Flash kitkat ruu to stock lollipop - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can I flash through a computer an a ruu to my stock lollipop m8? I've done this before but with an s-off mobile.
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Tapatalk

Depends what ruu you need and if it's available. The given info is not enough to conclude if it's possible at all.
Post the outcome of :
Fastboot getvar all
Delete the IMEI and SERIAL before posting the list !

Nothing is for sure, can't give any good advice. Look up how to use fastboot commands. They are basically the rescue in situations when it goes wrong. There are many guides. Even via google there is lots to find

What is the name of the .exe you are trying to run?
If you are trying to setup fastboot/adb, try typing "simple adb" into the XDA site search, and you will get a few threads beginner tutorial threads containing easy, simple fastboot/adb installers.
But if the original question is "can you install a KitKat RUU on a stock Lollipop phone" the answer is NO unless you are s-off. Further, the RUU needs to be for your CID.

[WARNING] Flashing boot.img on S-ON devices

ROMs developers and ROMs users - be aware!
I know this thread doesn't contain any "created" thing, but it's quite important to let every developer here know, that their boot.img flashing commands in updater-script doesn't work with S-ON devices. We didn't realize it quickly because there are no custom kernels yet. But no matter if you use package_extract_file or write_raw_image or dd command - this wont work for most users here with just htcdev.com unlocked devices.
So the only solution for now is to download custom ROM, extract boot.img from inside it if developer didn't provide it separately (like I did) and flash it in fastboot mode using following command:
fastboot flash boot <boot_name.img>
f.g.
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash boot boot_2.0.0.img
etc...
Also keep in mind that fastboot flash is the only way to use custom boot.img because fastboot boot doesn't work yet either.
I really hope we'll get S-OFF possibility soon!
Very Good!
Thanks!
Thank you mike for being with us and guiding the development..what would it be without you!!!

There are some very lucky few people who just so happen to get a factory s-off device, it's very much possible. Just highly unlikely for most people.

So mike, please tell me, I have to flash this to my s-off device?
I had the same question because when I flashed the ROM it doesn't seem like changing the kernel name under about. Thanks for clearing that up.

Hmmm ... Seems like there is no change in name under Kernel version after flashing the kernel (fastboot flash boot boot.img). Is it that the developer hasn't changed the name of the kernel or is it not flashed properly?
What a pain to keep having to go to the computer to flash boot.img with every rom release. S-OFF needs to come sooner rather than later. Argh.

No, it's not as easy as that. He's just got the security flag set to off. We won't be able to push any different hboot's while we're S-ON. It's just a case of finding an exploit to push the security flag to off while getting around all the protection that is surrounding it.

As there are no customized kernels up to now, the devs have no reason to change name of the kernel. It's still stock kernel after all .

Mike, I guess this means nandroid restores won't work automatically either and the backed up boot.img will need to be pushed by fastboot.

Back to Manufacturer Kernel

I would like to reinstall Anroid 4.0.4 after uprading to Jelly Beans. I found the kernel source code here: http://www.htcdev.com/devcenter/downloads, and now I would like to install it.
The source code comes as a file called:
endeavoru-2.6.39-6b459dc.tar.gz
How do I go about installing the kernel? I have ClockWorkMod installed if that helps. I have noticed that the kernel does not come with a boot.img file etc, therefore do I need to compile it?
Please help if you can
Thanks
Zugz
Its not compiled, its just the code itself. You can't flash it just like that.

There's loads of returning to stock threads in this Q&A section, you're not the first to want to do it.
The boot.img is specific to the ROM version.
There is a sticky Endeavor Shipped ROM Collection thread with RUUs in the dev section, password for filefactory on page 173.

Each time I have had an error message saying it is the wrong version. Is there any preperation that I need to do.. e.g do I need to lock the bootloader again? etc
What's the exact error? Vodafone UK should have CID of VODAP001 if I recall, and the last RUU you tried should be correct.
Before you go too far, it will be worth grabbing your unlock code from htcdev.
To flash RUU will need to be locked:
fastboot oem lock
And you might need stock recovery
fastboot flash recovery signed_recovery.img
Hopefully that'll give you a decent starting point.

Looks like the zip is signed incorrectly. If you know what I mean by an md5 sum, check it corresponds to the one the developer lists. If you don't know what I mean by an md5 sum, then try to download the ROM again and flash the new download. Which ROM is it by the way?

Slightly out of my depth here, but go to the thread demkantor posted a few posts up and read carefully, it will be very informative.
Also you appear to be using stock Android recovery, I'm not certain this is a problem but just to make sure I would find out how to use fastboot to flash clockworkmod recovery. Just Google "flash clockworkmod recovery fast boot" or something along those lines... If you already have android SDK set up, etc. Which I assume you must have being as you're rooted, it shouldn't be too difficult.
Sorry this is about as much as I can help, I'm sure demkantor will be able to help you through anything more than this.

THIS THREAD will teach you how to use fastboot to do
various things such as flash a new recovery. problem is you dont have a bootloader with fastboot
capabilities, well at least not many. do you know how the phone was rooted? if it was
done using the gfree method than you can simply flash one of the PC10IMG.zips from
post 30 in the thread linked above (done via bootloader) if not it could be an issue to use do this.
you can only flash update.zips through the recovery you have now and they more than likely would need to be signed by htc. if you dont have a working os right now then
you may need to flash an ruu (one that matches your phone) let me know where you stand on all this

This will NOT work on a CDMA HTC One GSM ONLY!
PSA: People have been reporting not being able to flash back to sense. When investigating this further I found that the system partition on the GPE is about half the size of the sense system partition. (just over a gig compared to like 2.8) This was not the case on the M7
So as of now once you convert, YOU CAN NOT GO BACK TO A SENSE BASED ROM UNTIL A RUU is RELEASED! Rest assured nothing is wrong with the RUU. If you did convert and want to go back you just have to wait for a RUU to be released then you can go back but flashing a sense rom in recovery wont work.
This thread is NOT to support changing your MID, Changing your CID, Rooting or Flashing a custom recovery. If you need to learn how to do any of those do NOT use this thread to post in. Post in the respective dedicated threads to complete these processes. This thread is ONLY to support flashing the RUU. Nothing more, nothing less.
This is NOT a general 4.4.2 discussion thread.
Furthermore, if you need any more detailed instructions than what's stated in this post then you really shouldn't be doing this to your device. If you need a "video" or ask for "step by step" instructions you will NOT get anything more than what's in this post (at least from me). There is no easier way to do this process, there is no easier way to explain it. If you read the post and still don't understand what to do then I advise you to leave your phone alone... Read and then read some more until you understand everything.. WE WILL NOT SPOON FEED YOU IN THIS THREAD!
This procedure is not easy and is not really noob friendly, well flashing the RUU is not really difficult but it's the prerequisites that are more complex/risky. If the instructions aren't clear enough for you or you require further hand holding then I'm sure most of us would advise you stay away from the process.
Also, please do not PM me for support. PM's will not be answered. Post it in the thread. It helps other's having the same issue find a solution. If it's over PM it only benefits you and not everyone else
Prerequisites
S-Off,
ADB knowledge

This will wipe EVERYTHING INCLUDING YOUR INTERNAL SD CARD!!!! so make sure you back up the contents before running this, but you'll end up with a factory-fresh GE. Of course, there's still no support, warranty or responsibility implied or otherwise.
The 4.4.2 RUU Zip supports the following MIDs and CIDs if your MID or CID is not in this list you will have to modify the android-info.txt file in the zip to match your MID/CID
modelid: 0P6B12000

cidnum: 11111111
cidnum: T-MOB010
cidnum: CWS__001
cidnum: BS_US001
cidnum: GOOGL001
(please note.. If your model id or cid is not supported you can open up the android-info.txt file that's in the zip and replace one of the model ids or cids listed to match yours.)
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
Code:

Just keep in mind.. as of now.. once you convert you can't go back until a sense RUU is released due to the different system partition sizes between the gpe and the sense versions. You can however run the GPE rom I posted on a sense version as it was deved on a sense version with the correct partition size for a sense version

Flashing the ROM now...but I had trouble getting it to flash. I had to rename the ROM then it worked.
I just had to modify what I had to type in to move and flash the RUU file, other then that, everything is going good...so.far... **knocks on wood**
**EDIT**
Just completed my conversion, ended up having to Frankenstein this together by reading up stuff on a lot of different threads (and for some reason Samsung drivers work for the HTC One M8) everything is going great!
Can anyone get the stock HTC gallery app to work? I can't get it from the Play Store, but I managed to install the apk but it says that my device isn't authorized

Have you tried flashing a firmware.zip by naming it 0P6BIMG.zip and putting it on the root of SD, and you the flashing process is done see if you can get into stock recovery. If that works then you can try flashing TWRP and see if it sticks.

first of all you've posted this in the wrong section.
post right section you'll get better answers. but they will need more detail how did it get like this what was you doing at the time as it looks like your boot loader is locked but you've tampered with the firmware or recovery so what exactly have you done?

nooooo do not do this as you bootloader says your s-on so this is likely not to work and may damage your device.

"To anyone that is S-OFF and wanting to flash firmware I have a safe, quick, and pain free way that I have tested many times on my m7_ul_ca that works flawlessly!"

dw man happens to us all :good:
anway i think you need help from some experts and in right section i did a similar thing last month except managed to have a custom recovery and unlocked bootloader
I recon your best bet is to try and unlock your bootloader again have you tried reinstalling/manually installing the drivers on your computer? also does it make a sound when you plug it in? and what happens if you select hBoot?
Was you trying to return to stock when this happened?

considering your version of hboot I don't think firewater will work which means you would need to use sunshine which costs money...
You would also need to be within you system(Android) and be rooted so at the moment best thing to concentrate on is getting your device a recovery / get it to connect to a PC
If you can get your Device to show up in ADB your chances of recovering it get a lot higher

You need to use firewater s-off or if that one does not work for you sunshine s-off works but cost $25 dollars.
The issue your going to have is you can't boot at all and you said fastboot commands not working. Are you sure you have the correct fastboot and adb files in the folder your connected to?

What did you do to get your phone to this point? I need to know what you tried to do to get a better idea of how to fix it. You said the phone won't boot or go into recovery I need to figure out why so I need to know what you did.
I think your fastboot setup is wrong that's why fastboot is not working what are you typing in terminal from start to when it fails.

OK... this is what I can understand.
You relocked the bootloader for some reason then you unable to boot the phone anymore and when you try to enter recovery, it boots to bootloader again. All fastboot command doesn't work.
Now ... do you still have the unlock_code.bin with you ? You need to re unlock the bootloader then other fastboot command will work like fastboot flash recovery recovery.img and etc.
