Are there any Nexus 5X stock rooted ROMs? Everytime a new factory image is released, is there a way to flash the Stock ROM without relocking, returning to root, flashing the .img, and then redoing it to make a TWRP backup?
Edit: I found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/nex...-cleancore-n5x-100-lean-stock-mdb08i-t3236956
but if it wasn't updated, do you just have to do the steps I did above?

Hey guys,
I'm one of the many Galaxy Nexus owners that don't like their battery usage at all. The device is a yakjuxw build running 4.0.1.
First thing I wanted to do was to update to the official 4.0.2 image from Google. Now lurking through all these threads I saw that most of you recommend franco's kernel for its awesome battery performance. By flashing that custom kernel will I still be able to get OTAs? (on a stock official 4.0.2 image)
Also, some of you reported that the 4.0.2 OTA was pulled back due to some issues. Should I still flash the 4.0.2 image in this case?
Thanks,
NiGhTTraX
To flash a kernal, you need a unsecured boot.img. Its is usually provided with roms but if you want just the Kernal you will need it. To flash that you need to flash recovery Clockworkmod preferably.that will not stop you from getting otas but ubwont be able to install them as ours need stock recovery. So in essence, yes it will prevent you

You need clockwork to flash a zipped file. To flash a boot.img all you need is fastboot. And i highly recommend manually flashing 4.0.2. You dont need clockwork recovery. And flash a radio more suitable to your region. That too will help battery life.

I thought that if you don't delete the boot recovery image using the root explorer app, once you restart the phone CWM will be overwritten by the factory default image. So shouldn't that allow OTAs to be applied?

So just flashing the 4.0.2 will still get me OTAs right? And all I need is fastboot for that, am I right?

You won't be able to use Franco's kernel unless you flash to a rom based on 4.0.3. You can always go back to stock as long as you have cwm recovery. Users always post stock back ups that you can just copy to your phone and restore from.

Hello Everyone,
I am enjoying my Galaxy Nexus very much, but I am a little confused about doing a backup. I am currently unlocked bootloader but have un-rooted in preparations for the Verizon OTA. My question is....what is the best way to do a full back up non rooted. I currently have the full version of My Backup Pro, but that doesn't seem to backup the data portion of an app....just the app. I have used Wugs toolkit to do a backup, but I was wondering what is the easiest/best way.
I am confused I think due to the lack of an actual SD card. I cam from a Droid X and had it rooted and used Titanium Backup and My Backup Pro with no issues. Thanks for any help!!!!!
If you want to do a complete backup you can flash CWM in fastboot (using mskip's GNex Toolkit), do a nandroid backup, then flash back to stock recovery. Only requires unlocked bootloader.
Rooting has NO IMPACT WHATSOEVER on your ability to receive and install the OTA update.

efrant is correct, you will still be notified of the official OTA even if you have your bootloader unlocked and you are rooted. Once you download and install the OTA, then you will lose root.
Thanks for the responses. From my understanding though, if you used CWM to do your root (Wug's Toolkit) you would not be able to see/get the OTA. Is this correct? What method are you using to root your Nexus?
Again thanks for the help!!!! Another thing that is messing me up is the Google/Samsung/Verizon versions of the OTA. I have "mysid" so do I need to wait for the OTA or can I flash one of the 4.04s that are around. I am still learning about the difference of GSM vs CDMA and I really don't want to create issues with my Nexus!!!!

Why install clockworkmod?
You can install clockwork by doing (in the assumption you renamed the clockwork recovery img to cwm.img):
"Fastboot flash recovery cwm.img" okay...
But you can also run cwm without installing it to the system by doing:
"Fastboot boot cwm.img"
When you reboot the system afterward your phone will erase the one-time run and refer back to it's old ways again.
No manufacturer will know what you did and you don't run the risk of flashing a conflicting stock recovery back. Plus the fact that your nandroid backup will flash the right recovery to when you ever need to put a backup back after a crash.

Can anyone make and post a stock recovery image? Forgot to backup mine before flashing TWRP. I would guess the stock one is needed for future OTA updates, right?
For warranty purposes, i need to do these. Currently, my FLO's bootloader is unlocked, rooted and has custom kernel and recovery. but it is still in Stock JSS15R Rom. how will i unroot, flash stock kernel and relock without downloading stock roms? is that possible? because the method i only see here is to flash stock rom or use nexus toolkit to unroot. but i think when i use the toolkit it downloads the stock rom again right? thanks in advance!

^thanks for this! i'll try this later..
does TWRP able to flash a stock rom?
if it possible, will it cause any problem?
my device is rooted and using stock rom (planning to flash CM)
a) if you have twrp installed, then just backup before flashing any other roms, then factory reset and restore to go back to factory if needed.
b) you can flash OTA with twrp, and I ma pretty sure full stock roms too. See this guide. There is a thread on xda too, but I don't have it bookmarked.
I hope that answers your question.
P.S.
Remember that you have to unlock bootloader for TWRP, and if you want to use OTA function on stock rom with TWRP you need to fully unroot first.
@DiGecko
Thank you very much
