Some advice plz? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II

Hey guys, I need your expertise. My sister's GN2 (SGH-I317), not rooted, has been acting up lately and just recently has completely shut off and won't turn on past the start screen. I was trying to install a new stock rom onto the phone, but it won't connect to Odin, even though the drivers are up to date. Any ideas on what I can do to fix this issue?

You're connecting the phone while it is in download mode? Have you tried doing a factory reset from stock recovery?

Factory reset from stock recovery was the first thing I did. Then connected the phone while in download mode

Is the phone recognized at all in download and non-download mode? Tried different USB cables and ports? Tried using Odin 3.07? Does anything appear in device manager when the phone is connected?

Tried all these things but nothing works. The computer won't even recognize when the device is connected.

Nothing appears in Windows device manager? If not, could be a hardware problem.

[Q] Huge Odin Dilema

I was using the pre rooted EL29 odin package and all of a sudden my phone randomly disconnected while going through the file recovery. It boots up to download mode but now my PC wont recognize it. It says "USB Not Recognized" and i've tried 4 cables and 2 computers. Any help?

Try a fresh install of Kies on your PC. If that doesn't work are you able to boot up into Recovery?

No it says that there was a firmware update error and to recconect to the computer with kies. I've had that error many times before and id just go into download mode and flash a stock tar in but this time Odin will not recognize it. Says not recognized
God damnit. Installed latest drivers from Kies and still not recognizeable. It boots into download mode so that means it's not bricked and should be hope for me. ugh

Honestly, that may be a brick. Pulling the cable while running Odin almost always ends up with that result.

This may sound weird, but try this.
Reboot your PC and load up Odin. Shut down your phone and pull the battery. While holding down the download mode buttons, put the battery back in. Then connect your cable once you boot into download mode.

Didn't pull a cable just disconnected on its own...didnt touch the computer. this has happened to me many times before but it always detected in download mode
Now it says installing drivers, but then failed....

Sorry to hear. If that has happened before, probably something wasn't right before. I've never had a spontaneous disconnect while using Odin and I flash a lot when testing the various releases.
If you can't get back into Odin D/L and have the phone be recognized, you might want to look at jtag repair from mobiletechvideos or having sprint expedite the warranty repair for you.

I understand, that is why I gave you suggestions if you could *not* get back in (I'm assuming you are going to try other things)
this has happen to be before, i had a faulty usb cable, so i switched and it worked. Have you tried using a different usb cable?

How about battery pull hold vol up and pwr for recovery mode while re-installing battery? then nan restore a backup . You did backup right?
This happened to me a couple days ago but I could get into recovery which fixed it. Make sure you have Odin open on both your computer and phone and THEN connect your phone to your computer. Also, reinstall Kies, all of your drivers, etc. on your computer. The weird part about what happened to my phone is that the phone would be detected while in recovery but not in Download mode.

tried all of those.
Are you using Kies for the drivers? I thought Kies interfered somehow and it was recommended to just install the full driver setup standalone.
Also, have you tried a different pc yet?
Also make sure you have USB Debugging enabled.

Possibly. Have you tried to odin the one-click-root back to stock rooted yet?
First thing I would do personally. Also, swap cables again and try a different usb port. I would plug into the rear usb if possible too. Front usb ports are prone to interference since they're wired via a cable from the motherboard. And do not use a usb extension cable (found this out the hard way too). Good luck.

Agreed with previous poster - you may be bricked, seems oddly familiar to this issue:
Stuck at "Data.img" thru Odin
As sfhub has mentioned you can and should try the Odin OC again to confirm. But if it says the same it's fairly certain that the eMMC is damaged and the phone is bricked.
If you try again and it has the same results you may want to post more details on that thread. It's been a good attempt to try and document each person's case and try to find what is causing this to happen. The more info the better to troubleshoot, such as what you tried to flash and how you were flashing (were you going back to GB + CWM to flash ICS, for example)

[Q] USB Device Not Recognized

I bought a Korean Note II (SHV-E250S) and my computer wasn't able to recognize it from the get-go. Now, I installed a rom that caused my phone to be stuck at the first screen and I can't connect my phone in download mode to restore it. I tried a different cord (supposedly OEM), reinstalling kies, downgrading kies, installing just Samsung USB drivers, uninstalling the unknown device driver, shutting down the computer, installing updates, reupdating kies, emergency software recovery/upgrade, switching USB ports, USB debugging on/off (when the phone still worked). I'm literally out of things to try. Any help will be appreciated.

No. Sorry. I made a back up in clockwork recovery but I get an error MD5 mismatch.
Device Descriptor Request Failed (Code 43)
The phone is now soft bricked and I get Device Descriptor Request Failed (Code 43 I sold it to someone with a T-Mobile rom and N7100 clockworkrecovery. They updated clockworkrecovery and now the phone just boots into recovery and then restarts. I cannot get the phone to connect to the computer at all. I get an error. I have tried talking with support but they tell me to try everything that I have already done, such as; different usb ports, cords, computers, had the usb port replaced, reinstalling software (all of them), and restarting download mode.
any development?
I have the same problem, device descriptor request failed.
Luckily, im not bricking the phone yet.
Nothing

Some search on google told me that we need to fix the usb pin.
Im not yet trying it. Im afraid it will cause another problem. So i leave the phone as it. Even though i cant do anything to update the phone. (Maybe i do have change to update the phone, but it will take a risk)
Try to fix your usb port pin.
On the phone? I had the pins on the USB port replaced and I bought a new USB port from China with no help. I also tried 5 different computers (both mac and pc) as well as different oem USB cords.

[Q] USB Device Not Recognized in Download Mode HELP!!

Hi, I recently flash a CWM recovery and sadly it is not booting, just blue screen. So I decided to restock my gio using ODIN. So I turn it off, Boot to download mode and connect it to the PC, and then it says "USB Device Not Recognized".
What I already did:
- Use different PCs
- Use different USB cables
- Try to boot to Emergency DLoad Mode, but sadly can't flashed through Odin
Help me guys, I love this phone, I won't let this phone die. :crying:

[Q] Can't connect to ODIN after 4.3.3 update!

I upgraded from Stock 4.1.2 to Stock 4.3.3 (L900VPUBMK4) today. I did this via ODIN3 v3.09. Not my first time flashing a device. Not my first time with Odin. It upgraded no problem. Package installed, phone rebooted, on boot the package completed installation, rebooted again, and then came up shiny new 4.3.3.
Next step, of course, was to re-root. I went back into Download Mode, opened up Odin, plugged back in the phone, and NOTHING. It wouldn't connect to Odin. Mind you, this is the same Computer, Drivers, Cable, and Odin that I'd used 10 minutes beforehand and several times in the past.
I don't get it! I've tried re-installing my Samsung drivers, just for fun. I tried another cable. Also, when the phone's booted up in normal mode, the phone connects fine to the computer as a Media Device. I can't make this sucker connect to Download Mode all of a sudden!
ANY IDEAS?! Sure would appreciate it!
-Frif
Additional info
Not trying to bump (but glad).
Still no luck. Tried another computer.
Additional info:
My Download Mode reads:
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME: SPH-L900
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: Yes (1 counts)
CURRENT BINARY: Samsung Official
SYSTEM STATUS: Official
KNOX WARRANTY VOID: 0
RP SWREV: A2
Use a different port and a different cable. Reboot the phone into download mode, connect it to the computer, then load Odin. I've had issues where if i loaded Odin before connecting to the phone it wouldn't find a connection.

No such luck. Still getting absolutely nothing out of Odin.
Is there ANYTHING I can maybe flash in Stock Recovery to get me anywhere?
I should also mention there's no USB connect/disconnect sound coming from the computer when in Download Mode. Although I can't remember if that's normal or not.
How are you getting into download mode? If you're using the 3 button salute, try adb reboot download in recovery (and vice versa).

Thanks.
I did it 3-button. I don't have that option in Stock Recovery. All I have is:
reboot system now
apply update from ADB
apply update from external storage
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
apply update from cache
Is there a way? Or maybe is there some way to get TWRP installed without Odin somehow?
Debug Mode?
Hey I was thinking about Debug Mode. I didn't think it would affect Download Mode, but I figured I'd try it.

I can't find it at all in 4.3.3.

Well, I found Debug Mode. For those interested, it's hidden in 4.3. Go to About Phone, then tap Build Number a bunch of times until it opens up Dev Options.
Anyway... Still no luck. In USB Debug Mode, in Download Mode, Odin still doesn't see the device.
Different cable. When flashing phones (using Odin, QPST, DFS, CDMA WS, etc.) I ALWAYS use the OFFICIAL HTC usb cable. It works with every phone that has a micro USB port (duh) and it's NEVER given me any problems. I'm sure the same can be said for other brand name cables, but I stick with what I know. Try a different cable. My generic China cable will do EVERYTHING...except get a COM port in Odin.
If this doesn't work, your charging port might be boned. It's possible a single pin may be damaged, preventing a data connection.
YES!

Maybe it IS my cables!!?!?!!?! TWO of them!
So! I just uninstalled my drivers again and reinstalled them. Still no luck. So I got super-frustrated and just started plugging and unplugging into different USB ports. All of a sudden, I got back to my "normal" port and heard the USB connect sound!!?!?! Then the drivers re-installed, then Odin connected!
I installed CF-Auto-Root! My phone's still not rooted, and I don't know why yet. But at least now I have options!
THANKS TO ALL THAT STOPPED BY TO HELP!!!

It's been just me and you in this thread buddy lol. Don't use CF auto root. It doesn't work for MK4. Use Kingoroot (you can google it and find the program). It looks like an iffy program but it seems like some kind of multiroot and from what I can tell, it's very credible. Just put your phone into MTP+ADB (USB Debugging) and start the program. After a few minutes, your device will be rooted. Couldn't be easier.
