"Unfortunately Bluetooth has stopped" repeatedly - can't access anything on phone
After a reboot I, getting this error message popping up repeatedly (literally every 2 seconds), so I am effectively locked out of the user interface. Several reboots haven't helped.
This happened immediately after I followed these instructions to enable write permissions on my external SD card:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=60417230&postcount=2
Essentially I edited /system/etc/permissions/platform.xml and rebooted.
Assuming that this has caused the problem, is there any way of restoring this file to its original state using ADB?

It looks like ADB may not be an option, as I can't boot into download mode. I've tried holding down Power+VolDown then plugging in the USB cable, but it will only boot into normal mode. I also tried using FastBoot to get into Recovery mode, but it reboots to a Android icon with ax exclamation mark in a red triangle. I have a horrible feeling this might be bricked.
Any ideas???
Edit: So I also did a factory reset, and the Bluetooth error message is still repeatedly popping up over the initial setup screen.
HELP!!!

OK so I finally managed to open Root Explorer and restored the original platform.xml file. Now the problem I have is that Bluetooth will not turn on. I enable it in settings, then after less than 10 seconds it disables itself. Reboot and Safe Mode don't help.
Has anyone else had this problem?

1.47 Root Problems

So I am attempting to use the newly discovered Flash exploit and I am running into a problem. When I first put the files on my sdcard and ran it, part1 ran successfully, then I started my browser and refreshed, then I rebooted the phone. I kept running the command to run part2 however when it finally got to the point where the device would respond to adb, it simply said permission denied. Now I am unable to run any of the parts or do anything really. I have done the "Clear Storage" option in the volume down menu on bootup and the Clear Data in the Privacy setting and then tried again to no avail...my phone simply refuses to run the scripts. I've also tried to format my SD card both through my computer and through the phone.
Any ideas?

-Taco
I would try to do a factory reset (menu->settings->privacy?->factory reset?... i dunno if this is right but its somewhere in there).
First time it boots up, just skip through all of the starting config stuff, enable USB debugging, set to charge only, and connect to adb, run your 'adb shell' then 'sh /sdcard/part1'
you should probably see two lines pop up, one says to reboot your phone and run again, the other says to open up the internet app and go to the bit.ly/ap0dRn, REBOOT your phone.
Rerun adb and part 1, if its successful and tells you to reboot then reboot using adb reboot.
What I did (and it took me 3 or 4 factory resets to get this to work), was to leave my phone plugged into the PC and when it comes up to the white HTC boot logo, it will may take a few seconds, but as soon you hear the windows sound saying the phone connect (BA DUN) hit enter on your 'adb shell /data/local/part2' command. If it says not found, just keep hitting up, enter till it does. I think it needs to be done while the white boot screen is still up. If it doesn't, then in my experience with it, I had to do a factory wipe and start over.
You should see the output when its done saying you have rw-rw-rw- root blah blah and it would always kick me out of adb. I never got the su's # prompt. But I would go in and do the cat stuff like it says and reboot, flash the PC36IMG.zip file and it would be downgraded for me to do toast's part 2.
I know it was an essay, but hopefully that works for you.

[Q] DHD crashed and won't go pass the Bootscreen/ can't navigate it either

Hallo,
just now I was trying to open an app on my DHD but it kept force closing so I decided to Normaly restart it. When I did that it went to the Welcome Logo then got stuck and kept on turning on and Off.
Then I removed the battery and tried again. This time the Bootscreen appeared (I was glad since I could recover a backup version of the RAM) but to my amazement I couldn't navigate through the options. Even the power button didn't work. I tried several times but with the same results.
I was wondering is there a way to restore my mobile from my laptop (USB Debugging?) now after I reached this state?!
How could I solve this?
Any help would be appreciated
UPDATE: I noticed before the Bootscreen loads, there appears some messages quickly before they disappear. I kept on turning my phone on and off to see what they said eventually I came out with this
P98DIAG.ZIP

Can you navigate any menus? If you can't you probably have a volume key hardware issue. If you can, i would just put a p98diag.zip on the root and reflash (use the rooted one).
Sounds like you are booting into bootloader. You need recovery. Pull the battery, then reinsert and hold volume down + hit power. If that doesn't work if you have adb set up on computer, plug it in to computer and use adb reboot recovery.

I guess that you have a PD98IMG.zip on sd card.
Remove it or everytime you reboot in bootloader it will ask you to update in a never ending story. Probably this is why all other commands are not working except reboot.
Then reboot bootloader and go to recovery.
No I can't navigate (the weird thing is the power button also dosen't respond) it's like it freezes as soon as it turns on... Could you give me the PD98IMG.zip in a separate link?
I tried reinst the battery while holding the volume + but it didn't work. It vibrated 4 times while the charge light turned green but that was it. It stayed green and the screen was off...
I've always had the volume keys issue even before it went crazy (they do not always respond to my press) but I just installed 3rd party apps as a workaround.
I couldn't find the p98diag.zip anywhere on the SD card (could you give me the path for it?)
I will try to reboot it through my laptop but could someone give me the commands I should write? I'm not that experienced in that field.
Btw I left it for a while before I turned it on again, it went into Safe Mode (no apps no nothing) then I turned it off and after several tries it finally turned on in the normal mode and was almost stable until I restarted it and it went to point 0 again and now I'm stuck with the bootscreen :S
Thanks for your help
Do you have adb set up on your computer? If so then connect phone to laptop. Open command prompt type "adb remount" then "adb reboot recovery"

while looking through the files I used to root my phone when I bought it I found the p98diag.zip. I copied it to my SD Card and wanted to install it. It found it but then it said
Parsing...[SD ZIP]
[1] BOOTLOADER
[2] BOOT
....
but it's been like that for 2 hours now. I tried reinst the battery and pluging in the mobile to my laptop but it didn't recognize it. (I tried the adb and it gave me Device not found" error!
Is it normal for the phone to take long to parse the zip file? what should I do now?

You shouldn't have installed pd98diag. I would suggest either trying to run the ruu to get back to stock, or find the stock rom in pd98img.zip form and place on root of sdcard. Then reroot and start over.
Edit: if you find the stock rooted in pd98img.zip form that should work too and you won't have to reroot.
Edit 2: be sure to remove the pd98diag.zip from your sd card.

Good advice! I still have all the files I used to root (even the RUU)
And you're right I shouldn't have flashed the old pd98img because now my laptop can't recognize my mobile and I can't debug it from the command line (it says Device not found)
Can I still be able to root the img without using my phone? I used this guide to root my phone (http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/how-to-downgrade-htc-desire-hd-to-root-it-after-ota-update/)
Where can I find the rooted img? and will it be possible for me to upload it here so that someone could root it for me on his device and give it to me rooted?
To boot into recovery
Hold down volume - button (not +) while pressing power button.
Let go of power button but continue pressing down on volume -.
Hey presto ... recovery.
It's a very easy mistake to make, I did it myself a few times when I first got into rooting and flashing ROM's.
lol!
no mate I wish it was like that.

[Q] Possible bricked phone after root attempt

Hi guys,
After trying to root my phone by using the rollback to 2.1 method (mt3srooter and superoneclick), my phone is stuck.
To elaborate, my phone is rolled back to 2.1 but I cannot for the life of me get it back to the 2.2.1 stock rom. I tried to do a factory reset and soft reset it but it either
1. Starts up showing an exclamation point inside of a triangle in front of a phone, after pressing power and the volume up button, I clear the cache, factory reset it and initiate system reboot which is when the phone does start up but vibrates 5 times while lighting up the notification light.
or 2. Boots regularly to 2.1 but is unstable and shuts off occasionally vibrating 5 times again
During the rooting process in mt3srooter I didn't turn on the wi-fi (due to the fact that I did not transfer the zip files beforehand and panicked) as instructed which I think caused the problem.
I already flashed esprimg but it's the same.
Also, my phone does not recognize that there is an SD card inside (I used two different microSD cards with no avail and formatted them). It does not register on my computer as a device it's just labled as "Unkown device" and the driver software fails to install.
Is there any way to get my phone back to the way it was?
Any help is appreciated!
Edit: The phone has no warranty, I bought it from a 3rd party unlocked.

[Q] gnex boot loop!

hey everyone! new to the forum. needed help bad.
i have been running CM 10.2.0 for awhile now, pretty much since it was released without any issues. yesterday for whatever reason while surfing the net my phone restarted. now it keeps restarting every 15-20 secs. my main concern at this point is saving my photos before i reset my phone and start from scratch. any ideas as to how to back up photos?
some notes on my rebooting condition.:
phone keeps rebooting even when booted up in safe mode.
-in safe mode i do have more time before it reboots itself
phone does not reboot itself when in bootloader mode or recovery mode
i tried to back up to sdcard while in recovery mode but it fails when it tries to back up data. i also tried using nexus root toolkit but to no avail.
any help would be much appreciated. feels weird to not have a phone.lol. thanks in advance

Hate when a rom just goes bad for some reason.. Could you supply the error messages you get when your backup fails? I'm guessing it might have to do with file names having weird symbols. Also you might want to backup different folders of your sdcard at a time to avoid failure; i.e., "adb pull /sdcard/Download <some_directory_on_computer>".

thanks for the reply. system backup finishes then it goes to back up data. after while it says that there's an error making backup image of /data
is it possible to just to use command prompt to just pull my pictures? would it just be adb pull /sdcard/dcim <some directory>?
also for some reason i am unable to communicate with my phone using adb prompts. yesterday i typed in adb devices and my phones serial number would come up as connected. today under "list of devices" its just blank....not sure what to do.
UPDATE: i was able to get my pictures off of my phone. i launched CMD through the nexus toolkit and it seemed to detect my phone.
i flashed my phone back to stock using the toolkit. for some reason after everything was said and done my phone wasnt actually set back to stock. my phone still has all my apps etc. it still restarts every few seconds.
i tried a couple force flashes using the toolkit again but still same phone. nothing has changed or been fixed. not really sure what my next plan of attack should be. any guidance is very much appreciated.

Glad to hear you got your pictures off. As far as wiping your phone. If you got everything off your sdcard that you want, you can do a fastboot wipe.
-press volume up + volume down + power to get to fastboot mode
-connect the phone to your computer and enter in the command window "fastboot devices" to see if it's connected
-enter "fastboot -w" to do a full erasure of the phone's /data partition
Then use nexus toolkit, recovery, or fastboot to flash a new rom from there. This has saved me in the past in a similar situation. Definitely make sure you have everything off your sdcard you want to keep before trying this though.

thanks so much for the help so far. unfortunately everything you have told me so far has not worked.lol. i followed the steps like u said but the phone just stays on the "google" screen after i install a stock rom. left for 2.5 hours in hopes of it doing its thing.lol. had to pull battery and start it up. nothing changed, phone still restarts i also tried using toolkit to flash stock + unroot (both in bricked mode and normal mode), flashed zip stock images and installing in recovery mode. i also used CMD to push stock images to my phone and installing but still nothing.
i also followed the instructions extactly on this forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=34552123&postcount=1
all of the steps successfully completed but after a reboot my phone was left unchanged.
i may have screwed up my description of the problem earlier. the phone restarts after my phone stop responding/freezes. i also find that there almost always is a program that stops working. i find handcent sms is having the most errors. tried to uninstall but phone freezes. tried in fastboot/adb but nothing happens.
thanks again for the help so far.

[Q] how to access storage when phone is locked out?

I have not been able to access my Zenfone 3 Deluxe after getting "System UI has stopped" message on boot - probably due to an app update that took place yesteday.
Before I reset my phone I want to retrieve photos I took over the past week, but when I plug the phone to my computer, it can't read the internal storage and because I don't have access to the interface, I cannot change the setting from USB Charge mode to MTP mode.
How do I access the internal storage at this point?

Boot the phone up into safe mode and you should be able to fix the issue without having to do a factory reset. Just power off the phone and power it back on. When the Asus logo pops up, hold both Volume Down and Volume Up at the same time until the phone is booted. That should get you in as it loads nothing on boot except for the bar essentials for the phone to run.
Sadly, the "System UI" error message also pops up under safe mode, hindering any operation.

Have you tried possibly copying the files over through ADB? In principle, that should work, but don't quote me on it.

No. Not yet. ADB is not my forte so I am trying to avoid it as a last resort (before factory reset).
