So sent my phone off to Sony last week with a broken vibrator
After a quick Google seems like it's quite common
Just got an email back saying they want 245 quid for a new one...
Why isn't this covered under warranty?

You mean completly dead or like in this video ?

I had this problem but after one week it was back to normal
Sometimes it was fine, some times like the video and sometimes wouldn't work at all

Coincidentally, vibration on my Z1C died last week too. Unfortunately, it's more than a year since I bought my device so no warranty for me. Was pretty disappointed when I found out that the vibration dying is a common problem amongst Sony Z line. Well, right now I'm looking for a new phone, but I'm just not sure which one to get. Z5C is a huge disappointment. Maybe I'll wait April and new Snapdragon proc.
245Q is too much just for a vibration mate.
Btw, vibration on my phone was the same as on that video. It started maybe 4 months after I bought the device, and a year and 8m after, it is completely dead.
They have a 2 year warranty, just spoke to an agent from Sony and she's going to look into it and get it sorted for me as it says out of warranty but the warranty spires next year so all should b good

If you are in the UK then you are covered by the SOGA which overrides any warranty:

vibration motor died recently for me too... has anybody had success repairing it by themselves? would the z1's motor work with the z1 compact?
Turns out its been rejected for warranty repair because the software was modified
yes it was rooted but had sony's LP image flashed onto it.... what a joke!
infact when i flashed it I think it unrooted it anyway so should have been just like a normal update, how would I check this and put it all back to standard so I can send it back in?

You could use any root checker app to check if Your phone is still rooted.
You can flash FTF with wiping all the partitions to go back to stock.
I don't know what they have done but they've seemed to fix the problem... Replaced the seal on the flap and battery life is at like 2 days! Vibration has been sorted too [emoji1]

I need to send my xperia play in for warranty. Anyone that had had any experience do you know if I will receive my xperia play back our a new one or will it be a refurbished one. Also I am in Canada if it makes a difference. Thank You.

In Mexico the first thing they do is factory reset the phone. Then try to reproduce the issue.
If the problem persists, their own techs try to fix it for a few days, if they can't fix it they send it to the manufacturer. About 2 weeks over there and if they fixed it we get the phone back, but if they couldn't fix it they give a new one.
I suppose it's cheaper for them to replace the faulty piece but they still give out new phones sometimes.
The best is acting like you don't know what the hell happened (in case you know) and act like you don't know what rooting is, you've never heard of bootloaders, modding, etc. so they don't try to make it look like it was your fault.
Just out of interest... wht happened to your phone?
I know they will refuse to replace anything with moisture damage and unlocked bootloader.
Its actually more of a hardware problem. My R trigger has stopped working. Do you know about hardware problems? Do they also try to fix those? Thanks!
Sent from my R800i using XDA App
If it is a hardware fault that hasn't been caused by impact damage/moisture then it is worth a try.
But warranty is warranty so give it a go.
Yep I will for sure take it in for warranty I just wanted to know if I get my own xperia play our a refurbished xperia play our hopefully a new xperia play.

I don't think they'll hand over a refurbished one, more than likely it's the same one you took fixed/new piece, a new device or they'll give you a refurbished one without telling you

depends what is wrong with it - Max 2 -3 week...
The touch screen went out on mine would not respond to my touches. Told Verizon and the sent me a refurbished in one day and had to send the old one back.

I have an Xperia Play R800i (o2)
Hi, a few weeks after rooting my Xperia Play I left it in the drawer for 3 days and it went really cold , so when I switched it on my screen had a grey screen with lots and lots of different colored dots everywhere so I quickly unrooted the phone. I forgot to mention than when I rooted my phone I changed the CPU through an app.
It happened every 20 minutes and when it did happen I used to slide the game pad up or press the power button a couple of times and it would go back to normal. And a few days ago I restored my phone to factory settings and now I cant get to the home screen and I also tried updating it using PC Companion but it still shows the screen .
So could someone please tell me if this is a hardware or software issue.
My phone is still locked to o2, I haven't unlocked the boot loader. And my warranty is still valid. I was going to go to the o2 store but thought if someone knew how to fix this because it might have been my fault a little because of me changing the CPU
p.s. I am a newbie to rooting. I followed steps off the internet.
Please someone reply and help me quickly. :good:
Oh no
I just got the exact same problem mate.
I get a weird grey screen every 20 mins just like you mentioned. And the only way I can get back to the normal screen is by sliding up the gamepad.
The phone is still usable but damn it feels like it might be dead soon.
Just to be safe im not going to restore like you did.

Yes, you might as well not and I contacted o2 and now I am going to go to the o2 store and get it fixed. And you might as well get it repaired as soon as possible or it will worsen.
My phone was bought on Amazon. I'll have to try a local shop maybe. If that doesn't work in not sure what I'll do.
Although at the moment it's working fine only getting the fuzzy screen like 3 times a day.

I contacted Sony they said I should try repairing from the sony Ericsson pc suite. He also said if that doesn't work you can send it in to repair. I was told that if it's a hardware problem then they would repair it for free. But if it's a water damage or dropped phone problem it's unrepairable and they would charge me £10.
Pretty pleased with that actually because I'm almost certain my mobile wasn't damaged by a drop or water. So it has to be an hardware issue.
If not then well in screwed.

This is the hardware problem. This is the tape connecting the screen with pad issue. Buy new tape, change and everything will be ok.
Well I have sent it in to Sony now. I'm sure Sony will fix it right?
If they do send it back unrepaired then I may think of doing this myself.

I went to the o2 store on monday and today I got it back and they didn't charge me and it works fine and it also has 90 day warranty with it. It came really fast. So those on o2 with the warranty send it and they'll fix it. And those on other networks send it in to get it checked if it is under the warranty and for those who don't have a warranty or insurance or whatever then it will cost you.

Hello, my Verizon One won't seem to charge. The other day I woke up, used my phone till it was at about 85%, then topped it off back to 100% before I left as I was going to be on the road most of the day. When I took it off the charger I noticed it was a bit warm, not excessively so but noticeable. A couple of minutes later (it had been off the charger) I noticed it was getting hotter. I restarted it hoping for the problem to sort itself out. Maybe 30 minutes later the battery had dipped to 25% and the phone was very warm. I started to get worried and turned it off. Hoping that would at least postpone the problem I put it aside and didn't mess with it. About another half hour later I picked up the phone to see if it had cooled off, only to find that it was even hotter! I got very worried and actually had to hold an ice cube to the back of the phone because I'd heard of bad things happening to overheating phones. That seemed to solve the problem and the battery seemed to have finally run out because it didn't heat up anymore. I got home and tried to charge it to no avail. The thing seems to be completely dead. I was running CM 11 but I hadn't messed with any processor settings. I thought it would be a software issue because of the beta version of CM but idk after it continued to overheat after it was shut down. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Also, if I should just send it to HTC support let me know. I've been reluctant to contact them since the phone is rooted and all...
I have heard to place the phone under a light with the charging cord hooked up. I know it sounds weird but people says it works. I have heard nothing but horror stories about cm11 and refuse to run that Rom. From issues that you describe to it breaking the lte radio and having to flash an ruu to get it working again. There are so many other Roms that are real good.

Before all this CM11 worked great. No lag and everything seemed to work fine minus a couple occasional glitches. Could it be the ROM as it continued to heat when turned off?
I've had the phone on the charger for about a day now, no sign of life. What will happen if I send it to HTC support?
Where did you get the phone? Most likely if from Verizon you can contact their customer support line, tell them it isn't charging and they'll send you a refurb. I just don't mention to them that the phone is rooted and they have always exchanged mine without issue.

There's no harm in calling Verizon tech support, telling them your problem and asking for a replacement device. The worst they can say is no. But then you'd have other options. I don't see them telling you no. I had an issue with a phone a got off Craigslist and they replaced it. I didn't tell them I wasn't the original owner but it was only a few months old and shouldn't matter anyway. They didn't even ask tho.

The exact same thing happened to me about a month ago and I have been terrified to send it in to HTC or use my Squaretrade replacement program for fear they would figure out it was rooted and send me back my broken device with a voided warranty.
Finally I took it into verizon yesterday and they are now sending me a new one in the mail.
I have to send them my broken one after I receive the new one and I'm afraid they might detect its rooted and charge me the $600 for the new device they sent me.
Anyone gone through something similar?

I bought my HTS One from Viva Mobil too, and it clearly was shipped by Verizon.
Three weeks ago, it stopped booting or charging. I walked into a local VZW store and they couldn't wake it either, so they couldn't see I had rooted the phone. They ordered a warranty replacement for me.
I doubt that they're going to bother to see what ROM is on the returned unit..

Just got back from the VZW store, they took it but said "if any software manipulation was detected" I would be charged $300 for the refurb phone. Better than $600 but I'm kinda worried.
I believe this is associated with running a non sense based rom on the phone. There was another guy who had his phone overheat and speakers blown when he was running AOSP, and I know the overheating thing happened to multiple people. I feel like for some reason it's too risky to run AOSP because of these horror stories so if I want an AOSP feel I'll just run a GPE rom with xposed to tweak it how I like. Never had bad luck since, and I predict I won't have any in the future since these roms are made for our hardware by HTC themselves.

My haptic feedback, and vibrate in general appears to be broken.
I noticed the haptic was gone from the keyboard, and it was turned on in there 'Sounds' menu.
Running the Vibration test from a Diagnostics results in nothing, Failed.
I have rebooted and it's made no difference.
Anyone else noticed a lack of Haptic, or is it back to the shop with it?

This has happened once, hopefully I can make it happen again, so I can return the phone maybe?
I think perhaps the vibration motor gets stuck.

Hi! It was me posting in the sonymobile forum. Do you guys know whats wrong? feels like it could be a software problem...or the touchscreen dont register... What do you think?
I think it's a hardware problem.. As you're saying it is working when you shake it.. So I would recommend you to take it to the service center.. You should get a replacement as it is a defected piece or some hardware malfunction..

Not sure how I can take it to a service centre. There are none that I can find.
Back to the shop, I suppose, but I can't make the problem happen at will
Anyone got a cast iron method of making the haptic go off?

My z1 compacts vibration stopped working when I was texting and would start working again when shaken. I took it into phones4u (my retailer) and wrote a text in front of them until it stopped. They gave me a new handset which so far has had no problems after a week. Hope you can get yours replaced or repaired!
Try searching the service center on their official website or try contacting them using their helpline no.
If not flash your phone with a latest ftf which is available.. It might help you out..
Revert back for more info..
Hit Thanks if I helped you

I can't make it happen again. Perhaps it won't. If I can't demo the problem I've got no chance.
On the other hand, if it never happens again, *shrug*
Worse, would be if it starts happening regularly a month or more down the line. That'd be more of a problem.

A-ha.
I can recreate it in a few seconds by texting in landscape mode.
Which I never do.
But... It serves to demonstrate the fault.
So, I'm going back to CPW tomorrow with it.
I really hope they let me refund and get a Z1 instead of a compact. The production faults with this handset seem to be growing, even though I actually do prefer the form factor.

You say that like it is easy, but as far as I know there are no Sony Mobile Xperia service centres in the UK, and even if there is one that I haven't been able to find online, it'll be hundreds of miles away.
'Take it to a service center' is just not an option.
It's going back to the shop tomorrow and I'm going to try and get them to refund and I'll get a Z1 instead. If they won't (they don't have to) then I'll check the replacement handset very closely in the shop for the same problems I have on mine (loose screen, stuck vibro motor, flash bleed).
I demonstrated the fault to the salesman who'd never heard of the problem before.
They showed me another handset upon which I created the fault again. Even the diagnostics won't turn on the vibro. Weird.
They had no more Z1C to give me, so I got a Z1 instead.
So now, I have no Z1C any more, but a brand new and so far fully functional Z1

I'm having the same issue with mine, consistently since buying it. Vibrate stops working after typing a few characters, and then the phone won't vibrate for notifications either. if I leave it alone for a while, it will work again, until I type and then it kind of "fades" away to not working again. Shaking it does seem to get it working again, if only for a second or two.
Problem is I bought the phone on Amazon, and there are no service places even remotely near me. I kept the phone hoping the update would fix.. and when it didn't, I was hoping a fix would be released.. but no. I guess I'll send them an email.
My wife's Z1C had the same issue with haptic feedback, but also the sound would cut out at the same time. Indeed, giving the phone a wack would start both sound and vibrations working again. But finally it never turned back on, so had to RMA it....
Hello all,
This problem occurs when taking pictures when there is less light. From what I have read the only way to fix this is to send the phone to HTC for a hardware repair. However, I had bought this phone second-hand from someone online. How could I use the warranty now? Please advise.

They should since it would be within the one year. I don't think selling a phone breaks the warranty. If you get on a chat with them they'll ask you for your info and worst case scenario is they tell you no.

I'll leave it at that for now. I raged at their chat for about 30 minutes before I got offered 2 more options.
I had HTC repair my camera and not only did they expedite shipping (standard overnight) the camera looks great now when taking pics, The phone looks perfect just like I sent it in. Looks brand new. The actually changed the motherboard and put a new sticker with all the new info on it.
I called them, ask if they could do something more than standard ground and had a prepaid label in my email about an hour later. I brought the phone to fedex saturday morning, it shipped to htc by monday morning 9:30am and was showing in repair at 11am then an email around 5pm that it was done and setup for fedex pickup. Received it at 230pm today.
I think their service and repair was outstanding.
I've been waiting to send my M7 in for this camera issue but now that I've picked up the M8 I was thinking about just selling it as is. It's rooted unlocked with s off.
So I did some Googling in order to get an answer as to whether I can send my phone in for this fix without getting it back unrooted/S-On.
From what I've read it seems to be hit or miss.
Anyone reading this sent one in that was S-Off, only to have it come back stock/S-On?

If you send it S-OFF, technically you are breaking the warranty. And that would REALLY suck for you, cause you would be without a phone for about 2 weeks and it would come back in the same condition, AND you wouldn't be able to fix it anymore afterwards. So you kinda gave birth to 3 birds with one womb.
I S-ON'ed mine when I sent it in, and luckily since this was within a week or 2 of 4.4.2 coming out, they only flashed 4.2.2 (I think. This was like 8 months ago. Whichever version is currently rootable). I would suspect that now, your phone would come with 4.4.2 + Sense 6.0, which is not rootable.
I'm considering flashing a stock rom, then doing a faux h-boot that indicates s-on and removes the unlock/development red text from the startup image.
I just worry that they might have a flash stock rom/recovery step that they do regardless of what is on the phones that get which would lock me up with an unrooted phone once I got it back.
