My elephone p8000 take often edge signal, mostly when I'm at home, but with my lg g2 I usually take 3g and 4g signal. Is there a way to increase signal, maybe flashing a different modem? I'm vodafone and live in Italy
same here, in tests I did read that the phone has neither a special bad nor good signal strength, but in my opinion it is quite bad.
Not sure whether or not that might be hardware related?
At least my Nexus 5, Note3 and Moto G do have a lot better signal strength
It's the same for me, my lg g2 have a better signal than p8000
signal strength
hi there,
the radio antenna that they put in the phone isnt the best i think, the price for the phone shouldnt be the indecator but i think the antenna is just a poor one
you can try to increase it with smthing like this: youtube.com/watch?v=9eI120yQzpk

As to signal strength, I do not experience any significant difference compared to my TYTN2. And my provider has some weak spots in the surrounding of where I live, so I have been able to test the signal strength under various conditions. Where it comes to quality, the TP2/Rhodium is significantly better (at least on my side of the call).
Cheers, Dela
I definitely find the signal much weaker on my TP2 than I did with my tytnII.
Also lots of (related, I guess) problems with it switching between 3g/H and G - get the "cannot connect" message too much.
Never having done much ROM stuff, will this be bettered with the new ROMs that will come after Hard SPL?

same here. Actually seems better than the HD for me
Actually I have batt problems with a specific operator. The batt wont last even a full day with Vivo. Buit with other operators, a day and a half easy.
I think it is signal related.
my signal is very weak as well. i have compared my new TP2 to my old S710. I get 3 bars on my old one as opposed to 1 bar on my new high dollar phone.
What can I do to make my signal stronger in my TP2? I have called Tmobile. They have troubleshot with me, checked the tower, etc. I truly think it is phone related. HELP!!
I am tired of dropped calls.
I find the signal on mine slightly better than my TyTN II or at worst at Par with the TyTN II. Does anyone ever get that chequerd 'H'? what does it mean? I am guessing it means a week HSDPA signal since I only get it when there are no signal bars.
My signal isn't as good as before (Tytn II on t-mobile)...
I'm still on t-mob but HSDPA connections and general reception indoors isn't as good as it was...
since there were mods to overclock cpu and even underclock the voltage to the screen of my atrix i was wondering if it would be possible to overclock the voltage of the galaxy nexus radio to give better reception? this would be a great mod for this phone since it does have a pretty weak radio. i've aready tried flashing all the gsm radio but none made any major difference. the reception on this phone is seriously lacking when in a low reception area compared to my atrix, even my LG optimus p500 gets better reception.
The phone does this automatically when you have low signal. And it destroys your battery.

it doesnt do it very well then. i live in a low reception area so i usually look for a phone with a good radio. most phones that i've used didnt have a problem with my area i just didnt get a full signal strength but the galaxy nexus is constantly switching between 2g and 3g. i also see that my time without signal is around 20%. Time without signal on my atrix and P500 is 0 in the exact same area using the same network.
always switching between 2g/3g and dropping and reacquire the network kills the battery too so i would rather destroy my battery and have good reception than destroy my battery with low reception. im sure there are others with my problem and wouldnt mind using a little extra battery juice for this.
Use an app like Tasker or Llama to switch your phone to 2g when at home. Then it won't spend all it's time searching and getting nothing 20% of the time.
You can try the newer bootloader if all else fails.

You're not understanding. When the phone is dropping between 2G and 3G it is only acquiring 3G because it is pushing more power to the radio. You won't get a different result.

I really feel that a small detail needs to be pointed out:
over/under-clocking - relates to the CLOCK speed - expressed in MHz (megahertz)
over/under-volting - relates to the VOLTAGE used - expressed in mV (millivolts)
The two terms should not be interchanged, as they are quite different. You can't overclock a voltage anymore than you could undervolt a frequency.

After flashing a north American radio I can say that I was quite surprised at how much better reception became. Don't forget that the atrix is a branded phone. The reason I mention this is you might be in a congested area. Saturated with iphones. Iphones get preferential treatment on atnt's network and I wouldn't be surprised if "4g" branded phones get priority over unlocked phones. The proof for me was during the holidays last year. Congestion was gone so reception and speeds were phenomenal compared to what I am used to. My expectations are realistic, so I am satisfied with how well nexus does. I am not satisfied with atnt's business practices, policies and customer service though. Atnt could do a lot better.

I live in an area of weak signal strenght and got G3 as an upadte to my htc M7. G3 has problem maintainig network connection. On my M7 I always get 1 or 2 bars, but G3 will not discover network signal most of the time, even outdoors. Even my wifes old Iphone G3 will get 2 bars constant. We are on the same carrier.
I have found that thread and it doesn/t sound to promising. Well I think my G3 is going back on monday, maybe will try another one, but I don't promise my self much. <_<
I read propably all new smartphones have weaker signal reception S5,G3,M8,Iphone6 beeing no exeption.
Some worth mentioning facts from the O2 thread:
unless you live in an outstanding area of high signal strength forget it.

It's a sad fact that anyone would reasonably expect top end smart phones to have equal signal strength in any given area. Sadly we find this isn't the case and it disappoints me that manufacturers don't concentrate on the primary function of a phone. Shame!

does not give me high hopes for new smart(crappy signal receiving)phones, does it? Wonder how Iphone6 is doing in that field? Ha this thread somewhat answers that question.
If you live in a week carrier signal area post your comments, comparisions here. Thx.

@ mobile reception: we could only wait and hope LG will update modem firmware anytime to solve bad reception.
at worst it could maybe be a bad hardware design, so it is possible we will never get better reception.
i`m in the same boat. sometimes i think about switching to another device because i`m always the first with no (data) reception when i`m out with friends.
Same for me. On the same network, my Oppo Find 5 is way more reliable. I hope a better modem will be released soon (probably with Android L in December?).
And i'm thinking that i'm the only one... For me reception is worst than 100 dollars smartphones and is very unstable. Sometimes have full coverage and, without leave the same place, the reception goes to 1 network bar... Very disappointed. Love this phone but hate (a lot) signal reception.
So all the G3s are like that?
my reception is also weak compared to other mobiles. at the end of the day i check the batery status and have ~4% good signal ~10% moderate signal and 86% weak or unknown signal. and i think that a huge battery drain
Same here, but from what a knowledgeable tech guy who has experience developing for LG is that all of their devices handle data strength the same. Speed is not compromised for me at all and I never loose connection.

Can anyone who purchased the G4 coming from the G3 comment on how the phones reception is.. Is it better with calls and LTE? Thanks!
Never had issues with eithet
each phone of the same type can vary with signal. my wife and i both had a g3, sitting next to each other doing speed test. hers ways always faster by several Mbps, but mine would show a tad more on the signal strength.
now i have the g4, but have yet to compare, but signal seems to be pretty close to what the g3 was in the same areas.
I think they are very comparable. I don't have any scientific data, but I don't notice that I get LTE or better service in areas with either the G3 or G4, and speed tests are the same on both.
Idk about the g3, but compared to my s6, this phone's reception sucks. 2 bars with s6, 0.5 bars with the g4.

I would say similar, but I find the G4 as a bit better service while I'm in the usual spots I was with my G3

That's funny, I live in CA and I can from S6 edge. I loved that phone, I just prefer a larger screen, and my daughter wanted my edge so I got my g4. My reception is exceptionally better, and my Internet is so much quicker. I used to have to restart my edge a lot, it would almost come to a halt.
I thought since the chip in this was so much weaker, I'd notice it. It's been the opposite. Better. In everyway
Sent from my VS986 using Tapatalk
coming from a country with very unstable and fluctuative signal reception, i can say that G4 is ways better than G3 in terms of signal reception.
i got more reception in places where i never had reception back when i still got my G3

what weaker chip? the antenna chip is a separate component with the CPU. and it's not sooo much weaker!
Android authority did an interesting comparison between the G4,S6 and P8:
