Greetings fellow Friends from Galaxy
I just moved myself from the HTC Magic section to this one.. It was quite a jump, the Galaxy S Camera and 4inch screen are AWESOME =)
I have a few noob questions that I don't want to spread through many posts, so i've chosen to get them all here, without polution this forum section. Also they might come in handy for future Galaxy S buyers!
My phone is: 2.1-update1 @ I9000XXJF5
Question #1
Well at first glance everyone's trying to fix the "LAG PROBLEM"... I haven't noticed any lag!! What are we talking about? If its a fix.. i want it too
Click to collapse
the lag problem does not accure instantly after startup, it takes a while to do so.
Question #2
The phone came with Android 2.1, but at samsung-firmwares.com and at this dev section of the forum, i saw the JP3 Froyo release. How stable is this? Is it already a daily driver or a total beta? As an Android lover, i'd love to have the latest
Click to collapse
this release is, lets say, alpha quality, however some do use it daily and seems to be stable so far, but the jit is broken, so dont expect it to be faster than eclair
Question #3
I've used the One Click rooting solution and then the ROM Manager Clockwork to boot into clockwork rom and make a full-system backup. In my HTC Magic i had the recovery ROM (Amon_RA) flashed into the internal phone memory, so even if i didn't have a ROM installed, i was ALWAYS able to boot into recovery. That was a safety plus. How can i flash the Clockwork Recovery directly to my phone, without the ROM Manager? I'd feel more secure if i could count on recovery even if, for example, i flashed a non-working system ROM.
Click to collapse
you can run the clockwork recovery from original recovery by simply running it´s update.zip, this does in fact load the clockwork recovery into memory
Question #4
So what is YOUR favourite ROM? My stock has some unwanted apps, and even worse, it's Eclair. I'd like to switch soon, but i don't know these Galaxy S ROMs Tell me what's the best ROM for you!
Thanks guys, XDA is indeed the #1 place for mobile stuff
Cheers

If JIT is broken, the rest of new 2.2 features can be achieved through Market tools... I'll stick to 2.1 then. By the way, where's a CLEAN 2.1 Rom? this one has lots of service-provider tools... They suck.

Now That's a fix! So i just have to keep my update.zip of Clockwork Rom in INTERNAL SD CARD so that anytime, anywhere, i just have to perform update.zip and the Clockwork will boot ONCE from RAM and them be cleared at next boot, right?

I've seen the fix but i'd like to understand if the bug exists in every kernel, since is a file-system related bug.

Give it a try, it clears out the stock rubbish and leaves it in a folder on ur sd card to install later if you need it.

For Starters....
I'd just like to stay that this is none of my own work, I've just piggy backed off everyone else's work because I wanted the latest stock rooted with recovery. And i am by no means a developer. But I've seen this been requested a few places so I thought I would share.
This installed perfectly on my sim free 16gb D802 here in the UK, so I cannot see any reason why it wont install on any 16gb D802.
First off, Recovery.
I used Philz touch(6.19.7), I haven't had a single problem with the latest version of this recovery for either stock or aosp roms. And if you wish to use this rom please use his latest recovery for a smooth install as i can not help you otherwise. This rom has NOT been tested on twrp so please do not use it for this rom.
Installation
There has been one report of someone loosing their recovery, if you test this zip, use an app from the play store to boot into recovery to avoid doing a full wipe if recovery isn't their.
If you haven't installed a stock kk rom before with custom recovery, you'll need to download the kitkat baseband from Cloudyfa, if your not sure do it anyway, it wont hurt - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2680948
If you wish to be rooted the easiest way is to make root when prompted as you exit recovery and then install SuperSu from the play store. Alternatively you can download the latest SuperSu and flash it in recovery.
Second download THE ROM - https://mega.co.nz/#!lt9AhYzD!kOjq9_C8Ag-vP1D8UKnbAl3dwx8zmK__BETgGuQdSnE
Mirror - Thanks Wimmme - https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B_CmKeXB6dmrU0ZUbXBKY2Vmanc/edit
Back up personal data
Nandroid Backup
Do A Full Wipe!!
Flash KitKat Baseband if needed.
Flash Rom
Flash SuperSu *Optional, can be flashed or installed after.
Reboot!
If you feel it is a bit sluggish comparing with the custom stock roms, you can always reduce the animation speed in developer settings.
Problems with 4G/LTE?
Get a file explorer with root. Go to root of phone -> system -> build.prop and change ro.telephony.default_network from 9 to 11 and save. Annoyingly will be lost after reboot. If it still doesn't work after this change, try also along with this edit:

I can't say for sure as i can not test but, i can tell you that people with 32gb phones have had success with the same flashable zip without the mods for custom recovery if you check their threads. So my guess is yes, it would work, but there is no guarantee, if you try just make sure you have a 32gb rom you've used before and know if working on the phone to flash back to or of course do a nandroid backup.
If anyone has tried this, please post and let me know its running. So I can leave the thread up with confidence. Thanks.

I'm really sorry about that! But to my understanding it shouldn't even be possible since only the system, modem and cust partitions are in the zip so your recovery shouldn't be touched.
Are you sure you didn't flash anything else before hand? what's steps did you take? followed my instructions?
To anyone who wants to test if they have recovery, then I recommend using an app from the play store in order to reach your recovery, that way i think you'll avoid wiping your phone if you truly have no recovery anymore after flashing the zip.
Update
So your post has really made me panic as obviously I only have good intentions and feel terrible about your loss of personal data. But I've double even triple checked everything, not much can go wrong, I just tested the zip with TWRP. And I'm still getting a good install with recovery. You do have the D802 yes? as clearly the zip only contains the patched D802 boot only.
I've literally only just started developing for a few months now after a recent uni project inspired me. Building myself a custom rom adding the features I miss but such problems like this scare me of ever sharing them. Too much responsibility.
Again really sorry, would love to know what has gone wrong. I'll leave the link up for now unless a similar problem occurs in which it will be removed.
Maybe he accidentaly flashed lenash's zipfile instead of yours. Then he would lose custom recovery.

if nobody else has had that problem and they followed your instructions unless there are loads with the same problem then its got to be user error, please dont be put off as im sure your confidence will grow with time thanks for bringing this to release and please carry on doing what you do as we need good people like yourselves to keep on doing this stuff, cheers and thanks for sharing

Yeah, I guess your right, I thought I was pretty safe sharing this as like I said it isn't my own work just patched together what the experienced developers have released. But I have work in progress I think people will enjoy. Just didn't realise how responsible i would feel untill i read that message and had a full blown panic haha.
has someone seen any change/improvement vs 20b?
Since kitkat my g2 stutter when playing youtube HD video over wifi when bluetooth is enabled. as soon as I turn it off, it plays smoothly.
I would really like to know if this release fix it before upgrading.
So ive got a D851, and as most of you know, Lollipop still isnt out yet, should be out soon no doubt, but ive read that there are a lot of bugs and issues and what not with the official version of Lollipop. So my question is, would i be better off waiting for the official Lollipop or getting a L based rom?

Yes but it's only a matter of time before a fix comes out. Nothing better than running stock official firmware. Too many roms have different bugs. Unless you want try and find the one that has less.

I guess youre right. Thanks!
Either way, you're going to have bugs. Some are very well documented on any device for which Lollipop has been released.
My thought is to wait for the custom ROMs based from the D851 stock. By that time, many of the existing bugs will have been squashed or have acceptable work-arounds. You also end up with the best of both worlds, think of it as customized stock.
From what I hear, official Lollipop has a lot of bugs or rather annoying quirks, and that no had yet to find a way to unlock the bootloader, so would it be smart to wait for the official update, or root right now and get a L based rom?

I guess it really doesn't matter what you download and flash. Official lollipop has bugs and any L rom you get now has many bugs also. As for me I'm sticking with zonerom until something solid comes out.

I'm I noob here and I don't understand what everybody's talking about here. From my understanding, a flashable COS13 zip is out in the open and works? How should I go about flashing it if I want to keep TWRP recovery? Do I have to do a clean install?

as far as I am aware there is NO COS 13 zip for the crackling, only this incremental update (ie an update from 12.1, so that needs to be installed as a base first and then the update flashed from recovery)
There is CM 13, both snapshots and nightlies that an be flashed from TWRP as ZIPs
TWRP an be flashed from fastboot whenever you like, so that shouldn't cause you any major concerns :good:

This is kinda a pointless post. Its been stated multiple times that you can not flash note 5 roms without a proper patch. Yes, it will flash but will have hard key bugs along with others. You can even hard brick your device to a point you can't even flash stock odin tars to fix the issue. You all have been warn. Until the patch is out if it ever comes out I would not be flashing random note 5 roms.
AGAIN DONT FLASH NOTE 5 ROM WITHOUT PATCH OR PERMANENT BRICK CAN HAPPEN THAT CANT BE FIXED!

About time, I've emailed you a few MM boot img's. If you flash a custom kernel with and sprint note 5 MM rom you will have full use of the rom, including recent and back keys and a lot less chance of it bricking.

Yes. A few have spammed me and if they had bothered to read my thread OP FAQ they would understand.

I personally thank you. If you decide to build your kernel for us again, it will open up a lot of roms for us. So thank you.

Always best to use SkyHigh on stock. Any possible custom ROM call audio "issue" will be up to the ROM cook - dev to sort out - - not the kernel.
I'll PM you with a test soon. Please try on stock with no other BS interfering tweaking apps and scripts etc. Instructions are same for all variants, so please familiarize with requirements and install instructions (from other SkyHigh MM threads)
