Is anyone else experiencing this? Surprised how hot my phone got from mild usage earlier today. A search on google seems to imply that it's quite widespread
Only really had issues when using sat nav, used it for an hour , while on with phone plugged in charger, the back was very hot to say the least.
The weather is unusually hot today. Maybe that's a factor?
heat is an issue i didn't know about before i bought it and it was really sad when i found out.
i suggest you to get a case so that you dont feel it so much
Never personally had any heat issues on mine. Are you using the stock ROM?
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
I am using the stock rom.
Mine gets very hot when charging and using Maps Navigation. Sometimes it even restarts itself even if I'm on a stock ROM when using navigation.
Same problem here! I was only using the SatNav around 15 minutes yesterday and the phone was pretty warm. Not sure if the warm weather played a part. I wasn't charging the phone at the same time.

look here. i've managed to solve overheating issue!

The overheating isn't even happening when i use any heavy apps. just having it on causes it to emit an uncomfortable temperature. the heat itself is coming out from the bottom part of the phone, just below the battery. is that where the cpu is?

SAme as me, but the phone doesn't get any hotter than my old Iphone 3Gs or my old HTC HD2, GPS always heats the phone up.
They have safety Protocols built in to shut down when they get too hot though, so I would be too worried about it.
Mine gets very hot. I am using stock Rom and no mods. Mine hits into a reset loop when it gets hot too and I have to remove the battery to let it cool down.

I've never had an issue with my Desire crazily overheating but every time I pick up my friend's it's boiling. I guess if you're concerned you could give HTC a ring.

it's barely a few weeks old. quite depressing sending it off for repair so soon.
I had a xperia x1 before, which had a metal battery cover, and still the back got extremely hot, I think record battery temp was about 55°C while using gps in car and charching. Under same conditions never had temp > 40°C with my desire (probably a newer one, allready had latest rom on stock).

yep. i came from an xperia too... and it also got very hot. was hoping to get away from that with the desire.
my old xda used to warm up that bad i had to put it into the aircon stream when driving so it would work again. so i cant complain about the temp of the desire.

What temps do you have when charching and using GPS?
How is the phone mounted, is there some space behinde the phone?
I just want to get sure about your situation...

The thing is - I'm still using my xperia. I've not put the sim card into the desire yet :S the overheating happens when i just doing very low level activity on it. Not even tried GPS yet.
Oh that's definitely not right! It actually sounds pretty dangerous to me. If it's going into HTC they'll get it sorted
The back of my phone is really heating up with only moderate use. Only a few minutes of youtube or angry birds will get the phone hot. The hot spot is only on the right side of the rear camera, or the backside of the front camera, however you wanna see it
Has anyone had the same problem?
My phone gets warm playing wind up knight. I haven't experienced hot yet.

when i've been using mine for a while and then make a call it is rather warm around the earpiece, dunno if thats normal or not.
Your thread title implies the phone is having a problem (ie. crashing, stuttering, FC) getting warm isn't really 'overheating' many mobile devices get pretty darn warm during intensive activities.
Are you experiencing a problem?
I just used my nexus as a wifi tether for my laptop for 3 hours, while charging off a usb cable and usually I get high temperatures usually when doing this with other phones, however nexus was cool to the touch after all this... haven't noticed much heat ever with this phone.... however I'm not a big gamer either.
Facing the front of the screen, the top right corner in an L shape seems to heat up quite a bit - from something medium intensive like web browsing.

No the title does not imply crashing of stuttering. If I did it would have the word 'crashing' or 'stuttering' in it.The title implies exactly what I'm getting. The phone overheat strongly in one spot , from very normal use. Not intensive tasks.
I haven't had FCs or anything like that so far. But it does get pretty hot. It is alarming if I may say.

I have a feeling there is something in that corner that is dissipating the heat. I have a battery temp monitor and when it was really hot in that corner, my battery temp was 40C (30C seems to be normal idle temp) - but the center of the phone where the actual battery is doesn't feel hot.
So I'm assuming the heat is drawn to that corner.
Another thing I noticed (comparing to my previous phone) is that even though it got hot, it cools fast as well.
I get the same issue as well. But it wasnt particularly alarming since my Captivate, Infuse, and Skyrocket did the exact same thing. I have used the captivate and infuse for a long time now. The captivate was purchasd on launch day last year and has been passed down to my girlfriend, infuse is still being used daily by me since launch day as well, and the skyrocket (least used phone) was JUST sold for the funds to get my new gnexus. All of these phones have the same issue. I just figured Samsung phones get warm but thats it.
My phone is fine. I don't even get warm unless playing a 3d game. Charging is unusually cool. And I haven't even felt warmth from heavy hspa use.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
to be honest...mine does seem to be getting rather excessively warm at the top right on both the front and back side...it's around where the RAM chip is on the PCB or could be around the CPU (which is more central but *shrug*). I cant think it's normal since i've never had a warm ear when i've been making a call with any phone i've had before!

My GN can be "very" warm at the back where the rear camera is. By playing 720p/1080p video files. Heavy HW decoding I believe.
So there is something. Can't believe no tech news site reported this before. Giving how quickly everyone rushed out to point a flaw the GN.
Has anyone contacted any Samsung rep on twitter or something? Who do we raise our concerns to?
I'm wondering if i should get my phone returned as DOA (since i need to do that by monday) with the getting quite hot and sleep of death and random reboots :|
i havent owned a high end phone like this though, and it's personally my first android phone (other people in the household have had one that i've mucked about with) so i dont actually know what to expect from it really...
I watched a netflix movie over mhl. The nexus got fairly warm. Still no overheating issues or reboots for me.

There is nothing wrong with it....... LOL "overheating" denotes your phone is crashing, stuttering, melting, burning or warning you that its hot....ect. So far nobody in this thread has this issue sooooo..... If the device is functioning properly then its not "overheating" as your thread title suggests. You should have put....does your phone get warm? Yes, just like computer processors they must get rid of the heat somehow this one dissipates it in the back just like most other phones.

except...the front is getting rather warm too. Doing simple things. Is that normal? Probably not. And excess heat + displays = bad. Also rather uncomfortable when you're making a call...if people use phones for calls anymore
So i'm having 2 issues
1) you can see in the 2 of the pictures there is an area of yellow discoloration. I had this problem back when I got an iphone 4 and returned it the next day. But because wirefly has such crap return policies I rather keep the phone if this really usually is a temporary thing while the "glue settles" as been reported in the past
2) I'm getting this heat error when I try to increase the brightness of my screen. Today is the first time I tried upping it beyond the normal 63% due to trying to check out this discoloration issue. Note I did have an otterbox on my phone at that time but I wasn't doing anything CPU / GPU intensive. It seems a little ridiculous that the heat would not let me raise the brightness just on normal use.
Wondering if anyone else is having the same type of issues

I got the heat issue one time... i've seen others say they got it as well. I don't normally have my brightness that high though and when I got the message it wasn't really very hot. It does heat up during games and stuff though.

I am having the same issue. I bought mine last night from Best Buy.
Thanks guys, i'll wait and hope a future firmware fixes the heat. It didn't feel that hot in hand. The yellowing looks better today.
I put mine on the charger 30 minutes ago and the discoloration was gone, but as I was using it you could see that it was returning..
Not having any of those issues. Just traded my GS3 last night for this and loving it. Was able to get the screen to the full 100%. I normally keep all my phones displays at 0%. I guess I have sensitive eyes. Unless in sunlight.
The screen not being able to go to 100% is not a defect. It has been discussed in a lot of reviews for the phone both att version and Sprint version. As far as the yellowing of the screen if it doesn't go away soon I would say it's a defect.
Sent from my LG-LS970 using xda app-developers app
Thanks for the info Wally! I haven't seen those reviews, can you point me to them. So you would say not being able to go to 100% after just normal use is something that should be normal for a phone?
Speaking of defects, has anyone else noticed the color-banding issues on the display? Is there a way to re-calibrate the gamma on the display (As I'm sure that's the reason for the banding effect)?
Yep, I have the yellow screen at the bottom as well. Bought at best buy last night. Probably going to exchange it, but waiting to see if it goes away after some use.
Update::
I guess this is good news. The yellowing on the bottom of my screen has faded to almost half the amount it used to be. Its still not totally gone yet, but it does show promise. Perhaps this is the same issue that many iPad users had with the adhesive curing with heat and use.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
I had this same issue yesterday i went back to sprint and traded it for another one completely gone now. So it's defiantly a defect, It was weird it took a while before it showed up. If you can get an exchange do that
Exchanged mine as well. The new screen is much better. Seems like its a bit hit or miss.

Hmm I'm going to go into a store and check out their display to see if they viewing angle on it are good because mine aren't that great.
Never had heat issue, and I always use 100% brightness. Never had screen discoloration either.
You got a dud.

I have read good reviews of the device but also some bad ones that day out gets too hot. Is this a major issue? I'm about to go on a Verizon family plan and want a good device.

I randomly get a heat problem. However, I got them with my Samsung phone as well. It seems like the problem was always some Google service running in the background. A reboot seems to fix it when this happens. Btw, these are few and far between for me.
i have not had any heat issues in the 1-2 months I've had the phone and I'm a very heavy user. It does occasionally get warm but never hot to the touch.
note - the device has a 6 CORE processor on it. It's going to have a little bit of heat when you work it
How about touch screen problems, do you have those or is that only some devices?
Sent from my C6833 using Tapatalk
I have no problems with the touch detection, but my phone gets really hot after a few reboots when I'm flashing and such.

Lg g4 is great i have no issues with heat unless out in a hot area playing a game on full brightness. Phone has a throttle to keep it from over heating, i get a few touc delays here and there. But it could be the screen protector. Although i enabled developer options and force 2d gpu and and disable animations. Its all smooth sailing there. Top. It off its a great phone to me i love it. I love it better with root. I hate verizon and others bloat ware
I just got the LG G4 and I'm real happy with it so far. Other than the bootloader that is...

I've only noticed this when outside on a sunny day where it's already hot, plus the screen at 100% brightness can make the phone pretty warm.

Anyone else think the finger print reader is painfully slow when the screen is off?
My honor 5x i literally tap the rear reader and the phone unlocks instantly. On the pixel i have to hold it there for about half a second.

It's definitely slower than the OnePlus 3 I had before, but not enough for me to get upset about.
Mine is lightening fast. Unlock my phone even faster than pattern .
Twice as fast as the 6P ever was.
Maybe a little slower than the Axon 7.
Faster than the S7 and iPhone 7.
It's not slow by any means... maybe not the quickest either, but definitely not slow to the point that it matters.

I agree. It's not slow by any means. The one plus three sure does have a faster finger print scanner, but the phone makes the OS feel like it just snorted a line of sugar. The Pixels scanner feels more fluid and has a smooth transition when unlocking the phone.
Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
Faster then my Honor 5X which was the fastest.
Try putting multiple sets of the same fingers you use. That made a noticeable difference and cut down on unable to read errors. I have maybe 6 different profiles for 2-3 fingers just in case. Just a thought.
Fastest I've experienced.
Mine is also the fastest on any phone I've had. Super quick. Maybe yours is defective.
Mine's pretty fast. Just put any of my registered fingers in any direction on the sensor and ON.
It can be slow after your phone has been left unused for a while - in other words, if your phone has gone into "doze", it may not register your print as fast as it normally does.
But if the phone has not gone into deep doze, print recognition is very fast
The fingerprint reader is instantaneous. It feels slow because you have the animations on. Go to developer settings and disable every animation
Take it back mate, the scanner is almost instant on mine and also works at any angle
Mine is literally instantaneous. Or atleast faster than anyone I have used before.
Im talking from screen off. When the screen is on it is fast i will agree.
But from screen of my honor 5x beats it every time.

I noticed this immediately after using it for the first time. The 6P scanner opened the phone quicker and also didn't fail ever. Every so often I have to tap the Pixel one again because it didn't read it. And also hangs a few micro seconds before the screen comes on. This only happens after its been sitting a while though. When out of doze it is flawless. I bet doze has something to do with it.
