without proof, these are my top suspicions: Quick charge, 128G SD, apps moved to SD. My hunch is quick charge. All of my chargers are Qualcomm certified quick chargers. and I use them 95% of the time. I would hate to add LG to my list of boycotted Android vendors under Samsung.

Sounds like the boot loop issue is a decent sized one- quite a few others, from different variants, having all having a similar issue. For me I was walking with my phone checking facebook when it restarted and got stuck. I definitely notice the LED issue too. I'm not on jump but will likely go into T-Mobile today and see what they tell me.

Freezing at initial android set up?

I just got my brand new OP3, opened it and turned it on to start setting it up, it freezes inside the android set up and then restarts itself after a few seconds of being frozen.
Any solutions? I really don't want to return it, I find it a bit stupid it doesn't even work out of the box
Might be a dud. They happen. RMA it.

Tried doing the Factory reset thing, no luck. Talked to OP support and the guy told me to submit a ticket with my issues, and that a "level 2 technician" would help me.
So I got home and plugged it into my PC, turns out the phone doesn't freeze when plugged in via USB. But on the included charger, and without being plugged into anything, it freezes and reboots itself in a continuous loop.
Keep us informed I'd like to hear what the problem/solution is

After I tried to get it repaired by talking with support and had been using my old phone for a few days and reflashing the ROM and recovery many times. I got it working again (ish) now it only freezes ones a day.
Support is a pain, I'm waiting for a level 2 techician for almost a week now.
So I any of you know a solution or have a confirmation that it is a hardware failure, I think we all would like to hear about it.
