Google Maps is working for me with GPS.
Navigon does not work saying "no gps available"
Hi,
I think google maps uses more than the GPS signal in order to find your phone. So that might be the reason for that?
Otherwise there exist GPS fix test - apps where you could verify whether or not your GPS signal is working

Hi,
I am having trouble with GPS on my desire since installing gingervillain. On both versions 1.4 and 1.5 GPS just doesn't seem to be working at all. I've tried a factory reset from the recovery menu and have tried re-applying the zip file but with no luck. GPS is enabled but I don't even get an icon on the status bar at the top when it is supposed to be searching for a signal.
Thanks,
Chris
Reach for the skies
Go outside of your house. Point your phone to the sky. Your position should should showing on your GPS.
Or it could be the program itself? Try different gps using apps like maps, facebook places etc etc.
Also do post what radio you're currently using on your phone. It could help people diagnose your problem better.
Tried outside and using gpstest off the market with no luck. I don't usually have any problem with gps inside my house anyway. I don't even get an icon in the status bar at the top it's like it's not working at all. And before anyone says yes it is switched on! My current version is:
32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27
Any help would be much appreciated!

You must have the worlds strongest GPS in your desire. In normal ones, you need to be outside with the phone pretty much able to see the sky. On top of that, ideally it will need to be a clear sky.
Turn on GPS, open up Google Maps / your Navigation software (while outside). On my phone it only used to show the GPS icon in the task bar when a program was running that could use it.
Alternatively download GPS tools from the market (I forget the exact name).
If your GPS is indeed stuffed, take your phone back (if its under warrantee).
My GPS died on my phone. Completely. And before that it kept rebooting the phone. Had to take it back.

Hi
very interested in this thread as my GPS worked fine until I installed Gingervillain 1.4 last week and then updating to 1.5 on Friday
Radio : 32.48.00.32U_5.11.05.14
I downgraded to GV 1.0 and my GPS was working ok again. I heard there was a known GPS problem fixed in GV 1.6 so I upgraded but the problem returned unfortunately. Any ideas?
Update the kernel with Villain set up, it cured my GPS problem.
GVChangelog:
Version 1.6:
* Fixed GPS problem (Thanks to CM Team)
+ kernel update defo works.

Hi,
Could you advise how I go about that? I thought the Kernel was updated as part of the gingervillain setup anyway?
Well I've had more fun with this! I just couldn't get GPS working on anything other than GV 1.0. I completely wiped my SD card and re-formatted the EXT3 partition. I then installed the stock RUU at which point GPS was predictably working. I then went through the flashing process of GV 1.6 and GPS was working this time. It was fine for a week or so but then the GPS stopped working again! I'm thinking it must be something to do with the dalvik cache now, that's the only reason I can think of for the GPS to stop working. I'm running out of patience with GV now so does anyone have suggestions for another stable 2.3 ROM I can move onto?
Thanks again,
Chris
Until few days back GPS was working like a charm.
Today I performed an upgrade of Google Maps to 5.9.
And GPS doesn't work!!! Searching and searching, not able to fix satellites!! Outside, sunny day...
Uninstalled upgrade, rebooted phone, reinstalled upgrade....
GPS doesn't work! On old and new version.
Any ideas what can cause that? Anybody experienced similar problems??!! What a disaster!
only in Google Maps or also in other apps (car dashboard etc)?

When I use Google search it doesn't work either.
I don't use apps with location but just checked with WeatherBug and apparently it doesn't work either!
GPS working fine here on .368 update using Maps 5.9
This is crazy but after second reboot it works again.
It's so strange!

If you don't use GPS that often, a fix can take a long while. I'd suggest a tool like GPS Test to see if it's picking up a signal and what the quality is like.
https://www.gstatic.com/android/market/com.chartcross.gpstest/ss-320-0-5
Those bars will tell you about the GPS signal. If GPS would not be working at all the bars would be completely flat. If you get some bars, it should be a matter of time.

Well thanks!!
I guess nobody needs 2 GPS test apps, but if you do then i can recommend GPS status.
hi guys,
need your help on this before i get mad and throw my gnex out of the window.
im experiencing great problems with gps fix on any offline gps navigator like copilot or sygic. The gps fix is hard to get and even when it works its really wiggly m it goes on and off continuously and soetimes it puts me kms away from where i really am. Annoying.
Im on aokp build 36 / franco kernel and already tried the gps fix (i used faster gps) setting the server to europe/italy but no luck so far.
Does the agps activate automatically with gps? how do u turn on barometer?
is there anyone who can spare an advice on this? maybe updating radio?
thanks in advance!
Try using an app like gps status to download agps data before you go offline? I guessing you can't get a GPS fix because you have no data connection...
I'm in Portugal and i've got the HTC Droid Incredible from Verizon, there's no CDMA network in Portugal, but my main problem is that i'm not able to use the GPS on my phone... anyone has any idea? i've tried several app's that work on my other phone but nothing works..
Is GPS even enabled in settings -> location settings? There should be a standalone GPS option on the Droid Incredible. If that's on then you can use GPS and maps data (need wifi for maps data though since you're not on CDMA).
Yeah, you should be able to use GPS with google maps after downloading some data for offline mode.
Make sure all of your location services are enabled on the phone, and make sure you have GAPPS installed, and then get Maps and Nav.
the trick with a wifi-only Dinc is that you have to map or nav your route BEFORE YOU LEAVE because you won't have the maps automatically updating over the CDMA network.
nothing
The thing is that, i simply can't, either way, not even full offline gps (Sygic) neither gps apps like GPS Status...

If no apps can use the gps and different roms dont solve the issue, then more than likley its a hardware failure of the gps chip.
