Is anyone else having issues with Hulu working smoothly? I have three 1st gen Fire TVs. Two wireless and one ethernet. All are experiencing little pauses during playback. I have a 150mbps connection through Fios, so I have plenty of bandwidth.
Yep it started when Hulu updated their app for Fire OS 5 compatibly

Does anyone know if an old version exists somewhere? I don't mind sideloading it.

I've had a Chromecast since the device was launched and mirroring was really the one thing I wished that device did. I find that streaming from my phone or tablet to be slow on that, overall, so I was intrigued with the Amazon Fire TV launched and Koush was able to get mirroring to work with very little latency. He praised the Fire TV for being having better streaming quality and capabilities than Chromecast, Roku, or Apple TV, when streaming media from Android devices.
I then saw the YouTube video him using the mirroring features from the app AllCast on his Amazon TV and it looked flawless. He advertised that mirroring was available via the app, but I haven't actually run across anyone that has been able to get this to work using his apps. On top of that, I've had problems with my phone (HTC One) or tablet (Nexus 7 1st Gen) recognizing my Fire TV when connected through my Comcast router. It seems to work via my Amped Wireless Router, but not Comcast, for whatever reason.
Next, streaming seems very poor overall. buffering times are no better than what I was getting with my Chromecast using the AllCast app.
Has anyone had better luck with AllCast and their Fire TV? Has anyone gotten mirroring to work? If so, how?
I've been posting on the Google+ page here and have not had any luck.

For me it worked right at least sending videos and photos, the connection between my nexus 5 and FTV was quick, but I didn't try the mirror. I'm using for router an asus rt-ac66u and is coneccted wired.
It doesn't work very well for higher quality/HD video streaming - buffer and lag issues. It is good for photos and whatnot though. Using my S4 and the Fire.

I had some major issues when I first got it. Was visiting my in-laws this weekend and bought the Amazon Fire TV to be able to share pictures and videos of our baby with family. I spent 2 hours trying to get my AllCast to recognize the Amazon Fire TV and Allcast app on the device, no luck. didn't work with my Nexus 7 as well. I ended up resorting to uploading my pictures to Amazon Cloud Drive and showed the pictures/vidoes that way. The buffering time was horrible for videos, though.
When we finally got home Sunday night, I tried it on our TV and noticed I had the same issue when connecting to my Comcast router (same one my MIL has at her house). Luckily I have a separate router I use as a Wifi extender, so was able to get it to recognize my Fire TV with that connection.
Overall, I haven't been very impressed with the Fire TV, as compared to my Roku, Chromecast, or my dad's Apple TV. The one "must have" feature I wanted that this one seemed to have, as well as the apps and other features, was mirroring Android. If I'm not able to get that to work similar to how Koush was able to in his YouTube video, I'll probably pack it up and take it back to Best Buy for a return. Bummer, because it is a nice device, just already have too many other devices that do the same thing.
The AllCast app is finally available on Amazon Appstore (with the optional premium in app purchase) to work with AllCast for Fire TV app. Finally I can use my Amazon coins for something other than games!
AllCast and Amazon's version of Youtube have the ability to cast from Android devices to the Fire TV, just like Chromecast. They work great!
Is anyone else having issues with Hulu and Netflix freezing. I would be watching Hulu and the video will freeze and the audio will continue to play. Then after several seconds the video will catch up. I am running 100mb internet speed so I know its not my connection. The Prime videos run perfect but Hulu and Netflix have issues. I contacted Hulu and they couldn't fix anything. I have done 2 factory resets trying to fix this. Anyone else have this problem?
Do you have Comcast by any change? They love to slow down netflix connections. Can you check if you have the same issue on other platforms?
Actually yes I am... Neither of my Fire Tv's (both rooted running 51.1.0.2) will stream Hulu or Netflix, but internet is working on them. I have OTA's blocked on my Fire TV. Thinking of just updating it. Thoughts? Suggestions?
When I first rooted mine, I was having issues with Hulu. Once I uprooted it, it started working again. Try unrroting one of the and see if any changes.

This Fixed It For Me
I finally read somewhere that you can change the display settings for the Fire TV from 1080P to 720P. Now that I have done that I have watched 3 movies and 4 episodes on both Netflix and Hulu without any issues Hopefully if you are having any issues this will fix it for you.
Where'd you read that? If it makes Netflix request the lower-res streams that could definitely have an effect.
My TVs aren't 1080p anyway.
E: Nevermind, found it here:

Move netflix and hulu apps to the sd card (install an sd card if you don't have one). Solved the problem for me.

I was wondering, do you know if the problem has gone away?
BBC iPlayer doesn't seem to like my Fire TV. It starts off fine, but after a wile the spinning wheel of death appears and it kills the box altogether.
I have no problems at all with Amazon videos.

Works perfectly on the Fire TV 2, so I presume it's okay on OS 5 now.

Pardon my stupid question, but which one is the Fire TV 2? I am not sure which one I have, although I purchased it just before the latest model came out, so some three months ago.

You have Fire TV 1.
I have just written to the BBC (that was a full time job... they couldn't have hidden the contact details any better...). Let's see what they say.
Anyone know which version of Kodi is actually working on the Fire TV 2? I can't seem to find a version that is stable. Kodi just seems to run very poorly on my rooted Fire TV 2. Sometimes it won't open, and when it does it seems to be real laggy. Streaming from any of the addons is hit or miss as far as buffering. Even playing movies from my NAS is real buggy. I can play a movie using another app fine, but in Kodi the same movie won't even play. I use SPMC on my Fire TV 1 but SPMC won't work at all on the Fire TV 2.
I have the latest KODI beta running fine on my TV2.
A few add ons buffer for a long time, but I think that's the add on rather than the TV2.
HD files playback OK from local sources.

I'm actually running into the same issues. The funny thing is, I'm running zero cache. Half of the movie will load fine, then it goes into lag shutdown. The zero cache worked for a short time but now back to the lag buffering. I realize that these files are streamed from alternate servers and they may be under stress...however, it worked fine once before. Does the Jarvis release target this issue?
I'm running black box on kodi on my FTV2 box no issues
I've run in to similar problems, Kodi seems to reset itself back to stock all the time and it's driving me mad. It was fine before root.

Thanks for the feedback. I will check but I may be on the latest Kodi since I installed it from FireStarter. Kodi and SPMC play fine on my rooted Fire TV 1. As do other streaming apps.
Thanks
Hey there,
I am really stuck with the Amazon Fire Tablet. Since Amazon is giving them away for around 30 EUR I thought that might make an excellent remote for my TV. The idea is, that I stream everything via my Chromecast.
It works fine wit Plex and other Apps. Only Netflix seems not to support Chromecast when it runs on any Amazon device. I read somewhere here, that the netflix app checks the name of the device in the build.prop and if it figures out it is an Amazon device it will not offer Chromecast as an option.
My problem is, that I am on Fire OS 5.3.2.1, and as far as I know this version cannot be rooted.
Does anyone know a way how to change the name of the device in the build.prop without rooting the device?
Or is there perhaps another way to get Netflix and Chromecast running on the Fire Tablet?
Many thanks
Ilja
