I currently have an AT&T unlocked with TWRP installed. I am trying to get Cyangen 12.1 installed, but I believe I need to get android 5.1.1 installed first(currently running 5.0.2). I can't get any HTC installs to work, probably because of root or because of the bootloader. Any suggestions to get from 5.0.2 all the way to cyanogen mod 12.1? Thanks all!

you'll need to relock the bootloader and flash the RUU found here to update your phone
http://www.htc.com/us/support/htc-one-m9-att/news/
after flashing the ruu, you'll have to unlock the bootloader and flash TWRP again.
be aware theirs a setting in Developer Options to allow the bootloader to be unlocked again
Thanks, relocking bootloader fixedit!
I am trying to get the bootloader unlocked again, but I seem to be having trouble. Any suggestions? :-\
So I got that to work! thanks!

I donloaded Sunshines and ran it on my phone. I thought after I did that (it said successful then rebooted) I would be ready to go.
Nope.
Attempted to install and run SuperSU but it says it cannot install binaries, it can't fix it, and that I need to re-root.
try rootcheckers, all still say nothing.
Can someone help me out here?
I'm running an HTC M7 on Verizon, 4.4.3, HTC Sense 6.0
This stuff used to be so easy....lol

Sunshine is pretty much bulletproof now.
You could remove SuperSU, then do a factory reset of the phone.
Then enable Developer Options, download the newest version of Sunshine,
log into your wifi connection, and run it again. It will root the phone early in the process without
your installing SuperSU. Good luck!

It is my understanding that sunshine unlocks your boot loader and gives you s-off, not root.
once you are boot loader unlocked and s-off you can use twrp to install an already rooted rom.

I did that. That was what my prices was when I did it the very first time. I only bought it a week ago. That's why I posted. I'm falling on the other side of pretty much bulletproof, apparently.
umm, whoa, so....

So the only way to root a Verizon HTC m7 on 4.4.3 is to wipe it and install a custom Rom (after unlocking the bootloader and achieving with sunshine)?
hey....
I don't know if it means anything or not, but after every install of sunshine, the app disappears from the app drawer after rebooting (caused by sunshine).
So I'm just asking....

What I did was use sunshine to s off and unlock boot loader , reboot... After reboot, use towelroot v3 to temp root. (NOTE : towel root won't work if u just click the root button right off the bat. On our phones, u have to tap the intro msg 3 times and a string of numbers will appear. I change the last number which is 0 to a 1 , THEN u click the root button and Presto! ,ur temp rooted) THEN PROCEED to download flashify from play store, and use it to flash twrp, and then from there u can flash supersu... Works like a charm

I used sunshine and then used towelroot to root. I had to install towelroot via adb. You could give that a try. Installing a custom rom will work 100%.
i used sunshine V2 a few months back and if i remeber right it reboots once and then you pay and it unlocks. Once it finished its thing i did not use towelroot or anything. I simply fasboot openrecovery-twrp-2.7.1.1-m7wlv with adb and once the phone restarted I had root. It even installed supersu on its own as i never installed it but it ended up on my phone

I am confused.
1: you ran sunshine
2: you paid the 25.00 and it unlocked your boot loader and gave you s-off
3: you fasboot openrecovery-twrp-2.7.1.1-m7wlv with adb
Number 3 is where I am confused. Once sunshine was done, you flashed twrp and your phone rebooted with root and supersu installed???
I recently ran sunshine on a phone running the latest ota from verizon. It unlocked the bootloader and gave me s-off. It did not root my phone. I used towelroot to gain root without having to flash any recovery software.
Forgive me, but I am trying to understand how after sunshine, flashing twrp gave you root and installed supersu? Did you install a custom rom? Once you you run sunshine successfully, you can flash twrp and install a rooted rom.
The OP was about rooting after sunshine without having to wipe out his current setup and gain root. If I am wrong about this, please call me out. I am going on my recent experience.

Correct, Also when I flashed twrp I do not remember losing any of my current settings on phone. It only gave me the recovery and root w/ supersu like I said. If you would like I will upload the version of twrp I referred to in my post. I would give a link to where I got it but I really do not remember. When I initially unlocked and installed twrp I did not install a custom rom for a few days. I then installed CM11, then AOKP, then a few others and always went back to AOKP untill I tried santod040's nusensesix rom. Recently flashed his newest nusensesix and loving everything about it. I anyone could get the sense camera to work with AOKP then that would be my perfect rom.
This is the guide that I followed back when I unlocked my phone minus the htc dev portion that would just be replaced with running sunshine.
http://htc-one.wonderhowto.com/how-to/unlock-your-bootloader-root-your-htc-one-install-custom-recovery-using-twrp-0147357/
Once your unlocked and s off all you have to do is fastboot flash a custom recovery and then flash supersu in recovery. Flashing a custom Rom should work to.

Hi All
Ive soft bricked my M8. I have an unlocked bootloader through HTCDev but Im still S-ON, I can boot into Bootloader, HBoot and even flash TWRP or back to stock recovery, but my M8 wont boot past the ONE Logo.
I tried to unroot SuperSU and have corrupted it, so from what Ive read I need to Side-load a rom through TWRP.
Does anyone have the 4.20.206.1 (LP 501 O2-UK) for Red CID: O2_001 that I would use to Sideload it..
Many thanks and any advice would be great

SIM unlock doesn't matter. It will survive a custom ROM flash.
Unlocked bootloader is not only okay, its mandatory to flash custom recovery and a custom ROM.
S-on is fine. Any Lollipop ROM will do, since you are already on LP firmware. You only need s-off to flash firmware manually, flash radio, hboot, etc.

I haven't really been following closely. But AFAIK, you can't flash Windows Phone onto our device yet.

Thanks for the tip.. ill stick to LP based roms only. Yeah, shame about Windows Phone. Might give the GPE roms a go .
Any further tips would be appreciated
I was running 4.4.4 kitkat on my htc one m8 with a cid no. of HTC__038 and the software no. - 3.35.720.1, s-on and booloader unlocked. I flashed TWRP recovery and rooted it then I unrooted it and installed stock recovery back again but it is still showing a modified tag in bootloader screen and I am unable to install lollipop on my phone as it gets stuck while installing in the installing screen. I used Hasoon2000's toolkit for this. Now, what should I do? Please help!

I know my opinion is not the most popular, but as long as 4.4.4 KitKat runs fine, I don't see a point of installing Lollipop at this time. When Sense 7 and Lollipop 5.1 will arrive, then hopefully it will be worth it.

Hello everyone , I have a htc m9 in semi brick , just installed TWRP , holds the current version of mexico telcel , to make it work , ( this in s -on )
My backup is hurt
update ?
is someone that could help on this?
It seems that you are in the same spot I was yesterday. I solved it by installing android revolution lollipop with twrp, then running sunshine un the same ROM, getting S-Off, then you can flash any RUU through fastboot.
I just have my m9 and is in nougat from telcel, is locked, my question is...
How can i get a developer rom or a custom rom in my m9??
Thanks in advance.

For developer rom you need S-OFF.
If you want custom roms you only need to unlock bootloader at htcdev.com, flash twrp and next you know what to do
Hi, I tried to flash ice htc one m8 rom and I noticed that i can't turn on wifi, the switch just goes grey and doesn't turn on. I tried other roms, like 6.0 GPe roms and they all don't work. The original stock wifi works fine.
My phone is an AT&T carrier unlocked htc one m8 running kitkat and unable to receive stock OTA updates probably because i am using a rogers sim card. I have bootloader unlocked , root, and s-off. I am using TWRP 2.7.0.2. I unlocked bootloader and custom recovery through Hansoon's tool. S-off through sunshine and root from TWRP. Please help me.
Update your firmware. It's old and outdated that's also why your Wi-Fi doesn't work on new roms.
Sorry, I didn't make that post.
