First, sorry for my bad English.
Everyone using ZF2 knows about what I'm talking about here: if you look at the battery graph in the settings, Android OS is probably responsible for most of the battery usage. :silly:
At first I was horrified about that, but then I realized something was off, something that I notice everyone is ignoring: Android OS drain is too high. I mean for me it's always 5 to 8 times higher than the second that is the Screen. The reality is that I can still have 4 to 4.30 hours of screen-on time, 3% drain for 7 hours of stand-by at night. So just think about it logically, what if we can make the Android OS work "normally", which is that Screen will be on top of the list and Android OS somewhere below, then how long my screen on time will be? You know what I mean? We are getting rid of a drain that is 5 times higher than Screen on the list! Does it mean our Screen on time will now be 20 hours???
So, I came to a conclusion that this issue may be in fact an error in the data. Maybe nothing was wrong but the Zenfone 2 team messed up the calculation for the battery usage and ended up showing a ridiculous result. what do you think about this?
3% overnight ? my phone get 1% ^^

wow that's crazy, how is that possible for you do you think?
I'm using stock, disable most of the bloatwares but I'm keeping all Asus important ones such as power saver (I always set it normal however), start manager (disable all except OTTs and sms ... you know why).
Does that mean I'm partly right? If Android OS truely eats up so much battery power, how can we achieve such low drain during stand-by time? It's not logical :silly:

thanks for the link. However I don't want to root my phone, I just bought it a few weeks ago and I will keep it intact until I get Marshmallow, I used to be addicted to Rom Flashing and it nearly killed me haha. I can use the lists for reference, anyway.
Yes my phone is 551ML 4GB ram, probably that's why I have higher drain when stand-by. Because I have lots of experience with Rom modding I believe I'm not missing anything with my current settings.
Ps: your English is fine, don't worry :fingers-crossed: judging at your username I bet one penny that you're from the same country as me
how many times its been said..zenfone 2 stand by time is superb ...its when its use the drainage is fast..why fast because of incompatibility of zenfone 2 screen( cheap screen ?) and intels hardward... ...so no matter how you adjust it will never be a 2 days single charged phone. anyway ive had a nice experience with my zenfone 2 ..gave it to my brother and bought nexus 6...wanted to have 6 inch phone anyway....

i think so. bạn ở đâu ?? mình hcm kakaka
The main responsable in battery drains is usually not Android OS, but Google Play Services that screws everything
This issue has already been discussed to death all over the place in different forums. There are many reasons why the battery life is not good on ZF2 some of which are what you pointed out. The main problem is with 5.0 itself, this was and is a known problem, no amount of "tweaking" is going to fix a problem with the OS itself. This is why many people wanted the 5.1 update to no avail from Asus. Did it fix all the problems? No, it did not but it did stop a lot of the battery drain.

I agree that 5.0 is not optimized and it's not the best, but people are talking like Android OS is a crimminal, I think that Android OS is just taking a bit of battery, but definitely not 5 times higer than the screen as explained above like instead of 5% of battery it is consuming 10%, it's not good, but not a disaster either :silly:

it might be, I used to greenify Google Play Services, but on some phone it will lead to a lot of force closes. Supposed it's the cause, it also can't be 5 times higher then the screen, or else our phone won't be able to maintain >4 hours of SOT, isn't it? :silly:
No, 5.0 is and was a disaster. It had so many bugs it should have never been released
That is for sure...

Hi Guys,
I am really new to this forum and I deeply apologise if this thread or subject matter has been opened numerous times.
However, I am just somewhat really puzzled as to how amazing the spec this phone is. I just loving it apart from two things. The battery could be better but hey with all that juice and cpu it needs to run that beast of a screen its understandable. However, the ultimate thing that bugs me is how it gets incredibly laggy at times when hoping from an app back into the home screen.. Especially in games or Facebook.. Has anyone experienced this issue?
I have rooted my LG g3 too and I have also turned the developer options on in which I have decreased the transition times from the default settings to off or 0.5 for few of the minimise options..
I just hoping anyone can help or have ideas?
Thanks so much
By no means am I trying to be rude, but if you search around a bit, you will see that this is apparently an issue just about everyone has.

There are 2 theories. 1 is that the software isn't optimized and is causing lag. 2. It takes more resources to draw the QHD display, therefore the phones CPU and GPU is having to work harder than an HD display and this is causing lag.

I couldnt agree more in regards to the QHD screen. I just hope that can flash Stock Android on to the device or just install something that is different.
Apparently I heard there was rumours that the screen could be decreased to 1080p?
Instead of crying, just got to the hidden menu and enable 60fps in the dynamic lcd refresh menu.

People here get mad if you don't use the search efficiently. It's actually one of the forum rules.
If people do get mad, realise that they've probably seen this question 2343636 times and you maybe could have found it. Just move on.

That's the stupidest thing I've heard. I own a Nexus 10, a two year old tablet with the same resolution as our G3. It has a dual core processor, running 1,7Ghz. And guess what, it is smooth as hell. Even smoother than my G3, like a lot. And I don't like it... But once the bootloader gets unlocked we could probably see the G3 running flawlessly with Android L.

I am sorry to disappoint but some people are not as fortunate to have the intelligence that other have and as life has evolved, so will my knowledge as time goes by in having my phone...
I have been a LG G3 user for month and 2 weeks so far. First android phone. From an avid iPhone 4 user since it came out...
I'd greatly appreciate if people could respect me and help me rather than slate me for my 'noob' questions...
Other than that thanks to everyone who has shared light with me and who can continue to provide amazing advice.
After boundless and endless search, i have after hours of tedious trail and error managed to flash the leaked firmware 10j that i see floating about on the forum on my D855 and noticed a slight decrease in lag.. I have also changed the runtime from Dalvik to ART.. Which made a slight increase in speeds...
Aside from that can anyone please give extra tips and personal tweaks they done to boost there performance?
Thank you ever so much!:good:

First I'd like to apologize for all the rude people around here. Sorry buddy.
Second there are many things you can do to make your phone faster and lag free.
I copied this from the post here to make it easier for you.
Open the dial pad, then type the following number, choose one code that matches with your device model:
- 3845#*855# (Intl)
- 3845#*851# (TMo)
- 3845#*850# (AT&T)
- 5689#*980# (Sprint)A hidden menu will be showing up, scroll down till you find “High Temperature Property”.Tap it, then*turn it ON.
Now find thermal daemon mitigation and turn it on either. switch off your phone, and wait for about 15 seconds.Next,*turn it on*again, when you see screen lock, wait at least 35 seconds.Enjoy your lag-free LG G3.
Third, I advice you to change the launcher. I suggest nova since it's full of customization and really light.
Here : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teslacoilsw.launcher
Install it play around with for a while. It's easy to customize it the way you like.
Enjoy your phone buddy...

Thanks ever so much for your amazing support and suggestions.
I have managed to do the sugggested list that you mentioned. I just realised a new issue with my phone that I really am surprised about now. I charge my phone at 100% and within 2 hours I have lost a good 30% of my battery within a space of 2 hours.. By having the phone on just locked.. All recent apps closed. Its a strange issue. I dont know why all of a sudden.. I can see in the battery menu that andriod os and android system are taken up about 47% and the display taking 35%...
Im sorry to branch from one issue to another but I dont really know what to do. And I am really worried in doing factory reset and losing my data. I am having to charge my phone in space of 2 times in a day.. doesnt make sense.
Thanks so much

Can you post a screen shot of your battery stats so we can see what's using the most battery? It could be a rogue process killing the battery.
There is probably some app eating your battery. Try to post a screenshot of you battery stats. To do so press power button and volume down at the same time and hold them for a second.
Any way, Apart from the battery issue, how's the smoothness?
As you can see in mine I'm off the battery for 3 hours. Haven't used the phone e so far since I'm home playing battlefield 4. Still at 100 %.
At first the battery drains a lot faster when in a new rom, the it settles.
But in your case it is draining way to fast.
Restart your phone, give it a full charge and let it rest for an hour. Let us know how it goes.
Thanks guys for your response, I am really shocked as to why my battery is just eating up soooo fast like that... You can see from the graph in the screenshot that it just plummets down sooo fast within hours..My screen brightness is set at 50% without no auto brightness and I don't really have much apps running.. Im really bemused as to whats going on?
I removed the battery for a while and I also restarted my phone.. This is a MASSIVE improvement because the Android OS and Android System was both taken up a good 40% and screen 30%.. but even with the stats shown I'm still reducing significant amount of battery..

It seems to me that your battery is settling down. Guy it a 3 or 4 full cicles and let me know it has stabilized.
---------- Post added at 05:44 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:42 PM ----------
I'm Using it for a while know. Mine is doing really good.
the kernel is bugged and also since its on 5.0 lollipop
What strikes me odd is that something else didn't drag it down. Then I see the stats are about apps only, which don't take into account cell standby or screen on time.
The key thing to look at is that your phone has been running for 5.5 hours there from full charge, and it only went down 7%. That means if you keep it up, you could run it for over 3 days without needing to recharge. Nothing wrong with that (in the new world order). That's what my old phone could do (sometimes 4 days), and it had a better mAh to screen size ratio than his device (2460mAh : 4" vs 3000mAh : 5.5"). I have yet to get those kinds of battery stats with this one (down to 70% by the day is done vs 80% with the other one).
Yeah. It's unthinkable that a company like Asus can't solve this problem fast enough. Maybe they didn't get the permission to put 5.1 on their phones yet

Yeah, let's see. Meanwhile we spend our battery cycles like ****
I blame Google. They should never have released the buggy mess that is 5.0. Sometimes companies have no choice what to out on the phones....I'm sure Asus had this phone in the development pipeline with 5.0 as the target well before all the bugs of 5.0 were revealed. And the way Android relies on nearly full reimage for major updates is idiotic, and also Google's fault. 5.1.1 is essentially a different OS than 5.0

the funny thing is my standby time is completely fine its when im using the phone that it drains fast I have amplify, greenify, powernap running and it still drains also did all thats possible to save as much battery as possible.
I also installed the Debloated Rom by Harfainx I know for sure that its lollipop 5.0 thats cause this problem cause every time I check the battery stats in settings Android OS is at 40-60%...... thats just ridiculous
The sooner we get 5.1.1 the better! Are you listening Asus?
They are shameless at the moment
So, title self explain. I have G3 and want to ask to someone who made the upgrade from G3 to G4. Is the battery about the same as G3 or is better?

Don't feed the troll :good:
i was planning to buy the G4, so i looked at some reviews. GSMArena said that the battery life on the G4 is a downgrade from the G3.
The Endurance rating worked out to 54 hours, 9 hours less than the G3. The issue was with the high standby power draw, which puts a strain on the battery even when you're not using the phone. The other disappointment was the talk time, which couldn't reach 17 hours - an 8 hour drop from the G3.
We reran the tests several times and kept getting the same results.
Anyway, the web browsing time was pretty good - nothing spectacular, but good. It also marks the only improvement since the G3 as the video playback is below average for the flagship class.

ok. where does it make a direct comparison to the G3. the video is kind of hard to follow. Unless he has both phones in the same video and do a same battery test, you can't really compare the g4 to g3 with this video. the OP just has to decide which source he deems more reliable.

yes because this is a difficult subject so keep a note when he talks of the sot's under different conditions.
Had to watch it a couple of times but i got it in the end. See the comments too.
What is your expectation of sot/runtime ? How much do you get with your curent device ? what is your current device.
There is no difference between G3 and G4 for battery life max i can get 4 and half hours for battery life and minimum only almost 3 hours SOT. Maybe if next LG device is like this battery life i need to change to another brand
Yeah my experience in two days....Touchscreen issues untill i updated to V10C which fixes the touchscreen issue but decreases battery life to the extent where u can literally notice it drop before your eyes. The power saving used to work fine before v10c now even tho i turn it on immediately it wont kick in untill battery reaches 15% ( u will know when its on because the statusbar will change its color to red)...... And yes the back buttons are loose and feel wobbly. There is a pink shade in my front camera when there is sunlight in the background....ummm what else......i am damn sure even the cheap chinese phones coming out will be better than this piece of junk. I shud never have bought it

many times its because people are interested in some other phone that came out after.
Dont expect anything crash hot from the battery performance. It is nothing like what i expected. If you want good battery life go with samsung s6 or even better the sony xperia phones. Xperia has best battery life. So G4 wont do you any good with battery life

3h sot, lots of complaining, 4h+Sot less complaining or it goes silent. Seen this a few times now. That is what surprised me. Until you realise that people find 8h run time too short but once it gets into 12-14h+ its ok. Its the standby time that is more important.

I currently have the nexus 4 and i think the most screen on-time i can get before my phone dies is 3 hours, but usually it's in the low to mid 2 hour range before i have to run to the charger. But the phone never last more than like 12 hour of usage (or a 8 hour workshift+ work traffic) as i constantly surf the web, music, and always checking my phone.
I want something like xperia z3 compact or note 4 battery life, but those phones have some things i don't really like. With the G4, i do plan on buying those high capacity battery (like mugen, hyperion, etc..) if the phone does fall below my expectation.

Mostly wifi ? or is there also same amount of data ? how strong or not that cell data signal is and for how long you are on it will take a toll with any phone.

How bright do you like your screen. if you can manage with less brightness ie 30-50% you can add an hour of sot.
for reference, 3-4h SOT on data and 4-5h sot on wifi only with 65-70 brightness. mixed use means somewhere in between, 4h sot. high brightness means low to mid 3h, less brightness 4-5h.
sot/run times you can expect 3h /9h, 4h/12h, 5h/14+h is normal with stock.
Are these figures you can live with ? xperias & note 4 will give you an extra hour sot on top. that extra hour means 2-4h longer run time.
you dont need to carry those bulky batteries unless your phone absolutely needs to be on, just swap the battery out in a couple of minutes.. Not hot swap, have to power down.
How important is bootloader unlock and roms for you ? some people are forced to stick with original and forego firmware updates to preserve bootloader unlock. this means if any improvements are made in subsequent updates they can't use them and are stuck with whatever bugs are there in the older firmware. Stuck with bugs and waiting for roms can be frustrating.
For some one used to nexus 4 being able to flash anything and everything, G4 might seem a bit boring for you, Nexus 5x ? you dont care for replaceable battery or sd card. just get the biggest onboard memory possible

Yep all wifi, don't have a data plan . wifi signal varies to maximum signal to no signal at all lol. But i do turn on airplane mode when i'm on the train for example. My brightness is set to adaptive brightnes on @ 50%ish
I'm actually avoiding the nexus line in the future lol since i really want sd card slot and removable battery (and good/excellent battery life), usb OTG (particularly usb audio out), and a device that can officially unlock bootloader like the g4 H815. and to be honest, stock android ui is sometimes boring and it never has features u see on like xperia, htc, or samsung devices. And I can just do all my flashing needs on my Nexus 4 when the habit kicks in lol. Overall, on my next phone, i just want options and upgrade/replacement possibility

Then you can expect a 4-5h sot/12-14h run time with normal use. Good enough ?
web browsing won't eat up much battery, its push notifications and constant syncs over weak signal that do it faster.
IMO the g3 was garbage...i had 2 that had emmc failures and all 3 i had overheating issues...battery sucked...only pro was there was a good bit of development...i love my g4...only device i miss over my g4 is my g2...battery life is great with minimal tweaks and greenify...my last run was 5 h 2m sot and 47.5 standby...h81110n
The question is very tongue-in-cheek. I really love this phone, but the battery life is nothing like a Moto E that my kids use as a WiFi house phone.
The Moto E will sit mostly idle for an entire week, WiFi on the whole time, an hour and a half-ish of SOT, and battery will be 15%. After 7 days.
My ZF2 can only sit idle/wifi for about 2 days even though its battery is ~1000mah larger. My old LG G2 could do 5 or 6 days.
I've experimented with stock and Cm13 with similar results. I'm not looking for 8 hours SOT, I want to take my phone camping and know I can get calls or make calls when necessary. (Odds are, I'll hijack my kids' phone for the trip - but I shouldn't have to do that!)
I guess I'm wondering if this kind of idle drain is common with ZF2? Is it the Intel SOC? Is it screen/touch drivers? Something just seems real strange...
I wonder the same. My Zf2 uses more juice idling on wifi overnight than my iphone 5 uses idling for a week.
somesay because the processor, Intel SoC(bad).
somesay because asus poorly customise the phone.
somesay because it had poor screen.
the answer is really uknown....
It's because of cache memory getting filled up after a longtime use or frequent rom update. always wipe cache atleast once in a month or after every flash.
Steps: (if u are still in zenfone stock firmware with OTA updates)
1. Turn off you Zenfone 2
2. Press and hold Power button + Volume Up together for few seconds.
3. When the phone is vibrating, release the Power button. You will see Normal boot and Recovery boot options to select.
4. You can select Normal boot or Recovery boot by pressing Volume up/down button. To enter Recovery mode choose Recovery boot.
5. You will see sleeping android robot. Press Power button + Volume Up and release the buttons. You are now in Recovery mode.
6. If the 5th option does not work for you, press and hold Power button, then (while holding power button) quickly press Volume Up and release and then release power button.
Use vol up/down to navigate to wipe cache and select using power button. Wait for 8 - 10 minutes until it is complete.
7. Now, to exist from recovery mode, just select reboot option or press and hold the power button for a few seconds to force it to reboot.
This really works and gives you the Battery life as it was on its new phone.
Hit THANKS if this has helped you.
Seems like pretty much every android phone and tablet ive used.
The longer you own it the worse the standby drain gets...and then the manufacturer gets blamed, software "bloat" gets blamed, everything gets blamed except the one thing that should be blamed...google's services running in the background chewing up battery but giving under "play services". All the nexus devices i've owned have been no different.

Thanks for that hint. I'm new to ZF2 doesn't know till now how to clear cache from recovery caused by the update fail in recovery.
It maybe better to root stock rom just for amplified and grenify with xposed, kept alot more power on my other devices.
I think the problem lies in android lollipop and x86 architecture ..... Arm architecture is still the best (maybe, kyro will be better)
Once we get marshmallow the idle battery drain shall be gone , so shall be the notifications too!!!
Its just that you cannot get moto e like battery but still there are one plus users with custom kernels getting 6+ hour sot and 3 day idle longevity
So there shall be hope for someone to make a new kernel especially for x86
Btw, use echoerom just google "echoe rom zenfone 2" thats a asus stock based rom so you wont miss zen ui too, and has got good performance and battery for some reasons.
Don't know what you're doing wrong but my son's has been on standby for almost 5 days with 25% remaining.
I would blame 5.0, I haven't tested custom roms like CM, but let's hope it goes away in 6.0. My battery standby looses about 10-15% in 8 hours on standby. I use Superzen and I'm on. 139
I don´t know what I´m doing wrong ... the battery life on my zf if good to excelent.
If most phones could be tested out for one month of before buying, most of them wouldn't be bought. this ZF2 has many issues that they still haven't fixed with OTA's. I'll never own another one, I'll go back to Samsung on my next one.

This. I dont know why so many people complain about Zenfone 2's battery life. I am a very detailed use, I checked the battery percent every night before going to bed, and based on my data, my phone will stay idle for 9.7 days before it's gone flat

To be honest, I would consider it a big failure if you spend 15% for 8 hours of stand by, especially you're rooted, which means you should have be capable of doing much more than I do...

Mind posting a screen shot of your battery screen? Or let me know what the top 3 drains are on his phone. It may give me a clue about where the drain is coming from.

There is something fishy about this phone. Not all zenfones have good battery life. Some ZF2 has very good battery life, some ZF2 has battery drain like hell. Since the os and the firmware is same, I have doubt that every zenfone 2 has same quality battery (or does every phone has 3000mAh battery actually?)

Well this is cute, why don't you do a little Google searching on ZENFONE 2 issues before opening your hole? and not to mention the fact that their support is really lacking much like your knowledge!!
So, i was on V3.15
I got update notification of V3.18 (3.7gb?)
I clicked.
My phone battery was behaving normal, calibrated and charge current speed 5200mAh.
I upgraded to V3.18 and booom, charge current shows always half of the value.
But it charges still 5200mAh but device thinks the input current is 2500-2600mAh.
My phone is EU variant. 16/256 Ghost Edition.
I downgraded to V3.15 (yes i lost data) and problem solved. I upgraded again to V3.18 and hello, problem is back!
This causes battery to be miscalibrated.
For over a week using this update and it still persists, it did not settle down.
So now when my battery hits 18% and i charge and it hits 56%, then its not 56% but in fact, its ~80%.
Charging while phone is fully shutdown is same too. It seems like the kernel is giving false info to device. So when phone system reads 2600mAh it moves percentage by that. So when this happens it thinks it charges alow and raises percentage slow accordingly too but in fact it still charges full speed.
Anyone else experiencing this issue? Using original cable and charge adapter.
Been sending video recordings/screenshots and 8min long of video of me talking/shutting down system/rebooting but the customer service denies to admit they messed up V3.18 charging parameters. They refuse.
So tell me. Who else is experiencing this issue?
It only happens on newest OS update (NX669S_EUCommon_V3.18).
So please, if you experience same issue, write it down here and contact customer service and give them link to this thread.
Raise awareness. I fresh installed V3.18 and it still happens! Wiped data, still happens!
Not normal!
Been using this update over a week with no luck.
Greetings, I am in the exact same situation like you with the latest EU update. Just created my account to post here, since I was browsing around the web searching for eventual fix for this issue. Sadly, I am unable to downgrade to the previous version and this is driving me crazy.
Can you suggest me a way to downgrade? (there is no factory reset option, nor wiping partition in boot mode works)

You cant downgrade, if you do you will lose all data on phone with downgraded version.
The customer support i exchanged 15emails or so and they simply dont admit its their mistake. They just fool with me.
My belief is they intentionally try to ruin our battery to go for the new redmagic 7 device.
They even "overcharge" our phone. My phone alerted me at 74% (overvoltage battery charge stops). Voltage on battery raised up to 4.5voltage because battery charges still fast at 95-99% even tho phone thinks its at 74%.
But no, this Nubia company denies to admit their mistake with my proofs and tests.
Their technical team doesnt even check.
I mean they just need to put this update in their device and then charge from ~20% to 100% and they will see it.
We need more people gathering here up and to make our voice be heard. Come on guys everyone please stand up!

I also noticed, the cpu 4 main cores get stuck at 100% sometimes (for 20min or 1-2hours) causing huge heat build-up and extra high battery usage.
Sometimes it fixes itself and then quickly comes again stuck at 100%.
Only way to fix it is by rebooting phone.
Really sucks. When this happens, and you charge phone and play with charge separation, the phone goes very high temperature.
This is gaming phone? With problems?
Their kernel is bad. Their developers just DONT put effort. they cant release a simple normal clean kernel... I swear, if they dont fix these issues i will for sure go back to OnePlus as my next device, i had no such issue....

Sometimes dont u notice battery heats alot way more than before while doing same thing?
At times its 37c and then at times hits 40c.
Fun thing is when i plug charger it suddenly shows my battery is fallin from 39c to 35c.

We have to wait.
Im regularly checking manually update through the app.
I noticed something.
Sometimes i see CPU is very aggresively piking to 100% the first 0-3 cores (4 cores).
Its the small cores maxing to 100% frequency very often.
But at other times it doesnt and i noticed. When it doesnt spike to 100% alot, the phone is battery friendly and doesnt heat alot even during charge, but at random moment this gets triggered and cpu becomes super aggresive for NO REASON!
This is SUPER frustrating!
Very poorly optimized phone, i will definitely not buy a RedMagic phone ever again.
My next device simply OnePlus back.
Im VERY disappointed in RedMagic... Gaming phone? Really?
Nice joke.

The video fixes the stuck cpu parameters 80% of time.
It seems like an issue lying down in the phone OS.
RedMagic Gaming phone? Hah! CONSUMER NEEDS TO POINT THESE BASIC ISSUES? What is this
Even a 200$ phone doesnt have such issues.
The video is proof of the issue being unnecesarily running 4 cores at full peak and load.
Causing unnecesary heat buildup and battery drain.
