Turn i337 into T919 - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

I have a AT&T i337 Samsung S4. It is rooted, and has a custom rom / Recovery. I want to give the phone to my son, I want to put a T-Mobile ROM on it. I want it to be as stock Samsung as possible for him. What all should I flash? ROM? Kernel? Modems?

This the latest stock rom available at the moment. Only thing is that it doesn't contain the stagefright fix, so you'll have to download a third party sms app for the fix.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=55374113
Flash the rom, nothing else should be needed. Just make sure you update your device's modem to the latest for i337
Oh and it's M919

If the i337 has a locked bootloader, you may have issues trying to flash a non-AT&T ROM.

[SOLVED]: Rogers Galaxy S3 SGH-I747M

My friend moved back to Pakistan from Canada recently and brought his phone back with him. Since the phone was purchased from Rogers, it was locked to Rogers network in Canada.
He brought it to Pakistan and had it unlocked for 10 USD at a store.
He isn't familiar with rooting and all so he didn't pay attention as to how the unlock was done and is not sure if it was a factory unlock or not.
He showed me his phone recently and I noticed they had rooted it.
He wants to update his phone to 4.3 Jellybean but he can't use OTA because his device status has been changed to 'Modified'.
If I download a 4.3 firmware for the I747M and flash it will the phone get locked again? On SamMobile, there is a firmware that shows Canda (Rogers) on one of the firmwares, if I download it and flash it will the phone get locked again or will it stay unlocked even though its being flashed with a Rogers firmware.
There is also another firmware with the Country/Carrier showing as 'Unknown' as SamMobile. If I flash this firmware, will the device get locked? What does 'Unknown' mean on a firmware?
Thanks
What OS is on the phone right now? If the phone is running 4.3, do not flash any stock firmware unless it is 4.3 or higher.
I don't think it makes a difference as to whether the phone was unlocked via rooting or code, it will remain unlocked after flashing.
I unlocked my Bell s3, as have many others, using a free method and the phone has remained unlocked, even though I reloaded a stock Bell 4.1.1 rom and then a stock Bell 4.1.2 rom.

It's on 4.1.1 right now. So if I flash a Rogers 4.3 firmware?
Sent from my Galaxy S III using Tapatalk
You can flash it but I would not do it. The 4.3 ROM will install Knox which can make rooting more difficult and harder to unbrick.
You can install a custom recovery and just flash a custom 4.4.2 ROM. This allows you to easily return to a stock ROM in the future.

My friend does want KitKat on his phone, so how do I flash a 4.4.2 ROM?
Can I flash the CWM Recovery meant for the I747? Will it make a difference if my device is the I747M?
Will I747 ROMs work on the I747M?
Thanks for the help BTW
You can flash Philz Touch Recovery via Odin. Once that is flashed correctly, you can download a ROM, save it on the phone's internal or external memory, boot into recovery, wipe Dalvik Cache, cache, and data. Then flash the rom and reboot.

I just started flashing ROMs onto my s3 and prefer an aosp interface.
I don't know of any that look like stock kit Kat but you could use as theme chooser to find something you like.
I recommend that you not update to 4.3.

I've decided against updating to 4.3 but I'm looking for an AOSP 4.4 KitKat ROM.
I tried Themer on my phone but didn't like it.

You can search for themes on the play store. Many of them require a certain launcher. When you find a theme you like, just download the required launcher and install the theme.
Were you able to load a custom rom onto the phone?

I haven't tried yet since the phone is not with me.
To be honest, I've used 3-4 launchers from the Play Store but they still don't give the same experience as the Custom ROM.
Thanks
Every ROM uses some sort of launcher and certain themes only support certain launchers.
Personally, I like Cyanfox because of its dark UI.

Hi, I'm trying to unlock my Galaxy S3 I747M and I see that you were able to do so via a free method, now would that free method be via a survey, or a magazine deal or Netflix? I'm currently in Trinidad and it comes up with something like, Deals are not available in your country. I would like to use this phone while here on a work assignment so if you could please tell me how you were able to do this it would muchly be appreciated. Its on a Canadian carrier and with Rogers. Also on 4.1.2

The free method is not any sort of offer from any company. In order to use the free method, you need to flash a stock Rogers 4.1.1 ROM via Odin 3.07 because a stock 4.1.1 ROM is the only ROM that has the necessary menu options to do it. If you flash a stock ROM, you will loose all of the data and apps on your phone.
The i747m is a Bell phone. I think Rogers is an i747r.

[Q] AT&T TW ROM on TMO Note 3?

I'm still new to the Note 3 so forgive me if this is common knowledge.
Is it possible to flash AT&T N3 ROM's onto this TMO phone?
My TMO phone is being used on my AT&T plan. So I figured I'd give an AT&T TW ROM a try. But the phone won't boot up on either of the two 4.4.2 ROM's I've tried. Like this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2709701
I had 4.4.2 AOSP ROM on before this.
Ohhhhh, you know what, I bet it's that stupid safelock recovery thing they use.
Since we have a *real* recovery, maybe the ROM isn't compatible with our recovery?
Can anyone recommend a strong TouchWiz ROM that would have all the AT&T phone stuffs in it?
Doesn't need to be themed. Just looking for a ROM that has been updated quite a bit and had lots of kinks knocked out already.
You can flash any AT&T ROM with this phone with TWRP. Kernel is the reason it doesn't boot up. Flash Madmack's kernel after flashing an AT&T ROM and it'll boot. Kernel here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=50156813&postcount=923

[Q] Can you flash Koodo SGH-I747M with AT&T's Kit-Kat?

I unlock both my Koodo SGH-I747M by following the instructions (just by punching a bunch of codes) from one of those YT video and I've been using T-Mobile's prepaid service since.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/general/american-canadian-sgs3-read-flashing-t1757755
Since the specs are all the same for SGH-I747M (AT&T/Telus/Bells/Koodo/Rogers) + my phones are unlock, does that mean I can flash both my phones with Kit-Kat (once released) by any of these carriers (AT&T/Telus/Bells/Koodo/Rogers)?
Thanks.
p/s currently still on the original 4.1.1
I would not do it as att and koodo use different bootloaders and modems.

Glad I asked first, thanks for the reply and it makes sense :good:.
Personally, I would avoid knox as most custom KK ROMs will work fine with the 4.1.2 bootloader. I would only upgrade the bootloader if it was required for a ROM I really wanted to use.
Your unlock means nothing to the ability to install a ROM or not.
Now, you can install the Samsung ported Sprint Kitkat ROM for AT&T if you update your bootloader and modem to the MK5 version and never use ODIN or try to downgrade your bootloader ever again ! This ROM will not work without the MK5 bootloader and modem. If you proceed that way, your warranty will be void
Also, you can always flash Koodo builds
If you wish to keep your current bootloader, you can always install any of the non samsung ROMs, but some will require that you have the MF1 bootloader at the least (CM for example).

[Modem][Baseband]4.4.2 Modems for I747/I747M

WARNING!!!!
Do not flash a 4.4.2 modem if you are running 4.3 firmware (bootloaders)!!!!
This will cause a permanent hard-brick!!! There is no fix!!!
The only reason anyone should need to flash one of these is if they had flashed a 4.3 or earlier modem for whatever reason. Once updated to 4.4.2 firmware, ONLY that matching modem will work. Flashing anything else will result in no signal and most likely an "Unknown" baseband and IMEI. If you flashed an older modem, you will need to flash back to the 4.4.2 one and these will all come back.
This has happened a number of times already, and continues to happen still. So I figured I would put them in a separate thread to make them easier to find.
Flash from the recovery of your choice, or Mobile Odin. The updater-script for these includes an assert that should prevent flashing on anything that does not have the correct bootloader.
Full Disclosure: I do not have an I747 or I747M, and as such, I am unable to test any of these. I have full confidence they will work as expected though. (I have been doing the modems for the T999 for a couple of years now). Still, you should know they are currently untested.

These modems will only work if you have updated to the latest 4.4.2 base firmware and bootloaders. The ROM you are running is irrelevant. If everything is currently working, you have no need for these.
I need this files to repair Unknow baseband and IMEI null in my I747M VLUFNE6 4.4.2

OP Updated!
As requested, I have added the latest I747M, NH2 modems for the Canadian carriers that received this update.
Hello Doc, I have an issue trying to upload the modem on my sgh i747 because when I downloaded the CWM modem gives me Error 7 and dont let me upload the modem actually I have I747UCUEMJB and 4.4.4 slimkat, but my bigger problem is the imei, baseband null. helpme please all the night I wastryng many solutions and I am so tired now.. thanks
You probably never updated your firmware to 4.4.2.
To know for sure open terminal emulator and enter this.
getprop ro.bootloader
If it says MJB, you haven't updated your firmware yet and flashing this modem would permanently break your phone. If it is MJB, flash the same firmware via Odin and factory reset. That often fixes the imei problem. If it does not, pm me for further help with it. Can't post those instructions here.

Thanks for keeping the support for this phone going. I have the latest bootloader ..uemk5 for my Rogers sghI747m.
I tried to flash this and got a status 7.
I have been using the ..UEND3 Modem up till now.
You need to update first or this modem would permanently brick your device. MK5 is a 4.3 build. I think the latest Rogers is NF2. You cannot flash this modem unless you've already updated. And then you won't need this. I released these because some mistakenly flash the older 4.3 modems after updating and find it won't work, so they needed a way back.

No Cell data after root and new rom and recovery.
Hi,
This is a repost from the S3 help forum as the OP here seems very knowledgeable about modems and bootloaders. Excuse the redundancy.
I was given a used ATT I747 s3 which had stock 4.3 , modem/bootloader mjb, and knox. I rooted, removed knox and installed slim 4.4.4 rom, lean 4.4.4 kernel and latest philz recovery. All running ok
including cell calls to/from phone, mms, apps and wifi data. Same modem/bootloader (MJB), IMEI accurate after upgrade. However ATT cellular data will not connect and or transmit and/or receive using att, phone or lte APN.
Any help/thoughts appreciated?
Could be the rom. I've been hearing about a lot of connection issues on cm/aosp based roms lately. Try flashing back to stock to see if it works.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk
Nevermind I re read. Did it work before you installed lean kernel?
Sent from my SGH-I747M using XDA Free mobile app
In my upgrade process, the first thing I did, after the recovery had been updated to Philz, was install slim rom and lean kernel together and at the same time. That was when the problems began. They went away when I reinstalled slim rom only (without lean kernel). Everything now ok. Hope that helps.
I'll start by saying I'm very much a noob but read and read as much as I can and have been following quite closely a lot of the s3 development so anyone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
It seems in the past few months a lot has changed with kernels and compatibility has broken numerous times. If the dates of the releases of kernel and Rom aren't quite close then some commits in the rom could break data, wifi, etc. If your running the latest nightly Rom make sure your using a recent kernel. Always just make a backup before flashing custom kernel and then you can revert right back if the kernel breaks anything.
Hope that helps...

Rooted SGH-i747 AT&T - want to install stock T-Mobile ROM

I have a Samsung S3 AT&T version, SGH-i747. The phone is rooted and I have the ROM backed up using CWM.
Can I flash this phone with the stock T-Mobile ROM version without any issues (I believe it is T999?).
My goal is to get wifi calling which doesn't come with the ATT model and from what I've read, if I can install the T-Mobile stock ROM or a custom version of it, it will come the wifi calling capability.
Thanks
Hi,
According to my experience, I would say NO.
But you can try it. And if it doent work, revert back to your ROM
By the way I am using custom ROM too on ATT phone.
It may be a matter of semantics, but do not install the stock T-mobile rom. Stock implies you will also be flashing the bootloader and modem. Installing the T999 bootloader and modem on the i747 will brick it. Anything from Sammobile would flash bootloader and modem.
Now, I have seen a number of CM, AOSP, and custom TouchWiz (based on Stock Samsung) ROMs for the i747 that will run on the T999. I would think the reverse would hold true, the T999 ROMs running on the i747. AS LONG AS they do not flash bootloader and modem. BE ADVISED, I have not searched the T999 threads to verify this conjecture. Some doubt enters my mind as I recall that T999 ROMs support AWS while i747 ROMs do not, this may break running them on the i747.
The T999 roms should run fine for the most part. It's safe to flash one to try, just DO NOT flash the firmware as mentioned above.
As for WiFi calling, don't get your hopes up. If I'm not mistaken it's tied into the modem (part of the firmware you cannot flash). So unless you have a T999, WiFi calling won't work.
