Missing SMS Notifications - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I've had my 5x for a week now and I've been noticing that sometimes I don't get a notification from the Messenger app when I get a new SMS. I am unable to reliably repeat this issue but it seems to happen as a cluster, that is to say, for a period of time, no SMS notifications come through, and then things go back to normal.
I have explored Do Not Disturb settings, and under 'Priority only allows...' I've set Messages to "From Anyone", and automatic rules foe DND are all off. Under 'App Notifications' I have given Messenger app priority. Under Battery->Battery Optimization I have disabled optimization in the Messenger app.
Are there any other settings I'm missing that could help?
Is anyone else experiencing strange notification behavior with Marshmallow?
Thanks,
John

Bump
Me too, I'm having a lot of erratic notification behavior. I have to keep checking WhatsApp and WeChat and discover I have instead messages I wasn't notified of. I've had Greenify installed and it seems to have been causing other problems, so I just not uninstalled it entirely and we'll see if that's any help.

WM6 Messaging notification - Can it be stopped?

Hi All,
Just upgraded with the AT&T release of WM6. Everything works well though the phone has done a few quirky things like locking up on the unlock screen and once setting off the vibrate notification and never stopping.
Two questions though.
1. The Messaging app periodically checks for mail and then vibrates the phone and pops up a notification telling me I have x unread messages. I KNOW that I have unread messages and have not chosen to read them but I get a new notification every time it checks to see if there are new messages regardless of whether any new ones came in or not.
Can the notification be stopped without shutting off all notifications from other apps?
2. Every time I turn the screen off, when I turn it back on whatever app I had running has gone to the background and the phone has shifted to the today screen. Can this be stopped? I want it to be whereever I left it. I have searched but cannot find an option for that behavior.
I have to say that the Bluetooth stack works SOOO much better than did the one in WM5. And I love that Messaging now supports HTML. Profimail stopped working with html links in messages from yahoo news and it was getting annoying that I could not go to the full article if I wanted to read more.

No message alert tones

My TP2 has developed a problem where it doesn't beep when I get SMS or email messages, and the first I know is when I look at the phone and see the notification icons on the TF3D bar.
I have the tones turned on under settings>sounds and notifications>notifications. The event new text message has an alert, and I have tested the sound which does work, but it just doesn't seem to play when I get a new message, nor for emails.
Make sure "Notifications (alarms, reminders)" is checked in sounds & notifications setting panel.
Same problem with Windows Live mail... SMS and other email seems to work...
yes, i have checked that and it definitely is checked. any other suggestions anyone?
Do you use an application called Gyrator by any chance? I had this exact same issue with my SMS / email tones. Try quitting/disabling Gyrator and see if it has any effect in your case.
I've had the same problem since day 1 with my TP2. I configured my email accounts and they've never managed to play a notification. SMS works fine, but emails don't. I have 4 email accounts and have to continually check for the flashing green notification light.
I've settled on waiting to see if any 3rd party ROMs solve it, following release of HardSPL (it's an exciting wait!).
Oddly enough I seem to have the same issue with another screen rotator app called changeScreen. I wonder what it is that causes these screen rotator applications to disable the alert tone for both SMS and e-mails? I do get the blinking led though...
SOLUTION (for me)

It's wrong to assume screen rotation software is affecting the notifications. I had the problem before installing such software.
Incidentally, since my problem was confined to email notifications, I've installed a workaround in the form of GudenSoft's 'Email Scheduler'. When using that software, my email notification sounds are working just fine.
Here it is if anyone else wants to try it - http://www.gudensoft.com/emailscheduler/
yes, I do have Gyrator 2 installed, but I don't think that is the problem. I exited the application and sent myself a couple of texts from another phone and it still didn't give me an alert.
Oh well I think it is hard reset time. I'll install things one by one and try to find what causes my problem and let you know my findings!

Facebook forgets notification settings

I can't find any reference to this happening to anyone else, but I'm getting very frustrated with the Facebook app. I explicitly changed the notification settings to never vibrate, and only notify me for messages, not for anything else.
Inevitably what happens is, a few days later, it vibrates out of nowhere with a notification for something that isn't a message. I open the app, look into Settings and everything has a checkmark again (including Vibrate and all of the things I don't want to be notified about). I have to fix the settings roughly three times a week.
Does anyone else experience this?
I'm wondering if maybe the best solution is just to download Facebook Messenger and then use the Jelly Bean option to ban the Facebook app proper from sending me any notifications at all.

Delayed GMail Notifications (caused by Doze?)

Whether I was on MIUI or Pie ROMs like Pixel Experience, Liquid Remix, ArrowOS or AOSIP, GMail push notifications don't work reliably when the screen is off. Sometimes it takes 10-30 minutes for them to arrive.
I read that this might be related to Doze and Google Cloud Messaging, but there doesn't seem to be a fix (Battery Optimisation-->Not Optimised doesn't work). Has anyone else experienced this?
Here's a quote from someone on Reddit
This has been happening since Marshmallow, and it's caused by Dose.
There is no fix. Some people suggest disabling battery optimization under battery settings or even whitelisting Gmail under do not disturb setting, but these don't work.
The reason Gmail stops receiving notifications when under Doze is because Gmail notifications are normal priority GCM (Google Cloud Messaging) notifications. All normal priority GCM notifications are put in a queue when Doze is enabled and are only received once the phone exists Doze.
Only high priority GCM notifications are received during Doze, and these notifications are reversed for instant messaging apps, like WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger. Also, the GCM priority level is set by the app developer and can't be changed by the user.

Whatsapp Notifications not working

I do not know whether or not this issue has been resolved, but since December I have not been receiving WhatsApp notifications on my Pixel. I get the notification sound/vibration, but no icon in the notification bar, or on my lock screen for that matter. At first I thought it was my anti-virus that was causing this issue, but I have since disabled the active virus scan monitoring, uninstalled-reinstalled WhatsApp and this issue still persists. TIA
Same here!!
