Hello guys, I need a asap help and will be very thankful for guidance.
I recently bought a used HTC one M8 Gold 32GB, it is in pristine condition, just weeks used, but when I came home and did a reset I realized that it was a rooted phone. But then I discovered that there were some apps like Sprint Worldwide and there were many instances where I found Sprint written, (I have no SIM installed and neither do we have Sprint in our country). So I ended up assuming that it was rooted by the original user solely to unlock the device? I am currently in 4.4.2 and unable to update as it keeps stucking on checking screen. Now I want to revert the device to its original condition and need help doing that. I heard that it can be done by installing RUU so I went to:
htc . com / us / support/rom-downloads
and downloaded: 4.25.651.18 (assuming it is a Sprint)
and then placed it in the sdcard but after HBOOT takes some loading time, it just says invalid image. I have also tried renaming it with no hope.
the bootloader is Locked/ M8_WHL PVT SHIP S-OFF.

First you need to post the results of fastboot getvar all. REMOVE your serial and IMEI numbers from the pasted info before posting. We need to see hopefully the firmware that is currently on the device.
If it is Sprint and you have downloaded the correct RUU file, you do NOT put it on the SD card, you leave it on your Windows PC, attach the device to the PC with USB cable and run the RUU as administrator in Windows. Before that, download HTC Sync Manager and let it install, then delete it. It will leave behind the HTC drivers which you need.

And for your 2nd paragraph part, all done as you said, have installed everything and then uninstalled the htc sync as well, now jus waiting for you to confirm which version is my M8, if it is Sprint as you say, then I will flash it right away (I know risk is on me).

It's definitely Sprint but the firmware is ancient. Run the RUU file and hopefully it will go thru. If not, we'll have to find a way to update your firmware one at a time, but as you are S-OFF it will be easy enough as long as we can find the firmwares.
Sprint RUU can be found Here, this is the latest Lollipop version.
Get your phone into fastboot mode and simply run the RUU .exe file while your phone is plugged into the computer via USB.

Sprint is CDMA. No doubt about it. The CDMA version M8 supports CDMA, GSM and HSPA, but not as many HSPA bands as the "pure" GSM M8 (basically any version except Sprint and Verizon).
What bands does your carrier use for 3G (HSPA)? I'm guessing that your carrier uses bands not supported by the Sprint version. In which case, you are out of luck. The Sprint (or Verizon) version is not recommended for anyone outside the US, and not on the specific (Sprint or Verizon) carrier.
You can't flash RUU, radio, or firmware from other versions to Sprint (even with s-off). As mentioned, the flash will either fail or brick the phone.

I have changed my CID and MID. And btw can any one of you tell why the International version + Developer/Unlocked are still on 5.0.1 unlike the (my) Sprint version's 5.0.2 ...? Due to this issue, currently I am unable to flash any other lower (but international for 3G support) version of RUU exe regardless of me being on compatible CID/MID.

Never ever install an intl version/dev edition to your sprint device. It may brick it.
Where is your region currently ? Which country ?
Maybe change of these helps :

Ok, found this to be a recurring question here at the forum and read through as many posts as I could. Unfortunately none seem to be quite what I need...
Bought a rooted Verizon 4G HTC One and it was working kind of fine with the rom it came though I wanted to try the Google Play one.
Well it didn't work - and - I accidentally wiped the original rom installer (was a NuSense). Now it bootloops with every other rom I've tried. Last one being NOS 1.0.2 m7wlv Google Play Edition - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2416875 )
My device information (from the bootloader screen):
Code:
M7_WLV PVT SHIP S-OFF RH
CID-11111111
HBOOT-1.54.0000
RAID-4T.21.3218.21
OpenDSP-v31.120.274.0617
OS-1.10.605.10
eMMC-boot 2048MB
Sep 9 2013,11:53:38.0
And the recovery is
Code:
Team Win Recovery Project v2.6.3.2
Please someone put me out of this misery
thanks!
I've been doing some tinkering and I'm about to try some other roms - not really specific ones to m7wlv though.
Found some posts of people blaming on TWRP version used causing similar problem.
Was worried though: by Team Win's page I couldn't find a m7wlv specific recovery (for 2.7 or any other). They do have a simple "M7" version... is it safe to install that one?
I'm worried that if I break the recovery mode, I won't be able to upload files not even with ADB, thus meeting the fine brick stage for the device.
thoughts?
Update to the newest twrp 2.6.3.4 and try again. http://vzw1files.dyndns.org/RECOVERIES/twrp/openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.4-m7vzw.img

I am confused now. Not sure which firmware should I update to. My phone is a M7_WLV, however it is a GSM phone - this is the opposite a this blog post (cant add the URL) says:

Thanks a lot cmlusco! I managed to get some of the ROMs working now. Still, my phone isn't connecting to the GSM network - over configurations I see CDMA items, so I think I either updated the wrong firmware or still have to update.
I've tried the same rom you show in your signature (since you seem to have the same phone - which by the way, is it GSM or CDMA?), but it reboots during these "welcome" screen after the SO loads up.
Could you hint me which firmware are you using?
thanks!
f.
What country are you in, and who is your wireless provider?
The Verizon One (like most smartphones Verizon releases these days) is a GSM + CDMA hybrid that supports GSM out of the box unlocked for global roaming. It's still meant to be used on Verizon's CDMA network though - that means support for just a few 2G GSM bands and no 3G HSPA as far as we can tell.
So no, there's only one M7_WLV and that's the CDMA Verizon One. GSM support on this phone is really just an added bonus. If you're not in the US and don't use them, I'd recommend you exchange it with the international model, or at least an AT&T or T-Mobile model so you get proper GSM support.
Thank you all!
Finally managed.
Updated latest firmware version and recovery and all started working again!
cheers lads,
f.

First .. we need to know your device current hboot, CID, MID & etc.
Put your device in bootloader mode and connect to PC and open a command prompt from where you have your fastboot/adb files. then run this command in the command prompt
fastboot getvar all
copy the result and post here but delete the IMEI no & Serial no.
If you don't have fastboot/adb installed, read this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317790

Hmmm... m8_ul_ca ... means it's not a HKG device and not a EU device
If I'm not wrong m8_ul_ca is either AT&T or Developer Edition device. (m8_ul_ca I believe is a US device)
but previously S-Offed to change the MID to EU and SuperCID.
And that's explain your 4G problem in your country, most probably is the radio band version which I'm not familiar with.
@redpoint73 - can you help on this radio matter as you are more expert on this
You can try either using EU 4.16.401.10 RUU.exe - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=56140330&postcount=1
you need to relock bootloader and make backup of your internal storage important data as this will wipe everything
Or you install latest TWRP and restore 4.16.401.10 backup (no need to relock bootloader)
then check whether your 4G is working or not.

Ironically, the radio number is neither for AT&T or Dev Edition. But actually matches what is listed for the Euro RUU you linked:

To the OP, what country are you in?
Who is your carrier, and do you know what LTE bands they use?
You asked about a ROM then you ask me to link a ROM ...
that's something that I cannot do because I don't use any of those custom ROMs as I'm on my own made ROM (including SkyDragon is part of my ROM).
I believe all ROMs are good. You just need to try all of them and see which is best suit you. SkyDragon you have 4G problem.. then try MaximusHD, LeeDroid, Viper, InsertCoin & etc.
Maybe try MaximusHD first as this is close to stock custom ROM so less modding/tweaking for you to handle.
You need to see whether 4G is working on this ROM then later try other ROM too ... that's all

I agree, its really strange the product ID (m8_ul_ca is for AT&T) does not match the MID (0P6B110) on back of the phone.
The phone was also likely s-off previously, as the CID was clearly changed (to SuperCID) and the MID listed in the getvar output is 0P6B100 (also probably changed by the previous owner).

Yeah .. believe that's the case .. and I guess on the back of the phone it is written as M8x as 0P6B110 usually for M8x.
But product ID is m8_ul_ca suggests the back cover is most probably just a replacement cover.

Ah yes, a replacement cover, what makes much more sense now!
So its most likely an AT&T variant, with replacement back cover, that was previously s-off, changed to Euro MID, SuperCID, and Euro firmware flashed (maybe all Euro software before the OP started modding it).
I recommend again that the OP verify that his carrier is using bands that are supported by the Euro version (at least tell us what country, carrier, and what LTE bands that carrier uses, if known). My guess is "no" and in which case, OP will probably need to s-off and flash the proper radio that supports the required LTE bands.

I always wonder if a device was S-Offed with SunShine by the previous owner, then the new owner use SunShine to S-Off again, I think the SunShine apk will run and will not request for payment.
What I know SunShine should work on the same device multiple times provided the motherboard is not changed.
Something for OP to try.

Hello guys, I flashed CM13 (himaul GSM) to Chinese M9W (this is my first htc phone), and i thought it will work welll, but it didn't go well than i except. Now It doesn't recognize SIM card, IMEI number anymore. After that I realized I deleted 2 days ago TWRP backups of my M9W.
It's board number is himauhl. Same version as European M9. But with different CID, HTCCN_701.
I can't found suitable RUU to my HTC M9W with HTCCN_701 CID. I found but it was in Chinese, I couldn't understand anything so I am not sure it's cid suitable to mine. Link: http://htcui.com/8812.html
If you guys know how to find suitable rom (RUU) to this CID, I will appreciate to you guys. Thanks for reading.
I think you must wait for the ruu for your device and region.

I did a lot of research, and I learned all phones shipped with hima_uhl has got same motherboard (doesn't matter the region), including same Modem in SoC. So, I did S-OFF on USB with a guy who has special toolkit (he doesn't let me the see toolkit), It costs something like 10 Euro. I changed CID to HTC_M27 (Turkish CID), Installed European lollipop RUU and flashed International (hima_uhl) Modem via TWRP. Now it Works like a charm.
I hope this tutorial helps other people who have M9W and cannot able to find solution, BTW thanks for your answer

After you installed latest European RUU available with compatible CID, you need to mount all partitions and flash this file to get RIL functions working. Also after doing this you can also install European device compatible AOSP Roms.
Link: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24438995911968592
In my opinion set CID to 11111111 to bypass any soft bricks. I flashed with Turkish CID because my friend wanted to. I prefer using 11111111.

I now got 1111111.
Next step is flashing the european ruu? Can you give me a link for it?
By the way my phone don't recognize sim card because its locked to sprint, this will override my problem? And the phone will no brick?

Hey guys! I´ve got my 10 S-off'ed and model changed from HTC__060 (Indian) to HTC_001 (WWE), re-locked bootloader and tried to run RUU but get error 155 (latest RUU http://dl3.htc.com/application/RUU_...17.2.exe?_ga=1.123429256.280992434.1479770968 ).
I'm currently on 1.95.400.3 , I´m trying to run RUU as it's the easiest way to get everything back to stock. MID was and stills being 2PS620000 . Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!
btw I assume I won't get any radio issues, am I right?

I duno why ypu would relock bootloader but anyways the RUU you are trying to flash is for US devices. Seeing you changed cid to WWE you need the latest x.xx.401.x RUU. it can be found in a zip you can rename the zip to 2PS6IMG.zip and place on external sd card, boot to downlaod mode and follow the prompts. Atm i dont think the latest is available but just flash the newest you can find then take the ota.

The radio is included in RUU. I dont know if your network will be effected or not, you will have to find out yourself. You can flash a different radio if need be.

you can always flash the HTC__060 radio.img after the International RUU (1.xx.401.x) and see if that gives you service.
I know for Verizon, we can flash the US Unlocked RUU (1.xx.617.x) and then the latest Verizon radio.img and it gives working service.
I would:
1) flash latest .401 RUU
2) boot and see if you have service
3) if not boot to download mode and:
fastboot flash radio HTC__060_radio.img

Finally ended up booting into download mode setting cid to BS__001 and set MID 2PS650000 before running US Unlocked/ Developer RUU. I can only get 3.5G (also called as H+ or 4G). But I'm not able to get LTE. I'm from Argentina (South America), and my M9 from T-Mobile works great on LTE. Now on the HTC 10 I'm actually on 1.96.617.20. Any thoughts? As I runned that RUU I would see no reason on flashing Verizon radio, I'm I right? Thanks!

I think you are correct, but I have no idea. I would flash a ROM such as Viper, Leedroid, Ice, etc.. and choose T-Mobile. This will add into the ROM the necessary components to help get you LTE. Right now you are on the RUU Stock US Unlocked 1.96.617.20 ROM, so it isn't going to fully support T-Mobile.
(What is your carrier? Why do you ask about flashing Verizon radio? Only flash Verizon radio if you are on Verizon network)
--It sounds as though you are on T-Mobile network, so first step flash ROM that supports T-Mobile as mentioned above, and if need, we can try flashing the T-Mobile radio.img next.

Hey! My M9 was debranded from T-Mobile to Dev Edition. And still worked like a charm. I'm on Movistar Argentina, LTE bands here are AWS 4 and band 28. Don't see the reason it ain't working to be honest, maybe a config problem? First time I ever buy an European variant.

You may not get those bands because of hardware. I think this has been mentioned before especially with band 28

I thought of following this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-m9/general/how-to-change-network-bands-gsm-devices-t3135401 maybe it's locked? Thanks!
I've bought second hand m9 , this last was flashed and rooted because I found supersu integrated with it, the problem is some settings are missing comparing with regular m9 like mobile network sharing for example, is there a way to fix the problem?
First of all, never use a second hand device without reinstalling the whole OS. I factory resetted my M9 right after buying it. (And rooted it, etc...)
Just look at you CID and MID and find the latest RUU for your phone and install it.
Maybe the person that had it before removed the certain settings, because the HTC settings app is quite modular from what i've seen. The settings app is split into many apps. Probably when debloating it he accidentally deleted that. (For example, if you install HTC's chinese performance management tool, a new setting will pop up in the settings app. Same with Sense Toolbox)
Or if is already rooted, just install S-Team ROM (sun_dream's ROM).
where can i find cid mid numbers?
and what is the best rom should i install?

I suggest you first install stock rom.
I have been searching for a while for how to update the rom image
I checked my phone and I found the following information:
***unlocked***
htc_himawhl pvt s-off
cid-11111111
os-3.41.651.4
feb 3 2016
I believe that my phone was for developers, so I downloaded devRUU "HTC One M9 4.30.617.12" from HTC website and I tried to install it but I got error 132 (get the correct RUU...)
I switched to another RUU "HTC One M9 4.27.651.4", but I got the same error error 132
I've tried to get my CID and MID numbers using CMD but I've got nothing, it shows me:
CID:
MID:
nothing, blank, no information. after some research I realized that it was CID free "unlocked"
the main question is, how can I upgrade my system to get my full setting options? I appreciate your help
Forget whatever you read. It's wrong and you should thank whichever god you believe in that the dev edition RUU didn't get flashed.
First of all, you own the Sprint version (SKU 651) which is a CDMA device. The dev edition RUU (SKU 617) is meant to be used on GSM devices only. Those are two completely different technologies used by different US network carriers. Flashing GSM files on CDMA devices or vice versa leads to unrecoverable hardware damages in most cases since those versions have different partition layouts. It's not even safe to flash Verizon (another CDMA carrier) files on a Sprint device or vice versa since even these models use different layouts.
Second, there is no such thing as an HTC phone without CID. The dev/"unlocked" version has CID BS_US002. If the app doesn't give you any info then it's not working. In addition, it's recommended to use the current firmware version for finding the correct RUU instead of MID and CID. With the latter you still need to guess a lot whereas the former gives you the exact version of the RUU that is flashable.
Btw, you should get rid of the SuperCID your phone is currently using (11111111) since it causes more problems than benefit.
You'll never be able to flash a 4.x RUU on a phone that uses firmware 3.x. The encryption keys changed between those two firmware versions. You'll need to update the phone by using unencrypted files (OTAs or - if you have S-OFF - custom made 4.x firmware packs). You should have S-OFF since getting the SCID is impossible without it (the same applies to getting rid of it). However, Sneakyghost doesn't support CDMA devices so I don't know whether there are any custom firmware packs you could use.
If I were you I'd take the time to carefully read the ReadMe thread and to make sure that I understand everthing. Then I'd use the conversion guide for getting rid of the SCID (you can ignore the warnings if you use a RUU for your current SKU 651). Afterwards, that phone should be able to receive 4.x OTAs so that it can get updated to the latest firmware.
Sidenote in regard to the original question with the missing settings: I could be wrong but if I'm not mistaken then it's completely normal that Sprint models lack the network sharing option since that carrier doesn't allow it and therefore asked HTC to remove that option.
what a wonderful explanation, it's all clear, thanks a lot!
one more question,
how do i know for sure that my M9 is CDMA and has not been only changed to sprint rom version ?
I've googled for the differences between CDMA and GSM, I found that CDMA network basically depends on the device itself, whereas the GSM network depends on the SIM card. However the Sprint HTC One M9 had a nano sim slot in it in order to connect to GSM 3G and 4G bands, which were not devloped yet in CDMA networks. if this is right, could I still use my GSM network through 3g or 4g?
Since LTE is a GSM-only technology there are not many "pure" CDMA devices, anymore. Nowadays, all CDMA phones support Sim cards and some GSM frequencies. However, that doesn't mean that you can get reception with every GSM carrier if you own a CDMA phone since different carriers use different frequencies. In addition, one and the same carrier might even be using different frequencies for its network depending on the location. You'll have to try out whether you can get mobile reception with your current carrier and that phone.
Assuming that no one tinkered with the hardware of that phone, you can find out its original MID by taking a look at the engraving on the bottom of the back side (c.f. the FAQ of the ReadMe thread).
Sent from my HTC One M9 using XDA Labs
It's written :
Model:0PJA120 FCC ID:NM80PJA120 M9u
2200
actually the phone can read my gsm sim card, I have no problem with that except I want to make sure if it is CDMA version or not
I've looked everywhere in the internet but I didn't find a direct answers
Mhm... That MID belongs to the T-Mobile US (GSM) model. But your firmware is a CDMA one. The question is whether your phone still has its original backplate or not. Normally, cross-flashing GSM and CDMA will make the phone failing to recognize sim cards.
You could contact HTC and ask them whether they can tell you what kind of M9 you own with the help of its IMEI.

yes it does recognize my sim card
thank you very much for your help:good:
I'll try to contact htc to solve this contradiction
I'm facing same problem....
Dear Leo-pard,
could you please help me out....is your problem solved after chatting with HTC Customer care..
I'm facing same problem as my HTC M9 is also not showing Mobile Network Sharing Option....
Please help me out also....
I'll be waiting for your reply...
A lot of carriers charge extra for hotspotting. More than likely mobile network sharing will be off because the carrier wants you to pay for it. What I don't know is if it is coded into the firmware or not.
Hey @Flippy498
I have a sitting HTC m9 and like you said have missing mobile network sharing settings. My phone is s off with locked bootloader.
What can I do to use USB tethering it mobile hotspot? Can I use a third party app to use them?
Thanks
