Hi,
I am planning to partition my standard 4GB SD Card that comes with the Desire and reserve 512Mb for apps, I have the WWE Unbranded Stock Froyo 2.2.1 ROM and was wondering what tool is the best way of partitioning.
I have heard ROMmanager is the easiest way, but I do not know what extentsion to choose, Can someone help me?
Thank you.
You can either use Gparted or MiniTool Partitioner (both do the job) or you can do it via recovery (i suggest AmonRa).
You can find tut's on both mentioned applications here on xda or YT.
rom manager is the easiest but not the fastest partition setup.. i suggest gparted. create the boot disc and u have it for whenever u need it

The extensions would be best if you folow instuction and recomandations of the rom you are about to flash. not all are the same.
Thank you all for your reply's. I have standard stock 2.2 ROM as mentioned with ClockworkMod.
I can't get hold of Linux atm, so GParted is out of the question. Also I want to know what extension is best suited for my rom and card.
Many Thanks.
Sorry, need quick reply. Thanks.
Why to get hold of linux?
Download Gparted from their website: http://gparted.sourceforge.net/download.php

Okay thank you, but I unable to burn anything on a disk atm, so What other good alternatives are there?
And What is the best 'extended filesystem' would you recommend for my rom?
Sorry for double post. I have just read somewhere that partitioning SD Card for my ROM is useless as it won't detect it as an internal memory or something like that.
Could someone tell me a latest Fresh Stock Rom that has been modified in anyway and has the Data2SD/Apps2SD capability? Starburst?
Thank you!
I am a bit noob so go easy on me...
I have my wildfire rooted and wit CMD 7.1 RC but i whant to try other ROMS. The one I want is RUYMANCA 7.2.
In his post he talks about partitioning but i don't really understand how this should be done.
Do i do it after flashing or before?
Does the "a2sd" command does this automatically?
How can I do it?
Can someone give me a small step-by-step?
Thanks in advance
Partitioning is necessary only if you want to use apps2sd scripts.
You can do it from the rom manager or from the recovery. Or you can use pc utilities like "gparted live cd" to partition your memory card.
Sent from my Blade using XDA App
And to complement Bharat: it is not necessairy to install a2sd. It is a script that makes an ext-partition on your sdcard that can be used as an extention of the internal memory. So android will act as if its internal memory is expanded. This is usefull because really all apps can be put on the sd-card. Drawback is of course that your sdcard capacity will be less.
If you ever want to do that, you can easely partition your sdcard from the "advanced" menu in clockworkmod recovery.
Erwin
Thanks for the answers.
I will try that, then. I'm sure there is a thread that explains the partitioning process, i will try to find it.
Do I need to get S-OFF in order for A2SD to work properly ???
Would appreciate comments pls ...

http://forum.xda-developers.com/sho...m.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1233340
hi,
i run
Code:
Marcusant's Revival v1 ROM
Samurai 3.0.0 kernel
CWM 5 v5.0.2.7 Recovery
I have a new/larger (Class10 32 GB) sdcard that I'd like to upgrade to.
Iiuc, the ROM/Kernel can make use of both ext4 and swap partitions on the sdcard.
My question is how to best partition (method and partition table) that sdcard?
Normally, I'd just use CWM, but, at the latest CWM thread, DRockstar specifically states that it's NOT to be used for sdcard partitioning,
[RECOVERY] ClockworkMod 5.0.2.7 BML Officially supported by ROM Manager for Epic 4G
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1357655
" * DO NOT REPARTITION YOUR SDCARD WITH CLOCKWORKMOD. There are problems associated with this that I will detail later."

I've not yet found that 'detail'. Since I can't post a question TO that thread, I've messaged DRockstar directly to politely ask for some help in understanding the issue, and any/recommended alternatives; I've received no response to date.
I can partition the sdcard on my linux box, but am not clear on what the right partition types/sizes/order should be for my ROM/Kernel are.
Any recommendations?

noone doing this out there?
Sorry, not me. I've always used my SD card as just a single partition, since I've never specifically done anything to repartition it.
I also remember reading about how we shouldn't partition the card using CWM 5. If partitioning worked OK with earlier versions of CWM, would it be possible to flash one of those, partition the SD card with it, then re-flash the latest version of CWM? I don't know if this will work or what will happen if you do it, so I'm not sure you want to try this. But I thought I'd offer something to maybe help get some discussion going. Hopefully someone else who's more knowledgeable about this can provide more help than I can.
I've been unable to get any reply from anyone -- here, at ACS, or from the devs -- re: the status of format with CWM5.
So, choosing to simply believe the 1st post, and that formatting in/with CWM5 is currently broken, with no current solution, I decided to format externally, from Linux desktop.
So, 'this' is moot, for me ... and I've moved on to my next question(s):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=20172559
Hi everyone,
I'm kind of new in the whole moding life and I have some few questions for you.
I just installed the DroidWFS Rom (based on Droid Ace) from this topic : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2227402.
Just before this, I was on CyanogenMod 9 but the Data bug made me switch.
So the installation was done with success.
But I was wondering:
- it says in the topic of the rom that the latest play store is installed but I cannot find it.
- it says "No 2ext /...2SD scripts by default", how do i make it work? I was using link2sd with cyanogenmod 9
Thank's a lot for your help (and sorry if i'm not in the correct category)
Hi,
what's that data bug? heard about that a lot, but never really encountered it.
anyways, just google "gapps cm7", you'll find gapps package, just put it in your SD card, enter recovery and choose "install zip from sdcard".
for link2sd, I use int2ext cronmod, you can find it somewhere in the forums. but firstly you need to partition your SD card, if you haven't done it yet. enter recovery>advanced>partition sd card. 1024mb for the first option and 0mb swap size. go to mounts/storage, mount all possible partitions (don't remember which exactly, so to be sure mount them all) and finally flash int2ext zip file like I said to flash gapps zip.
Good luck!
Any ideas? I've tried TWRP 3.1.1.0 and 3.2.1.0 but it just reports back "updater process ended with error 255" and terminates?
Please help.

You are using the 32bit twrp to try and install a 64bit rom
My official twrp does not support 64bit roms - if you read the faqs in my twrp thread you would know this
Read the instructions in the 64bit rom thread & use the unofficial 64bit twrp
https://androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=236353
Note - I do not support the unofficial 64bit twrp as I did not build it

Select internal storage and it will show all folders in internal memory.
Thanks.
I did that. I see the root folders but nothing in internal storage. And the size of internal storage shows as 0MB
See attachement
Thanks

Scroll down
Select storage folder
Select something like emulated then 0
If you don't see emulated than 0 or the folder is empty then internal storage isn't mounted - check the mount section of twrp or try using a different twrp
To check external storage it's the same as above but you select emulated then the folder with the sdcard hex value as its name which is different with every sdcard

Looking at your phone it doesn't look like a moto g5
It looks more like a g5 plus or g5s
What is your device xt name eg xt1676 - if it's not a moto g5 codename cedric you are in the wrong device forum and using the wrong twrp

Yes it is a G5. Here's a photo from bootloader
FYI... when i flash 32bit TWRP i can see internal storage. But, of course, i cant flash custom roms from there because they are 64bit. Tried with lineage and Res remix. Error255 results

Try this twrp
https://drive.google.com/open?id=1MLlljM7BzMj9Da57LeyBHyg81cHdW1cB
If you can't mount internal storage your only option might be to format it
This will delete everything in the internal user data - pictures music documents etc - backup first!
Wipe - format data (option on the right)
Restart back to recovery
If it's not mountable wipe advanced wipe data and internal storage
Note if you didn't decrypt data (if asked) when launching twrp you need to format data anyway to remove encryption in order to be able to mount it
Also some 64bit twrp don't support encryption so it might not even ask for decrypt - the one I posted above should support encryption but you still need to format data if flashing a new rom

Thanks, those steps worked.
Interesting on first install i didnt get a question about decrypting.
After reformat the only folder i saw in /sdcard was TWRP. So i dropped the rom and gapps zips in there. No problem flashing from there
Thanks for the help

Unless you set a lock screen pin and enabled encryption you won't
64bit twrp has encryption issues - I think the one I provided allows you to decrypt data on 64bit roms if you do encrypt it (depending on rom)
I don't have this device anymore so I only built the 32bit official twrp when I had it
Also you won't have any other files/folder in internal storage until you boot android for the first time which is why you only had the twrp folder there

You device is encrypted, so you need to format the device to gain access to the internal storage, so format the device.
Format<format<yes.
Take a back up of internal storage, so you don't lose Data.
Hello.
