Anyone get it working on Sprint yet? - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am under contract for another year with Sprint from when I purchased the Nexus 6 through them. I sold that phone after about 2 months due to the size but I kept the UICC(sim) card hoping it will work with the whatever phone came out in the future. Anyone successfully activated on Sprint yet? I don't have the phone yet but just wondering how much of a hassle I might have to go through. Sprint has a document on activating a 5X but it does nothing but show you how to basically turn the phone on and go through the wifi and google setup, lol.

I am on Sprint. It activated, no problems. The activation through their website sent me to a chat session to get it done, but it was quick. It is working well so far. for 2 days.

Transferring numbers, and getting charged full price

So... my wife has been hating her Samsung Moment.
I have an EVO that I got on day one, but for some reason my account was tagged as eligible for an upgrade. This weekend, after chatting with sprint online who said I could get a new phone for my line, activate it, then switch it to her and switch back to my EVO.
So I bought her an Epic through Radioshack who was selling them cheap. It came in today, and says that they MAY charge me $300 if I switch the phone to another line after activating it, due to sprint reporting it as being deactivated.
Has anyone had any experience with this and Sprint before? I'd really rather not pay another $300, when I thought this wasn't going to be an issue.

Does that mean you have done what im trying to do and not had an issue?
Ie, buy a phone using one lines upgrade, activate, then transfer numbers back around?
To get the upgrade price, and/or the rebates, you need to keep it on the line for 30 days I believe. It may be 60 days, I'm not positive. But they do this for exactly this situation, so people cant use their update and immediately give it to another line.
Return the phone to RS so they can reverse your upgrade if you're worried about the fee. Call Sprint and see if they can give you a good price on the phone. You always have to read the fine print on those 3rd party vendors.
Never had issues like that. I have used my girls upgrade and activated the phone directly on to whatever line I wanted without ever having it on the eligable upgrade line. Done this several times, never a problem. Also, sometimes Sprint will do your mail in rebate for you instantly if you call in, as long as ur a premier member. Its nice not waiting for that check.
Hey... I think this thing makes phone calls too!

Through which vendor though, sprint directly? Or a reseller like Best Buy/Radioshack?

The first time, I ordered the phone from Sprint online with an upgrade from my fathers line, which I provide to him, and activated it on my line. That's the only way I was able to afford getting the Evo on launch.
Second time, I ordered an Evo from Wirefly using my upgrade and activated it on my girls line.
Third time, I ordered from Sprint online again for my friend who's on my family plan, and activated on his girls line. I have a maxed out family plan to save cash, communism rocks and so does unlimited mobile to mobile!
On all three of these, Sprint gave me zero trouble. On the two ordered directly from Sprint, they did my rebate instantly and applied the credit to my account. Also, on all three occasions I called Sprint directly to activate. I know you can do it online, but I find that you can get more out of it if you call in or go to the store. Case in point, instant rebate goodness.
Well, I did this same thing when I got the evo on launch day......used my wifes upgrade, from radioshack and within ten minutes of that purchase I switched the phone to my line and put wife blackberry back on her line, all while inside radioshack.....
hope this help.

I just did this, back when the evo came out, I used my wife's upgrade and transferred it to my line (done at the sprint store). In December, my line was eligible for an upgrade, so I used that upgrade to get my wife an evo (done at radio shack). They did all the switching right at the store. No problems and no extra charges.

I did the exact same thing as above but did it all at Wal-Mart as it was the only place around that had the phone in stock. I used my wifes upgrade to get the evo, and they switched the numbers around within 5 minutes.
Thanks for all the responses. I ended up getting scared of Radioshack online (Wirefly) and did it in store at a best buy, who did it all no problem.

[Q] (those who purchased from bestbuy last year) Support?

I am just wondering what type of support do you get if you purchase this phone from best buy. I am a T-Mobile subscriber and I do plan to use this on T-Mobile. I know from personal experience that sometimes the nexus phones don't get the best support from the carriers in the case of signal/connection issues. Because if I am getting dropped calls i don't want them to blame the phone and compatibility issues rather then attempting to help me.

Reason they dont get the support is because carriers didnt officially "carry" the device,....but I had a Nexus s last year and T-mobile went out of its way to fix MMS issues we had with the device, even though it wasnt officially supported.....
but with the GN its actually going to be sold buy other carriers....maybe

I got the NS on T-mobile at release and suffered from data connectivity issues within the first week. I called customer support a few times to get it cleared up and they were very helpful. It didn't matter that I was using an NS, in fact at least one Customer Service Rep seemed very interested when I told them what phone I was using. I'm not sure they would be as helpful if the problem turned out to be a hardware issue though. Mine turned out to be an issue in my account that was finally resolved after I had called 3 or 4 times.
They were somewhat helpful to me. My first NS had a freezing issue and they got me over to Samsung tech support when I called to see if it was a known issue. Samsung helped a bunch and recommended I do an exchange at the store since I just got it 2 days before. Now trying to exchange it was rather unpleasant. Best Buy tried to tell me to wait for the update despite me telling them Samsung said to return it and the coming update wouldn't fix it. I lucked out and the phone froze while the rep was playing with it and they finally gave me a new one. I'd say if the same happens to you, just tell them you want to return it because you don't like it and then go to another store and re-buy it.

i bought it day one and like everyone else had some issues. Like every other product purchased with cash it falls under the 30 days warranty. I had no problems returning it for another unit.
I did contact tmo and they were helpful although i never expected them too since it was a phone that they do not carry.

How to exchange if not purchased from Verizon

So I bought my Galaxy Nexus LTE off Craigslist. Love this bad boy, however I am one of the lucky ones that loses Data/Voice at least 4 times per day. Have tried different radios, went back to stock, factory reset, and only 2 apps I have installed are tapatalk and no signal alert.
Talked to Samsung and I can send it in for them to correct the problem but I would be without a phone for 2 weeks. Is there anyway to get Verizon to exchange it?
Thanks.

Depends on the store/rep you get. It is still technically under the 1 year warranty, but if they want, they can say it's not the original account. I had a blackberry i ebayed a few years back, got it, exchanged it in store no problem. Took my incredible off my family plan (which my name was also on) and wanted a replacement due to the speaker issue and store rep and manager got into it with me for 30 minutes due to it being a "different account" the phone was originally on, even though the phone was ALWAYS on the same phone number. So i guess what i'm saying is try it, if it doesn't work, go to another VZ, or go back a few days later for a new rep. 1 year warranty is a 1 year warranty.
It depends on the rep you talk to. I bought mine from a retailer online, and the VZW rep had to get some supervisor approvals before he could exchange it.
The rep said that what they do is basically send everything goes to Samsung, but they are basically front you a device so you don't have to wait the too weeks. The warranty is not a VZW warranty it is a Samsung warranty so regardless of who you got it from it should be still under warranty. The issues is whether VZW will front you a device while your old one goes back to Samsung.
1. Call them up tell them your issue with the antenna,
2. Tell them you already did a factory reset and it still doesn't work.
3. If they ask you where did you purchase the phone, just say an authorized retailer. VZW will not heads or tails if that is the case because they do not track authorized retailer shipments.
4. Make sure you bring it back to stock if you had it rooted. I use WugFresh Tools to unroot and relock.
bro ive been there
And no Verizon won't replace it, let's face it big reds a **** head ( that why we have data caps now) all about them dollar signs. Trust me I was in the same spot as you when I purchaced my gnex at Verizon "premium retailer" (phone store thats not oficailly Verizon). Samsung is your only hope. Oh yeah check your setting and make sure your data limiter is switched off or your not past your limit
Like I said it depends on the Rep you talk to. This happened to my wife's phone back in March, and we bought the phone from Xpress-Phones.com. The guy new the phones just got released in December so there was no way possible the warranty had expired. He had to get a supervisor approval for the exchange, but there was no issues.
And if all else fails just unroot it, bring it back to stock, relock it and bring it to the VZW store.
If you've been with Verizon for a while try calling the Loyalty Hotline. I've always gotten whatever I ask for (within reason of course): 877-628-8922 Also, if they say no the first time just call back later, it can't hurt to ask.

[Q] Issues with Galaxy Nexus, should I call Verizon about a new one?

I have a brand new Galaxy Nexus that I bought outright from a friend.
Last Friday I took it into a Verizon store to get a new sim card.
When I got home I unlocked the bootloader, rooted, and that's it, I kept the stock Verizon rom on it and just installed a few of my apps off the market.
Since Friday my phone has rebooted a number of times, while in use it gets VERY hot (135*F), 4 or 5 times now I have gotten a window that comes up and says "Select next to finish activation" as if the phone thinks it's not activated yet, and the worst of them is the 4G drops on this phone far too often. I have been taking the same route home for over a year and on my Tbolt i had a solid 4G signal the whole way, on the Galaxy it drops to 3G about 4 or 5 times on the way home, and sometimes loses data alltogether.
Not sure if these are all just flukes, or if other people have experienced this as well.
Thoughts?
Yes,unroot relock and take it in the same thing happened to mine and I got a brand new one..mine dropped 4g constantly you may wanna call and have them trouble shoot it so when they see it doesn't help they will write up a ticket note it on ur account so when u go into a store no waiting or stupid questions
Oh and I would only mention that its dropping signal all the time nothing more nothing less
Yeah and just to be clear, i relocked and unrooted and used it all day today and still having the same issues.
When I went into the store today they flat out would not help me whatsoever because i didn't buy the phone from them.
They said it doesn't matter if I was the first person to touch the phone after it came out of the box, if i didn't buy it from them (Verizon) then they won't warranty it.
Called support and got told the same thing, the phone is no longer under warranty because it changed ownership, even though I just activated it 6 days ago.
Well isn't that just ****ing great.

OK ... don't go to the verizon store they won't do it for you ... what you need to do is call tech support and tell them your issues .... listen the galaxy nexus is less than a year old verizon have to give support to the customer.. . I'm telling you because I've done it ... I been with verizon for years and I've owned several phones and every time I get a phone a new phone without signing a new contract first thing I do is call tech support and ask for a replacement .... if the phone is less than a year old they will do it ....... good luck

I already called support, they wont replace it, because I didn't purchase it directly from my account.
I'm taking the long route here and shipping it back to my friend, who is going to put it back on his account, then get a refurb, then send me the refurb when he gets it.

Refund Note 7 but keep upgrade

Has anyone talked to Verizon about returning the Note 7 but keeping the upgrade until a new phone comes out? Everything out now just doesn't suite my needs, and I don't want to buy an 8 month old S7 Edge that isn't going to replace my Note 5 or 7.
I chatted with Verizon, and was told that if I simply returned the device, whatever I activated on the line (even my old Note 5) would effectively x-out my upgrade even if it wasn't a brand new phone or an upgrade.
Now, one interesting thing is the upgrade is on my wife's line, but the phone is on my line... So question 2, would that work the same?
That's ridiculous. How would activating an old phone be using up the upgrade. I'm going to call myself in a few and see what they say because in my case. I no longer have my old phone so I'm buying one from someone this weekend to be able to activate it in place of this note 7. Dammit what a mess this entire thing has been.

I agree, it's BS when everything else fails to compare. If that is the case, I'll buy an iPhone 7 plus and ebay it.
Ok I just got off the phone with Verizon cs. The rep I spoke to was real nice and she knew her info.
I asked her if I activate my old. Phone will I still have my upgrade and she said YES.
She says I can upgrade at anytime.
I then asked since Verizon canceled the contracts what to keep me from staying with my phone and not returning it. She said EVENTUALLY THE COMPANY WILL HAVE AN AUDIT AND THEY WILL THEN SEE THAT THOSE PEOPLE WHO STILL HAVE THE NOTE 7 HAVEN'T RETURNED THEM AND WILL EVENTUALLY BE BILLED FOR THE PHONE VIA WHICHEVER WAY YOU HAD YOUR PHONE PAYMENT SETUPLIKE. For instance i was going to pay monthly on mine for 2 years and if I keep the phone eventually when the phone is caught in the audit they would Then proceed to charge me monthly again for the phone.
Oh and something interesting she mentioned is when I originally swapped my old. Note 7 for this newer supposed safer note 7 that they didn't have me sign a new agreement. So basically there's nothing tieing me with this phone to them. But once again all it would take is a audit. Which they will eventually have done and they would flag it. I'd have to sign or return phone and be charged etc. Hopefully this answers some of your guys questions. I know it answered all my questions by calling.
I'm going back to my old phone. Getting all my refunds and upgrade next year when a hopefully. Newer better note 8 will be out.

Yep, I went to a high volume brick and mortar here in Jacksonville and confirmed the same. I'm going back to my old Note 5 and will return this to a store for a refund. No stylus or 5.7" screen is a deal breaker for me at this point. I really want a microsd slot, but I'll just have to deal for now.
