Phone is dead I think? M8 - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Recently, I dropped my phone on a concrete but nothing happened.
Just like a slight tap.
My external SD slot died. I tried replacing it with other MicroSD also it couldn't detect.
Then sometimes I connect my phone storage to the computer , it couldn't read properly. Just few folders are there and I couldn't copy nor move anything.
It gives me error " Unable to transfer - Device must have disconnected "
But i can delete the folder inside.
So I tried to delete the cache and I accidentally deleted my system cache.
Now my M8 couldn't boot at all.
I can access my bootloader and hardboot.
My CID is HTC__621.
I tried finding the RUU but couldn't find over the net nor xda sticky forums.
I just thought of removing the tamper banner , return the bootloader and splash screen to stock then send to warranty?
What do you think?
Is there anything I could do to get my phone back to it's life?
I even tried to writecid to 11111111.
It gives me USB Init error.

Why did you post the same info twice? This is against forum rules, and more importantly, just makes it confusing for those trying to help you. And more confusing for you, too.
I posted in your other thread. I'll ask the mods to close this thread.

Htc desire hd - sd card unavailable

Hi guys and girls.
New to XDA but not to Android.
I need some help big time as I'm totally stuck and I'm about to send my phone to "will it blend".
Long story short my memory card will not read when inside the phone all I get under phone storage is "unavailable" with mount being greyed out.
HTC DESIRE HD 2.3.3 (Not Rooted)
Things I have tried:
Factory reset soft/hard both through phone and through power + vol down.
Tried two different mem cards both coming up in storage as "unavailable" the general fix seems to be formatting in fat32 on desktop pc I have done that for both cards (which are both readable on PC) and have even tried formatting through command prompt still no luck.
read alot in ADB/fastboot as it is something I'm abit unfamiliar with saw that users where able to restore sd card function by installing adb then running command prompt: "fastboot oem enableqxdm 0" I get a message saying it was successful I reboot guess what...same problem. One thing I have noticed is if I type "adb shell" I get "Daemon started on port 5079". (I have enable debugging) followed by device not found. have tried two diff usb cables both work with my S2 on either media faceplate or backplate usb ports still no luck. Trust me on this one guys I have searched far and wide and I'm just about read to quit on this. I'm at a dead end any advice would be awesome.
I've tried to resolve the adb method by installing various drivers (running windows 7pro 64bit) the issue I seem to get is that windows doesnt like the drivers Im trying to assign so im forced into have to update them manually through "let me choose a driver from location" blah blah blah...
There is a system update available which may possibly fix my issue however suprise suprise I can't download the update without having an sd card. I have even tried downloading a HTC sdmount widget whether Im downloading the wrong one I dont know? I have got HTC sync installed as others claimed this helped windows detect the correct drivers but then technically speaking its not an ADB interface?? just like to point out that both of the sd cards work flawlessly in my s2. anyone who can help me will get paypal'd a beer!
Thanks
Seb.
OK, I had same problem with my Desire S. I'm running Win7 64bit as well. I un-installed HTC sync, including the drivers. Control Panel>Programs & Features. I then download the latest HTC sync. Went back to Programs & Features and un-installed HTC sync but, left the drivers. Rebooted PC and Win7 picked up Desire S.
Hope this helps
How old is your phone? Depending in which country you are in you may still be under warranty.
Try cleaning the contacts?
Not too sure if you can mount the sd card on phones that are not rooted, or if you have the hboot option/recovery. Fastboot turned off, phone off, then press and hold the down volume button and while pressing it down, press the power button.
If you are not sure what you are looking at do not play around with those options, and it may not work. Not sure if you get those options if you are not rooted.
Do not root your phone, it is improbable it will help, and chances are, it may cause more problems than help.
First option, find out about the warranty.
Edit: just noticed you can boot into hboot. Not too sure if you have the option for recovery and even less if you get the option to mount sd card through there.
2nd edit: I'm not responsible for bad advice. I still haven't had my second cup of coffee
3rd edit: to find out if the adb is working properly and you got the htc sync installed type in whatever the command is in adb to see if it detects your device.
However, try cleaning the contacts and find out about the warranty.

Thanks for the reply.
Hehe dont worry you can have some of mine I'm on the 4th cup thats how stressed I am getting with this. Just trying Taysider's method for trying to re-enable the sd card function. I have disabled fastboot using your method so is there a way of mouting sd in recovery? because Im sure I may have tried that already and all I got was an icon of a phone with a red exclamation mark infront of it?
thanks

How do I clean the contacts on the sd reader? it doesnt look very accessible unless I remove part of the housing? also what command prompt do you recommend I try first? like I said I tried "adb shell" and got no device found I'll update in a second as soon as I have tried this I have just uninstalled htc sync now all I need to do is assign driver to "android 1.0" in device manager then I'll take it for a spin.
Thanks dude

Re-read my previous post, there' another edit.
Thing is, Im not too sure what options you get nor l, well, anything related to non rooted phones. Do not root your phone as I mentioned previously. Mainly because first you ought to find out if you are still under warranty. If you are, send it to them.
Exclamation mark? Do a search, there were a few threads talking about that a few weeks back, but I believe it was about something else entirely, people effen up their phones trying to root.
From here on, the best advice I can give you is step back, take a break, continue later. There is probably too much info in your head right now.
1- see if adb can detect your phone.
2- try cleaning the contacts, do a search cause I can't remember if the cleaning of contacts was also for the sd card or only the wifi antenna.
3- Check your warranty, I can't stress this enough.
4- Coffee is kicking in
5- Check if you can detect the sd card through recovery. My assumption is that recovery works something like safe mode in windows, only an assumption.
6- Wait till someone more knowledgable than myself joins in. Chances are it would either be darunion, gleviatan or some chap who's nick I cant remember but starts with an M.
@guyinthecorner: you can skip this one - and I'm still waiting for that flashable zip.

[Q] Galaxy S3 stuck on samsung screen

I have been looking online for 3 days trying to get a definite answer on one thing. Is there anyway I can recover pictures off the phone.
The short is that the phone froze and would not respond. Pushing the power button for a while and then let off it rebooted but stuck on the Samsung screen. Most people respond to similar issues to do a factory reset which wipes your data.
I saw one other forum that discussed finding someone witha JTAG rig but I dont think i am going to have access to this and dont know anyone who does. They also mentioned ADB but i am not sure if i can use this or not. I do have drivers installed for my device on the PC and when I plug the phone in it recognized that a device has been plugged in and the drivers loaded but i did show that 'MTP USB Device' failed.
http://forums.androidcentral.com/sa...alaxy-s3-frozen-start-screen-help-please.html
When I started to crate this thread i saw about 5 similar threads. None of them answered my question. One that was linked from it confuses me though.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/help/flashing-rom-s3-change-setting-t1958368
So I have ADB and fastboot installed on my box. I want to give something a try but i am just not sure exactly what direction to start in to hopefully reach my goal of getting the phone up so i can grab the pics via USB. I saw where ADB could have uses such as 'pull' which could pull data off so hypothetically it could be possible to say pull the contents of the dir off but again not sure.

So, even when I buy a GS3 or any other phone i usually have 1gig or so for the OS and then an internal storage for keeping data. So my thought, and I understand I could be wrong here, is that I SHOULD be able to flash the current factory image (like overwriting the existing) or along side the existing without touching the internal storage with the data (the 16/32gigs). I want to give something a try and not lose the pics. I would certainly appreciate some links to help me figure out what to do next. Thanks in advance.
Sprint SPH-L710 stock, un-rooted without 3rd party recover (TWRP, etc). I can boot into recovery and get a 'no command' message. Deleting cache has not helped. Leaving batt out for a while has not helped. I think its running 4.3.
Thanks in advance.
Hi,
You will definitely need to ask the experts who own your device for help on this, so I will have your thread moved to your device section.
Good luck!

Flash Firmware to HTC One M9

Hello,
I bought a HTC One M9 and after 1 year, the device hat a bootloop. When I launched the device, it starts until there was a message "Optimizing Apps" (German: "Apps werden optimiert").
I think, the phone made an update and got an error. (I can't say it, because it's not my one.)
Because of this problems i tried to recover the phone and only got an red triangle. I thought, the phone was broken and sent it to HTC in poland. While the phone was sent in, i found out, that i had to push some Buttons to recover the phone.
Now, HTC said, the phone has a water damage and sent it back to me.
Now I have a phone, which only boots into the bootloader menu. I can't start the recover mode (there comes an error message) and also can't start into the download mode.
The phone also starts only into the bootloader mode (bootloop).
I can communicate to the phone by fastboot (not by adb), but some answers are empty.
For Example:
I enter: fastboot oem get_identifier_token and the answer is empty.
Also the answer for the battery Status is empty. (i can't say it exactly, because i made the tests one week ago, but something like: "accu-capazity: "
I think, because of this answer, the RUU tool stops flashing with the error message, that the accu-capazity is not high enough.
What can I do?
Thanks for any help.
Try sync manager or the original ruu if not rooted.
If rooted try flashing a rom from the sdcard.
The "optimising apps" message is an app you've installed that either doesn't have an odex or you've uninstalled an app and it didn't erase the odex. Rogue apps is the answer to the original problem and you didnt need to mess with the phone.
Beamed in by telepathy.
Hello,
thanks for your Reply. I've forgot this post.
I have an original phone, i didn't root it and also changed something on the System.
I've tried the sync Manager but there's no Option to repair my phone.
I also downloaded a RUU File. It's not verificated for Windows but the Setup seems very trustly.
Do you have other ideas to fix the phone?
According to your last answer, you also think, that this error isn't triggerd by an water damage?
There is no way that message can be caused by water damage.
Beamed in by telepathy.
But is there a way to fix the phone?
I can't get to the download mode, the sd-card method didn't work and the RUU tool says, the accu is to low.

Phone unaccessable after update(?) - systemui error

Phone M8 Europe, OS 6.12.401.4
problem:
phone is unaccessible - Error: com.android.systemui stopped working
This happens after he (is not sure tho...) had his phone updating. It was not reacting, so he restarted several times. Finaly he got "preparing apps" (not sure about the english term for it, its appears after you update before you) what amde he think there were an update.
Now after you start the phone the message "com.android.systemui stopped working" appears over the lockscreen. The lockscreen is still visible, clock shows and is not frozen also i can see the statusbar, Volume keys are working too. When i click ok on that message the lockscreen disappears, i sometimes get some screen flickering seeing a background picture (my friend does not know this). Touch inputs not accepted or nothing happens, same for volume keys but i can push power and choose to restart, airplane mode, shutdown and touch-choose this. If i understand that problem right, its related to the homescreen, so if i somehow can bypass this the apps and menus and stetting will work fine.
Now there can be 2 reasons for that. First something went wrong while updating and restarting and second a problem with the launcher (Smart Launcher) he installed on the phone because he had trouble accessing the statusbar.
Now i want to access the phone without factory reset because of all the important apps/data stored and not backed up...
I cannot access via adb - no device shown, i think because of usb debugging not enabled.
Delete the cache did not solve it. I cannot clear Dalvik, HTC Recovery does not show that option. Also installing TWRP is not possible because i cant unlock the phone.
When i install a stock rom its the same like factory reset, right?
HTC Sync Manager will not find the device either.
I am out of options, maybe you have some ideas? Is it possible to fix this without losing all the data? Are there other ways to access the phone like plug in a keyboard and use key combination to try to get into a menu?

Probably not. If the OS is not accessible, and the phone was not previously bootloader unlocked & TWRP, there is no way to retrieve the data.
You can run the RUU, which will probably repair whatever is wrong with the OS. But the RUU will wipe all data on the phone.
Either follow the instructions here, to run the RUU by htc_fastboot: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64926626&postcount=6
Or if you have an SD card, it may be easier to rename the RUU zip to 0P6BIMG.zip , put it on the SD card, insert in phone. Then restart to bootloader, and it should auto detect the zip and install it.

Don't know what you mean by "can't unlock the phone"
Does that mean you tried, but were not successful? If so, describe the exact steps you took, commands, and specific outputs, error messages, phone status that resulted, etc.
Probably bootloader unlock is perfectly possible, and you just aren't doing it 100% correct. Although the process to RUU is probably easier. Unless you also want to root, custom ROM, etc.
Also, unlocking the bootloader will wipe all data on the phone.
Thanks for your help redpoint73.
Apparently i did not properly read the "how to unlock/twrp", looks like i dont need to put the phone into usb debugging.... Nevertheless does the disclaimer on htcdev warn me about getting all user data deleted in the process :/
Biggest problem is to get the user data, but all solutions i found to get access to the phone involve clearing it. A factory reset will do the trick and she can use the phone again i guess, since the phone is not exactly bricked...more like softlocked. Everything seems to be running fine but the home/lock-screen. If that wont help i will run that RUU.
I will do some more research maybe i find some other solution to bypass it, if not i will we reset.
Also i dont understand how data can be so important that its a tragedy if its gone, but not important enough to backup. but thats not my problem.

There is no such thing. If the data is important to you (your friend, etc.), back it up. It's that simple.
There is a variety of ways to backup, and a number of tools were preinstalled on the phone. So there was really no reason for your friend to not be backing up.
Searching for ways to retrieve the data after something goes wrong, is not good plan. The likely result is going to be regret. But I guess some folks need to learn the hard way!

You don't need debugging for fastboot commands; you only need it for adb commands. While adb and fastboot are related, there are important differences. Fastboot (not adb) is what is needed to unlock the bootloader or RUU.
You were right, i was not able to save any data. The problem itself was solved with a reset - phone working again, top of the screen still not accessible, prob. broken.

S4 Mini i9195 only vibrates, ODIN mode boots, data recovery

Hello,
my Galaxy S4 Mini GT-i9195 died last weekend out of nothing. Battery was empty, I started it, it boots and switched off again. After I tried to charge it, nothing happens but when I longpress the power button it vibrates one time and the screen stays black.
The phone has TWRP and LineageOS on it and worked fine for some years.
What I've done and what I know:
1) Changed all but the main pcb, I have the same device again and switched all other parts. Same issue, so I'm sure the issue is on the motherboard.
2) Meassured battery current when off 0mA, when on 130-180mA
3) Meassured voltages, 1.8v and 3.0v are there when I switch the phone on
3) Meassured CMD pin on eMMC, the CPU is alive and tries to access the eMMC
What I don't know currently
1) Is the eMMC working correctly
2) Is any other hardware defect?
3) Is there some data corruption on any part of the eMMC?
Before I try to solder something on the phone I would like to test all other ways to recover my data.
The hardware itself is not important, but it would be nice to get the data. The SDcard that was used looks like the data is encrypted, so I suppose the userdata on the eMMC is encrypted as well. This means I hope to get the phone to boot to decrypt all this again.
I've seen that it could be possible to boot the phone from SDCard. Does anyone know how this oculd work?
I have a universal eMMC reader that supports the eMMC used, but don't know if it will work as long as the CPU is powered on.
Has anyone a idea what could be defect or how I can do a further diagnose of the phone to resuce my data?
Hope someone can help. Thanks!

Your question is on a Galaxy S4 Mini. This is the right place. We have already removed the duplicate.
Okay, new information. I ****ed up the key combination and now as I do it right, I can boot into ODIN mode.
I tried to read out the pid with heimdall and this doesn't works. On the other phone I tried the same and it works. So I suppose it's not a issue of my setup.
