Back to Manufacturer Kernel - HTC One X

I would like to reinstall Anroid 4.0.4 after uprading to Jelly Beans. I found the kernel source code here: http://www.htcdev.com/devcenter/downloads, and now I would like to install it.
The source code comes as a file called:
endeavoru-2.6.39-6b459dc.tar.gz
How do I go about installing the kernel? I have ClockWorkMod installed if that helps. I have noticed that the kernel does not come with a boot.img file etc, therefore do I need to compile it?
Please help if you can
Thanks
Zugz

Its not compiled, its just the code itself. You can't flash it just like that.

How do I go about compiling the source code then?

Don't. Just find the stock boot.img somewhere. Or, easier, flash the whole RUU.

Thanks
Thanks, do you know where I might find the One X stock or RUU?

There's loads of returning to stock threads in this Q&A section, you're not the first to want to do it.
The boot.img is specific to the ROM version.
There is a sticky Endeavor Shipped ROM Collection thread with RUUs in the dev section, password for filefactory on page 173.

I have tried installing
RUU_ENDEAVOR_U_ICS_40_Vodafone_AT_1.26.169.2_Radio_1.1204.90.13_release_251280_signed.exe
RUU_ENDEAVOR_U_ICS_40_HTC_Europe_1.29.401.12_Radio_2.1204.127.19_release_271851_signed.exe
RUU_ENDEAVOR_U_ICS_40_Vodafone_UK_1.29.161.13_Radio_1.1204.105.14_release_264070_signed.exe
Each time I have had an error message saying it is the wrong version. Is there any preperation that I need to do.. e.g do I need to lock the bootloader again? etc

What's the exact error? Vodafone UK should have CID of VODAP001 if I recall, and the last RUU you tried should be correct.
Before you go too far, it will be worth grabbing your unlock code from htcdev.
To flash RUU will need to be locked:
fastboot oem lock
And you might need stock recovery
fastboot flash recovery signed_recovery.img
Hopefully that'll give you a decent starting point.

Hi again
The error message is:
Error [131]: Customer ID Error
THE ROM UPDATE UTILITY CANNOT UPDATE YOUR ANDROID PHONE.
PLEASE GET THE CORRECT ROM UTILITY AND TRY AGAIN.
Customer ID Error? What does that mean?

Zugz, btw thank you so much for your help. Btw, my phone is locked now, but also there is no OS on it!!!

You need the android SDK. I can't remember everything off the top of my head, use what I say as a basis for searching this forum and you shall find.
Edit: no you won't (fscking autocorrect)

My One X Plagued With "Unfortunately The Process com.EVERYTHING Has Stopped" Messages
A few weeks ago my One X started giving me stopped process error messages for, well, for everything. Within 5 minutes of booting the phone up, everything would start stopping. gapps, acore, htc.bg launcher, browser, exchange...everything.
This was on my carrier's stock, ICS ROM, but, since then I've tried a custom JellyBean ROM that I found here. The problem is exactly the same, so I guess it's something deeper....
I've tried factory resets, I've tried with and without a google account linked (as I've read that can be a problem sometimes)....I've cleared cache partition and Dalvik cache....what else can I do?
Is there a "nuclear" option, that's even more intensive a wipe than a "factory reset"?
What else can I try?
Try ARHD 7.2 its basically a stock Rom were as jellybean is a ported version with not much working first I would sugguest flashing back to stock choosing the RUU from your country after your completely stock check for updates then go in bootloader and restore device factory settings don't install any apps until your sure the problem has gone if your still getting problems I would return for repair or replacement

Erk....I'm stuck.
I downloaded a zip full of stock ROMs (One_X_1.26.114.3_odexed.zip), but I don't know what to do to get just the bits I need from it.
Having done "fastboot oem readcid", I know that I need ORANG001 stock ROM, but not sure how to "cook" it. Or even if I need to.
These are the instructions I'm trying to follow, but it's the "extracted and cooked from right RUU" bit that has flummoxed me....I've looked around for the answer, but can't find a thread that doesn't assume a level of pre-knowledge (or intelligence) that I don't have
Install stock rom of your CID
-fastboot oem readcid (to know your CID)
-all roms are based on x.xx.401.xx , so you need to download the right RUU(that matches your CID) and extract rom.zip to cook a stock rom for you
-flash custom stock rom(extracted and cooked from right RUU) on custom recovery
-fastboot flash boot c:\boot.img (flash stock kernel that's inside custom stock rom boot.img file)
RElock the bootloader (you can allways unlock)
-fastboot oem lock
Right RUU file for your CID
-put your phone on fastboot (it will not boot because you have a custom rom on a locked bootloader)
-now you can run the RUU exe file and upgrade your phone

Once I've got the stock ROM bit sorted, I think I'll be okay with the rest! (famous last words)
It tells you to download stock Rom matching your cid then extract it on pc (winRAR) you should get 2 folders one is the boot.IMG and the other is the Rom copy the Rom xxxx.zip to your phone and flash in cwm recovery then fastboot boot.IMG. That's it before updating your phone check stock Rom if its fixed your issues just whack arhd or some think stock based there more reliable

Okay, thanks, I get that bit now. But I don't know how to tell which ROM matches my CID...
I've googled phrases like "ORANG001 stock RUU" etc, but every thread seems to lead to a different
Is it likely to be this (for ORANG001): RUU_ENDEAVOR_U_ICS_40_Orange_UK_1.28.061.9_Radio_1.1204.103.14_...?
The actual flashing, etc, I'm comfortable with...it's just finding the right thing to flash that is doing my head in.

Slightly out of my depth here, but go to the thread demkantor posted a few posts up and read carefully, it will be very informative.
Also you appear to be using stock Android recovery, I'm not certain this is a problem but just to make sure I would find out how to use fastboot to flash clockworkmod recovery. Just Google "flash clockworkmod recovery fast boot" or something along those lines... If you already have android SDK set up, etc. Which I assume you must have being as you're rooted, it shouldn't be too difficult.
Sorry this is about as much as I can help, I'm sure demkantor will be able to help you through anything more than this.

THIS THREAD will teach you how to use fastboot to do
various things such as flash a new recovery. problem is you dont have a bootloader with fastboot
capabilities, well at least not many. do you know how the phone was rooted? if it was
done using the gfree method than you can simply flash one of the PC10IMG.zips from
post 30 in the thread linked above (done via bootloader) if not it could be an issue to use do this.
you can only flash update.zips through the recovery you have now and they more than likely would need to be signed by htc. if you dont have a working os right now then
you may need to flash an ruu (one that matches your phone) let me know where you stand on all this

[Q] Can't return to stock with RUU. Help?

Hello all,
My wife has the Virgin Mobile version (CDMA) HTC One V. She wanted me to install a new ROM for her. I've had ROMs on it before, but she got the OTA from Virgin Mobile and didn't tell me. Well I've been trying to put all sorts of different ROMs on it, and everyone has had the bootloop bug. I traced it down to the radio being updated to 1.00.00.0928. I've found posts saying to get the RUU, extract the rom.zip and rename it to PK76IMG then put that in the root of the SD card, then let HBOOT take care of it. It fails every time. Flashing recovery_signed.img and then running the RUU also fails. Well, come to find out my HBOOT version is 1.57 and as far as I can tell I'm screwed.
Am I screwed guys? I mean do I have any options in getting a working phone out of this? I'd be happy just to get it back to stock, but at this point it's looking like I have a nice paperweight that lights up.
If there is any help or info you guys could give me I'd be very appreciative. Thanks in advance.

start the ruu on windows, before pressing any buttons, start a search window.. in the top of the search window ( like you are going to type a www. address) type %temp% and hit enter. on the top of the search, you will see two folders that have many nunbers and letters for the name. in one of them you will find a "rom" zip extract it and inside you will find recovery_signed.img. put it in your fastboot folder
put your phone in fastboot and fastboot flash recovery recovery_signed.img
now run the ruu utility

Thanks for the reply. Sadly, I've already tried that. Same sort of error. It gets through the signature check and then when it reaches the HBOOT part of the installation it gives me the error saying I have the incorrect version of the RUU, but I'm using the same RUU I've used in the past with no issues.
I really don't have a good answer. Maybe try one of the new ion kernel ROMs that support the new radio
phone: HTC EVO 3d flashed to cricket
H-Boot: Jbear 1.50
ROM: Dirty Unicorns
phone: HTC one v cricket
rooted and romed

Hello all,
My wife has the Virgin Mobile version (CDMA) HTC One V.

Before you RUU back to stock make sure you relock your bootloader by fastboot oem lock then go back go fastboot and launch the RUU

There was just another ota on virgin other than the new radio one...it may be the cause of the problem. Crappy part is it adds nothing, just have to stick with beyond's or Simon's codefirex. Also someone just uploaded a kernel that works with the new radio for myone, I highly recommend it.

Also if you want to return you need to relock the phone (as said before) flash back the stock recovery (you did that) AND flash back the ORIGINAL kernel (nobody said that but this is needed too).
You can get the stock kernel from the RUU you have downloaded the same way as the recovery image. Search for the boot.img or boot_signed.img and of course flash it from fastboot mode.
Try it, hopefully it will work.

I don't think u need to flash the original kernel just the recovery as the RUU installs the original kernel for you

I know you have to relock... I've flashed the ruu at least 3 times on mine and my sister's I was just saying because there is another ota update, not just the one updating the radio. But another one after as well that comes with this sprint 4g message. I'll try and downgrade again for the sake of curiosity. I'll get back to you guys soon.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys, but I'm still unable to get it back to stock. The HBOOT in the RUU is older than the one on the phone so it won't allow the RUU to work.
Is there a way to rollback/downgrade the HBOOT?

Yes, so your hboot and radio are updated
is this the ruu you used?

That's the ruu I usually use, and I can confirm...after the latest ota on virgin you won't be able to downgrade back. It updates the hboot.

It wouldn't be too bad if we could get Simon's radio fix on every kernel, the data speeds are noticeably faster with the otas so I don't mind much.

Yeah that's the one. Unless I'm mistaken it's the only one available to download.
Same Problem
Nothing substantial to add. Just wanted to say that I'm experiencing the exact same problem. I've got the CDMA HTC One V that I flashed with the latest RhythmicROM. It booted up fine but quickly manifested the boot loop. I tried restoring to my CWM backup, but that gets stuck in the boot loop too (does that sound right?) I followed the instructions in the "ROM Randomly Rebooting?" thread in the General Forum, but encountered the same error when trying to run the RUU. I used the following RUU: (RUU_PRIMO_C_ICS_40A_Sprint_WWE_VM_1.08.652.6_Radio _1.00.00.0521_2_NV_VM_3.46_0503_PRL61008_release_2 62414_signed.exe). I have the updated radio (updated to 1.00.00.0928), and the updated HBOOT (1.57).
A couple people have mentioned ROMs that support the new radio. Can someone let us know exactly which ones those are?
Thanks!
Edit:
Just noticed that the RhythmicROM does say it has support for the new radio. I didn't add that up until just now. I'm hoping that it will work.
Edit 2:
I was able to get the Rhythmic ROM working successfully with the OTA Fix that is listed and linked to in his thread. The OTA_fix.zip file contains an updated version of boot.img that I flashed (using fastboot) after installing the ROM.
Simon's and beyond's codefirex both work, as does the cdma myone. It just depends on the kernel you can use for the rom. Most devs started using Simon's fix so we should be pretty good moving forward.

So I've been trying some of the ROMs and kernels you guys suggested. They boot into Android and I get a popup that says Android is updating... optimizing file 1 of 394 or whatever... It gets through a few of those and reboots. I let it go all the way through until there were no more files that needed to be optimized and... reboots endlessly.

[Q] HTC One X update hboot CID HTCCN701

Hello everyone,
I have an international HTC One X with CID HTCCN701, and I would like to install CM10.1.
I am not a noob , and I have already installed a Jelly Bean ROM after unlocking. However, I am currently on hboot version 1.12 S-ON Unlocked, and I could not find a hboot that is for my CID which fits the requirements (Version 1.28 or higher)
Moreover, though I know how to flash hboot, it would be great if anyone can provide a method to update hboot without changing the present ROM, recovery, and data on the device.
Thank you!
P.S. Please do not tell me to search; I cannot find a firmware here for HTCCN701
Does anyone have a solution?
Check for a newer hboot here

Thanks, but I already checked it, and I cannot locate HTCCN701

Is there 1.29 boot RUU for your device?
Or try this method, get back to stock with stock recovery, relock your bootloader then check for updates and update your device, and checl your bootloader version.

Hello everyone,
I have found a new firmware.zip for my phone.
However, because it looks suspicious, would someone please tell me how to verify if the zip is indeed real? (Not edited)

try to install it, if it fails to pass htc sig and cid check, it wont do any harm
Yes, I think there is 1.29 RUU, but isn't the hboot contained in it not up to date?
And, I have already checked for updates when I was on stock ROM back in mid June.

Thanks, but are you sure it will just refuse to flash if it is a fake? Because I saw on the forums that if a wrong firmware is flashed, the device could be bricked.
Another question is that is it possible to upgrade hboot without modifying system and data?

You would need s-off for it to flash if it's fake and upgrading the hboot doesn't wipe system or data , although unlocking the boot loader does
