[Q] DHD CM7 just Flashed alone - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm a happy CM7 user, never had the chance to post here but really enjoy the forum. So hi guys
Yesterday, after a normal day using my DHD, I put it on my desk. While doing that - I'm not sure - I may have pressed many times on the pin screen, as the phone was locked for 30 seconds. TBH I really don't know how that could have happened as I have gesture unlocking enabled as well. Anyway.
Then, while waiting for the 30 seconds delay to end, the device rebooted. At the reboot, the unpacking screen was displayed, as if I was just flashing a new rom. Actually, that was exactly what the phone did for me…
So the phone just flashed itself for no reasons, and even though that was quite annoying, everything is fixed now (though, the device was not recognized any more by my Google account, and I struggled a bit to re download all the apps…)
My concern are: how could this happen? is this a known issue? If not who should I report this bug to?
Thanks

Wow, that is weird, never heard of something like this. Here is some info about reporting bugs:
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Howto:_Use_the_Issue_Tracker
Click on Issue Tracker within the first paragraph to report the bug but read that page first.
On another note, when you flash CM7 and Google AddOn the Market will be empty at first, but after some time (30min max?) it will download all the apps you had before. No need to go find each app and redownload manually.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for this Issue Tracker link, I'll check it out asap.
Regarding the app sync, I think it was not working because the device was not recognized by my market account any more, and especially because I didn't flash the Google Add on this time - but used the market straight away…

[PROBLEM] Random freezes/crashes on Desire

Hey,
I know theres a lot of threads about htc/android phones freezing and crashing/rebooting but none of them really described my exact situation. And since it's getting worse and worse and driving me crazy, I wanted to ask for help.
As the title suggests my HTC Desire keeps freezing and crashing (sometimes rebooting, too).
It all probably started shortly before I first rooted my device, following the great sticky noob-tutorial. First problem was, that sometimes my phone wouldn't wake up from standby, especially after I a missed call (rooting didn't solve that problem).
Some time later, now rooted and with a custom ROM, I noticed, that sometimes when I wanted to use my phone, it showed the PIN-screen, which obviously means, that it rebooted quietly (don't remember if this also happened before rooting).
A few days ago it started to completely freeze, when connected to the charger. Orange LED showed it was charging but no reaction to pressing any buttons or disconnect the charger.
Since yesterday it also crashes randomly in standby mode (can't wake it up) or e.g. when watching a video (just freezes the device, no reaction to button-pressing, screen stays on etc.)
now I am running the stability test with the charger connected - no problem for 1h10min til now...
The ROM I am running is the latest cool sense (problems also existed before the latest update)
No modification of CPU (I used to use SetCPU but since I thought that would cause the problems I uninstalled it -> no improvement)
What could be the problem here? (And how can I solve it, of course?)
Anything else than a full wipe, which could help? (that would be my last option...)
Thanks for helping...
it just happened again -.-
I was just backing up some apps with titanium backup and in the middle of scrolling through the list - freeze!
dunno what to do...
is this hardware or software related?...
Hello.
It would be pretty easy if it is a soft problem. This kind of problems are usually dealt with by installing another ROM and see if the problems persist. So if you want to try and eliminate the last option, go and install another ROM, it can be a Stock ROOT-ed ROM, Sense or anything.
The fact that you mentioned your phone was crashing even before rooting got me thinking it is a motherboard fault. I've read some threads in which people had the same problems, and in the end they all got to the same conclusion: motherboard fault. The only resolve with this is to get it to guarantee.
So first of all try installing another ROM and if the problems persist, you will need to install a RUU and see if this one eliminates your problem. If not then I don't know if there is anything else you could do, besides getting it to the guarantee.
I wait for your progress.
Hi,
thanks for your reply.
The funny thing is, that I didnt have those problems with this ROM in the beginning. Everything was fine, that's why I was using it the whole time. But as I said before, it became worse by and by... thats why I thought it could be an app or so...
that would be a recent list of apps: appbrain.com/user/marioiram/
Cannot even sync my newest list, because after freezing while watching a video, it froze again shortly after reboot... still getting worse
Try reinstalling the ROM or installing another ROM.
hm.. just when I was thinking about following your advice, my desire stopped freezing xD
no crash, no freeze oder reboot since my last post.
I even tried to force it by watching videos, playing games, connect to the charger etc.
everything is fine... strange.
Will see for how long
Well this is good news. Just keep in mind what you can do if the rebooting comes back. Hope it doesn't
Well, it did xD
Now even shortly after reboot. I'll try ROM changes as soon as I get home but there's something I noticed: it often freezes when it's supposed to display a whatsapp notification and sometimes it seems there's a problem with the sdcard (just bought a new one because my old one went nuts). Sometimes the notification 'sdcard was removed unexpectedly' (translated from German) is appearing, but after waiting a few minutes everything is fine again...
Well I'll try some stuff when there's time...

Hi:
I just wanto to let you know that I had the same issue, so I decided to send it to SAT, they changed the motherboard...
my problem now (with the new motherboard) is everytime I root my phone and use a cooked ROM, then freezes/crash again... ONLY works with the official ROM...
please let me know if you solved you problem pls... and how? of course...
I copy the link of my post (just in case helps to you)

Hmm... I don't know what i did (nothing, actually) bit since my last post it runs stable... Absolutely nothing like freezing or crashing... Strange
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App

EVERY app, stock or not, continiously resets(closes and reopens).

Ive sort of tried to search this one (How do I search JUST the Epic 4g section of XDA??) and found no one describing this problem the way I do...
This is my second time having this issue, and the fix for it last time was a pain in the ass, so id like a new fix-
Every app, every aspect of my phone, continuously resets/reloads. This is most noticeable with Hancent SMS, as it saves a message as a draft when you close out of the app... Well, right now, ill be typing and "message saved as draft" will constantly pop up at the bottom of the screen (about once every 2 seconds), and the phone will lag and it will erase 1 or two characters(making me look like I cant type :silly: ).
If this was the only problem, maybe I could live with it, but it affects everything. Launcher Pro randomly/continuously resets. The notification bar often resets while trying to pull it down. The phone app will close or freeze as soon as I start receiving a call. Sometimes it'll play my ringtone without a way for me to answer, other times I never knew I missed a call unless they leave a voice mail... And sometimes its worse than others, sometimes its fine for an hour, then something goes stupid and even a reboot doesn't help. For instance, right now, it was happy. I launched aLogcat to check it out and now the screen orientation REFUSES to stay one way. Even setting the phone down, it switches directions every few seconds, which makes aLogcat reload and therefor its unusable.
I haven't mentioned what im running because Ive had this exact same issue on a totally different rom, almost a year ago, but im running-
build - SleeperROM_3.0.0_FC09
kernal - 2.6.35.7-Shadow-FC09_v1.0
baseband - S700.0.5s.FC09
firmware - 2.3.6
Ive had this happen on EB13 on the EpicExperience ROM too.
SOO, if anyone has advice on how to fix this, id be extremely interested.
On the other hand, last time I had this issue I was convinced it was a corrupt piece of memory somewhere early in the OS, something I corrupt during install, and I went ahead and reflashed and wiped and reflashed and wiped and returned to stock and etc. etc. etc... and that seemed to work... actually, I dont know exactly what part of the process fixed it, thats why I do not want to repeat it unless I have to... BUT, if someone would like to explain/point me in the right direction. I'd like to know how to DELETE AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE and FLASH as CLEAN as possible. (that is, if no one else knows of a fix for my problem)
thanks all!
Err, well only thing I can think of is a truly clean install using Odin. This means do not restore any data from backups. Then slowly begin installing applications 1-by-1 through the play store website (for speed sake) to see if your issue creeps up again.
It also couldn't hurt to format your SD card too. Corrupt data on the SD card can cause some wonky things at times.
get another device...i hope u have the equipment protection plan
Thanks for the advice guys OFF TO THE ODIN MACHINE! haha.

Need help unscrewing my system

So the other day the app Widgetsoid releases a "Completely rewritten" update for their sweet app. I was obviously excited to play with this and set about recreating all of my toggles. One toggle I have is to toggle the camera flash on/off which is very handy to have a widget for on the homescreen. Another one I use toggles the screen always on/off which is handy when reading long articles. So I was using the screen always on toggle as a reading light (as the camera LED can be overly bright) when, after some time, my phone locked up. Following my natural instinct I pulled the battery and powered it back on. When it came back on I noticed that the screen always on toggle was still in the "on" position though I believe (honestly can't remember for sure) that the screen was timing out as if it were off. Anyways I put this out of my mind and decided to use the flashlight toggle as the screen hadn't been quite as bright as I wanted. However, upon toggling the flashlight to "on" The toggle froze in mid activation. I could see that I had clicked it but the animation never finished and the flashlight never turned on. I gave it several minutes to sort itself out and when it didn't I did another battery pull thinking that would clear it up. Well it didn't. Upon the phone restarting I was greeted by "Tango has stopped responding". Then when I tried the flashlight toggle again I got "Gallery has stopped responding" which flashed up and disappeared too quickly for me to click on it. I tried opening the camera to no avail. "Gallery has stopped responding". So one bug led to another to another to another as bugs so often do. No biggie, I was planning on doing a factory reset soon anyways so I backed up my data and went ahead with that. Unfortunately, when I finished the setup and went back to the camera app it gave me the same error. (please note that I did not restore anything after the reset.) So I did another just for sanity's sake but no change. I went into the bootloader and into recovery, cleared the cache and then did another factory reset. Nada. I downloaded a flashlight app to see if it could tell me anything new, which it sort of did. "Cannot connect to camera", it said when I turned it on. In my search on this forum for a similar issue I came across a post to a different issue talking about how when an app uses the camera it might not have let go when it was finished which causes problems for other apps. This makes enough sense except that I figured the reset would have resolved that issue. Unless, of course, the problem lies in the hardware which I am desperately hoping someone will tell me is foolish.
I'm not really sure what to try next in my troubleshooting short of unlocking the bootloader and flashing either the stock back over it or another ROM. I would prefer to try other possible solutions before this. Correct me if I'm wrong but shouldn't the factory reset restore the system and stock apps to their default state? Almost literally bit for bit? If that is the case then that means the issue isn't with the system or the camera app and must fall to the camera hardware itself? I feel it is worth noting that on about the third factory reset, during the initial setup (quite literally on the first screen) a popup popped saying "Talk has stopped responding". Why the Talk app would stop responding due to some issue with the camera seems out of place. Though as I said and we all know, bugs have a way of spreading to the places you least expect.
Anyways any help, suggestions or questions would be greatly appreciated. This really has me stumped.
I guess the question it boils down to (besides the three I've already asked) is how can I do a full wipe/reset that will actually reset everything? Or is it that the camera is really hung and if so any possible fixes for that? Anyone see any bright red flags waving violently in the storm?
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide

I would honestly try to flash another ROM. its hard to tell what is exactly causing this prob but I highly highly highly doubt its hardware. Make sure you wipe data and dalvik a couple times and go to mounts and storage and wipe system too. Do those a couple times, I always do just to be sure it works. Then after that try to flash another ROM stock or custom doesnt matter. This will help a lot.
Just a recommendation, I use and LOVE Codename Android Rom. Very very fast and stable with a lot of features.
Anyways, post back when you wipe everything out and flash a new ROM on there and let me know the outcome.
nothing yet...

Just finished flashing the 4.1.1 back and still the same issue (did all of the data wiping). I'll try a custom ROM now though I doubt its going to make any difference.
What in the world has got a hold of my camera?
No dice
"Unfortunately Talk has stopped responding" on the first screen. "Gallery has stopped responding" when trying to open Camera app.
So despite several wipes and two distinct ROM flashes (used PARANOIDANDROID the second time) my device is still acting up.
Please help me out people. What is causing this error that is lasting across ROM flashes? What can I try to resolve this issue?
Rewiped everything and reflashed PARANOIDANDROID (2.23) just to be sure and still the camera doesn't work
seems like perhaps the registers ended up in an odd state.. know this is for a different phone, but you might give it a shot..

Looks like OMAPFlash can do a full reset on all the camera registers from looking at:
./Targets/Definitions/definitions_omap4.txt
in the OMAPFlash zipfile..
It might be worth a shot..
Slide opultl
No dice... I assume you were referring to clearing the cache and data. I had tried this before but gave it another shot anyways. In case you meant the screenshot part, I did that too and the screenshot captures fine but still the camera does not function. Also holding down the volume down and power keys never shuts the phone off I assume that is device specific (though several seconds after the screenshot captured the screen did flash off then on very quickly). I have tried disabling Gallery and rebooting in the hopes that would free up the hardware. Failed.
I am uber stuck on this.
Why is this persisting across flashes and what can I try to resolve it?
edit: just noticed that the bottom of your post was more info and not a signature. I'll look into that. Ran out of "thanks" for today but I'll get you yours
Since it won't delete....
As an update: I have tried contacting both Verizon and Samsung about the issue. Both recommend returning the device under warranty (as was expected). This would be fine except that I LEARN NOTHING! If the Samsung techies have a protocol/enumeration/anything to discover and resolve the issue then so can I (potentially), which means the general public should have this knowledge too, right? WHAT IS MY NEXT STEP?
(still have not yet OMAP_Flash'ed as I haven't found SOLID documentation on this yet.) (Google searching led me somewhere but left me confused. Please post documentation or the correct link if you have it and thank you) I am open to trying anything. Understand that my bottom line is giving Asurion $50 USD. "I LOST my phone, send me a [new] one". Phone gets replaced and I get to trash the old one. Sweet for everyone right? Wrong.
I don't give two runny, stinky butt creams about the phone itself. Which is not entirely, or honestly, even close to true. I'd hate to see a Nexus that can be saved be completely obliterated. If its totally bricked (which its very hard to do to a Nexus) then go for it. Smash that ***** up! But if, like mine, its recoverable then you owe it to the developer to try to save it. This Galaxy Nexus SCH-I515 reminds me of my SCH-a950. I loved that phone and literally (because of a now EX girlfriend) BEAT THE LIVING SNOT OUT OF IT. I literally threw it at my front porch as hard as I could from a good 30 yards away and yet it survived. Not only did it survive, it thrived. Never failing me (even until I finally upgraded) despite the "wear and F'ing tear" I had inflicted upon it.
I have actually dropped my Nexus several times. I have a massively cracked screen that I would love to show you all, yet the screen still functions as if there were no crack. I can click on the "options" toggle that is in the bottom right corner of many apps as if there were not a MASSIVE chunk of screen missing there. The phone is quite amazing. And before anyone says "oh you dropped it, that could have to do with the errors in the camera", NO. The camera worked just fine until what I described above. Samsung has done quite a magnificent job with this device (and all of their hardware, {I own a 26" computer monitor that kicks ass too}) making it resilient to adversity.
Now please, help me out....
I am hesitant to try the OMAP_flash as I haven't found decent documentation. PLEASE PLEASE post a link.
As I said I can always "lose" the phone and get a new one through insurance. So I'm not worried about screwing the phone, I just want to LEARN about the issue at hand.
What do YOU think is causing this issue?
If someone could post a link to the relevant info about the OMAP_flash then I will be happy to go forward with it.
Aside from all this I am shocked at the relative dismissal of this thread. I am seeking information from experienced members who have expertise on this device and while many are available I have gotten no replies as of yet. (this is not to discount those who have replied as I am very grateful for those suggestions as well) Please take two minutes and give me your thoughts. I don't believe this issue is similar to any other posts here and if you do believe it, kindly point me in that direction.

Jesus, will people stop talking about insurance fraud........
It's these kind of people that people in your country have to suffer higher insurance premiums, and the very same group of fraudsters are complaining about high insurance premiums..
Regarding OMAP flash:
1) Remove battery
2) Open device manager
3) Plug your phone to your PC/laptop
4) Right click on OMAP4460, go to properties
5) Drivers tab
6) Update drivers, direct to the OMAP flash folder
7) Run the .bat
8) Reflash a ROM just in case.
I don't think it going to do a reg reset for the camera by default..
This is from: Targets/Definitions/definitions_omap4.txt
CONTROL_CORE_PAD_CAM_GLOBALRESET 0x4A1000C0
It is pulled in and used by:
Targets/Configurations/configuration_omap4460_tuna_8g.txt
CONTROL_CORE_PAD_CAM_GLOBALRESET needs to set for the correct location -- I have not done any digging, so I don't know what the location is..
Just Found this -- https://github.com/omapconf/omapconf/wiki
omapconf can be used to read/write/modify any register from within Android..

Insurance fraud? Um get a life! That's not why their premiums are high you ass! They do it to make more money you jack knob. My company charges $65/yr with a $25 deductible with up to 5 claims a year! That's so much better than asurion. And they give you a piece of **** replacement. Is all about money not the customer...now please me nice. Great ideas come from working together not from being an asshat!

[Q] A Couple VERY Weird Glitches Occurring (Need help please!)

*Originally I posted this in the Help section of the G3 forums but got no help, so I am posting this here*
Hey all,
So I'm posting this thread regarding a couple pretty weird glitches and bugs occurring on my G3, 3 specific ones.
The first: (Probably the least serious but still REALLY annoying) At EXACTLY 12:00AM every night no matter what timezone I set the phone to (I'm in AU on the AEST GMT+10 timezone but it does this at the same time on any timezone) the phone will switch it's WiFi off automatically without warning, reason or explanation. It just goes off and then I have to manually turn it back on. Sure I could use an app such as Tasker or AutomateIt to turn it back on but I don't see why this is occurring in the first place?
The second issue (Most recent): Lately after updating to the V20E firmware for my D855 I've noticed that a graphical glitch (Specifically related to the colour Blue) occurs when there are fast moving elements on my phone's screen (Such as when I move a chat head around on my phone from Messenger, or when I'm scrolling Facebook or my App Drawer fast, there's just a blue box around whatever object/s appear to be moving on my phone's screen. I've not dropped the phone at all, and it has only been present since updating from the V20D ROM. Not sure what could be causing it.
The third and by far the MOST ANNOYING of the issues I'm having, is that for no apparent reason, whenever I am listening to Music with the stock Music player, and I lock the screen (The screen goes off) about 5 seconds later weird stuff starts to happen..
The song will pause, play or even stop completely, seemingly on its own. The "phone" will change songs, artists and sometimes complete albums and playlists completely by itself, with me doing nothing but staring at the lock screen (It keeps doing it until I re-enter the Music app, then when I lock the phone the whole cycle just repeats itself.)
I've done some looking around and careful observations on the phone itself, and it seems that before the weird stuff starts happening to my music, the phone opens Voice Mate by itself, and then if I'm not present, it apparently closes it and then that's when the stuff happens. I've tried everything I can on a non-rooted phone to stop this. I've tried re-installing the Music app, Uninstalling all updates to the Voice Mate and it's packages to the factory version, force-stopping Voice Mate, everything and no matter what I do the phone still opens Voice Mate and the weird stuff starts happening (It's like it's taking commands from Voice Mate to do something but I'm not even doing anything ) It's been doing this since I got my phone when it came with Android KitKat 4.4 (I was on the D10M ROM until I moved to the D20D Android L ROM) and I moved ROMs doing a completely fresh start ( I factory wiped the phone and then upgraded via a CSE flash and put all my stuff back on it manually) and I would've thought a completely fresh start would have fixed it but apparently not... Either it's a bug that's been present for a while, or it's something deeper than the ROM.
So yeah some pretty weird issues, if someone knows what could be causing them, please let me know, especially if you know a way to solve them.
Cheers guys.
I'd do a factory reset for bugs 1 and 2. If that doesn't fix it, then do a clean flash from LG's Flash Tool. Regarding the first one, I think that it may be due to Quiet Mode on your phone? Or possibly even Battery Saver automagically kicking in at 12.
But yeah, backup your data and do a reset. It fixes around 80% of bugs after an update (As a rule of thumb I reset just before and right after an update to avoid any issues.

I'd do a factory reset for bugs 1 and 2. If that doesn't fix it, then do a clean flash from LG's Flash Tool. Regarding the first one, I think that it may be due to Quiet Mode on your phone? Or possibly even Battery Saver automagically kicking in at 12.

As I said before I've done a factory reset and complete re-flash via CSE, and nothing has fixed it it's been the same since I updated :/

Yeah I thought that but I wanted to know if anyone here has had the same issues.

the WiFi issue seems like its something to do with battery saver/quiet mode (to me anyway). Unless your router is kicking the phone off at that time?
EDIT:
oh and regarding the Voice Mate issue it could be either the jack or your headphones?

Strange [and serious] lag issue, please help

I had my Pixel 2 XL since first release, running stock releases updated each month, stock kernel, and using Magisk. I also have a Pixel 2, configured exactly the same way as the 2 XL and the exact same apps. Apps are updated at the same time, same for patch releases. I carry both and use them interchangeably each day. They provide carrier/coverage diversity and allow for a longer day without charge.
A few days ago, with no known reason, my 2 XL started exhibiting a very strange lag behavior. In trying to resolve the issue, I have tried clearing Dalvik, flashing back to February, re-flashing March, and today flashing to April. I have also cleared certain app data and tried a custom kernel Nothing has helped. The problem does not exist on P2.
The lag I have observed so far:
1) I use the Google Calendar "agenda" widget. On boot, the widget is blank and shows "loading" and can take 10 or 15 minutes for the agenda items to populate (as opposed to immediately upon start up).
2) Playstore app updates: It downloads the app, but seemingly hangs and the update is VERY VERY slow.
3) On flashing the April patch, on first boot, the "Completing Android update" notification progress bar took about 45 minutes to complete (as opposed to a few seconds like it should).
4) I use Lightflow. On launching the app, I keep getting "app not responding" message. If I keep tapping "wait", it will eventually load. It is just loading VERY slowly.
I firmly believe that all of these issues are related to a single problem, like a system resource that causing these lags. At this time, I cannot update apps because it would take hours just to update one app.
I really don't want to do a factory reset if I can help it. Too many things to reconfigure, even with TiBu. Does anyone have any idea as to what might be the cause? I would really appreciate any input.
Thanks.

I don't have a good answer for you my friend other than trying to run it in Safe mode for a while to see if it helps. Other than that, only other thing you probably can do is a factory reset, which, I know, bites the big one!

Thanks for that suggestion! The only condition I was able to test was to update apps. It went fine in Safe Mode. I rebooted back into regular mode and app update would hang. Based on what I read, the culprit would be a 3rd-party app?
I looked through all the apps that were updated in the past few days and do not see an app that would have the sort of large impact. There is no abnormal CPU utilization. Keep in mind that my Pixel 2 has the exact same apps and are updated at the same time. It has no such issues. I'm still lost.
The only update that could have an impact is Google Play Services. I'm on beta 12.5.21. Again, no issues w/ Pixel 2. I assume others don't have issues, we would otherwise heard about it by now.
Edit: Does safe mode run the ROM version of the Google Play Services?

Yeah the only slowdown I've ever had was I think right before the February update. I never restart my phone or let it die so I had been 25+ something days of uptime. Restart was all I needed and it was the only 25+ days uptime that had any slowdown. I'm stock and only beta app I'm running is LastPass.

Considering the affected apps (Google Calendar agenda widget, Lightflow, Playstore "install" process, etc.). What do all these have in common?

Did you ever figure this out?
I'm still on March and have started having this issue. It's related to charging the device. Whenever I charge (and even after pulling off the charger) Lightflow becomes extremely laggy. Also, installing apps from the Play store exhibits the behavior you described in OP. Interacting with notifications is very laggy as well (i.e. - tap a notification to open the corresponding app, and the notification disappears and nothing happens...then 2 minutes later the app opens). This goes on until a reboot. After that, everything is fine until I charge again. Which, fortunately for me, is only once every 3 days.
Was not having this issue until recently and have been on March for a few weeks.

I have not, unfortunately. The Playstore app install has, for the most part, resolved itself, but the hang does return from time to time. Lightflow is still a problem. I wrote the dev but there is no response. The other issue is the Google Calendar agenda widget. It takes 10-20 minutes to load on reboot. Mind you, the month widget works just fine.
Take a look at these threads:
https://forums.androidcentral.com/moto-z-force/803793-calendar-widget-doesnt-load-data.html
https://forums.androidcentral.com/google-pixel-pixel-xl/855985-screen-widget-loading-8-1-boot.html
They describe similar issues. I've also found other, similar observations but with no resolve.
I am on April and have tried a custom kernel. No joy.
Edit: Since I cannot test the calendar widget nor Lightflow in Safe Mode, I don't know if it actually is a system-related issue.
Edit 2: I do see a strange connection with charging, especially with Playstore installations and lags.

The only widget I use is the Fit step counter. That has always taken a minute or so to even show up on the home screen after a boot (8.0/8.1) for me. I don't feel it's related to my issue as that has persisted through all software versions I've used so far.
I'm beginning to think the lightflow issue is just that....a lightflow issue and it is affecting notifications, globally. And, it is somehow tied to charging state. I've seen lightflow do some weird crap over the years. I remember a simple gmail update caused lightflow to send my then device (htc tbolt) into constant reboots.

Well sir, you are EXACTLY correct. Based on your ideas, I disabled Lightflow and rebooted my phone. All was back to normal. Once I re-enabled LF, the problems came back. Thank you very much for pointing out your observations. I would have not considered LF to be the source of the problem, but it is now so clear. Again, I can't thank you enough (I'll "thank" both of your posts)!
I will try clearing the LF data to see if that solves the problem. I will report back.

Light Manager might be a viable alternative for you if LF doesn't play nice for you. Works great without any lag issues :good:

Well, that's not exactly the news I wanted to hear lol.. I've tried light manager before and didn't like it at all. Light flow is kind of a crucial app for me. I guess I will just charge the device in the off state. Everything works fine until it gets charged overnight.
Now that you've sort-of confirmed light flow as the cause, I wonder if it might have to do with the charge state hooking. Do you have charging/charged profiles set up in light flow? If it's as simple as removing those, I could deal. I'm at work so can't really afford to test it right now.

I first endured the slowness and made a LF backup. Then 1) I cleared the data and rebooted the phone without launching LF, the phone restarted normally, calendar widget was fine, 2) launched LF and granted notification access, restarted phone, all was well, 3) restored from LF backup, restarted, all is still well and LF launches fine. Corrupted data?
At least I'll know what to do next time. For your similar issue, just make a LF backup, clear data, reboot, restore, and hopefully it resolves the issue for you. Let me know.
Edit: Regarding your question on charge state hooking--I had LF running for many years and on the Pixel 2 XL since new. The problem only surfaced recently. My Pixel 2 is also fine. I would guess that there was bad data somewhere. Like I wrote above, a reset/restore brought everything back as before.

Yeah, I went through all of that last week. I went from the newest version back to the last known stable (for me) version. I always keep a back up of the settings txt file as well as a TiBu file. My current version (previous stable) was installed from scratch.
Everything was fine for the first two or so weeks on March build. This just started after I applied the libs from the multi-touch fix. I removed that as I had hoped it would be related to the phantom swiping when scrolling (I don't game on the device) but it doesn't seem to be related the swiping. At first I thought that module was causing the issue as it started the day or two after adding it. That's the only change I have really made since setting up the March build. Not sure why it would just start out of the blue when it had been working fine for at least 2 weeks before.
I'll try some things over the next few days. First thing is going to be removing the charging profiles from light flow and see if that makes a difference.
Have you tried hooking up the charger since cleaning your data?
If removing charging profiles doesn't help, I'm going to reflash March build (removing -w from batch file) to both slots, redo twrp, elx kernel, magisk. I may do this anyway, even if removing charging from light flow fixes it.

I have connected/disconnected a generic charger twice and once connected to a PC (slow charge). So far, still all good. The problem began in late/mid March. The April patch did not solve the problem. I am using Magisk. Stock/ElementalX made no difference. I will see if the problem resurfaces.
The likely cause that there are code issues with LF. I had LF slow down regardless of charger connection so I'm curious to know if removing the charging hooks help. I'm on the latest version.
Just curious--what not go to the April patch?

I'm an "if it ain't broke" kinda guy. Everything except the phantom swipes has been perfect on March build. At this point I'm convinced the swiping issue is due to LG and therefore nothing to be done about it. I'm getting too old to flash a new ROM every week like I used to

Gotcha! Since my last post, I have connected/disconnected charger five times. Each time with several minutes of wait time in between. I have also tested functionality while the charger is plugged in. All still good.
One side note, I have noticed, with many phones, that strange and undesirable things happen when you connect the charge while the phone is mid-boot. In my situation, the LF problem may have surfaced because of that.

Well for me I was just charging normally. Hope it holds up for you. If so I'll do a clean install again and setup from scratch.
Try clearing excess text messages and cache for apps. A friend of mine had thousands of text messages and social media buildup, and the phone got very slow and buggy, especially the camera app. After deleting thousands of texts, switching to Textra, clearing the app cache for frequently used apps, the phone is back to very fast again.
