H815 Marshmallow root without wipe? - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I have the international H815 model and I flashed the 20A firmware kdz with LGUP. Also I have unlocked the bootloader.
Is there any way to root without wiping/factory reset?

Yes. Sou have to Flash twrp, then Flash the Custom kernel, then Flash the newest SuperSu zip 2.52 i guess. Reboot and youre done

ROOT on P8000

To Root your P8000 stock you just need to install SuperSU from Playstore, it works out the box
Playstore -> SuperSU (cant link)
Download -> INSTALL -> ROOT no more steps needed
My, that easy.?
Does this mean that the bootloader is unlocked?
I've got an Huawei Honor 3x Pro G750-T20 which todate is still unrootable because the damn bootloader is locked
i.e that is why I'm getting this device.
Just waiting for delivery which I hope would be soon.
And thanks for the headsup.

I can't open SuperSU ...
" There is no SU binarty installed and SU can't install one. This is a problem"
I think you would have to uninstall and reinstall the SuperSU. And see if the prompt to update binaries come up.

you have to install the su binarys and libs from recovery.
otherwise it can not work with only installing supersu.
with the stock recovery you can not install it. you need cwm or TWRP for it. that means you must root the phone with the flashtool
after that all is done you can install the supersu.zip in recovery and root it

There are several people here who claim they've rooted the phone simply via installing SuperSU directly from Google Play (the ”normal” way - no pun intended). With both the stock and the newer (OTA or otherwise installed) firmware.
I'm not yet sure how that is even possible, but it might have something to do with what another user said, that the official ROM appears to be pre-rooted - as evidenced by his banking app (Barclay's) and despite any other bench-marking apps.
I have yet to receive my device (one more week or so until arrival), but that's definitely what I'm going to try first.
Here is a Instruction to root and CWM Recovery, its very easy and works 100%

As it's impossible to start SuperSU without ROOT on the phone we can take for granted that some P8000 has been delivered pre-ROOTED...
Mine wasn't, but i tried the suggested out of curiousity and of course it did NOT work
I just installed SuperSU on my P8000, it asked for something or other that was recommended for HTC phones? I just clicked 'Normal' and it installed OK, then asked for a reboot.
Looked in settings after reboot and it says 'Superuser is enabled'. Does this mean that my phone is now rooted?
How can I tell?
Thanks
I also only installed the SuperSU App via Play Store and it works like a charm. I can run Titanium Backup and all other stuff that requires root with no problems. I am running the stock rom 20150725.
I also just downloaded SuperSU as the OP suggested and surprisingly it worked! I dowloaded root checker as well and a prompt showed up asking for root permission.
Awesome!

When I go into recovery mode, I don't get install from Zip.
I don't think the flashing of the scatter file actually worked even thought I got the green tick :/

The recovery.img must be in the same folder where the scatter.txt is.
You can also flash it via ADB commands
With.
Fastboot flash recovery recovery.img

How to flash custom rom

Dear all..i have purchased the sprint version of g3..the ls990..and i have rooted it using stump root..now i want to install custom roms and update to lollipop since my phone is on 4.4.2 currently please guide me for all of the steps including installing cwm and twrp recovery..and since im a noob i dont know about all this so please keep this in mind..thanks.
On kitkat:
either option A
1. install twrp manager and press install twrp
or
option B
1. install flashify from playstore
2. download this, extract "recovery.img" from the zip
3. flash the recovery.img with flashify
_____________
Use quickboot from playstore to boot into recovery
What's the current firmware revision... ZV4? I assume so since ZV6 blocks Stump Root. If that's the case, then you'll need to install Bump'd TWRP...

Backup fails when generating md5..can u explain this?
No I can't. Try disabling md5 checking and don't enable compression.

For some reason TWRP doesn't run when installed. But I found a method which allows TWRP to run in memory and I was able to root it from there.

In Marshmallow to flash twrp and root you need to have modified boot img first (unlocked bootloader is a must as well). So basically what you want to do is to unpack boot.img from a custom kernel such as SimpleGX that I used and flash this boot.img via fastboot, it obviously doesn't have all the features and may cause software problems in a long term but its modified so it allows you to flash custom recovery, then root if the kernel doesn't have it by default and lastly flash full kernel package to avoid the bugs.

I was able to run twrp.img as boot.img and flash Superuser.zip. After that I was able to flash twrp. After all my head scratching for 2 days I got it sorted in 5 minutes

flash ,flashable packages without twrp

hello everyone ,i was wondering if is it possible to flash stuff into my g4 using adb to boot a twrp image ,without flashing twrp itself into boot partition ,like xposed , i just dont want to unlock my g4's bootloader , and sorry if ist a dumb question ,came from lg g2 wich didnt need an unlocked bootloader to flash twrp

There is a post to tell you how to flash Xposed. You need the Xposed Installer apk installed, and then you use Flash Fire to flash Xposed zip files and reboot. You then will have Xposed framework. Does not require TWRP. It even worked on my locked VERIZON bootloader. Heres the link:

No,it's not possible. Must flash full rom via ODIN.
you will brick the device if you do , i'ts preferable to download from samfirm and patch it in magisk, so you can flash it safely in odin
