[Q] 5X "jagged" screen display - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Something I've noticed when I'm in Chrome on a site with a white background. If I look all the way to the far right edge of the display, the white page looks jagged, like instead of a smooth line between the white of the page and the black edge of the display, the black is irregularly shaped. It's not a hardware issue, if I scroll the page the jaggedness scrolls too. Anyone else see this?

Software bug in Chrome. If you look at the card in your recents menu you will see it there too.

Another form of banding. Can you replicate?

Set wallpaper to black or go to a pure black screen with no icons on it. Bring up the "recent apps" and clear it out so that the overlay is blank. I notice heavy banding when the app is brought up over a pure black screen. Anyone else notice this?
it's hard to notice in a lighted room. go into a very dark room and you should see what I am talking about.
I've noticed this on transparencies. Could be a low quality image they used. Google has been known to limit the colors available to specific apps. Gallery and the Browser usually display crappy gradients. Perhaps this is another form of lowering the image quality so it loads faster.
As far as what your talking about, yes I can replicate it. Horizontal "sections" about equal distance apart. Hardly noticeable. I have to turn the lights off to really see it.
As long as the screen looks amazing when I'm using it and not in a dark room at weird brightnesses, I'm happy. This screen is super vibrant and bright. Who cares about a little banding on an almost black transparency that is requires a pitch black room to see.

Dots on screen

On your phone, open this YouTube url: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gIA_4nV-CqE
Pause it within the first 3 seconds on the red screen. Make the video full screen. Look closely at the display, do you notice a grid of dots on your screen? Whenever I have something with a red background, I always notice black small dots (like a grid) on the screen... Does your phone have this?

Display getting darker when scrolling

Hello!
I recently got the Arc S and I love it, but there's something about the screen that freaks me out. It's hard to describe, but let me try.
When I scroll through menus, objects get darker while they move. Most notibly when there's white text on black background. I don't know many of you know it, but it's like applying the "inner shadow" filter to the fonts in photoshop.
I made a video to demonstrate that: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VVRTmsr6Ppg
Hopefully you can see the effect on the text, but it's very noticable that the lines between the items disappear while scrolling.
While on a grey background, text appears yellowish while scrolling.
I get a similar effect when I scroll through pictures.
Other than that, the screen is perfectly fine. I have a Neo V here with the same rom and kernel and there is nothing like that.
Or is this just normal screen behaviour I have to get used to?
What rom are you on?
Sent from my LT15i using birds.
if you look clearly at the screen, it is not getting darker! just the lines between the selectable touch fields are getting darker. dont know why but this problem is on all roms i have tested. it happens at small text and very small lines (1-2 pixel lines i think)
@TheHaso
Super Jelly Bean, Slim Bean, Ultimate HD.. It doesn't seem to matter.
@om22
So you think this is a software issue?
I noticed when I scroll through small turqoise text, it clearly gets darker and shifts into a more blue-ish tone.

no i think this is normal on tn-panel lcd screens (our arc/s). just a dark blurring effect i think.
If you want to get some information about TN displays vs IPS etc just follow the link:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liquid_crystal_display#Twisted_nematic_.28TN.29
it's normal. only the lines get darker and not the text. this is how android makes it. try to increase the brightness and you will see that the lines gets a little darker.
But this effect does not happen at all on the Neo V.
And of course the text is getting darker, too. As I said, on black background a turquoise text shifts to blue while scrolling.

maybe because the neo v has built in another display? Our display also is very blurry in my opinion (high response time)

Samsung Galaxy Nexus - Blue Line on Screen Edges Issue

Greetings,
I just purchased my Samsung Galaxy Nexus but I noticed after some months of use, some strange blue lines that appears only on blue, grey or specially light colors as white backgrounds. I am very upset since I bought this good cellphone but noticed the screen issue. People told me that those blue lines where just a software problem but the thing is that I recently upgraded from 4.2 JellyBean to 4.4 KitKat and those annoying lines still appear on specific backgrounds. I forgot to mention that those blue lines appear in full-screen mode where the notification and the digital buttons bar are when they hide while in that mode, for example: when playing games, visualizing text or images, watching videos on Youtube (all of it in full-screen mode). You got the idea, right? Its like when the full-screen mode is on and the functional bars of the Nexus fade, it is supposed to be the same color as the whole background, but not; it appears like a tone of blue instead. This has nothing to do with the camera by the way.
I now think that the issue is related to some problem with the screen and hardware. I don't really want to replace the whole screen with a new one since Nexus screens are very expensive. I can't claim a warranty as well.
So, the questions are:
¿Does anybody have or have had the exact or similar issue as me?
¿Can someone please explain me what's going on and give me a solution?
I will leave few images bellow where the blue line is more visible:
1st Picture: When Youtube is loading the video, the notification and digital-button bar are gonna fade to play the video in full-screen mode.
2nd Picture: While the video is playing in full-screen mode, on the edge of the screen where previously was the notification bar, the blue line appeared, you can see it easily.
3rd picture: While reading any type of text or viewing a picture in full-screen mode where the notification and digital-buttons bar fade, the blue line appears again and its very easy to see it.
4th Image: This case is different, on a background with dark blue and black colors, there is some blue tint effect that is slightly notorious, the picture taken from the camera doesn't show it very well.

Yeah dude, it really sucks and its kinda annoying when watching videos or reading something. Google should make something about it on future cellphones!
If you fix it or at least reduce the blue shadow a little please notice me, I am very upset about it. :crying:
My „blue lines” appeared after I dropped the phone
Seems like standard Galaxy Nexus AMOLED burn-in. Try something like this but dont expect too much.
Screen burn in. I have it too. There's no fixing it on an AMOLED display without replacing the screen. This is my first and last device I will buy with AMOLED.

Watch can't replicate greys

Hi all,
So I've had my Smart Watch 3 for a while now and overall it's great. There's just one thing that's doing my head in... Any screen that uses grey as a background displays in brown... It's not nice at all. True blacks are fine, but any shade of grey is looking awful...
Here's a screenshot from the device and a photo of the same screen:
I can't post external images so now I can't show my problem... Is there another way of showing my problem?
Well, to show the problem, you could link to an image on Google docs or something. As for fixing it, that is a tall order.
It's a tradeoff of the Trans reflective screen. I'll take being able to see the screen without Backlight.
Indeed.
