[Q] (Help: Can't boot) Lollipop + eager urge for Xposed

I'm going to be away soon and won't have easy access to a non-professional PC (meaning any computer I may have access to - I won't have admin rights with). I didn't want to wait for a root+TWRP dev package for Lollipop to be released. I wanted to just get it done, (I was having bad problems with KitKat on some select apps because of LG's 4.4 coding, long story, but I won't even go there...)
I saw that I can go to the LG support site via a link from Android Central and manually upgrade to Lollipop way before the OTA rollout even begins. I had heard rumors of people having problems, read posts, and learned how to avoid it all. I reset everything before upgrading. I did many factory resets after getting Lollipop, (I know, a lot). I got rooted and set mostly everything up.
I wanted to get Xposed loaded, BADLY. I looked it up for Lollipop and realized that I'd have to flash a custom recovery. I expected as much. When I looked that up, I realized that I would have to either use a downgrade-upgrade method (which I didn't feel like going through) or a mandatory requirement of factory reset though a process. I had already set up all of the system stuff and restored from Titanium backup most of my apps. There was no way I would factory reset because I hate resetting-up the system stuff. - - - - - BIG MISTAKE 1
So I found a thread for the D850 (AT&T) version (no I didn't flash a bad radio or anything, I thought I knew what I was doing because I was only flashing recovery stuff for Lollipop, not an AT&T rom or radio.) This was to install TWRP without downgrading or resetting. The instructions said to copy files from an aboot.img and other boot images and such (to replace the recovery) on to the internal memory and use a terminal to type in code. I did it and rebooted it.
I made a horrible mistake.
When I held the power button on the phone, nothing happened. I found out that when plugging it in to the PC, it seems to be in download mode. It was fully charged. When using the restore/brick recovery software, I have tried different cables, different computers, checking to see if anything is corrupt, different USB ports, etc. with the files... Nothing will work. I keep getting an error with a red box about the model or something. "Model Information Check Fail"
So basically I have broken boot images on my device. I need to fix these.
Where do I go from here? All because I wanted Xposed on Lollipop without resetting.

I have this situation. I messed up with laf.img and aboot.img too (from D850, thinking it was harmless since trying to install custom recovery only) and device won't turn on but PC recognizes as download mode but can't flash. Please read above. I'm bricked and all restore methods have failed so far.

I'm having this issue now too. It seems the thing I downloaded and tried broke my boot images.
Have you been able to fix this?
I'm trying the LG Flash Tool but it stops me at the model check fail as well. Gonna try a kdz method next.
EDIT: I tried the KDZ method with LG Flash Tool 2014 using both a KitKat and Lollipop based ROMs and I get an error. The S/W Upgrade progress gets to 4% and then the error shows up. I need my phone. Help?!

[Q] Need help fixing gapps on VK815. (Verizon X8.3)

Hello, I made a noob mistake the other day and now my tablet won't stop popping up with gapps crashing messages.
Here's what I did:
I was in titanium Backup, I wanted to integrate updated apps into the ROM, when it got to some Google Apps it wouldn't continue on. So then I had the wonderful idea of rebooting the device to get it to stop trying to integrate the app (probably mistake #2...). Afterwards it started spitting out the loop of gapps crashing messages. I found a zip file of gapps for my version of Android online, put that on the SD card, and tried installing them in safe mode, but that hasn't helped at all.
Currently I have root, but no custom recovery and no stock ROM. I found this thread:

I am not really sure how to help you here. Have you tried to do a factory reset?
We have root access on the 815 tablet, so you can always manually copy APK files over. My best guess is to ADB push all of the files from a Lollipop GAPPS package.
Do you know which one is barking at you? We do not have a custom recovery yet to flash GAPPS, but I have never known one to be able to flash a GAPPS package over a stock rom.

I found a system dump of the X8.3, I'll try pushing the gapps files from that. I'm not sure which one it is, so I think I'll just push them all. It's been a long time since I had an Android, so it might take me a bit to figure out how to set up ADB and push files again.

I can't push files to it at all, it will only mount as read only in ADB, I also can't install with ADB, it gets some UID error. adb root just tells me it can't be done in production builds. Pretty much all I can do with adb is adb shell -> su.
Any idea on how to push the files? I tried googling around a bunch and can't find anything.
I tried a factory reset, it still gets the loop, so the only change is now I can't get past the setup UI. I might have to just wait for there to be a stock image to flash that I can access or a custom recovery or custom rom..

Try the official LG Flash Tool (not LG Flash Tool 2014) on Windows PC, which will download the right KDZ and flash it?
First make sure you have the latest LG Verizon drivers (v2.22 is the latest I've seen) installed, reboot, then put your tablet in Download mode, plug it into the PC and wait up to 10 minutes for it to load the drivers you installed.
Then try the official LG Flash Tool. I don't have links handy and I don't have the X8.3, but those instructions should be good for any new LG device.

P.S. I've found out the hard way that especially certain Google Apps can't be reintegrated on a Stock ROM. Google Play Services and the Play Store are definitely no no on every Android device I've tried. The rest may be okay, YMMV.

Just a little typo I had to correct in my post. I had typed "v2.2" of the drivers. Actually the latest I've seen is v2.22, and this could potentially be critical since v2.22 came out around the time that the X8.3 did. I always go straight to the manufacturer's website for drivers so I always get the right thing.

Thanks for all the suggestions, so far there's nothing working but at least I've tried. Currently the LG tool just tells me I already have the latest firmware and won't do anything from there. I'm pretty sure i'll just have to wait until someone releases either the stock firmware on a site that I can access (it's on a Chinese site, but I don't want to spam their forum (in a different language, no less), just to be able to download the file), or releases a custom recovery, or a custom ROM. Any of those should make it an easy fix, or also if LG ever releases an update for the device that should make it so I can fix it.
I'm not in a huge hurry anyway, I've never been a big Android user (I've owned about 12 Androids, so I don't mean for it to sound as though I don't like the OS, it's a fun OS to play with), I just wanted to be able to play all the games that I own on Android from the Humble Bundles and other purchases I've done over the years, but 90% (at least, and I'm not kidding) of them wouldn't run on the tablet with the stock ROM anyway. They just crashed when opening, no idea why, I think it's because of the switch to 64-bit but that's just a guess.

Sure, you're welcome! I was thinking that there was a menu near the upper right corner of the official LG flash tool that when you clicked on it, it had a "Update Recovery" option. I thought that option forced it to do a fresh flash of the stock ROM, once it downloaded it, but if it didn't then it's just because I only used that tool once or twice and it was last year.
Two sites I used to use, on which you could enter the IMEI of your LG device and it would give you a direct from LG download link for the latest KDZ, don't work any more.
This one still does, however. Maybe they're using their own servers or they have the up to date links from LG or something:

Then you could use (the unofficial) LG Flash Tool 2014 (not the one you tried before) to flash this KDZ to your VK815 with it in Download mode.

This is another interesting tool to download the latest KDZ. It works for my VK810, but similar to that link I put in my last post, I don't know if it uses it's own databases so I don't know if it'll have your VK815 KDZ:

Try using the method that was used to obtain root through a USB com port. That provides su access and should be able to push files just like the root files.

I thought about that, but I really don't know what all one-click root does to gain root access and be able to push files.

(Un)successful TWRP install with Imageprep?

In trying to update a rooted D858HK v20D to v20E, I searched around and found, okay, I need TWRP Recovery installed first.
So I used ImageprepGUI 2.6 and tried to grab the appropriate TWRP from its menu. Then tried to pull it from the Google Drive link in another thread.
Both tries resulted in "successfully" updating Recovery to TWRP, but with a warning that aboot.img wasn't in /data/local/tmp and that the phone would brick, and yet it claimed to be rebooting into recovery... which didn't happen.
So I tried to get into recovery using Titanium Backup's shortcut, but that only results in the dead Android with Red Triangle logo.
What now? I don't want to do the vol-down/power, release, re-press, wipe, wipe method in case, you know, it actually does reset the phone.
I actually manually put aboot.img into /data/local/tmp with 777, but no dice.
There is one other thread that talks about the red triangle and how it's because the recovery isn't the updated version or something, which I don't quite get, though it stands to reason that whatever Imageprep is providing for TWRP should be reasonably compatible with v20D? or is that even an issue?
(a little background on the phone. Purchased with Kitkat, OTA without root to Lollipop. Rooted with oneclick written by avicohh. Never put another recovery on here before.)

Successfully updated to V20E manually with LG Flash Tool 2014 But still need to figure out why TWRP won't work right

OMG that was easy. Evidently, I hadn't searched enough. And the title of the app, ARec sounds more like Auto-Record or something, which seemed suspicious, but yeah, that did the deed SO AMAZINGLY EASILY.

Mostly black screen after rooting and trying to replace Kinguser

I rooted my att LG g pad x 10 with kingroot and everything was working well until I ran the su-me software to remove the extra apps kingroot added to my device. I looks like the sume app got about 75% of the way through before finally freezing. After rebooting I can now only see the clock and the virtual buttons at the bottom of the screen. I tried to use the lg tool to download the firmware and reflash the device but it says Im up to date and wont reflash it, How do I wipe this back to stock and start over Im sure this is because supersu and king root had conflicts. Is there a way to get the att firmware and force it to reimage the device?

You could follow this thread to restore your tablet.
That's a pretty complicated fix. I'd try a factory reset in the stock recovery just in case to start with.

I need the firmware to restore the backup. I have no problem performing the restore but I cant find the firmware they do everything OTA, If you can show me where the firmware is Id owe you. Im going to try to return the tablet but its got king root on it figures the one screen you can get to is settings and installed apps and since kingroot is a system app I cant remove before returning.

This thread links to a kitkat kdz. It resizes some partitions though. To get your full storage back you have to follow the procedure in that first link.
It's the only full firmware package I know of for the v410. Since you're on the lollipop bootloader it's the only fix I know.

i used that KDZ to fix my LG G Pad 10.1 -- and that s why I am now looking for an actual KDZ or the 10.1 -- that file left my 10.1 DEAD. DEAD. QSHUSB_BULK is what it shows now in the device manager and there is supposedly a fix -- but this forum is waaaaaay bad for these. Most software and help is NOT for the 10.1 -- be careful.

VK810 Root and ROM Successful

I felt compelled to register here and post my success on getting LineageOS installed on my Verizon VK810 4G Altev LG G Pad tablet. It would not have been possible without this forum and the users who contribute, both with information and with uploads. I initially tried rooting with KingRoot and the OTA updated OS I had from Verizon but the app said there were 63 requests for rooting my device. Forget that idea. After also trying iRoot which wasn't working, I used the LG Flash Tool to downgrade to VK81035A and then was successfully able to root that. SuperSu definitely helped with the process. My guess is, even though both were Android 5.0.2, mine had OTA patches that I guess caused issues for rooting. Installing TWRP was a hassle though. None of the v500 TWRP images worked for me and many of the custom TWRP versions that I found on here did not work for me. You would not imagine the number of times I thought I bricked my device because I kept getting "Secure Booting Error! Cause: boot certification verify" errors. However, what did work for me was, using Platform-tools and VK810_twrp_2.7.0.1.zip for TWRP. For some reason, the other versions posted here did not work for me. It did take me a while to figure out how to get into TWRP because I kept using the Power-VolUp key combinations and it kept bringing me to what looked like LG's recovery menu. I didn't realize that the screen is actually fake and you have to click "Factory Reset/Wipe" on there to get into TWRP. It actually took me a long time to figure that out. With TWRP installed, I searched for ROMs that I could use that were newer than Android 5.0.2 and ended up downloading LineageOS as it came up for the VK810 and since VS500 ROMs weren't allowed to be installed. Now to be fair, the LineageOS Rom that I used (lineage-14.1-20171228_233442-UNOFFICIAL-vk810.zip) is pretty glitchy. The display likes to blink a lot, many apps crash on it and there is no cellular data working for me, but I assume that will possibly be fixed in the future and at least now, I can customize more than I could on stock. On first install, I also lost my root and forgot to install the GApps package from the Lineage website. Anyway, hope this helps at least one person here. Nothing was one-click for me, but I did learn a lot about the process of rooting and flashing, and now better than to automatically allow OTA updates. Wow thank you so much I thought it was me having issues. I have a 410vk and as you said nothing was one click. I hope to continue to try and get root on the G Pad. Still an awesome device.

Can you link where you got the ROM? Is anyone actively working on it? Really too bad the vk810 never got much love, great little device. Been awhile since I've done anything with it, it's my dad's so I got it rooted on 5.0.2 and just kinda left it alone. What prompted me to come back to this forum is screen mirroring won't work. The tablet sees TV and vice versa, it tries to connect but never completes the connection, just kicks back to satellite TV after a couple of seconds of black screen. Don't suppose you tried casting on that lineage build?

I got the ROM from the Invisiblek ROMS site under /roms/lineage-14.1/vk810/ (Can't post the link as I'm currently under 10 posts)
It's definitely a start. There is screen glitching, and no LTE service (Wi-Fi only), so it definitely limits the tablet. I have not done much with it as it was a hassle just to get the root within the OS to work correctly. Some apps aren't detecting root when the OS is trying to give it to them.

I'd like to write about my experience too as it took me some time to finally get the device up and running.
I will describe what I wanted to do, what mistakes I've made and what should've been the correct way.
The device itself is LG G Pad 8.3, Verizon LTE variant aka vk810
Initally I received it in a bricked state, on launching it showed the "Secure booting error" message and that's it.
1) Unbricking
The goal was to install an official LG system image and restore the tablet to a working state.

Installed LG drivers
Downloaded the LG Flash Tool 2104
Downloaded a KDZ image
Plugged the device in the download mode into the PC and installed the KDZ using the flash tool
At that point I got a fancy idea to install a non-stock Android on this tablet.
2) Lineage OS
I chose this OS for my tablet, because it seems to be the current standard for non-stock Android installations.
I followed these installation instructions: https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/v500/install
BEWARE: that page is for v500, so it won't work for vk810.
Lineage doesn't support vk810 officially. A mistake I've made was assuming that I can just roll along with a v500 installation. Actually, you kinda can, but for me it resulted in Wi-Fi not working and my device's MAC address being 02:00:00:00:00:00.
3) Rooting
I was quite confused here too: there are different rooting methods, and some of them can be applied in different ways.
Ultimately I found Stump to be the most comfortable for me: https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg...root-stump-root-lg-g3-sprint-verizon-t2850906
It works fine on this device and uses a very straightforward process: download APK to your PC, connect the tablet to the PC, "adb install <filename>.apk", then launch the app and that's it. It had to go through the bruteforce process to root, which took several minutes.
4) TWRP
I don't remember what exact TWRP I installed initially, but it was a 3.x version, and I encountered an issue where it couldn't mount any of the tablet's partitions. That was quite a pain in the ass.
For a while I resorted to using an older version, 2.7.x, and it worked fine.

The lesson learned here is that, again, you need to make sure stuff you install is compatible with your device.
Ultimately, after making mistakes at each step of the process, I figured out everything, and just followed the installation instructions on the Lineage page I linked earlier.
* Flash stock rom
* Root using Stump
* Enable USB debugging on the tablet, install Stump via adb and root the device
* Install vk810 variant of TWRP 3.2.1-0 via adb
* Reboot to recovery (turn off the tablet -> hold Volume Down + Power -> you should get a factory reset menu after the LG logo -> select factory reset, then confirm it and you'll be booted into TWRP. That factory reset is fake after you have TWRP installed)
* Wipe everything
* adb push the lineage / lineage's su / opengapps onto the device
* Install lineage, then su and opengapps and you're good to go
Main lesson learned: it is CRUCIAL to make sure stuff you install is compatible with your particular device. Do not assume that you can use another version, even if it is made for a device of the same family.

Thanks for all the great information, but I have the VK810 that has usb connection problems. It will connect, but it keeps dropping (it cannot be trusted with usb cord). I have wanted to root, twrp, magisk and other things just to play around to see what it can do or how far I can go with it. I am not afraid to trash it. Have you or anyone else had this problem? I have reset it, wiped it out, factory settings, but nothing seems to help that usb port. I was thinking that reflashing the rom might help. Any advice is appreciated.
