Anyone here coming from a Nexus 6? How do they compare?

I'm actually sitting here comparing them both [emoji3]
I really prefer the screen color and clarity of the G4 over the nexus 6. The G4 is a really good sweet spot in size, but even though the nexus is more uncomfortable to hold, I really enjoy the screen size. The nexus 6 is also much easier to type on for me. Not just in accuracy, but the phone feels much more stable in my hand.
Battery life has been better on the G4 for me, maybe by about an hour of SOT. It's nice to have some extra space with the SD card and removable battery if ever needed, but I doubt I'll ever use a spare battery.
The nexus of course has the advantage of being easily rooted and a great dev community.
I thought it was a really easy decision to keep the G4 over the nexus, but as comfortably and easily type this out on my nexus, the decision is getting harder [emoji45]

I unrooted and returned to stock once I got the G4 in preparation to sell it. I havent had any good offers yet. Sadly, I compare the phones every night. I really hate these decisions....

The nexus 6 is a little smoother, but not by much. The Nexus responds better to swipes and taps as well. I didn't really notice any sensitivity issues on the G4 until I put a tempered glass protector on and then compared to the Nexus. I don't have any serious touch issues like some other people though. On the G4, I'm using Google keyboard and Nova launcher. I never used the LG stock launcher or the keyboard, so I can't speak of lag on that.

I had my Nexus 6 since launch and i really enjoyed using it. It was a hard decision for me as well. I had the LG G3 previous to the Nexus 6 and the Nexus won out because of the G3 screen was not bright. LG G4 comes and the screen is nice. Ergo sold my Nexus 6. Also i dont experience any lag or touch issues as well. The G4 has a single speaker in the back but its pretty loud so i dont miss the dual speakers of the N6 as much.

Very similar.....g4 as close to stock android
I wish the n6 was this the g4 with aosp

The LG G4 battery life is better for me. My daily work usage of both N6 and G4 has the G4 lasting longer. There were a couple of instances where at one point i wish i had an extra battery option on the N6. Now the peace of mind that the G4 gives with a extra charged spare battery on tap just in case is awesome!

So I did a lot of my comparison with the Nexus on the Google Now Launcher and the G4 on Nova. I put nova back on the Nexus and strangely the clarity of the icons is a much better with a very unnoticeable difference with the G4. When it comes to reading a PDF textbook, the G4 is still noticeably sharper with text.
I also put the same wallpaper on the background (I guess the stock nexus one just doesn't look very good). I'd like to take back what I said earlier. Besides preferring the whites on the G4, I prefer the colors on the Nexus.

I got the g4 yesterday ( I'm a phone whore lol ) from TMO, and love the look, design and feel. There is just a lil..teeny wheeny bit of lag when using the stock (LG) keyboard. I haven't yet used Nova on it. Battery life is okay, but then its only been thru a couple of charge cycles.
I think it'll be easier like this.. My preliminary observations :
- Battery life is okay, per day 2 and about 2 charge cycles. As of now, the Nexus ( all stock, not rooted ) has slightly better battery ( Have had the N6 for about 2 months now...)
- Screen on the G4 is amazing, although I was expecting better visibility outdoors with my polarized shades and bright Sunlight. The N6 sucks outdoors!!..period. The Note 4 has the best screen yet, for me..
- Camera is leaps and bounds ahead of the N6, and Note 4. Totally impressed with the shots!
- G4 takes a while to charge. I guess I'm spoilt by fast charging on the Note 4 etc..
- Speaker volume is very good, even with it being on the back. Almost as good, if not the same, as N6.
- Voice quality is superb.
- The G4 is extremely pocketable ( I'm 5'11 ... 180 lbs.. and wear relaxed jeans ) over the Nexus and Note 4.
- The G4 gets quite warm when multasking ( streaming music via BT in car, plus using GPS ) compared to N6 and N4. I also notice a significant drop in battery during such uses (~ 1% every 2 mins )
That's all I got right now...

I have both and N5 too. They're very different beasts. I chose the G4 and will jump my T-Mobile N6. The G4 screen gets much brighter and much easier to see in the sun. The N6 sounds better. The G4 is very lightweight, more pocketable, more one handable. The N6 is pure Goog, no bloat, built like tank, and super tweak friendly. Try them both (if you can) and see what you like.

I fear lg did many steps behind with the g4. Built quality feels like a toy, phone feels slower although it is supposed to feel faster because of the processor and extra ram. Screen is nice, but cheap plastic body makes the phone remind me of samsung galaxy blaze...

Now that wifi calling is implemented in the Nexus 6, I will consider the next Nexus. This current Nexus is just to damn big and fat to comfortably handle.
The G4 is the perfect balance between phablet and phone.

Nexus 6 should easily win out now in terms of battery life since xposed is running with 5.1 on AOSP ROM's. My sister's N6 that I have running xposed, CM 12.1 with Greenify and everything, is getting amazing battery life.
Ultimately, it comes down to what you as a user need. The N6 is amazing due to its dev community and what not. But I need a device I can easily use with one hand, and has external storage since I have loads of music and photos. I do like the larger screen and the ROM support of the N6, but my decision to get the G4 was the right one for me.
Either way, you can't go wrong with either device.

Do you even own a nexus 6?
The N6 has a pretty good QHD screen that does drain a decent amount of battery, but it IS a 6" phone after all.
And lol, I'm giving first hand experience of the phone. With Xposed and Greenify, my N6 easily gets 5.5 hours of SoT with 60% brightness and location settings set to battery savings. I tested it for over day and got a little over 5.5 hours of SoT with about 20% battery remaining. Far better than anything I've been able to muster with the G4 so far. Once we get Greenify running with Xposed, we can compare it evenly, but for the time being, there is no arguing the fact that the N6 has better battery life due to lack of software constraints.

I think it's much more fair to compare stock to stock battery life than comparing with one having rooted apps. I own both phones at the moment and stock to stock, the G4 gets better battery life for my usage. Others may get different results, but for me personally, the G4 has been better. Again, that is for MY USAGE.

[Q] Does anyone else see a delay in Adaptive Brightness?

Does anyone notice that when removing the phone from a pocket to a high or low light situation, the adaptive brightness takes several seconds to "adapt"? It is starting to really bug me to the point that I am thinking about turning it off. Previously I was used to the Moto X on lollipop 5.1 which seemed quite quick to change depending on the situation.
No case, no screen protector.

Yes it takes a little bit to react, not so slow that it bothers me, yet...
Have you tried Lux Lite in the Google store? It's free and could be a possible alternative for the time being. I use it on my G4 and it's fantastic

Yes it's slow to react. I read this in some of the reviews but it was always blamed on early software. Let's hope it improves with updates.

So I pre-ordered the 5X to replace my Moto X 2014 which I purchased earlier this year when my N5 screen shattered during a drop. I have been using Nexus devices since the Galaxy Nexus, and only got the X because I didn't want a 6 inch phone like the N6 was. I actually ended up really liking the X, and ordered the 5X with intention of returning if it didn't seem like a significant upgrade. My first impressions were to return the 5X and use my Moto X until next year, but after a couple days the 5X has grown on me and I'm thinking keep it, sell the X. My single biggest complaint is adaptive display, in the past it was never very good, but on my N5 it actually improved significantly with Lollipop. However on the 5X it has been pretty bad, brightness changes are drastic and sudden like they used to be, on my Moto X it was always a smooth gradual change that wasn't noticeable. I used to not use it because it was so bad, but I've grown spoiled by really good functioning adaptive display and now don't want to give it up. I don't find it slow as much as inconsistent, changes screen brightness drastically when lighting around me changes a little bit. Hopefully will be fixed in a software update soon.

Has anyone used both the 5X and 6P?

So here is my dilemma, just playing with the 6P a bit and i love everything so far about it no issues as of now im still not a fan of AMOLED but its not as bad as i thought it would be but my biggest issue is the phone is massive I have small hands and im not sure I can ever get use to a phone this size, btw im coming from the M8
So I know the 5X is a plastic build, smaller battery and only 1 front speaker these are the things that matter to me but it has the same camera which is one of the main reasons I want to replace my M8
My question for anyone that has used both can you give me an unbiased opinion on speed of the 5X and battery or any other important issues. I just want to know if maybe i should give the 5X a shot

I have Nexus 5X and like it.
I have not used Nexus 6P and although it could be a bit faster, have more RAM or stereo speakers - the size of it is the problem for me. Aluminum is slippery especially if the phone is big and not comfortable to hold + more expensive. I am happy with Nexus 5X and and it completes my daily tasks just like any other flagship device out there. For you, I would suggest, to get 5X, but don't return your 6P just yet. Play with both and return one of them.

I bought both and used them and decided on the 5X. The 6P outperforms the 5X pretty much everywhere. But the 5X feels so much smaller/lighter/better in the hand. I tried my best to love the 6P but in the end, it was just too big. The 5X definitely feels cheaper, but I kinda like that. In the end, I kept not looking forward to actually holding the 6P in my hands. As I wrote to someone else, holding the 6P was a bit of a chore. The 5X is plenty fast in performance, but not as fast and smooth as the 6P. Coming from my Galaxy S4, the 5X flies.

It is fast and great for watching videos and browsing the web at home. Speakers and camera are good. I have a difficult time when I am active moving around or using in the car. It doesn't fit in my cup holder. I have almost dropped it a few times when trying to use one handed.
I am constantly thinking that I will be happier with smaller phone. My current phone is 4.7 inches.

I had both for about a week, and now it's been a week since I returned the 6P. I must say I am not regretting my decision at all. Even things like hitting the fingerprint sensor are better on the 5X. And I must say I definitely prefer the LCD on the 5X to the amoled on the 6P. Movies are the only thing that look better on the 6P; everything else looks better on the 5X, as far as color goes. I did prefer the 6P with sRGB color enabled. If only the 6P was, like, 5.3-5.4 inches and not as heavy. Not only is the 5X easier on the hand, the thing is light as a feather.

Haven't used the 6p, however I'm coming from a 4.7 inch nexus 4, and I was always scared for a screen bigger than 5 inches, but after getting the 5x it fits very nicely and not as big as I thought

I have used both for about a week each. My observations are as follows:
Battery Life - The 6P seems to last a fair bit longer than the 5X, for me at least. Even with the same set of apps on both the 6P lasts me a day whereas the 5X requires a top-up mid afternoon.
Screen - Personally I prefer the larger more vibrant screen of the 6P. The other advantage is that the UI seems a bit small on the 5X due to being scaled down compared to other 5.2" phones I have used like the Moto X 2nd Gen. Probably an age thing though, I never used to have a problem with smaller text!
Speed/Performance - Both are fairly fast and responsive, however the 5X tends to get bogged down for a few seconds from time to time. The 6P doesn't seem to do this.
Weight/Size - This is the killer for me. Although I prefer most aspects of the 6P it is just a bit too big to be comfortable in most of my trouser (pants for the Americans among us) pockets . It is worth noting that I didn't have any problem with the size of the 6P while in use - I could type fine one handed using a swipe keyboard.
As had been said many times elsewhere by other people, the phone I really wanted was a 5P..... Ultimately though I have settled on using the 5X for the moment, in the hope that one of the updates will help in the battery life stakes verses the 6P. The 6P just seemed like too much of a hassle to carry around.

This is the exact reason I didn't even give the 6P a second thought. After owning the Nexus 6 for many months, I just never felt comfortable with it and ended up back on my Nexus 5. Using it was definitely a burden, especially on the go. I learned first hand that a 6" phone is just too big. I was never able to get used to it. Quite frankly, I don't see how enough people find it to be a good size, thus making manufacturers continue to build phones that big. 5.2" - 5.5" is the sweet spot. Any bigger is just too much.

I ordered both, and I'm returning the 6P
Main reason:
6P is too big, slippery and heavy making one handed use almost impossible.
Secondary reasons:
Pricey.
810 woes. I could feel it get quite warm, although not unbearably so. Again, with the cost in perspective, I would rather wait for a better processor in a 5 inch phone.
I really don't do anything demanding with my phone. I mainly care about the unlocked bootloader and good s/w support, which any nexus would provide.
I still get some mileage over 5, notably wifi calling and band 12 support for t-mobile when it arrives. Combined with the early bird google play promo, I think I paid pretty much the same price for pretty much the same phone, which is fine. I really like my 5, and I'll give it to someone in family. Also, for what it's worth, the 5x should hold better value than 5 since it works with all the carriers in the US, should you choose to sell it later.

Granted, they were minor, and the vast majority of people would never notice the tints, but I'm extremely picky when it comes to displays. I returned multiple Galaxy S6s earlier this year for the same reason. AMOLED screens just seem to have poor uniformity and so I generally prefer LCDs. So I ordered a 5x today and it already shipped. But it's going to have to beat my Moto X Pure (Style) if it wants to stay in my pocket. I'll share my thoughts next week after I get a couple days to compare to the 6P and Pure.

My 5x has a barely noticeable tint near the bottom half, almost like a gradient on white displays but as you say most people probably wouldn't even notice it. I guess it's not just an AMOLED thing. I did an RMA but the replacement is completely yellow unfortunately, not sure if it's even worth trying again at this time.
My friend got the 6p and I got the 5x. No doubt the 6p is the more premium offering but in day to day use and holding the device the 5x wins hands down.

So I got my 5X today and love it. I will be returning the 6P. I will miss the slightly better performance of the 6P, the larger battery, and the better speakers, but I prefer the screen on the 5X (I'm an LCD and accurate color fan) and most of the experience is the same. Oh, and the camera cover glass on the 6P gives it really bad reflections in photos when the sun is out so I'm hoping the more standard looking lens cover on the 5X solves that.

I have both the 5x and the 6p. My 6p has a pink hue I'm waiting for them to release the hold on the first one I returned and I'm going to get another. Besides having the pink hue on the 6p I love both devices for different reasons. I do find myself reaching for my 5x more just because it's more comfortable. I currently have my phone sim in my 5x and my tablet sim in my 6p. I do use both every day though.

It is. Selling the Moto X. I heard so many complaints about the 5X being stuttery and slow, but those people must have defective units or a rogue app constantly running because I can barely tell a difference between the 5X and 6P, sometimes not at all. The 5X is no faster than the Moto X Pure, but scrolling and animations are much smoother.

I have the Nexus 5X and a co-worker of mine has the Nexus 6P which he allowed me to play with for a while. The Nexus 6P is just too big for me. One handed use and comfortable pocketabiltiy are high on my list. I did like the build quality and I prefer the more life like colors and deep blacks of an AMOLED screen(although I'm really happy with the Nexus 5X screen too). As far as battery it seemed to me that while browsing using Chrome the battery on the Nexus 6P dropped at about the same rate as my Nexus 5X with similar conditions and similar results in the battery details screen but I don't do a very accurate test so I can't say for sure but it seems that it's comparable to the Nexus 5X or maybe just a bit better which is what I would expect due to the much higher resolution.

Don't have 6P but N5X is definitely a welcome change in terms of weight and size after spending a year with Oneplus One. I never got used to 5.5" device and having weightless N5X puts it several notches above 6P for me. Besides, with encryption disabled this thing is plenty buttery, so no complaining here.

I've used both and I'm very undecided...
Display - Tie
Nexus 6P pros here are the bigger AMOLED screen. I'm typically an AMOLED fan over LCD and I actually like the over-saturated colors. That said, the LCD on the Nexus 5X is more accurate and has very even blacks (they are still gray compared to an AMOLED, but the screen doesn't have any bright spots/backlight bleed). Also, even though I know AMOLED screens have improved on this front I was still always worried about burn-in since it does start to get noticeable over time. It's nice to not have to worry about that on the 5X. I'd say it's a wash.
Audio - 6P
No contest here. My 6P had slightly imbalanced speakers so I ended up returning it but my wife's is very close to balanced. But even with the balance being slightly off the sound on the 6P is much better than the 5X. The 5X is actually worse than my Moto X 2014. Headphone output is about the same on both.
Performance - Tie
Haven't had any performance issues on either device. The 6P obviously has the faster processor but they're both "good enough" and neither lags in normal use.
Quality Control - 5X
Both 6Ps I've used have minor issues like the screen being seated improperly, the speaker balance being off, etc... The 5X doesn't have any minor imperfections like that.
Battery Life - 6P
No contest here really. The 6P has much better battery life both on standby and when actively using the device. The 5X is "okay" but I barely make it through a day of heavy usage (ie, when I was traveling yesterday) while the 6P can easily handle it.
Usability - 5X
Wasn't really sure what to call this, but the 5X's size just makes it easier to use with one hand. It fits better in your pocket, etc...
Camera - Tie
I haven't seen any observable difference between the two.
So overall I have 2 wins for each and the rest are ties. Obviously it depends on what you prioritize but it's making the decision very tough for me.

Just to follow up on my earlier post (quoted below) I have been switching between the two devices more often than I thought I would. While the size of the 5X is preferable to me the battery life just isn't working out as well as I had hoped, given the the same usage and apps on both (light to moderate usage).

The 6P just seemed like too much of a hassle to carry around.

I have returned the 6p and settled on the 5x. The 6p is a beast of a phone, speed, screen, build, etc etc. However, i just could not get personal with it. I am so much more happy with the 5x. A true 5 upgrade. Speed wise yes maybe a bit of difference, but im on my second day and its as fast as my 5 if not faster.

Help Deciding - Nexus 5X or Nexus 6? All Input Appreciated!

So, it doesn't seem to be an easy choice for someone in the market for a new device whom prefers stock Android.
I am trying to weigh out the pros and cons between the 5X and the 6. (In my personal opinion of course)

Is it right to compare the 5X to the 6, giving the substantial size difference? I believe so due to the price. I mean, the 32GB Nexus 6 is $80 cheaper than the 32GB Nexus 5X.
Tomorrow (11/24/2015) I will be receiving two packages from Fedex. One will contain a Brand New White Nexus 6, the other a Brand New Black Nexus 5X. I have 24 hours to decide which I want to keep.
I will GREATLY appreciate any and all input from current Nexus 5X owners. What made you decide to purchase a Nexus 5X, knowing that you could have gotten a Nexus 6 for less?
P.S- I'm not a fan of the Nexus 6P. I feel it is well worth $500, but for some reason I just don't really like it. I don't know if it is its appearance, the fact that it is a Huawei, I don't know. But something makes me not want it.

Get the 5X, especially for the imprint it's worth it. Has good battery life also. I love it, I thought I wouldn't with all the "bad" reviews but it's an amazing phone!

What do you like most about your 5X? What color did you go with?
It's like, I love the N6 AMOLED Display and Dual Stereo Speakers, but then I love the 5X Form Factor and Nexus Imprint. The AMOLED vs IPS isnt that big of a deal to me. I love AMOLEDs deep blacks and vibrant colors, but I dont like their uneven pixel wearing and future nav bar / status bar retention. The 5X seems more future proof with 64bit SOC and USB C, but how future proof is 2GB of ram?
Sigh, I am way over thinking this! There is a 90% chance that regardless of which I get, it will be replaced with a new Nexus next Oct / Nov.
The Nexus 6 has a better display and better speakers. I just need to decide if that justifies the loss of a favorable form factor, fingerprint sensor, and better camera.

I went with black. I did want the AMOLED but this display is good anyway. Do you really need the stereo speakers? I find that kind of a gimmick. It's nice and all but the speaker on this phone works well, plus there's a mod to allow sound from the earpiece and it's surprisingly good.
With more iterations of Android, the RAM usage will only get better. I do wish it had 3GB but it performs fast for me.
You could get the 6 for cheap then just get the new Nexus phone next year . That's also not a bad idea, but I didn't like how big that phone is. The N5X is JUST big enough to where it isn't too big.

Two main reasons : the N6 size and weight, it was difficult to use with one hand.

I'm not alone here then. You actually sold your Nexus 6 and bought a 5X. Did you ever feel like you "downgraded". I guess there are pros and cons to both really.
I like the Nexus 6 and for some reason I feel like if I go with the 5X I am downgrading. Yet, for some reason something is making me want the 5X. I guess I am trying to decide between performance and form factor. To me it seems the Nexus 6 has better specs as far as processor, ram, display, speakers. But, the 5X has a more functional form factor, fingerprint sensor, better camera, and USB C.
Talk about first world problems.... lol. Rough life I have, trying to decide if I want to keep the Nexus 6 or the Nexus 5X.
In the end, I think I am going to go with the 5X. I like the idea of the big beasty Nexus 6, but it is the phablet of phablets. Sure the display is nice and all, but damn it is a huge phone. Also, I am far from a power user. I do not play games or even download them to my phones. So the larger screen will be kind of a waste for me. My phone usage consist of calls, texts, web browsing, YouTube, normal app usage. I think the 5X is perfect for me. I'm not sure if it is worth getting the Nexus 6 just to have a better youtube experience, because for my usage that is about all I will be gaining.
I have been thinking about picking up a Nexus 7 for the at the house anyways. So maybe I will just stick with the 5X and pick up a Nexus 7 for the house. Then I will have the best of both worlds. Larger screen for media at home, and a solid functional phone for on the go.

Well I received my Nexus 6 and my Nexus 5X today. Next to the 5X, the Nexus 6 doesn't seem THAT much bigger. Until you turn the screens on. Then, I see a big difference. Colors look much more vivid on the 6, but whites look whiter on the 5X. I definitely did not get a 5X with the yellowing issue. My whites on my 5X are WHITE, where on the 6 they look slightly creamy. The 6 display is definitely brighter when both devices are max. I do see where people are coming from about AMOLED displays. They are super vivid, and the colors just pop, but they also have a cartoony look to them. Definitely over saturated. Call my crazy but I am starting to like the 5X display more. I have never had an AMOLED next to an IPS like this before. (previous iPhone guy here).
I would say the Whites and Grays look much better on the 5X, and the colors can look better on the 6, but almost way over saturated at times.
They both feel pretty good in the hand. More so the 5X, it actually feels like a phone. The 6 is just so wide. Feels more like a mini tablet than a phone. I snapped a few pics. The 5X definitely takes a better picture. The speakers on the 6 smoke the 5X hands down. (obviously) I love Nexus Imprint though.
This is going to be hard! I am giving myself until tomorrow morning to decide. It is looking to be exactly as I predicted. Do I want beasty media device with a huge display and dual speakers, or do I want a more functional device with a fingerprint sensor and better battery life.
Sigh.... I will say that I am leaning a little bit more towards the 5X. I am going to do some real world performance tests and see how that goes.

When I bought the N6 and saw its screen, after the N4, I said "wow it is large" !! When I put the phone in my pocket I also said "wow it is very large and heavy weight" !! I love the idea of the 5X. The only problem is I have been using a Nexus 6 for almost two months. I'm so use to the display. It's super nice for Chrome and YouTube. Typing is a dream.
However, I have noticed the faults of its camera. It takes less than desirable photos. There are many times where I have tried to pull it out and use it while doing something, and I had to set down what was in my other hand to finish what I was doing on it. The size is awesome for media, and bad for everything else.
The form factor and functionality will be so much better if I go with the 5X. It would be nice to be able to whip out my phone, have it unlocked by the time it's out of my pocket, and send a text easily one handed. The camera would be a welcomed change as well.
Decisions, Decisions.

So, N5X is a good compromise.

The Nexus 5X would have been a good compromise. I couldn't do it though. After using the 5X for two days, I decided against it.
I feel the 5X is a great phone! I have nothing bad to say about it! If I had went from my iPhone 6 to the 5X I would have loved it! Going from a 4.7" LCD to a 5.2" LCD would have been a nice upgrade! However, I didn't. I went from an iPhone 6 to a Nexus 6. The switch made me love Amoled displays, as well as larger displays. (Phablets)
Ultimately I put the 5X side by side to the Nexus 6 and used them both for a couple hours. This just made me fully appreciate the 6 display and the dual stereo speakers even more. The 5X fingerprint sensor and better camera were not enough for me to ditch the 5.96" AMOLED Display and Dual Stereo Speakers. Don't get me wrong though, I thought the 5X did have a very nice IPS display. It had better whites than the 6, but to me colors and blacks couldn't even compare.
Farewell Nexus 5X forum. I will be returning to the Nexus 6 forum.

Is is worth to move? I believe that there is a lot of people which moved from N5 to N5X.
In daily using is there any difference in smooth and performance?
Big plus for mi is Android N

To be honest with you, it's even a downgrade.
I moved from N5 to Xiaomi Mi4C and then to N5X (because I love to tinker around) and if the screen on my old Nexus 5 wouldn't be broken, I would go back to the Nexus 5 without hesitating and I would look forward to it.
1. The camera is utterly crap if you want to make close-up pictures, otherwise it's just okay.
2. The cpu is janky, it lags here and there even with encryption disabled and even with custom kernel and custom roms. I would often like to smash the phone against the wall because it takes so long to do basic tasks...
3. The cpu, it gets so hot I could burn my skin with it from time to time (hotspot + using your phone? Burn your fingers...). Even browsing and listening to music seems to stress the cpu that much that it heats up extremely. Custom kernel and custom rom do indeed improve it a bit, but the problem is still there and noticeable
4. The sound is really quiet/silent and as soon as you turn the volume up it gets distorted. Listening to music with just the phones speakers is a huge pain.
5. The battery life is miserable, okay compared to the N5 it's at least not worse and it will get better with Android N as I already tested out for a week.
Honestly, keep your N5 and wait until they release the new ones, but don't buy the N5X. You will be so disappointed by its performance.
You can get Android N on the N5 without any big problems via custom rom which will be probably released shortly after the final Android N version is released . It's no problem to flash it to the N5 and you won't loose warranty (which I guess is already over)
PS; Nobody has to tell me my N5X may be defective, the 3 workmates who bought the N5X as well are complaining constantly about those points as well.

Definitely agree on most of your points as a 5x owner. But i never had problems with my cpu like you do. My phone is heavily filled with apps and stuff and it doesn't lag at all. Sometimes it's a bit jerky here and there but that's it. And on point 3. nearly all the smartphones have that issue it's the build material that makes it feel so hot. if you take for example a samsung phone with the same cpu but their build quality with the glass and metal it will feel far less hot. but yeah wait for the new nexus!

It's a noticeable upgrade in just about every way from a N5 and worth the upgrade IMO.
After 8 months I've seen no performance issues with my 5x and the graphics performance (gaming) is 2x higher especially over long gaming runs as the graphical performance doesn't hit rock bottom like it did with the N5 after warming up.
The camera is top notch. Same camera as the Nexus 6p, you'll see only praise for it around the internet. No other phone camera comes close at this price range.
Heat generation is actually a huge improvement over the N5. The N5 could see skin temperatures up to 10C higher than the 5x, so if people think their 5x gets hot then they haven't ever used a N5. Here's an exert from one of the few review sites that tests for thermals, skin temperature specifically.
With idle temperatures of just over 25 °C, the Nexus 5X hardly heats up noticeably in idle mode. The handset is also unexpectedly cool under load despite the relatively strong SoC. The hottest spot measured reaches just 37.4 °C here - other premium smartphones often surpass 40 °C. The review sample can even shine with the lowest rates compared with its rivals.

Size difference, the bigger screen is nice and even noticeable but the 5x is a lot taller than it needs to be so the N5 would win in total size and screen to bezel ratio.
External speaker. It sounds about the same but it gets 1 or 2 steps louder and facing forward is an improvement.
Back cover discolouration. My carbon black seems to get permanent smudges that can be seen under certain lighting conditions.

You may call that jerky, we call it laggy, janky whatever. But you do agree it's not as fluid as the N5? Or could you even ever compare the N5 to the N5X? It is by no means fluid and for me not an acceptable performance. My N5 runs rounds around the N5X when it's not about gaming. And exactly that is my point. Why is the N5 in basic tasks (Menu, browsing, scrolling, animations) faster than the N5X? I didn't expect a downgrade in everyday task performance and it hit me hard in the disappointment section.

It's just an upgrade if you are constantly playing games (performance wise). In the most basic tasks the N5 crushes the N5X performance. But the thread starter can decide that himself if he buys the N5X and I would really like to hear his opinion then after comparing the two devices

Are you kidding? I agree the camera is better than the one found in N5 but my Mi4C took way better pictures than the N5X and several levels better when capturing some close distance shots (really close distance) and you know what? The Mi4C is cheaper.
I don't want to sound like the camera is bad in every aspect, but top notch is fanboy talk...
Actually whenever I wanted to take a close distance picture with an N5X I always ended up with the picture being blurred to the point I couldn't even recognize what should be on the picture :crying:.
Some people also say the Nexus 9 is a very good tablet whereas my mate and I who bought the devices together would call it the worst nexus product until now
Now let me mention some things I like about the N5X because I don't totally hate the device and I'm just so disappointed that the performance is worse than on the N5 in almost every situation.
- Screen: I already got several compliments that the screen is well calibrated and looks pretty good.
- USB C: It's positive as well as negative. I like the new connector, but all of my friends who don't have it hate it because they can't use my charger nor my cable
- Front facing speakers (just don't turn the volume up too much, otherwise the sound gets ****ty)
- Quick Charging: Absolutely love that! Helped me out in many situations where I just needed like 20-30% more charge to get through the day or the night.
- Screen gets activated when you lift the phone from the desk or out of your pocket, pretty convenient
- You'll maybe be able to access the notification tray and quick settings panel with the fingerprint scanner in Android N

I don't know if I would go that far. I feel like with my N5, I had to choose between a smooth experience or battery life. With the N5X it that isn't so much the case. That being said, there are times where this phone will lag on even the most simplest of tasks with no explanation or reason. It's beyond frustrating. At this point you're better off waiting for the new Nexus phones to come out and snagging one of those instead.

I would (am) wait(ing). I wouldn't even replace my N5, but it's showing problems with modem and gps. It's been suggested that our N5X is defective because of the jerky/lagging touch responsiveness. When it's placed next to the N5, the color calibration seems off. N5 has much whiter whites and just appears crisper than what I see on the 5X. The 5X belongs to hubby who doesn't care about the off-white tint, but he really dislikes the fact that touches have to be repeated even 3 times before they respond. I would try a custom kernel, but he doesn't want me messing with his phone. He doesn't use his phone for much. If the new phones don't meet my needs/wants, I'll get a 6P. It's a little big but haven't seen any other problems with the one we have.

What you call "whiter white" is blue white and actually shows a bad calibration, just saying. If you prefer such color pallete then better go for samsung. Also there is an option in dev settings to "fix" it, though i have it disabled. No difference (unless you compare) in the day, while the blue white hurts my eyes in the night
Back to topic, stock 5x is a bit laggy but EX kernel with ghostpepper fixed that for me.
Battery is ok, similar to my G2 and people did not whine about that phone so i dont know why everyone is pissed with 5x
If someone (creambyemute ) believes that the camera is bad, then should get a eye surgery appointment soon. Just kidding, but you should tap your screen to focus at that distance/objec. If the blur persists just focus on something else and then back at your target
5x has great well-light photos, good low light ones, though no stabilizer so videos are shaky
All that being said new nexus phones should not be too far, so you might as well wait for them

For all the people complaining about daily performance... Just flash PA rom. Done. Phone is smooth now.

With the new Nexus phones coming out soon, I wouldn't upgrade to the 5X if I were you. I got my 5X when it first came out and I had a Nexus 5 before.
There are some improvements but nothing major despite a 2-yr gap. Better camera, better battery, better screen, but laggy and slow sometimes. I was kind of disappointed when I first got my 5X.

I know all the commentary about the color palette/calibration/preference/true colors arguments which makes it a little difficult to determine if, in fact, one actually has a defective screen (as I had on my first N7 FLO which looked worse than my then current N7). I prefer the color tones on my N5. However, I did change to cool temperature option on the 5x, and I think it's more to my preference. I do like the amoled display on the 6P and think the samoled's are all right. It was big change from Galaxy Nexus to N4. Ultimately, it's all about the point you bring up (blue white hurts my eyes in the night). No two people see anything exactly the same way so all we can do is get what works for us. Actually, I prefer the displays on the ios devices, that and battery life, but that's it.
The pictures were taken with the N9 which no one can argue has a great camera; however, it shows the differences. One can also see that the 5x presents sharper images on the screen. I will say that I thought the 5 showed clearer text than the pics show. I'm sure someone (anyone) could have taken betters shots. The left pic is warmer display; the right is cooler.

Thus why i said that sammy phones are probably more in your alley, they also have a neutral color option if you feel like it too.
My friends like samsung so i have seen few of their phones and amoled is not really my cup, stunning colors but you can take picture of a bulb light room and it will be chock full of orange while the same picture on other phones looks white/yellow.
I heard that the s7 has not such aggressive saturation, but until i can meet with my friend to check his s7 edge i cant say for sure. I will update when that happens if you want

Actually whenever I wanted to take a close distance picture with an N5X I always ended up with the picture being blurred to the point I couldn't even recognize what should be on the picture :crying:.
Some people also say the Nexus 9 is a very good tablet whereas my mate and I who bought the devices together would call it the worst nexus product until now
Now let me mention some things I like about the N5X because I don't totally hate the device and I'm just so disappointed that the performance is worse than on the N5 in almost every situation.
- Screen: I already got several compliments that the screen is well calibrated and looks pretty good.
- USB C: It's positive as well as negative. I like the new connector, but all of my friends who don't have it hate it because they can't use my charger nor my cable
- Front facing speakers (just don't turn the volume up too much, otherwise the sound gets ****ty)
- Quick Charging: Absolutely love that! Helped me out in many situations where I just needed like 20-30% more charge to get through the day or the night.
- Screen gets activated when you lift the phone from the desk or out of your pocket, pretty convenient
- You'll maybe be able to access the notification tray and quick settings panel with the fingerprint scanner in Android N

I've had zero performance issues with my 5x since I bought it 9 months ago. There hasn't been a single instance where I've found it to be slower than my N5, and multiple instances of it being faster such as connection speeds, gaming performance and loading the camera. Storage speeds are also much faster than the N5 even with encryption enabled on the 5x and disabled on the N5 (less secure).
The camera on the 6p and 5x (same camera) was well regarded as one of the best cell phone cameras until this years devices started rolling out. Details with HDR+ are insane, low light performance is out of this world, and the pictures come out fast and snappy with the camera loaded and capturing scenes within 2-3 seconds from being locked. Most importantly: everything you take a picture of looks like it does in real life with your eyes.
It can't be a fanboy comment when every review of the camera on the 5x and 6p agrees: it is absolutely top notch.
It sucks that you haven't experience the 5x to its fullest, I'm not sure if you have a defective 5x or possibly are causing the issues with your 3rd party software but your experience is not typical.
My friend has recently acquired a Nexus 5x about 2 weeks ago and so far has had the same experience myself. Snappy, smooth, and the best phone at this price range by a large margin.

Not in my experience and I've owned the 5x since launch day and a N5 since its launch day as well.

I made the swap a month ago when Carphone Warehouse in the UK were clearing stock for £130 and don't regret it at all. Feels exactly like you would expect a two year newer N5 to feel, nothing earth shattering, just slicker all round. Put the Nougat DP5 straight on it which obviously helps but only downside for me is no wireless charging as mine lived on a wireless deskstand all day at the office but the quick charging and better battery life make up for it... just have to remember to plug it in for a bit in the evening.
Wasn't keen on how light it is but I always use a case and once that was on all was good. Solid recommendation for the Supcase if you get one, cheap, top quality and once you slit the buttons all is good.
I wouldn't have been looking if it wasn't so cheap or the N5 battery was going but very glad I did and have a got a much more up to date phone for a lot less than half the price of one of the new Nexi when they come out. I stuck a new battery in the N5 and now my youngest is even happier than I am.

Regarding the N5X camera discussion here....
Macro pictures are not important to me. I don't need close-up pictures.
In normal use, the camera is spectacular. I recently went on a trip to Italy with a real camera and, honestly, I didn't even use it. The N5X camera has a wide scope, high quality, and great color reproduction. It's the same camera as that on the N6P, same exact camera; the only difference is not EIS but that can be fixed if rooted (it's disabled by default to make N6P more premium).

Sure, it's no Samsung Galaxy 7, but few phones can compare to the 7's camera.

One more thing about N5 camera vs N5X camera...
I had the N5 previously. If there was ONE thing I hated about the N5 is that pictures took 2-5 seconds to get taken after you press the button.
While on the 5X, it is practically instantaneous.
Last thing...
Come on, get the new Nexus which will launch in about 1-2 months.

This phone is great. I'm on N DP5 and 0 lag, great battery and performance.
