Disable OTA but still get app updates? - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

Hi, I'm running CleanROM 7.1 and keep getting OTA notifications. The ROM thread is closed now but before it was @Adrozz07 posted the following

Long press the notification and press the info icon on the expanded notification. It takes you to a notification settings menu where you can turn the notification off.

Doing that I get this and I'm assuming "turn the notification off" refers to enabling "Block all".
So my question is, is there a way to disable OTA update notifications but still get app updates? Or do people normally just enable "Block all" then periodically disable it, get app updates (but not get the unwanted OTA update), then re-enable "Block all"?
Thanks

You can always set your apps to update automatically or just check the play store manually. It wouldn't require you to enable notifications just to get app updates.

Whatsapp "power intensive" notification

Since we've been using our P6 we keep getting a notification that Whatsapp is currently a "power intensive" app. After clicking on the notification it takes me to the "Bkgd power-intensive apps" screen under the "power manager" menu where we can see Whatsapp at the top of the list with a red battery next to it, and "power intensive" under it. It's suggesting we close the app, so we do. Obviously Whatsapp needs to be running to receive messages so the service restarts. A bit later we get the notification again. If we disable Whatsapp from running in the background we don't receive any Whatsapp messages so it has to be left to run in the background. Does anyone know how to disable this notification, or has anyone else had this issue...!?
I've seen an ignore sign somewhere...

Yes I looked for 'ignore' but there wasn't one. I've seen 'ignore' on other notifications but not this one. Just waiting for it to pop up again, maybe take a screenshot.,,

What I did to stop the "power intensive" notification pupping every time is that; After entering >Power Manager >Background apps Manager > Just slide the "All" switch to the left to turn of all applications. Since then i have not receive the notification. I don't know if my apps have all stop working in the background but after a while i will confirm that.

[Q] How to turn off Flipboard notifications?

How do you turn off Flipboard notifications? I'm tired of this app spamming me every day, I've tried going into the app going to profile, hitting the settings icon and then going to Push Notifications and unchecking all of the boxes but its still sending me the notifications!
Thanks.
Block it with debloater
Goto tablet settings, apps, find flipboard and turn off notifications, simple ☺

Same issue here. Turning off push notifications does not do the trick. Pissing me off, tell you what.

That's the problem, I use it daily, just hate the notifications. I have everything unchecked in settings and still they notify me. Ugh.
If the app is running in background you still get notifications, even with it disabled in settings, only way to stop it is to open recent apps and clear flipboard once youve stopped using it, this seems to happen with alot of apps, i get the same thing with news republic app

Android allowing notifications
The Blocking Mode on Galaxy devices lets you disable the entire notifications on your device, But how to disable notifications on Android for selected apps? follow the instruction to specify which application is allowed to show notifications on the status bar:
1. Open Settings and go to Application Manager (or Apps on some devices)
2. Now you should see the list of installed applications on your device
3. Tap the application you would like to disable notifications
4. Make sure "Show Notifications" is not checked
androidwidgetcenter.com/android-tips/how-to-disable-notifications-on-android-for-selected-apps/
I also cleared data and signed out - some who still use FB may not want to go this far.
I'm so proud of myself. Some months ago, I started searching the Internet to find out how to end those annoying Flipboard notifications. Today, I was out searching, again. Somehow, I accidentally discovered the answer. And you'll flip when you read my solution! (Definitely, no pun intended. )
To disable Flipboard:
1. Go to your notifications.
2. Find a recent Flipboard notification item and touch and hold the notification item.
This action should take you directly to the app's notifications settings. At the very top is the option to disable Flipboard's notifications.
This worked in my Sansung Galaxy S7, but I see no reason it shouldn't work for other devices/users who are disgusted with the annoyance.

Persistent Notifications

I'm assuming this has been answered before but I can't find it.
I have several persistent notifications on my pull down menu (Tasker, Should I Answer, Adguard and Light Flow) on my Nexus 5x running latest 7.0 preview. Is there some way I can get rid of them? I know that I can disable the notifications but the apps warn that this may cause them to be shut down (especially as I have Greenify running whenever I turn off the screen as I am unrooted). Basically, I want to clean up my pull down menu without having to root. Any help would be appreciated.

if you disable notifications within the apps there is a risk of termination as they are not running in the foreground anymore.
so instead try to disable notifications via the regular phone's setting, section notifications. there you can set notification-permissions per app.

Remove them from greenify if you have them in there. If you need to set a persistent notification then they should not be greenified in the first place.
Then disable the persistent notifications and see what happens.
Otherwise no there isn't a way and they need to be there for the apps usability.

Remove update notification?

Is there anyway to remove the persistent update notification other than actually updating the phone? Im rooted so if there is a system app to freeze or something like that i'd appreciate the info
Turn off the notification for Google Play Services (long press on the update notification itself to get to notification options).
well that was easy thnx m8

(Q) Get Rid of Android 8.0 Notification?

Is there an easy way to get rid of the Android System Upgrade 8.0 Notification? Tried swiping it off but it's persistent. I'm rooted & running PN. Automatic System Updates are turned off in Developer Options. (I'd rather not block all notifications from Google Play Services as a means to banish this notification)
Thanks.
Here's a screenshot
See screenshot of the persistent notification below:
Turn off messages from Google Play Services either through the app settings or by long pressing the notification.
