I used my upgrade to get the Galaxy S3. My buddy said he'd buy it off me and I was going to use that money towards the note 2. I've never bought a phone without using the upgrade, so I have a few questions.
Will I be able to buy a non-branded note 2 with lte and get it activated on Verizon? Will I get the same speeds I get with a phone I bought from them? Will I just continue on with my same contract like nothing happened?
Will I be able to walk into the Verizon store with the note 2 and the galaxy S3 and leave with the gs3 activated for my buddy and the note 2 for me?
If everything is yes, is there a downside to this I haven't thought of?
Thanks
In theory yes if the LTE bands match. In practice you have to wait for the VZW note 2 before you can buy it to ensure compatibility.
The current crop of notes and GSM note 2 are incompatible.

Oh the downside expect to spend around $300 out of pocket our something like that.

like the other guy alluded to, the international (unbranded) Note's are all GSM. they won't work on the CDMA network even if the LTE bands match.
EDIT: And Verizon doesn't allow rogue IMEI's/ESN's onto their network. so no matter how you look at it the N7000/N7105 won't work on Verizon. or Sprint.
So I have to buy it from Verizon? I was hoping to avoid the locked boot loader
I would wait till it is available on secondary markets like Ebay or swappa. Don't worry about the boot loader that's what XDA will take care of.

if you're on Verizon, yes. the phone must come from Verizon.
It needs to be Verizon device but does not need to bought from VZW directly.
direct from VZW is the most expensive way to buy

As the others pointed out, you will need to buy Verizon's version of the Note.
Since you already used your upgrade on the GSIII you will have to buy the Note at full retail price (probably upwards of $700).
Your buddy's money for the GSIII, may not be enough to cover your purchase of the Note. You will be spending a lot of money out-of-pocket.
How long after it comes out before its on eBay?
And how much can I expect to save by not buying from Verizon?
It depends I know on eBay u sometimes may pay at least the same retail value but with no tax.. it honestly depends on the market for the note

Expect it to be on ebay immediately for 1-200 dollars more than verizon charges, it may take a few weeks to drop to below what verizon charges.
Over the last week I've asked a couple questions.. got some answered but can now verify....
FIrst Straight Talk... I bought the Tmobile Note 2.. unlocked it... cut my AT&T straight talk sim to the right size.. I used the tmobile micro sim as a template, then updated apn settings and wam bam I'm using an At&t straight talk Sim with a Tmobile Note 2 using AT&T APN settings. NO FLASHING MODEMS/Radios . Speeds seem to be similar to my ATT Note 1.. the fastest I've witnessed was 6mbps.. usually averaging 1.5mb -2mb.. somewhere in there. Also calling and txt/sms work perfect. The only other thing I did was root following the simple rooting guide.. took 3 minutes. Only reason I did that was so I have the option of tethering when I need to. Straight Talk is unlimited everything for a flat $45.. no taxes or nothing.. $45! I am careful when using data.. one weekend I used about 6gb of data watching some netflix on a roadtrip and a few days later got a warning about excessive data usage and it 'could' be against they're EULA. To me it's worth it to be somewhat mindful of my data usage for the cost savings.
The other thing is the phone fits Samsung's offical car dock for the Note 1. It's a tight squeeze and I'll probably do some adjustments with a dremmell to the dock so the phone goes in with a little more ease.. but it's awesome it works.. that sucker is expensive.. but it works great!

You don't need to unlock it
You do not need to unlock the phone to work on Straight Talk. When you order your sim card you get to choose Tmobile or At&T card. If you are going to use it on the Tmobile Galaxy Note II, then you do not have to unlock it just works as long as you get the right one.

Tmobile Straight Talk Speeds on Tmobile Galaxy Note 2
I keep seeing alot of people posting about their experiences with the Tmobile Galaxy Note 2 on Straight Talk AT&T, but I was wondering if anyone has used the Tmobile Straight talk sim, cut it to size and used the Tmobile Galaxy Note 2 on it. ...What were your speed Downloads? Why cut or use the Att Straight talk sim?

I'm using a straight talk tmo sim in my note 2 the highest I've hit was about 15mbits down and 5mbits up. Seems to work just fine, I just cut my full sized tmo st sim down popped it in the phone and put the tmobile straight talk apn.

Wow those are pretty great speeds. I am currently using the AT&T straight talk sim in the T-Mobile GS3 and I dont get anywhere near that speed. I have been planning on buying the White Note 2 from Tmobile (outright) full price but they havent put it on their website wihtout a contract yet. Only the grey one. So I'm hoping I can just walk in to a Tmobile store and buy a full priced White one that way. Thanks! By the way...have you run into your speeds being capped/throttled for too much usage on Straight Talk? I ran into this a few days ago but I simply called Straight Talk and they reset my network....

I bought the Note 2 and it will NOT be leaving my hands anytime soon cause it's a BEAST of a phone!! That being said, the Nexus 4 will be in my pocket asap as well cause the price is so low I can't say no... I love it! I would go with the Note 2 if I had to pick just one though... Just my opinion of course...
You're not making this easier for me!!!! lol....you are right about the price for the nexus 4...its so low its hard to resist...the thing is the nexus 10 tablet isnt that bad of a price either and if I bought both the nexus 4 and nexus 10 id still be around the same price range as the note 2 by itself (without a contract).. I already have the GS3 and im scared itll be alittle too similar to the note2...

well if you want to buy the note 2 at full price, TMOBILE online is not the best place to look. what you need to do is, do a seach on your pc for tmobile store locator for stores in your local area and call them one by one and ask if the will sell you the note2 at full price, and if they say yes. you make sure you ask to speak to the store manager just to make sure, because sometime store rep will tell you one thing and when you get there it's a different story i've been in that position before and you don't want to waste time going from one store to an other store. that's the best way to get your note2, and after you get it if you are already a tmobile customer for the pass 60 to 90 days you can get your unlock code for the note2, just wait for a week to go by before you call and ask for an unlock code. because if you call them right after from purchasing the note2 they wil send you an email saying that you have to wait for their system to see you using the note2 before you can apply for an unlock code.

I am with you on everything except your first comment... I bought my phone off-contract the day it came out at my local T-mobile store and I already had the $30 plan so I waited a few days (like you said) because their system must be in the dark ages to not be able to tell what phone your running on their system but that's what they told me as well so I waited 2 days and asked the agent if my phone was coming up in their system and she FINALLY said yes so I requested my unlock code and had it the very next day in my inbox... I switched to Straight Talk because their speeds are more faster and consistent in MY area so it's going to differ for a lot of people on which service to go to... Straight Talk or T-mobile.... If you are in an area like mine than Straight Talk is going to be faster than T-mobile ever has been and I live in an area where Verizon first started to build out LTE so idk why T-mobile has not upgraded over here yet?? Anyways, long story short, you have quite a few carrier options with your unlocked T-mobile Note 2!
So my main question here is can I unlock this phone and use it with my Straight Talk ATT Sims card like I have in the past with other phones. They seller on eBay is stating that the phone does have a bad IMEI and is Financed with Tmobile. So does this stop this phone from being used with Pre Paid Carriers such as ATT or Straight Talk? I really want to use this phone but I do not want to buy a paper weight.
yes you can I went through the same thing...I can't remember if I got LTE or not but it will work.

Thanks so much for the fast reply next question did T-Mobile a few months later block your phone completely or are you (was you) able to continue using that phone? I do not wish to get "screwed" over if you know what I mean... I have had no issues with unlocking other devices and using my sims with them but this will be the first time I have tried with a device that has a bad IMEI. I guess if worst come to worst I have 14 days to send the device back for a full refund. I only need to test for a day to see if it can even be done. I do not see them blocking it once I unlock the device and port it to a new pre paid carrier. If anyone else has any other information or experiences I would very much appreciate the feedback!!!

It will not work. There is a national blacklist. Even if it does work, it won't for long.
what happened was that I bought a T Mo GN 2 off craigslist a month after it came out. I didn't know it was financed through the company so I got the phone activated with T-Mo. About a month later the phone had an X over the signal bar, So I called T-Mo and they said that the phone was blocked because it was financed through them and the seller didn't pay the bill. So I went through ST with a T- MO version of the sim card and the phone didn't work either. So I was like ok lets try the ST ATT Sim. And it worked ever since then. I think they only put it on the national blacklist if it was stolen. But I sold the phone last year and it was working on ATT Straight Talk service up until that point.

So with the Pixel phone being sold through Verizon here in the US, do you think this phone will be fully unlocked if bought from them?
Wow, that is expensive... and sold out...
Didn't get one, but want the 128 GB (though I wish they offered a 64GB).
Add the protection plan for another $100, sitting at close to $1000!

Being it's Verizon I would say very likely but I am sure it will get cracked at least until new updates remember this is Verizon your talking about they love to be in control of things that they have no right to be. Easy fix don't buy from Verizon buy from Google or if you can buy from HTC as they will treat you better in the long run like the $100 in free accessories they gave the HTC 10 buyers after we got an extra free USB-C charge cable months before and maybe uh oh protection might be included too but that is hoping lol.
Is there any downsides from purchasing from google vs Verizon? Will we get access to the same LTE bands, etc.?
In the past, have google versions of phones have come with unlocked bootloaders but verizon come with locked versions of the same devices?

Given the way the past Nexus devices (that included support for Verizon and were eventually sold through them) the answer is no. They use the exact same hardware presumably. But until we start seeing model numbers confirmed it could be a possibility. But the unlocked version will support Verizon and it will have Google as your main access for support (which has been good to some people in the past).

The only reason I'd consider buying it straight from Verizon is because it would be added onto my bill in which my job would end up paying for my phone. If I buy it from the PlayStore i'd have to buy it on my own.
I think I'm going to end up with a Note 7.

If you get it from Verizon they are offering the promotion 2 year contract again exclusively for this phone. So you can get the pixel 128gb for like $300....but it might be bootloader locked and you won't get the free vr headset promo the Google store is offering right now.

Oh that's it. Anyone on a contract can keep getting new contracts like that. But new customers cannot get a contract from Verizon directly. You can still get service through Verizon with a new contract and subsidised phone you just have to purchase the Verizon service through dealers like best buy and target I know they both list new Verizon service with a contract where you get the phone subsidised instead of a payment plan or paying full retail price for the phone.

Yeah, but it took well over a year to unlock the verizon S5 (at least. I hadn't looked for another year, so it might have been over 2). It'll be cracked Eventually but how long will it take
I'm not too worried about the bootloader being locked as I've stopped rooting my phones and flashing ROMS but I just need to know if the Verizon model has all the bands to work properly on t-mobile. I have 2 sims and need to confirm this.
Bootloader is definitely locked. Saw this question/answer on the VZW Page this morning for the Pixel XL.
I just preordered the pixel xl from best buy and extended my contract with Verizon. Does anybody know if the version they carry is the same as Verizon's or the unlocked version in the play store?

I guess that's why tethering works for me, I'm rooted. But that shouldn't be the answer it should work without root, unfortunately i didn't think to test that before i unlocked my bootloader and rooted.
I'm rooted on XL with the build.prop edit and it's not working for me. It connects, but gives no data. Any idea as to why?

I'm have the Verizon version of the Pixel 2 XL and tethering works fine out of the box for me.
depends if you're prepaid or postpaid. Tethering won't work on the prepaid $80 plan.

On XL when I turn it on, devices connect, but don't have a connection. I have the pixel and pixel XL. One on T-Mobile and the other on Verizon. I swapped Sims and same thing. T-Mobile works just fine on either phone.
Whichever one I put Verizon Sim in can't tether suddenly.

I have it out of the box ....but I don't know why people think the VZ sold product is any different than the G-store item
Uhg..much reading later I think its going back...Seems the VZ version cannot get bootloader unlocked and if so it seems like a hell of a mess. Im just a simple flasher..or please correct me if I am wrong??

Hey there I work for Verizon. So hotspot is disabled on prepaid $60 and $80 plans. As far as postpaid. They made it more complicated.
"Verizon unlimited"no longer available unless you switched to it from the beginning. This plan includes 15gb of high-speed hotspot/tether is included with this plan and will slow to unlimited 3g speeds after. You get 22gb of prioritized high speed lte. Now if your at a big event like a baseball game. Everyone who has Verizon there will be on the same tower. Those that are on this plan and have gone over the 22gb if data will experience a slower connection for the time period until they leave and connect to a different tower. Also includes calls to Mexico and Canada whether you're here or there. $85 bucks $80 with auto pay.
"Go unlimited" this plan has no high speed lte hotspot. But you have unlimited 3g hot spot. You are not prioritized, you can be slowed down on a busy tower wether you have used 1gb or 100gb of data. no Mexico no Canada. And 480p restriction for streaming. $80 bucks $75 with auto pay.
"Beyond unlimited" this is much like the first plan I listed. Everything is the same except there's a 720p restriction on streaming and it's $90 bucks $85 with autopay.
Hopefully you jumped on the first plan when u had the chance. All they accomplished by splitting the plan into two was confused the hell out of me. Lol. Let me know if you need anything else and answered. I'm always willing to help! I love verizon where I live. It's pretty much king here. I switched jobs and service from T-Mobile. I hate that my Pixel 2 XL is locked but it's probably a blessing in disguise knowing my luck.

My understanding is, you can buy both the Google version and the Verizon version from Google. BUT, the Verizon version from Google IS locked and from all that I've read, it's locked REAL tight, like many other Verizon devices are.
I think the confusion stems from those buying it outright from Google presume their Verizon device will be unlocked, and it isn't. It's the exact same device you'd get if you walked into a Verizon store (I'm sure there's a ton of legal wording preventing Google from selling Verizon branded unlocked devices.
I'm not sure why anyone would pay the same for a locked device over a unlockable device. If you're never going to unlock it, get the unlockable one JUST IN CASE you change your mind, if not, it's a selling feature for the future.
Hopefully this clears things up a bit.

In the event you didn't catch it in the 6P thread, he said he purchased a 2 XL.
I asked him if the development would be similar for the 2 and the 2 XL and he said absolutely.
So, it's coming
