Cannot use other video players - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I noticed today after trying to do some samba sharing with my desktop that when I would go to watch the video I was unable to use anything other than the default android Video Player. Just so you all know: Yes I have other video players installed, also Yes I have gone into app settings and removed all default apps from being default. After doing all of that I still do not see any other of my video players when I go to watch any of these videos. Thank you all for any help you may have.

GN default video app

Ok so today I put two AVI files on my GN just to test the quality of video playback on my phone.
So i tap on one video and it opened in MX Player. At that point I remembered I had installed MX Player earlier today. So I figured since the video automatically opened in MX, I probably set it to default player, so I went into settings/apps to clear defaults but there was no default set.
So I decided to uninstall MX because I really wanted to see the default GN video player.
I went back to my video file and I tapped on it, tapped again, and again and again but nothing happened.
So I was wondering does the default video player not play AVI files?

Internet Browser and Standard Video Player

When I first got the GN2, even after I rooted, I had the option to stream video with the standard video player that came with the phone. Now I only have the options to download videos using the browser or ES File Explorer.
Is there a way to get the streaming option back with the video player that comes stock on the phone? Thanks to anyone that can help, I don't want to download every video I watch... especially some *cough*cough* recreational videos .
By the way I am still on LJC, if it matters, and that is all I have ever been on since I have had the phone.
edit:
It seams I can stream video with ES File Explorer; however, I am still sure the standard video player use to be a option.

Change default video player to MX in Android TV

Hello All,
I have a TCL iFfalcon Android certified TV. The default video player works almost perfect all the time. However, the default player could not load subtitles while playing from DLNA using UMS or BubbleUPnP. So I would like to load these videos in the MX Player app which I installed from Play Store. However I could not find any way to do this. I have tried all methods like resetting app preference etc.
Any help is highly appreciated.

Video player of Samsung is best?

While trying out the display resolutions, I noticed that playing the same video on mx player and Samsung's default player has a difference in quality.
You can access Samsung's player if you play the video from the gallery app. It just looks better. Unfortunately, gallery will show an thumbnail of the video so it's hard to tell which video it is if you have a lot.
Anton he will have notice this?
There is app called Video, it works like gallery, but only displays videos/movies and lists them with a name underneath. I would be completely lost without it. I also use Samsung player for mostly everything, but there are some specific audio or video codecs that Samsung player doesn't work with, so I also installed VLC as back up. I have not come across video VLC wasn't able to play yet.

If you open up an app and play a movie for instance you should get a menu asking what player you wish to use. Just select the default media player and set" always"
You can also go into the settings of your streaming apps and then adjust settings to use a selected player for example MxPlayer or VLC
