Ok so today I put two AVI files on my GN just to test the quality of video playback on my phone.
So i tap on one video and it opened in MX Player. At that point I remembered I had installed MX Player earlier today. So I figured since the video automatically opened in MX, I probably set it to default player, so I went into settings/apps to clear defaults but there was no default set.
So I decided to uninstall MX because I really wanted to see the default GN video player.
I went back to my video file and I tapped on it, tapped again, and again and again but nothing happened.
So I was wondering does the default video player not play AVI files?
No (ten times no)

Hasy anyone managed to get Moboplayer to work?
I installed Moboplayer from the market. After starting i get the following screen:
I should install armv7_neon Codec. The Market Link does not work, it seems not to be online in the market atm. The "DownloadFromMobo" Button works most of the time, it downloads the apk, but after download i get the error, that the downloaded apk could not be decompressed...
So I went to Mobo Website and downloaded armv7_neon-release.apk from there and installed the apk (it installed correctly, e.g. if i have a look at /data/data/com.clov4r.android.nil.armv7_neon).
After installing i still get the message from above, that i should install the codec. I even tried to put libffmpeg_armv7_neon.so (extracted from the apk) to different locations (e.g. /data/data/com.clov4r.android.nil/lib, system/lib, ... of course I corrected the permissions, too). I always get the message and cannot use Moboplayer.
Any ideas?
Download 'MX Video Player' (free from the market). It plays every video type and its just been upddated so now its fully compatable with Android 4 and it also goes full screen when playing videos (soft buttons dissapear).
MoboPlayer hadsnt been updated for ICS yet so it doesnt work.
Mark.
I confirm too MX player now supports full screen!
I already have MX Player installed, but it seems it only does SW Decoding:
I would prefer HW Decoding, which Moboplayer should do (or Diceplayer, but it is not available in the market atm and it is not free available).
Well MoboPlayer wont work with ICS right now so I guess thats your only option until its updated.
Mark.
Soon as I saw the thread that DicePlayer supported the Nexus I went out and purchased from the market. I hope Google doesn't screw something up and pull it off the market because it's getting regular updates. Something to do with their checkout account so you can't purchase at the moment. Definitely the best player I've tried so far. My only complaint is the what I will call the "time zone/license" quirk.....stupid.
I haven't tried MX but I got tired of Moboplayer on my Galaxy S with CM7.1. Just like QQplayer it only worked in SW mode and was slow/choppy. Diceplayer was the only player that worked in HW mode with that ROM on my old phone.
MX Player is not really an alternative. The 720p mkv (h.264 video) form the screenshot above was played in Software Mode ("SW Fast") but at least it played smoothly. An avi file (xvid video codec) is always played in Hardware Mode ("HW"), even if i select "S/W Decoder" as standard in the decoder setting. the problem is, the avid avi file is not played smoothly...
Moboplayer is completly unusable atm, Vplayer does not fade out the menu bar...
I think i have to buy DicePlayer and test that one
Sorry to ressurect .. an old thread but same issue with mobo again ... although not for ICS but for Jellybean on the Nexus Google Jelly bean Stock .. Diceplayer was my main app but this force closes , mobo is backup when a codec movie runs poor on dice ... (which seems to be more and more of late) runs but missing correct codec ... link doesnt take you anywhere in the market mx player is good but I have a paid version of Dice player that I like playing movies at 1.2x speed (gets shows finished within my train journey )
ANyone got mobo to work ...
it really does HW decoding try so videos types mpeg4 or avi (divx) and you see
Sorry to necromance the thread, but I came here with the same issue, looking for a MoboPlayer codec for my Gnex.
Anyway, I dont see the "neon" version of the codec posted in the market, but it is available from the MoboPlayer website, via SkyDrive:
http://www.moboplayer.com/plugin/page/product_en
https://skydrive.live.com/?cid=385189ff7ade12df&id=385189FF7ADE12DF!113
I hope it isn't against the rules, I also attached it to this post for anyone else looking for it...
thank you:angel:
Hi,
What is the best movie player for the Galaxy Nexus to play WMV, MKV etc...?
I have tried DicePlayer Trial version, and it works very good. But it expired now, and I cant buy the full version because the sellers account is suspended.
What would you recommend?
I've tried Dice Player, VPlayer and MX Video Player.
I didnt like Dice Player as the soft buttons always stayed on the screen, regardless of how big you made the video. The Hardware playback was jerky and software seemed to be nice and smooth. When I was watching a video, I'd have to pause the video first (which wouldnt work straight away). But when I clicked the home button and opened the video back up, it wouldnt remember where it was last paused.
On the other hand, MX Video Player is fantastic. It's on V1.5 at the moment and I've already watched 2 BluRay rips (4-6gb each!) and it's performed flawlessly. The screen expands to remove the soft buttons, you can increase the size of the video with pinch-to-zoom. If you slide your finger along the top of the screen, it fast forwards/rewinds the video in small increments. Along the left controls the brightness, along the right controls the volume.
When I pause, it remembers where I left off, and it's not crashed on me once.
All in all, for my purposes, MX Video is the best....
Interested as well.
I'm using MX player to play my AVI's, it goes full screen, seems fine (some play better under software mode rather than hardware mode).
I used to use rockplayer on my desire, but that didnt go full screen on the Nexus.
@ arun1uk
I just gave it a try. Its amazing
I got 1 question
What are these Decoders? And which one should I choose?
H / W Decoder
S / W Decoder
S / W Decoder (Fast)
Wishing VLC had an app!
don't get your hopes up...they've been "developing" one on and off since Android launched.
The decoder settings seem not work for me.
If have 2 xvid avi files and an 720p mkv (h.264 video codec) lokally on my GNexus.
Independent from what i choose in decoder settings (SW, SW Fast, Hardware is not selectable, i hope this is normal) the avi file is ALWAYS played in HW Mode and the mkv file is always played in SW Fast mode.
Even if i select SW, or SW fast, the avi is played in HW mode.
The mkv is always played in SW Fast mode, even if i unselect the Fast mode option. (HW mode can't be selected, but even if i disable SW mode completly it is played in SW Fast, so it seems not to be able to play it in HW mode).
I used mx player to play an avi it worked perfectly!
Diceplayer is the only one I've found that could play all of my video reliably, in terms of audio and whatnot, as well as handle playing 1080p videos with zero lag or any other issues. MX would be able to play the 1080p, but it would be playing so slow that the audio would get out of sync immediately.

If you just give it a second once the video is fullscreen the buttons will go away
VPLAYER
VPLAYER is a good one
anyone ever tried mobo player?

Yeah, use it on my Xoom tablet. It's awesome and definitely one of the best (if not the best). But it's not optimized for ICS yet I believe. So for now, MX player and Diceplayer are very good alternatives.
I loved mobo player on my Xoom. I use MX Video Player on my Galaxy Nexus...however the "decoder" options are just for show for me....hardware never seems to work as well as software....bit mad.
Dice Player. Seems to work for about everything for me.
MX Player is a great free player optimized for ICS and the GNex, but make sure you use Software Decoding for best results. HW Decoding slows it down and SW FAST just destroys picture quality. I tested a 720p MKV file with a generous bitrate, should be fine.
Dice Player is better than MX Player by options only, giving you brightness control and other tweaks. Unfortunately, it's a 3 day trail and the full version has been pulled because they are having problems with setting up their payment account.

MX Player has also brightness control.... you need to swipe your finders on the left side of the screen (up or down)

As i already posted here it's not always spossible to use software decoding. At least for me. my xvid avi files were always decoded in HW mode and are not played smoothly.
mx player seems to be the best option for now (only use sw decoding tho).
mobo player requires me to download some codec that doesn't work. can't get it past that installation screen.
tried on galaxy nexus with modaco custom rom.
I found MX Player, and I love it. But when I recieved 1.5 update, I can't reach setting menu (no SW button, no button on screen).
I downloaded a .wmv format HD (not porn ) movie and xferred to my HOX... but i can hear only sound, and no Video is there... tried with MX Player as well as stock player... any suggestions on this please
In MX Player, did you long press the video then select Play... and then S/W decoder? Not had a video it can't handle yet

+1
it did the trick
Yep, i find MX player to be the best. Some formats work but the sound is out of sync but a quick play with the settings fixed it where as other players couldn't.
This is I think the fourth thread asking the same thing within a week..
MOD please close the thread
So I just recently got updated to jellybean stock from HTC (using HTC ONE X) 4.1
I never had previous problems on ICS of this nature...
All seems well until I try to play 2k (2560x1440) and some (most) 1080p videos web dl of series. (mkv or mp4)
Problem being that the screen doesn't render anything...its just black, I get the control for the media player but no actual video stream, i have audio as well, the doesn't sound like its lagging or anything, I am also able adjust brightness, volume, seek bar works as well, what I noticed is when I took a screen shot with htc default player it took the image and capped it and it was viewable...
I have tried the following: (which all use to play 2k and 1080p files no problem besides the random cutting out but i think thats htc's aggressive ram saving bs)
Mxplayer
Vplayer
default player
dice player,
all do the samething
any ideas?
Have you tried MX Player's HW+ renderer? If all else fails, could you upload the video somewhere and let me test it?

I see you're on a mod'd kernel, could make all the difference?
I am on complete stock everything
I still don't understand why mine wont play it, friend is also problems,
I'm thinking I should just root and load custom rom... only reason I'm keeping it stock is for warranty but my insurance covers anything and more that would happen to it..
this problem and the removal support of MASS STORAGE (don't like the MTP thing) like a flash drive, is another nail in the coffin for this (stock)rom
I noticed today after trying to do some samba sharing with my desktop that when I would go to watch the video I was unable to use anything other than the default android Video Player. Just so you all know: Yes I have other video players installed, also Yes I have gone into app settings and removed all default apps from being default. After doing all of that I still do not see any other of my video players when I go to watch any of these videos. Thank you all for any help you may have.
