[Q] HTC One X won't turn on at all

Hello, I asked this question yesterday and fixed it but it appears to have gotten worse.
Pretty much my phone turned off randomly last night and now all I get is a red flashing light, I'm on Cyanogenmod 10. I managed to turn my phone on once and it turned off again, I think it may be stuck on 2% battery or something. I also did the plug into pc then switch to mains and left it to charge but nothing happened, I'm trying to go back to stock ROM too and completely format my phone and start again.
Can someone help me with this? I can't turn my phone on enough to get it into USB mode so I can change the stuff around and I think it may actually be broken, I have no idea how to fix it.

I left it charging all day, nothing has happened

I think it may actually be down to having to change power cable as I lost my original HTC One X the other day, its probably not charging fast enough

I had it happen just now for the first time, the battery monitor indicated 89% so it didn't need charging, and plugging it in didn't turn on the amber LED. I held down the power button for a good 30 seconds and a few seconds later it started up.
How odd and I hope it doesn't happen again, considering I just switched from the lemon problem ridden LG Optimus LTE (Nitro HD).

My Samsung Galaxy Nexus won't turn on

First of all I read all the possible posts here in the XDA forum about this problem but no one was able to help me :s
I was listening music with my cellphone than it crashed and turned of from nohting. My first thought was "Damm, it crashed!" and I removed the battery and after a couple minutes I put it back and than the cellphone never turned on again. No battery status is showing up, no leds, odin and flash mode doens't work either. I don't no what to do :s
I tried this:
◘ Unplug from USB, remove battery 5 min, put it back
◘ Odin and Flash mode
◘ Turn it on without battery on pc
◘ Turn it on while recharging
My GNexus model is a I9250 GSM.

Could you add some more details? How long the phone's been in operation, refurbished?, rooted?, your current ROM, kernel, radios, advanced kernel settings such as voltage changes, any tweaks, battery type, temperature.
This exactly happened to me on my DroidX. I spent 2 weeks trying everything to revive it including taking the phone apart before adding it to the pile and getting my current GNexus Toro.. so I know how much this sucks. I'm not an expert on phones bricking but I know that connections can go bad or come loose, especially if the phone has been dropped or other impact, components start to lose their integrity over time and voltage shorts 'burn out' op-amps. You mentioned listening to music, so I'm wandering about the IVA components burning out, which usually has voltage too high especially on boot... Hope you can get it working.

Well first of all I thank you for your concern and my phone is on again, thanks to my uncle. The phone is '4 months old', I rooted last month, bootloader unlocked and I was using samsung stock rom (4.2.1 JB). Yeah, that really suck monkey b*lls. If you got the same problem as me (I really hope not) that's what you should do: First remove the battery, plug the charger and than put the battery back. In my case, It kind "shorted" the battery and my phone is back on. I was reading posts and posts and discovered that GNexus has this problem and a lot. Dunno when it can happen again but I really don't want a paperweight. Once again, thank you!

Glad you got your Nexus back up and runnning. Thanks for posting back with details after you figured out the problem and got your phone working, +1 right there. There's always a good chance this will help out someone later on. :good:

Confirmation: balums worked for me
balums uncle's solution worked for me: specifically, (1) removed USB power, (2) removed battery, (3) applied USB power, (4) inserted battery, (5) press power button.

Does anybody have technical (design/EE) insight into what would cause this?
This was starting from a device that appeared totally dead.
The battery was *fully charged* (and showed up that way immediately when the device finally booted).
I had done the obvious things of removing/inserting the battery, cleaning contacts, checking the USB power connection.
Was about to pull it apart when I saw balums post, saving me huge time.
Device is about 16 months old. Stock OS and settings. First time this has happened.
Search terms:
CDMA (Verizon) Samsung Galaxy Nexus -- SCH-i515.
Phone won't boot. Device won't turn on. Won't start. Dead. No worky.

Interestingly I also have the standard stock version of OS and Hardware which I bought 14 Months ago (nearly to the day). I was surfing over WiFi yesterday evening and when I turned the phone off I noticed the screen getting grey for a moment, not black. And this morning the Nexus just didn't turn on.

That is very odd because my i515 also did the exact same thing and I have owned it for 15 months. I can't wait to get home and try this trick. More to come.

Galaxy nexus wont turn on or charge.
I tried (1) removed USB power, (2) removed battery, (3) applied USB power, (4) inserted battery, (5) press power button but my galaxy nexus still dont turn on. i have 4.2.2 stock rooted. i was downloading something and my screen become weird in colors and i cent use the phone. i turn it of and now wont turn on again or charge.
after unlocking and rooting i installed this touch recovery from google play. [ROOT]Recovery Tools

Excellent! balums' suggestion helped me. I thought I had tried this before but apparently didn't quite get this in the right sequence.
The only remaining issue I have now is that when it does turn on, I've got the thunderbolt on the battery indicator, the phone says it's charging at the lock screen, but when I go to Battery under Settings it says that the battery is discharging. This effectively has my phone in a state where I can't unplug it (battery is too low but it also doesn't appear to actually "charge"). I tried replacing the Micro USB charge port PCB board and came up with the same results. To me, this seems like a problem and may indicate a motherboard or battery connection issue. I used the "Battery Monitor Widget" and it indicated that it was getting AC power. Any thoughts?

Thanks to XDA and Balum's suggestion! I thought my phone just died! It was on 70somethign % battery last I looked, connected by USB to the PC and I don't know if I turned it off and walked away for a while or if it turned off by itself, but it would not turn on no matter what I did after I got back to my desk. It is on Android 4.3 takju stock not rooted.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus won't power up
I got a Samsung Galaxy Nexus. I got it from my cousin and therefore don't have any information about the rooting status as well as the ROM but i guess it was running stock. The phone won't turn ON, it is not detected in the computer. No LED or any other indication. I tried the above method which worked for many people but it failed. What is special about the phone is that the upper part of the screen is heating up more as compared to the rest of the phone. Can somebody help me fix this? Is this a hardware issue?

I have the EXACT same problem as you do. I have no idea where to start to try to fix it. I took a picture, then lines went squiggly across the screen, then it flickered, and died. I cannot power it on at all. I tried Uncle's tricks. No luck.
Anyone have some ideas on what to try? Thanks.

Also having the same problem. My Nexus has been rebooting randomly for the past week or so, and finally, this morning, it refuses to turn on at all.
It's a Verizon Galaxy Nexus running stock, but it's been rooted. I'm using the extended battery. The trick that was posted earlier in this thread doesn't seem to work for me. I've tried multiple USB cables and power sources.
I'm going to try the standard battery when I get home, but I'm not expecting positive results.

Work-around
About two months ago whenever I turned my Gnex off, it became totally unresponsive to all attempts to start again. After a lot of trial and error, I discovered that if I pulled the battery for 30-60 minutes and reinstalled, it would power on normally. I have completely wiped and rooted the phone and the problem persisted.
Today I thought about it some and realized there may be some residual charge in the phone, and my waiting period is to allow the charge to drain. To test this theory, I powered the phone down and then tried to restart - nada. Pulled and reset the battery - nada. Pulled the battery, shorted out all four pins that would make contact with the battery, reinstalled battery, and it powered right up. I have not been able to successfully repeat a fast restart when shorting out all four pins. Pulling the battery and waiting 30-60 mins still works.
Incidently about the same time, my screen has stopped auto rotating (and yes it is set to do so).

What are you doing exactly to short out the battery?

galaxy nexus reboot
my galaxy nexus is about 1 year old now and this is the first time that i've encountered a problem with it. It suddenly restarted, and will take about 5-7minutes before it opens, it will be open up to the "X" logo and when it reaches the normal screen it will restart again. I don't know whats wrong with it. please help/

Similar problem + water
Ok, so I have a similar situation I believe. My phone took a swim. I left it off and riced it. Later on after I believed it to be dry enough, i turned it on. (wow it freaking worked) After a few seconds of using the device checking screen the phone snapped off and went into a reboot. I waited until it came back and i shut it down and thought I'd let it go over night. I plugged it in and let it charge (charge icon was displaying). Everything looked good.
Fast forward. Morning time. I go to turn the phone on. Nothing.
This time the phone won't boot. Instead all i see is the white battery icon show up indicating the battery is 100%. When i plug it in to the charger i get the battery with the charging bolt, then it shows the normal battery indicator light. After that, I get nothing.
I tried the method I saw above. remove power, remove battery, apply usb power, insert battery, press power. Sadly it didn't work.
Anyone have any other ideas as to what might be going on?

Flashing Red Light, Now Phone Unresponsive

So I woke up this morning and my phone was A-OK. Charged to 100% overnight, and I left it plugged in while getting ready for work. I came back to it 20 minutes later and it was really warm/borderline hot to the touch (through a case). The battery was down to 85% yet still plugged in. I then drove to the train station 5 minutes away and it went down to near 50%, still really warm/hot.
Streamed some music and watched some Netflix on the 90 minute ride, and the battery was down to 35%. At this point I turned the phone off because it was still hot.
Plugged it in to charge at the office, and got a blinking red light for about 10 seconds. It then went solid red and stayed that way until I unplugged it 4 hours later. The phone was still quite warm, but no longer hot. Hold down the power button... nothing. Plug it back in, same red light pattern. I got nervous at this point and hit up good old El Goog to see what could be wrong.
Found a lot of threads pointing to the One X suffering this fate, along with a few One's. Followed the advise of holding VolUp + VolDown + Power for 2 minutes. The phone got hot again. Unplugged the phone, removed the SIM, and held the buttons again. The phone had cooled off dramatically while doing this, to the point that it is now cold to the touch. Reinserted the SIM, and plugged it in again... no light at all this time.
From this point on, the various threads disagree on the next steps. Plugging it in to the computer yields no light, just like an wall charger. I don't have the HTC cord with me at work. I've tried a Nokia micro USB cable and a Sony wall charger. Other suggestions call for leaving the phone off (like I have a choice on that part) and unplugged for several hours. Others say to mash the Power button for 10-20 times and that may cause it to power on.
Any suggestions on how I should proceed with this? My phone is unlocked, so I'd love to avoid replacing it.

Have you tried the bright light trick? Hold the phone under a bright light (really bright light, the brighter the better) and hold down the volume button + power for 15-20 seconds. That should get you into your bootloader. This will tell you whether or not its rom based, or phone based.
If you cant even get into your bootloader, it sounds like a hardware problem. If you can get into your bootloader but it will not boot to your rom, then its software.

Seriously sounds like a battery/charging issue, gives all signs of a discharging battery. That would explain the heat build-up.

Was you using the charger that came with it? Or are you using a different charger? I once used my motorola cord to charge my phone and it felt like it was going to burst in to flames. I then got the HTC cord that came with the phone and it cooled down.

I don't have the OEM charger here, but I was using it at home to charge it. I'm hoping leaving it alone for another 4 hours will bring it back to life on the HTC cable.

Lets hope that it didnt turn on because the battery died. Hopefully the OEM HTC cable/charger will fix your issue.
If your battery is truly completely drained, it may take a few seconds for the light to finally come on... so dont freak out in the first 10 seconds.

Your battery could of went bad. Does your phone look like it has swelled anywhere from the battery expanding ?

I'm trying to remain calm until I get home. I haven't gotten a light in 30+ minutes of being connected to the Sony charger, but I'm chocking that up to it not being the HTC original.

It's tough to properly gauge it with my eyes, but nothing looks off. If I press down on the center of the phone at the top, the it does not lift off the table. If that push from the center at the bottom, it does lift off ever so slightly. But I don't know if this is because of the camera location or what.

Called up Verizon just to make sure there's no other method that I didn't try, and they advised me to get a replacement. I've got a few days to try and get this thing working before I'll have to send it back and say goodbye to root.
Interestingly enough, they were sure to warn me about physical damage and being subject to a $299 charge if there is any damage. But they didn't make any mention about if the device is found to be unlocked.

Well the cooling down certainly could have been the battery finally being completely dead. Maybe stop in a Verizon store to try another battery? No chance a bad SIM card could cause this right?

Try another battery? You mean just pop off the back cover, take out the old battery and try a new one? You're one sick troll.

I did remove the SIM before doing some of the steps as there were reports that a missing one will cause the phone to pop into recovery. I really hope I can get this one back to life so I don't have to wait for an S-Off exploit to root again.

Got home, plugged it in for several hours, no light. Looks to be quite dead.

Really sorry to hear this man.
I would keep it off 12-24 hours.

also I have sent back MANY HTC Dev unlocked phones, they just flash the new software re-setting it back to S-ON, and stock. I don't think they really give a ****, esp if it's not an issue from say, S-OFF.

That's a pisser. My One has been rock solid. Sounds like a really weird issue. I doubt it's recoverable. I'd just go for the replacement. Generally even if it's unlocked they won't have any issue replacing it. In fact, here is Australia, retailers aren't allowed tor efuse warranty claims even if the device has been unlocked, rooted etc...
Perhaps put it into a bag and into the freezer for a few hours. That can sometimes resolve battery issues.

Did I read it correct that you were not able to go into the bootloader? (full Power off > vol down + power)?
If that's the case then you should head for a replacement.. if it is dead they probably wont be able to fire it up to check if its locked or not anyway

Very good point, and by the time they do, the guys at the repair center can't physically go and find every rooted phone, then bring it to corporates attention, they get the phones, reflash the software fix the problems listed and out goes another returd. I mean refub, sorry.

Еxtreme overheating

So i will go straight to my problem.
Yesterday I left my Z5 Premium to charge over night (for like 4-5 hours). When i get up for work, I disconnected it from charger and quickly checked my phone (standard route - messenger, line app) those actions didn't take longer than 2 minutes. After that i left my on couch and went to bathroom. When i came back phone was super hot and with black screen. Tried to turn it on and off but nothing happened and decided to don't touch it and wait for it to cool down. Unfortunately it's been over 24 hours since that happened and still phone didn't even vibrate when i try to turn it on.
I started to thinking that battery or cpu is gone (when i put it back to charger again start to get super hot).

Is the phone hot towards the top part (cpu) or bottom/middle (battery)?
Sounds like you have an app that's stuck and running the cpu at max frequency constantly...did you install/update any app before the problem arose? If so, uninstall/downgrade it and see...
Are you using Flat Style Colored Bars by any chance? If you do and are running version 2.1.0 as it's known to cause cpu overheat, if it's the case downgrade to the previous version...
One last thing, have tried to force power down the phone (power button/volume up combo) that might fix a stuck app...

FACEBOOK MESSENGER, and LINE MESSENGER are the worse apps i have observed over the years using mobile resources.
if I were you, i would have done following with my z5p
1. Press and hold the Power button and the Volume Up button at the same time ( FIVE SECONDS MAX). The device will vibrate 3 times, release THE BUTTONS IMMEDIATELY !!!, this will soft reset your phone. leave for few minutes and restart. if it doesn't restart, plug the charger and see if its charging. Once charged, start your device.
2. I would have uninstalled many apps which i don't use. for example bloatware,
3. since my device is rooted, i have installed PURIFY with root access granted and it stops AUTO STARTING apps by default and having notification access panel. the only apps i want to have auto start i have manually screened them. this apps overall HELPS me big time. it works on NON ROOTED phones also! but not to its full potential.

The problem is that i can't make phone to start. Even when i put it to charge still doesnt indicate anything (screen is black, no vibrate, no led indication) thats why i created this thread.

The problem is that i can't make phone to start. Even when i put it to charge still doesnt indicate anything (screen is black, no vibrate, no led indication) thats why i created this thread.

if all above what me and DM said isn't helping then you must take the device to SONY TECH SHOP and let them look at your device!

You might have soft brick your phone... But you still should be able to recover it...it might take a bit longer though, your battery is completely drained...
Read this thread, it's old but should still be relevant...
You never answered my questions though, did you install or updated or did anything in particular before the phone started to act up?

No. I made settings to update only when phone is charging and is connected to wifi. Even made it to disable all data transfer while is locked. Phone itself isn't rooted and im using same apps since i bought phone.

Is your phone still completely Unresponsive?
Did you try to leave on a charge to see if it shows any sign of life (led coming up)
Go check that thread that I posted, you'll bring it back to life...
They're hard to brick unless it's an hardware problem otherwise they can take a beating trust me

Hello again.
Just want to leave a quick update:
After finally I got free time I read thread that suggested me to read and started to attempting to revive phone. It's been an hour since I put phone on charger. Still no red led. Only "hot" area is at shell that covers CPU - area that is in red circle.
Everything else is cold. CPU temperature is around 38-42°C pretty normal I would say. So how much time I should leave to charge? Last time when phone was running battery was on 100% (last Friday).
Update 2:
I measured voltage of battery and it's 2.81V
I will leave it to charge till I sleep and tomorrow will need to purchase new battery.
When I bought phone I had problems with battery but with last update from SONY I managed to use phone for 3 days with one charge (normal use - few captured pictures, an hour games, 30 minutes watching Californication on Netflix and FB and Line - less than 10 minutes).
So can you recommend me an site where I can purchase new battery (I want to be original if possible)?

Well guys I have bad news. Problem is in hardware.
After I left phone to charge over night when I woke up I unplugged charger and measured voltage of battery. The results was bad: voltage of battery was 0V. Then I unplugged battery and put phone to charge without connected battery to measure what voltage is going to battery and it was 0.61V.
So thanks again for trying to help me and encouraging to fix problem.

Z5 Premium - Bricked - Red light flashing on charger - Not charging

I've tried to solve this on another thread but was instructed to make a new thread to get more visibility.
Last night I set the latest update to start 5am. I had about 50-70% battery and the phone was connected to nearly full 13000mAh power bank.
This morning when I woke up I was wondering why doesn't the power bank indicate any charging light so I picked my phone and it was dead. I clicked power bank and it started charging. So the thing what happened here was that the phone started updating and somehow rejected the charging current of the power bank which made the power bank to stop charging. After that the phone started updating firmware, drained all battery and got bricked.
You might ask why the hell would I use power bank when I update firmware? Well, it does automatically charge when I plug it in, so it should have stayed on all the time. It also provides enough power to charge the phone for more than 2 times, so I would consider it as being same as being charged from a regular charger, because its also as fast so has quite the same charging current. It is a mystery how did the phone reject charging current and how did not the power bank start recharging as fast as possible.
The problem
The phone is being bricked. I have charged it today about 3 hours with power bank, 1,5 hours with computer and now around 4-6 hours with regular charger. If I try to hold reset / power / volume- / volume+ / power & volume+ / power & volume- any of those for at least 10 seconds, nothing happens. Only thing that happens is the red led stops blinking and stays on red when I hold power. Sony companion wont recognize it. I accidentally tried to fix firmware which orders to hold vol- and then connect but it doesn't connect. The reason this was an accident is that I absolutely do not want to lose all my files, so I need to somehow get my firmware working again without losing pictures, videos or text messages (notes there) or voiding my warranty. So luckily I didn't manage to get the fix firmware to work cuz it should delete everything. Also pressing reset for 2 minutes does the same so I discard that option for now. The battery should be full by now, I have also tried changing the charger after I noticed I had 2 identical Sony chargers one charging power bank and another on this z5p and only that one charging power bank was hot and another one charging phone was maybe a little warm. After I changed them the situation became opposite.
Is there anything I could do to save my files and make this crap work again? It is quite frustrating now because the most important thing are my files, not even the overpriced phone (and I guess factory reset can get it work but thats the last option, I absolutely need those files:crying

From what I understanded before, I thought you charged 7 hours directly to an outlet, but you switched between powerbank, and pc too?
Well this is kind of my mistake because I said try connecting it to pc in between.
After reading this more detailed explanation, I would strongly suggest to just leave it charging directly to an outlet.
For atleast about 6-8 hours just as a first try to try to solve the issue (hopefully) without having to take more desperate measures lol.
So start with charging again, sorry for the misunderstanding.... it is partially or maybe mostly my fault :silly:

I'll leave it charging "from the wall". However power bank also provides high power and I'm worried about the charger temperature, so could it just charge it very very slow cuz no heat is building up. Anyways, it should have charged like 3 times by now but ill give it 10 hours now. Ill update here later what happens.

it is really alot to read... but if you want to have the best chance to unbrick your phone and hopefully still have all your files, I think you should read it before you take any other drastic actions.
I think this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=33032165&postcount=2 is the most interesting for you
You will need flashtool to save your phone, but this doesn't automatically means you have to flash the full firmware (which will erase all files on the phones internal storage).
I know you are hesitant to use flashtool but at some point I think you have no other options sometimes.
BUT.... dont worry, MAYBE you are lucky and just flashing the kernel part of the firmware might fix your problem.
Im not going to add it here as I dont want to be the one to blame when accidentally providing the wrong file for your phone lol.
So I think you should read that guide and see what exactly applies to your issue, and then before you do anything just ask in that thread for help.
Start by telling you aren't even familiar with flashtool yetso they can help you faster. And let them help you to (if needed) correctly flash the correct kernel file to your device.
I think they can help you much better than me, because they have more knowledge,
and know better how to put all info it into context to make it understandable for people who aren't really familiar with al this.
Also it saves me alot more typework lol.
Ill still keep an eye to your thread to see if you manage to fix your brick and maybe answer (some questions) when I have time.
Better to just ask questions in the recovery thread, but who knows... if you post double and Iknow the answer, ithat would be luck and get you back into your phone faster hopefully

Ok it has been charging for about 12 hours extra now, total 24h. Still blinking red. not connecting to PC, still reacting to hold power / hold power and hold vol - with continuous red. Reset wont do anything.

YOU NEED TO RESET YOUR PHONE!
If your phone is soft-brick and does nothing when, -the buttons are pressed, -a charger is plugged in, -or if the screen is still ON then....
The memory chips need lose power to clear the bad data and reset the phone. Either by the battery going dead or by unplugging the battery.
You can to leave the phone on a charger to see when the battery dies. Usually the battery will not charge in a soft-brick state and will die while still plugged in. After the reset you should then get the red led. However if you get a red led immediately when first plugged in and no response but red led for a long time, then you may need to leave the phone unplugged and let the battery die.
Only after the chips reset will you get the red led. The RED LED should mean the phone is charging in 'low battery level charge mode'.
Once you get the red led, after the reset, do NOT try to turn on the phone. If you try to start the phone now without fixing the problem you will have to start all over.
So maybe if keeping it plugged for so long doesn't work, leaving it unplugged and wait for the battery to die will help?

I took the phone to repair 2 days ago and told them to take off battery and make only soft reset. No information yet :/
If they cant help me to fix phone or get files ill read the threads, but I guess if they cant do a thing neither can I

Ok its ready to pick up from repair. They coudln't fix it. Lets take a look at those threads.
I don't know but I guess the service dude checked if the battery was dead? But still I'm thinking that it could be one possibility.

I wonder though if they even did anything, so you should ask them about what they did.
