I'm a happy CM7 user, never had the chance to post here but really enjoy the forum. So hi guys
Yesterday, after a normal day using my DHD, I put it on my desk. While doing that - I'm not sure - I may have pressed many times on the pin screen, as the phone was locked for 30 seconds. TBH I really don't know how that could have happened as I have gesture unlocking enabled as well. Anyway.
Then, while waiting for the 30 seconds delay to end, the device rebooted. At the reboot, the unpacking screen was displayed, as if I was just flashing a new rom. Actually, that was exactly what the phone did for me…
So the phone just flashed itself for no reasons, and even though that was quite annoying, everything is fixed now (though, the device was not recognized any more by my Google account, and I struggled a bit to re download all the apps…)
My concern are: how could this happen? is this a known issue? If not who should I report this bug to?
Thanks
Wow, that is weird, never heard of something like this. Here is some info about reporting bugs:
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Howto:_Use_the_Issue_Tracker
Click on Issue Tracker within the first paragraph to report the bug but read that page first.
On another note, when you flash CM7 and Google AddOn the Market will be empty at first, but after some time (30min max?) it will download all the apps you had before. No need to go find each app and redownload manually.
Hope this helps.
Thanks for this Issue Tracker link, I'll check it out asap.
Regarding the app sync, I think it was not working because the device was not recognized by my market account any more, and especially because I didn't flash the Google Add on this time - but used the market straight away…
Now before anyone flames me, I did search first "DUH". I could not find any clear solution that doesn't involve flashing roms, rooting etc etc.
All of a sudden, when phone has been on standby overnight, the battery is draining mega fast and it shows that the culprit is this "Mediaserver". What is this and how do I kill the SOB?
Usually my phone battery goes from 100% to about 95% when I wake up in the morning, which is about right. Now for the past 2 days, it goes from 100% to around 50% overnight!!!!!!
Please help someone as I have searched everywhere and I have not found a clear answer. I have not installed anything new, I do not stream media etc.
Thanks in advance!

FYI I typed "media server android battery" in to google and this was the first link.
Maybe try that next time
Umm...thanks very much but that was the first thing I tried. I actually saw that thread of the link you provided but it tells me absolutely nothing. Like I said, I did search first. I am not new here
I would like to know how one kills mediaserver.
I actually restarted my phone and up to now it has gone back to normal. Mediaserver appears near the bottom now with only 2% and the display is back at the top with 65% battery usage.
I must have read through about 10 different threads on the same issue with no clear resolution! Very frustrating indeed.
no worries, I can see you're not new here and I'm sure you've been pulling your hair out searching and reading the same thing over and over. When I read your OP it seemed like the answers in that thread covered things you might not have tried:

The answers in that thread suggest moving all of your media off your sd, nothing to do with rooting or flashing
But anyway I clearly underestimated how frustrating this problem has been for you, I don't think I could suggest anything you haven't already tried!
Possibly solved mediaserver issue!
Well, I did a soft reset and everything has gone back to normal. Medaserver does not even feature now. It is only visible when I am streaming music via bluetooth stereo headset.

Hi I am facing the same issue. would like to know what exactly you mean by soft reset? is it holding power button for about 10sec till phone switches off or do u mean a factory reset ?
Some of them said it worked when they cleaned up a corrupted file so i used a new SD card with just one song to test but everytime i play the song MediaServer wakes up and sucks out my batt. SO this method fails!
Second thing that i tried out was to disable stagefright settings in Build.prop which again has not worked! running out of ideas
device: Galaxy ace
ROM: Miracle V4.
Help would be much appreciated
I was facing similar issues.
here is what i observed
STOCK ROM: No issues.
Miracle ROM V4: Media server prob. Used a clean formatted SDcard with just one song on it and the problem still persisted
Other CM7.2 based ROMs: Media server prob. Used a clean formatted SDcard with just one song on it and the problem still persisted
Factory reset: On CM7.2 based ROMs: No use. problem no solved
Finally i used OmegaROMV4.: No media server problem here. Looks like its only for CM7.2 based ROMS.
I'm getting this on UNOFFICIAL CM9 for Evo. Started after I installed 5 different Portal Soundboards as well as a theme for CM9's Theme Chooser. Going to look into BetterBatteryStats but I'm not too confident based on other forums I've looked through. Also may consider a cache/dalvik wipe... If anyone has tracked this problem down please let me know.

I'm using a Nexus 7 that I've only had for a few days, so it was fairly easy to track down the culprit responsible for MediaServer gobbling up my battery.
The Internet did not provide any real solutions, just suggestions, so what I did was disable and/or uninstall any apps that I had installed today (the problem only started today) and also disabled other apps that keep popping up in the task manager, even after killing them a minute before, all to no avail.
One of the things I had also done was copy over a folder of wallpapers that I also have on my HP Touchpad.
I reconnected the N7 to the PC, open the N7's storage, deleted the folder and INSTANTANEOUSLY, MediaServer disappeared from my battery stats. I can't say if this will happen to any folder of pix or music that I might copy over, as this just happened to me a few minutes ago.
Some have spoken about corrupt files, and there is that small chance that one of my pics is corrupt, but it's a darn good start for anyone else, at least knowing where to look first.
I may experiment with it later and if I have anything to report, I'll post it.
Edit,
After experimenting with the wallpapers folder, copying it over to the N7, then removing it, using the wallpaper, rebooting, plugging the USB cable into the PC, then the charger, and disabling and enabling "Gallery", I have found that there is a relationship between having that folder on the N7, and MediaServer coming on and using a lot of battery power. Getting the Media Server to come on, or go off, is not as instantaneous as it was the first time I did it, thus all the other actions mentioned above, until Media Server turned off. One thing for sure is that when the Wallpapers folder was on the N7, there was nothing I could do to stop the Media Server, and to get it to turn off, amongst other things, I had to remove the folder and disable "Gallery".
Once the Media Server is off, it stays off, even after enabling "Gallery", as long as the Wallpapers folder isn't present.
I hope I explained that well enough to be useful.
Firstly, outstanding work by vijendrahs on this ROM. He's breathed a huge amount of life back into the Desire. I really like the phone, but was hitting the memory ceiling pretty hard. Memory worries are now a thing of the past! Props, and many thanks.
In case any devs monitor the Q&A, here are a few issues I found with the 2.7 release:
1. Dolphin Browser (both regular and mini versions) crashes reliably upon opening two or three tabs and switching back and forth between them two or three times. It does not matter whether caching is set to SD. Curiously, the built-in browser does not have this problem, and I am therefore tempted to blame Dolphin ... except that this is not a problem in 2.51. (I went straight from 2.51 to 2.7, so I don't know if this issue exists in 2.6.)
2. The update process killed my radio. Had to do a full wipe, reformat the SD card, re-create the sd-ext partition and reinstall everything from scratch.
3. I took a couple of pictures, put the phone in my pocket with the screen off, and about 90 minutes later my battery had dropped from about 90% to 28%. The battery stats showed the screen had used 50% of the CPU time and the Gallery app had used 20%.
4. I disabled the Gallery app, just to see what effect that would have on battery life. Both Gallery and the camera disappeared from the home screen and from the apps list, and neither shows up as disabled when I go to manage apps, so I can't simply re-enable them.
By the way, I created the sd-ext as ext4, which I have read (here or elsewhere) can be buggy with CM10 in general or the Desire in particular. I'm going to try ext3 and see if that makes any difference.
Hope this helps someone!
Does anyone have a problem with the camera? When I turn on the camera, it all becomes a colorful throws lines etc.
Camera is a known issue

That's a known issue. Just turn the camera on, turn it off, and turn it back on, then it will work fine.

Ext3 vs. ext4 made no difference. Another issue:
5. Skype does not release the mic back to the OS (i.e., the phone) after ending a call. Have to reboot the phone to get the mic back. Could be Skype's problem, I suppose. I've seen an .apk to fix this for Nokia phones, but don't know what it changes.

I/O scheduler
Hi,
Does anyone of you guys here have problems with changing the I/O scheduler?
It is stuck at "deadline" and I would like to try to change it to "noop", however, it does not respond to my input.
I've read at developer thread that some users had this problem but it remained unanswered...
One more question, how to fix LED flashlight for msg?
Hi Guys!
I started to experiencing strange behaviours and freezes on my galaxy nexus in the last two months but its just worse and worse. This is why I'd like to ask, maybe someone already having same problems... The first strange thing happened during I used a web browser (boat browser) some part of the web content was blurry or vertically / horizontally stretched. The degree of stretching was depending on the scrolling or/and zooming. So its something if we divide the screen to (approx) 5x10 square - like mosaic- and the content of some squares was stretched but there is also the content of the webpage just not on the right place/size.. So i can't use the browser like this, after a minute or two its typically closed without any error message, I just got back the launcher... I did not care with this problem because it was only with heavy websites.. -Was look like the phone has not enough memory- But Unfortunately later my phone started to crash very randomly, mostly durring browse.. but somtimes just when i turn on the screen to watch the time, or started my mailbox. The freezes always the same: For approx 10 sec the phone stops not react to anything on the touchscreen and not the hw buttons. after this 10 sec the screen becomes lighter (ithink like maximum brightness) and few horizontal line appearing on the screen. If i wait more 30 sec the brightness level starts to fade except the horisontal line on the screen... As the screen fedes into dark (like brightnes slevel is 1-2%) always became blurry and hardly lost the saturation. I always have to take down the battery.. Wait with it few sec, put back, and reboot the phone... If I dont wait, typically the boot sequence also freezes on the same way (during the logo animation)... When the phone boots up usually works one day long... but maybe just few hour until the next freeze... awkward thing, my phone is already rooted so i dont think i have any guarantee...
Important parameters:
The problem started with android version: 4.2 but 4.2.1 and 4.2.2 the same.
I have: GSM MODEL (YAKJU-MAGURO)
The phone one year old, I never tried to overclock!!!
After I update to 4.2 I needed to use SuperSu because the old superuser no longer worked.
I was thinking on its some problem with supersu? but actually apps freezes on the phone that never needed any root access..
I already tried:
Format the cache
wipe dalvik cache/battery stats
Fix permissions
uninstall and reinstall SuperSu
Now I ran out from ideas. I affraid its a hw problem maybe with the RAM.. I open to try any idea
Thank you in advance

*Originally I posted this in the Help section of the G3 forums but got no help, so I am posting this here*
Hey all,
So I'm posting this thread regarding a couple pretty weird glitches and bugs occurring on my G3, 3 specific ones.
The first: (Probably the least serious but still REALLY annoying) At EXACTLY 12:00AM every night no matter what timezone I set the phone to (I'm in AU on the AEST GMT+10 timezone but it does this at the same time on any timezone) the phone will switch it's WiFi off automatically without warning, reason or explanation. It just goes off and then I have to manually turn it back on. Sure I could use an app such as Tasker or AutomateIt to turn it back on but I don't see why this is occurring in the first place?
The second issue (Most recent): Lately after updating to the V20E firmware for my D855 I've noticed that a graphical glitch (Specifically related to the colour Blue) occurs when there are fast moving elements on my phone's screen (Such as when I move a chat head around on my phone from Messenger, or when I'm scrolling Facebook or my App Drawer fast, there's just a blue box around whatever object/s appear to be moving on my phone's screen. I've not dropped the phone at all, and it has only been present since updating from the V20D ROM. Not sure what could be causing it.
The third and by far the MOST ANNOYING of the issues I'm having, is that for no apparent reason, whenever I am listening to Music with the stock Music player, and I lock the screen (The screen goes off) about 5 seconds later weird stuff starts to happen..
The song will pause, play or even stop completely, seemingly on its own. The "phone" will change songs, artists and sometimes complete albums and playlists completely by itself, with me doing nothing but staring at the lock screen (It keeps doing it until I re-enter the Music app, then when I lock the phone the whole cycle just repeats itself.)
I've done some looking around and careful observations on the phone itself, and it seems that before the weird stuff starts happening to my music, the phone opens Voice Mate by itself, and then if I'm not present, it apparently closes it and then that's when the stuff happens. I've tried everything I can on a non-rooted phone to stop this. I've tried re-installing the Music app, Uninstalling all updates to the Voice Mate and it's packages to the factory version, force-stopping Voice Mate, everything and no matter what I do the phone still opens Voice Mate and the weird stuff starts happening (It's like it's taking commands from Voice Mate to do something but I'm not even doing anything ) It's been doing this since I got my phone when it came with Android KitKat 4.4 (I was on the D10M ROM until I moved to the D20D Android L ROM) and I moved ROMs doing a completely fresh start ( I factory wiped the phone and then upgraded via a CSE flash and put all my stuff back on it manually) and I would've thought a completely fresh start would have fixed it but apparently not... Either it's a bug that's been present for a while, or it's something deeper than the ROM.
So yeah some pretty weird issues, if someone knows what could be causing them, please let me know, especially if you know a way to solve them.
Cheers guys.
I'd do a factory reset for bugs 1 and 2. If that doesn't fix it, then do a clean flash from LG's Flash Tool. Regarding the first one, I think that it may be due to Quiet Mode on your phone? Or possibly even Battery Saver automagically kicking in at 12.
But yeah, backup your data and do a reset. It fixes around 80% of bugs after an update (As a rule of thumb I reset just before and right after an update to avoid any issues.

As I said before I've done a factory reset and complete re-flash via CSE, and nothing has fixed it it's been the same since I updated :/

the WiFi issue seems like its something to do with battery saver/quiet mode (to me anyway). Unless your router is kicking the phone off at that time?
EDIT:
oh and regarding the Voice Mate issue it could be either the jack or your headphones?
