Z5 premium vr headset - Xperia Z5 Premium Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I'm thinking to buy that phone, I use a lot vr headset (only for the movies) any owner of the phone try it? From my understanding if I play movie it will have 4k resolution, but what if I play the same movie in program like vr cinema, it's still will be 4k or 1080p?
Sent from my LG-D855 using Tapatalk

I have the Google cardboard and I did play around with it for a few minutes. I couldn't find a vr app that actually played the one 4k video that I downloaded so I couldn't really test it.
And I haven't really tested a standard 1080 screen with the cardboard so I can't really tell you the differences.
I don't think they've got the youtube app to support 4k yet aswell so at the moment the support for the 4k screen is kinda poor.
But the phone display is something else I'd recommend the phone for this reason.

3D via USB to HDMI connector?

Hi,
I was wondering if the Galaxy S2 is capable of playing 3D videos via the HDMI connector.
I like the feature of playing 1080p on the tv, but if i could play my 3d 1080p videos on my 3d tv it would be much better.
I found nowhere information about this, so i hope someone of you knows it or has already tested it.

it cant play 3d movies
This version specification of MHL (1.0) does not have 3D capability.
A future (next?) version will.
Therefore, no for the SGS2 for 3D MHL.
it depends on the technique used to make the video 3d.
if you have side by side 3d videos, the galaxy IS capable, because it is just a regular 1080i/p video and the tv makes it 3d, so it does not need special requirements in the device or the cable to make it possible. this would be the case for recordings of 3d tv, like anixe 3d or sky 3d (in germany). this is also the reason, why 3dtv does not need hdmi 1.4. it is just a regular 1080 picture, and the tv makes it 3d. for other techniques, codecs... this might not apply. in those cases it would not work, either because of the lack of hdmi 1.4 for a proper 3d handshake OR the lack of codecs in the device.
Ok thanks for all the helpful answers.
I have some .mkv files which are based on 3D origin. Some self recorded (avchd to mkv) and some by bluray origin.
Unfortunately i have no idea about the technique of the videos, whether if its side by side or not. I think they are not.
But anyways, i will order the connecter as soon as its availible and will report if it works or not
I have done a quick test and confirm that it does work. The .mkv was a side by side one and plays just like any normal video file. My TV can then mix the 2 together to get 3D.
The file I used was not a particularly good example, if anyone has a link to a test file they would like me try I would be more than happy to.
Since when Galaxy S 2 can record 3d with his camera ?
As far as I know it can't record 3d movies.
I recorded 3d movies with a 3d camcorder, not with my S2.
Im sure the Galaxy S3 will be capable of that.

[Q] Galaxy Nexus and 1080p out.

Hi guys. My GNex only seems to output to 720p when I connect it to the TV or he monitor. Does anyone know if it is possible to get the phone to output in 1080p? Thanks.

No. Unless ICS can "detect displays", it'll only display 720x1280, that the phone resolution.

hmmm I see. So why is it that I keep hearing people touting 1080p output . Can the GS2 output 1080i though? I've heard of some people who have. Really bizzare. My Droid X ran at 858x400 and outputted to 720p so something is up.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
So the GNEX and Rezound both record 1080 but both can't output it? I'm confused. I though my GNEX could record it and then play it? I just got two days ago so pardon my absent of knowledge.
I can confirm that when using MHL to my LCD monitor, all video output is 720p. I tried playing some 1080p H.264 video files but the monitor still says 720p.
I'm beginning to think the GN output is always 720p over MHL.
Can anyone confirm this?
Something is amiss here.
With my Droid X, I can also output to my screen using the micro HDMI cable. The droid x also outputs to 720p; however, the resulting output only takes up a portion of the screen; there are black borders on the sides and on the top and bottom .
My Nexus on the other hand takes up the entire screen, which leads me to believe that this is behaving normally and as intended.

in this video you can see the switch to 1080p when playing a video file in diceplayer (1:35)... maybe the player has to support it?
No change with Dice player
I tried Dice player with a couple 1080p H.264 videos from Youtube. They all play at 720p in the software player and hardware mode.
I saw in that video above it switches. But my Dell 2408WFP monitor still reports 1280x720 mode.
I know 1080p works fine with this monitor and my PS3 using HDMI.
Maybe when you use this:

it works then
I was able to play a 1080p 11gig file on my phone through mhl to my TV and it displayed as 1080p. I was using MX Player and the Samsung mhl adaptor.
I will try this on my non samsung mhl adapter (monoprice verison). I have outputted 720p on my tv but never 1080p.

Are you certain that it was 1080p...?
I shot a test clip with the built in 1080p/24 setting on the camera and it would replay it at 1080p over MHL via the built-in gallery app. I think people run into two type of problems with MHL:
1) Cheap eBay MHL dongles that max out at 720p and won't uprez ever.
2) Non stock playback apps that don't call out to the MHL to up the rez.
Hmmm... I forgot I just got a 1080p plasma. Will have to test tonight.
Sent from my Nexus in Texas.
as far as I'm aware there will only be 1080 p output when playing a 1080 p video file? The rest of the time the display mirrors the phone display at 720 p. Is this the case and are there any games that can take advantage of the larger resolution?

I've recorded a video in 1080, but it still plays in 720. MX player and stock player. Google play movies also play in 720.
Can't figure out how to get this to work.
Also strange, the edges of the display are cut.

I believe you can configure the HDMI settings to cut the (bottom) menus off, my TF300T have it, but I never tried it on my GNEX. I have a (announced as) 1080p MHL=>HDMI cable, tried some 1080p clips but never got my TV to show it above 720p. I'm crazy about it also, I really want to take advantage of FullHD with my Galaxy Nexus.
I'm using MHL Samsung adapter and Samsung 40D7000 tv, and when i play 1080p video through MX Player, TV information shows 1920x1080 resolution.

try and stream a hq quality youtube video and see what pic is like. ive noticed most time trying stream netflix the quality of netflix is causing it to give bad pic.
I tried it. It looks good only with HQ YouTube. Is there anyway to get normal streaming videos or Netflix to look good. I saw a YouTube video were a guys gs2 looked perfect with all streaming

well there are some hd movies on netflix or a movie from market will both look good idk about if there way get reg netflix to look good i havent seen it done.
a lot of shows on the the netflix app is like 480p at best thats why when shown on your 720p-1080p tv it would look very uhh.. bad. You probably need to find shows and movies at higher resolution for it to look crisp.
Well it definitely isn't showing in 480 . Its so horrible I can't even make out faces. There has to be something wrong. Cause the cable is useless

obviously if viewing hq youtube videos produces a good pic then the problem lies within the netflix app itself and its lower quality being streamed. the cable is serving its purpose you just need to stream hd quality video
netflix sucks on my phone
I notice this as well and if you look very closely the same distortion can be seen on the phone as well. I hope we get a better netflix app. I can't believe my wii gets better picture than this great phone. This totally sucks.
Netflix just needs to get it together and make there **** all hd...no reason y I should have to watch low quality picture on phone or streaming on my flat screen

It has nothing to do with this or your NHL HDMI converter. Its more then likely the sync issue between your TV and output of signal from your phone. I can almost assume your outputting to a plasma? Which has a higher refresh rate then a LCD has, this is the problem. Your phone can't satisfy the output request of the plasma, in other words it can't keep up. On a LCD it would look pretty good.

I believe his "blurriness" is referring to the resolution and not the refresh rate. The refresh rate translate to the smoothness and clarity of movements on the screen. I can see what you think he meant by the blurriness, but ultimately, the resolution on netflix is too low to be projected with clarity on a 1080 lcd/plasma screen.
and damn 4.5 years on here with no thanks.. here is one.
+1 - Teo032, there's your thanks.
Anyway, Netflix automaticly cuts the quality down if its not streaming on wifi
Remember when Netflix was first released, it was only to a few phones. The dev masters had to develop work arounds and hacks to get the apk to work. Soon Netflix caved (so we think) and made it available to the masses. You don't think the engineering that went into the final development of the app will prevent total streaming from phone to TV? The Netflix apk is for personal use, for your personal phone, not for streaming to some capture software to be pirated off of some torrent web site. Just put yourself in their shoes. To keeps the deals they made with the production companies, that had to appease them somehow. You can't stream HD quality content from your Netflix app on your phone to any TV out there, no matter if its LCD or plasma. They don't want you to. Its only intended to be viewed from your phone.

People pay Monthly for there Netflix services...you can stream from ps3 to your TV why would it matter that your deciding to use your phone? Either way your paying for the service...bottom line is Netflix is primarily low quality movies...
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA App
ps3 requires a TV, same thing with xbox360. You needs a TV to view Netflix, Hulu+ with game consoles. That's a given. But your smartphone already has a viewable screen. No need to attach any TV. So, they can purposely lower the quality. One of the MAJOR concerns with the movie (old school) studios is piracy. They flawed it from the get go. INTENTIONALLY!
Believe you me! I'll be watching "The Human Centipede" from Netflix on my HD 70" 240hts LCD TV from my phone RIGHT NOW if it can be done. With good quality.
Sorry, but it can't be done.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
Nope I tried on 2 LCD TVs. And no the picture on my phone will always look great while the TV is unviewable. And I can have a megavideo movie playing on my phone that looks excellent when the TV quality is still horrible as well. Is there any app out that may help this problem?

Can anyone recommend a good (cheap) hdmi adapter?

Sorry, do you want a good one or a cheap one?
Both together is nearly impossible, but you are lucky!
We have a priceworthy and good MHL-adaptare (which i think yopu need): http://goo.gl/aD8T7
Shipping to UK is 4€ extra btw.
I got the samsung one from amazon at 13 euros. Decent enough but no HD video. Not with the somesung one or any other adapter i tried. Just keeps the Phones resolution. Fun to play games and maybe a movie though

that's for £15 and claimed to be official. Took almost a week to deliver but worked without fault. Going by few reviews of "cheap" adapters, it seemed hit n miss thingy. Thought price is in middle for something genuine.
I can't vouch for the quality of this as I'm waiting for mine to be delivered (only ordered it this morning), but for a tenner I'm not complaining...

Just got ICS on my phone and tried the HDMI adapter. It seems that it has better quality with ICS. Don't know if it upscales the resolution but it seems clearer.
edit: So the output is 1080p but the upscaling isn't always the best. especially in games where the downloades files are for 800x480. In movies and photos it works great though.

Decided at that price it just wasn't worth saving a couple of quid to get one that might work but likely have worse build quality.
Also ordered a HDMI to DVI cable from there for a stupidly low price of £2..
What's the actual conclusion on the SGS2s HDMI out? I've seen scattered reports of some people getting full 1080p out, others can't get any higher than the native 480x800. Then there's the Video Player app designed specifically for HD playback.
I'm getting 1080 with ICS but only on Videoplayback.
Tried several apps to resize the density for "office use" - everytime i had to reflash...

Used to be 480p but in ICS works like a charm. BUT the app you are running has to be in HD or the phone upscales it a bit but not an actual HD quality. In movies it rocks.

To me MX player works perfect, no problems with the stock samsung player.
Anyway even while the phone upscales the picture if you are at a big screen from the right distance you do not see bad quality. It is actually more than good. In photo gallery the quality is great, same on videos with any player. Only problem? Games. cause the downloaded files are for 800x480 which is low resolution if plagged on a 1080p tv.

Video resolution is independent of the phones native screen resolution. If the phone is 480*800 and the video is 1920*1080, then provided the media player can output 1080, and the tv being outputted to can display 1080, then the video will be 1080.

What if say the video is 720p and your screen only goes up to 720p
My 22" monitor can't do 1080i so I appear to be stuck at 720x480
I got this one from Amazon for £6.99 and a HDMI cable for £2.25, I've only tried it with my TV (which can only do up to 1080i) and I get 1080i on it, no problems at all.
I haven't tried it with my monitor yet (I got it mainly to watch films on my TV without having to burn any disks/buy a NAS or anything) but I can try it to see the 1080p output if requested.
From what I understood it doesn't support 1080p

Netflix HD Support

Is there a way for Mi A2 Lite to be Widevine L1 certified? I realized that I can't stream HD content on netflix because of this.
Maybe u could use tv or monitor instead?
I don't really watch NF Series or Movies on phone.
But if there is demand, you could surely get also that support.
Yes i would watch them on tablet. But anything below 10inches screen, is really not watchable.
I almost can't watch NF Series or Movies 42inch tv, without proper sound system, (that has Dts support)
But i can do it almost on stereo sound. (tv speakers excluded)
Never thought it would come to this but nowadays I watch some shows on the phone while waiting for my kid and it's ok. Resolution does not bother me on such a small screen. Of course a good movie needs to be on TV (43" btw quite enough for me).
If your TV does not have NF app then I suggest buying a Chromecast or a certified Android box.
Unfortunately, the low resolution bothers me. Also, I subscribed for an HD plan and yet I cannot watch HD shows. I do have chromecast though but I rarely watch NF on TV.
I heard Xiaomi is starting the support for Widevine L1 on Pocophone. I hope they will consider Mi A2 Lite, and other devices as well.
It will never happen.
