So I have had this baby for a few days now and am having serious problems! Random reboots are common when I try to open an app or settings tab, SD card not being scanned at startup where I manually have to unmount it, pop it out then reinsert it to get my apps, music and pics to show up. It shows up in settings as being in there just can't read it or says blank SD card. It's a SanDisk 16gb class 10 bought from WalMart. So far I am pised off, but want to ask if this is a software problem, or hardware, and if anyone has experienced the same. It is stock non-rooted. Return time or root (do I have to root to update) then update to MK1 and see if the problems still exist and if so then return. Thanks for any advice.
Many people have SD card related freezes/bootloops/battery drain issues.
Try using the tab for a day without the SD card and see if thats the problem ~
re problems
you could try a different SD card
this happened with my phone sometimes
and it was just a dodgy card / mount interface
I recommend updating to mk1 asap. There were a number of stability fixes. Was the sd card fat32 formatted?

Do I have to start fresh if I update or does it dirty flash over? I formatted the sd card in the tab, so I don't know what format it is but my pc reads it so...

I'd recommend doing a fresh update after a factory reset. Then slowly add your apps in case one of those is having an issue.
Since you formatted in the tab it's fat32. So no issue there. Another possibility is one or more files on the sd is corrupt you may want to go through them on your pc.
My DA self didn't even check to see what I was already on and I'm on MK1 already. Dang, I guess updating is not the solution after all.
Have you tried deleting the contents of the sd card and then copying just a handful of known, good files to it?
Maybe the index service is getting hung on a corrupt file causing the system to freak out.
Transferred everything from external Sd to internal and no more reboots So I don't know. Weird

I too am getting random reboots of the device. No SD card installed - took mine out a few days ago in an attempt to cure the issue. I am guessing that Samsung has stuffed up on the QC of these devices. Too many reports of reboots. Surely it must be a hardware problem causing the malfunction>?
Rooted mine using Root De La Vega and using P605ZSUBMJ6 rom - still getting the reboot, probably one a day.
Has happened when I tap on the screen opening Chrome, when scrolling screens (I use Apex Launcher) and has happened when I have been using the pen when scribbling notes.
Getting frustrated.
The device when being used us smooth, and fast, but these occasional reboots are driving me crazy. I bought mine as a grey import, and I just know sending it back will be a royal pain in the backside. So anything to try to resolve this would be awesome.
I haven't had any reboots since I moved the programs back to device storage or any weird no read the SD card issues. My music and pics show up fine now and no more problems with apps saying not installed. I am also NOT rooted, yet.

From what I've read in the forums mk1 resolved a lot of random reboots. I've got the US 32gb wifi version with mk1 and I've never had a reboot. I've had it for about 2 weeks, I use it about 5 hours a day.

Yes, unfortunately that's the case. Hopefully Samsung will release it soon for the 605.
Try moving all the content off the SD card to your PC. Then, use the device itself to format the card. After it's (re)formatted move all your content back to it.
Hi guys, i'm running last CM12 nightly, but i'm not able to move apps to the sd card, i get an error saying there is no available space.

Hey - I'm facing same issue. Running up to latest cm-12-20150122-NIGHTLY.
I already tried to completely format SD in computer and also in phone itself. Still no change.
Anybody found some solution?
Same here, I tried running sd card fix but it said it's not necessary.
Hi all,
Something strange happened yesterday. Everything was working perfect when both the SIM cards started to deactivate and reactivate on my phone. I was on official LOS 15 and everything was so perfect.
These are the things i have tried so far -
- As its obvious i thought its a ROM issue so reflashed stock S251 from TWRP, but hard luck, the SIMS kept deactivating and reactivating here as well.
- I used fastboot adb method to reflash stock MM on my phone. Successfully flashed, network seemed OK for a while. But then it started the same thing again.
- I used fastboot adb method to reflash official S244, same thing ...
- I have tried to use 1 SIM at a time, swapped SIM slots.. same thing..
- Both SIMS have proper IMEI, Both SIMS can be used to make a call, Everything is good except that SIMS keeps activating and deactivating every 5 to 10 seconds.
If anyone has a suggestion in this regards, help would be highly appreciated.
Update *
I just reflashed MM stock using fastboot adb commands, Followed by installation of all updates via OTA till i was on S251.
Still the same issue remains. Both the SIM cards get deactivated for just a fraction of a second and then reactivate. This thing goes in loop and taking its toll on battery and my cellular connectivity.
Any suggestions or help guys ?

Instead of letting people know you managed to fix it you should rather explain how you managed to fix it. That would be more helpful to the community and anyone who faces this particular problem in the future.

First backup your data on the pc
Then maybe you should try formatting your SD card
I once had a persistent icon for SD card and did the same

Thank you Avnish for your reply.
I have formatted my sd card afew times in the phone it self and also on pc . the phone i still get the sd card icon at the left hand side and notifications just when i open from sleep phone or restart.
i can format the sc card to internal storage and then it goes away but when i take pictures etc or apps it all gets saved to my internal storage on the Phone not the sd card. Also ive been into Camera settings to save on sd card and it is not there sd card if i format to internal storage. But if i format it on phone to portable storage the phone see's it as a external storage and i can save pics and apps etc to sd card but i get the icon and notifications. I wonder if this is a bug on the firmware. Paul

If it's a software bug then it sure is a strange one. Have you tried a different sd card in the phone? And using this SD card in a different phone? Do you get the same results in both the cases?

update i have now sorted my sd card icon and notifications. What my problem was i had to format my sd card as internal storage and not portable storage i can now save and move apps and media to sd card .
My SD Card SanDisk Extreme Pro 64gb (brand new) is not corrupted or anything it works perfectly fine from other devices. When i format the sd card as a adoptable storage it soft reboot or somehow like the sd card ejects itself randomly when i lock the screen (I think ejects triggers the soft reboot because I migrated the internal data and transfer all apps to sd card and somehow it affects the system too) example while im listening to music and I lock the screen then pause it using my headphone or when im not using it the device will soft reboot. (I also think that because i used vpn to install android pie update and installed the one with bugs) Tried factory reset and flash it back to v10.0.2.0 (Downloaded from Xiaomi official website) using fastboot and update to latest update but it didnt work. Pls Help me fix this.

You said you've migrated all the apps to the SD card which is formated as adoptable.
Did you try to move the apps back to internal memory to check if that's the issue?

Sorry to hear that. I personaly don't use adoptable storage so can't help more. Only thing that comes to mind is to try and clear the app data from apps that were on adoptable storage if moving back to internal memory.
Since the January update while charging the battery I get warnings that my SD card (formatted as portable storage) is corrupted. If I just reboot after the warning everything is fine again.

Do you have access to the data on the card while it's charging?
If you change USB options to e.g. MTP storage instead of charging, does it change anything?

You could try to use a different charger (I know it's stupid but trying to eliminate all the small issues like that sometimes gives good results).
Waiting for another update might fix the issue if it's a ROM thing, naturaly if you want to wait.
Worst case scenario would be to try and rollback to a previous update (backup first).

I've had the same issue on both phones i bought. It randomly unmounts the adopted storage throughout the day. I've tried different cards but it's been an issue from the beginning and through every update. It seems like it doesn't have an issue as long as something is actively reading from the card, ie. music. However, I haven't tried clearing app data on the apps i moved to internal yet.
Wellp the february update did not fix this problem. Is there anyway to contact them to fix this problem for the next update?
I thought that this phone was great... I also thought that being Android One meant that many bugs won't be there and we would have a robust OS... It's all the opposite, Android Pie 10.0.4.0 here, and it's full of errors and bugs.
First battery life decreased from Oreo, then fingerprint doesn't feel as much responsive like before (but this could be just me), File transfer is HYPER SLOW, and finally... it randoms ejects my SD Card which is formated as internal storage and my phone keeps rebooting when it wants...
The problem with the SD Card is that randomly shows the "SD Card missing" message, and it's not only one SD Card, I tried another and the same message appears, both being SanDisk, one is A1 class and the other is just class 4, but both fail to remain stable on my phone, causing the close of all apps I have in the card.
My old LG F60 while it was crap with just 1GB of internal memory, all it's functions worked perfectly with Link2SD, what is happening here??
I had the same issue on Android Pie, what I did was I got rid of my sdcard because the phone had 64 gb of internal storage. But yeah, Xiaomi, their updates and software "improvements" suck. I'm thinking of downgrading to Oreo again. Sdcard issue is known since 10.0.1.0, still not fixed.
Man... that's so sad to read... I used Oreo but the situation with the SDCard is even worse, external storage apk stops all the time and gives problems, at least on Pie you can use it but it's way too unstable, sometimes it works fine for a whole day and other times it keeps rebooting the phone in a matter of hours because the SD Card it's "missing"... I really like the hardware the phone has, but I hate the software.
I will use internal then, thankfully 64GB is more than enough, but I hate that I can't use the A1 SDCard I have, I will keep reporting bugs and bugs on Mi Community and the Feedback app.
Thanks for replying, now I know I'm not the only one...

Yea don't try to downgrade, Android Pie has a built-in anti-rollback feature, it will cause more problems rather than solve it.

Im sure i read somewhere that you need a good superfast sdcard to match the internal storage, correct if me im wrong but it makes sense when your trying to format as one whole storage.

The error pops up even when you use the sdcard as an external storage, it is a Pie problem, which led me to ditch my 64 gb "superfast" sdcard.

Video recording issue was caused by the modem.img of Pie. I reverted to 9.6.11.0 by MiFlash and didn't flash Pie modem.img because I didn't use 2 SIMs anyway. video working fine now. Thanks though!
Hi,
Since the Pie update in January, frequently I get a status message of "verifying SD card content" which deranges at least the music apps which rely on mp3 tags. I've tried, repairing the sd card and everything else including reformatting the sd card. No success, I'm afraid. The message is displayed frequently. If I'm listening to music in the sd card it doesn't show the message but if , for instance, I pause it and leave it paused for some minutes, when I unlock the phone to restart playing the message is displayed and I have to wait until all content is rescanned by the music app. This is happening with several music apps, including VLC, Google Play, Pulsar, etc. Since January, I'm only able to use folder players which are faster at scanning sd content and don't rely so much in mp3 tags.
This didn't happen with Oreo and as I'm no expert, I didn't try the rollback to Oreo.
Does anyone know at least a workaround to this issue?
Thanks
If you'd read the other threads for this problem, you'd find a solution there.
Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite is an extremely cheap mid-range device, so they had to cut corners in some manners.
First of all, the first thing that should give you a hint is that A2 Lite does not have exFAT support by default.
The exFAT formatting option is found in cards larger than 32GB and >= Class 10.
Missing the exFAT format led me to diagnose that the phone lacks also the power management features tu support cards > Class 4.
When the CPU enters a deep sleep mode or random times at idle the SD Card loose the power needed to function and thus the message on the screen, because the SD Card gets a new Mount ID.
Tested a 64 GB UHS1 sd card formatted as FAT32... the message pops up as soon as the phone is woken up and exits deep sleep.
Tested a 64 GB Class10 sd card formatted as FAT32... the message pops up randomly sometimes after 6 hours, sometimes after days. Something happens with the voltages on the SD Card slot which forces a remount.
Tested a 32 GB Class 4 sd card formatted as FAT32... no problems, 0 messages, everything stays where it should be.
In conclusion, they didn't lie that the phone can support large, fast sd cards... It can, you can plug the latest, largest SD card in it and it would work just fine, but it's not stable, and it's not supported by the OS. I don't think Xiaomi will ever launch a Kernel update to support >= Class 10 in a stable manner since I think there are licenses and legal terms to be paid.
Unless some devs find a solution for rooted devices to overcome this power management problem, downgrade your SD card to a Class4, keep it just for media storage, and use the internal memory for high speed data r/w.

Thanks for the explanation of why it happens in Pie.
What remains as a mistery to me is why this didn't happen in Oreo. It never happened. Same sd card (OS and capacity), same phone hardware.
I should say that the OS update notification in January didn't state clearly an OS update to Android 9 (pie). Never crossed my mind that an OS upgrade would mess with something that was stable on the previous OS. Naive me :-S
If this a power management issue, is there a way to disable the power saving for the sd card handling?
Thanks again.
