Hi,
This is my first post here so I hope it's in the correct place.
I've got a Universal with a damaged screen (I trod on it ). Does any one know if it's possible to get a replacement (in the UK if possible)? If so, could you please tell me where from. Also, has anyone out there actually changed a screen on a Universal.? It looks a bit difficult to get the screen apart: I'm not sure where to start. Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Tony

Actually their shop is in Shenzhen (China) but they are reliable, I bought a second hand xda exces working good and if you need I can check it, because I live/work here.

Hi, I had the same problem a few weeks ago. I dropped my Qtek 9000 on the floor and the screen broke. I bought a new LCD screen on ebay and replaced the screen my self. It was not very difficult and you only have to unscrew a total of 8 screws to do the job. I used the service manual to get some guidance in how to remove the screen.
Try these guys
I've not used them but remembered seeing them being talked about elsewhere in the forum.

I have the o2 xda orbit and I never tried to modify it (change firmware, rom etc) or upgrade to WM6. Everything is original the way that it came. I have been using the orbit for about 6 months now and I had bought it off ebay.
Just yesterday I was chargin the orbit through the usb cable and I removed it since i had to go out and i just put it in my jeans pocket and after 5 min when i took it out there was a blank white screen. I took the battery out overnight and turned it on in the morning but still the same thing happens. The images below show exactly what shows up on my screen
I dont know what to do The minute i turn it on that is the only screen i see. No windows logo nothing. I removed the sim card and memory card. But still no luck. Can i change it through warranty eventhough I live in Canada? ANy help is appreciated!! I would be glad to give more information to you if I can.
If you know of any other forums where i can get better help, please let me know.
Switch it on but hold in the voice record button when you do it, do you get a Red/Green/Blue screen?
Maybe, it saw a ghost?

nope same blank white screen with a line in the middle.
Looks like a serious hardware death there. Did you buy it off an ebay shop or private? If from a shop you may be able to make a warranty claim, if not you'd have to post it to a repair centre and cross your fingers.
I am presuming here that you have tried a Hard Reset too, ie holding down both softkeys whilst resetting, then releasing the softkeys when you get a confirmation message.
if i press the reset button nothing happens. Orbit only responds to the power button. I bought it off ebay and hence the problem. Do you think it is only a screen malfunction and if i buy a replacement screen I should be able to solve the problem? is it easy to replace the screen by myself?
I DONT KNOW IF IT'S WORK for you BUT... I work in a big shop where a lot of clients buy differents models from Htc and, 2 months ago, somebody have the same problem (with 2 lines) WITH a Tytn. We have flashing his tytn with the original rom and the problem has gone !
Have you try to make a connection with you pc ??? If activsync work...(maybe the bootloader work and ... of course, you can't see if the htc is running because you screen d'ont work for the moment)... you have nothing to loose if you try... If activsync dont work, try to put a original signed rom from htc to the root directory of your microsdcard and follow this tread from the xda-wiki section : http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Artemis_SD_Card_Flashing
REALLY, I'M NOT A PROFESSIONAL BUT I REALLY THINK THIS IS MADE BY SOMETHING WRONG (FOR ANY RAISON) IN YOUR ROOT DIRECTORY AND THE SCREEN CAN'T WORK NORMALLY... oF IT'S MEABY DUE TO A BAD CONTACT BEETWEEN YOU SCREEN AND THE "MOTHERBOARD" FROM THE PDA.
I HOPE THIS CAN HELP YOU.

Could you give me step by step instructions on flashing the xda orbit rom. Out of frusturation i tried updating the orbit to WM6 and it successfuly updated according to message on my computer screen. So i have wm6 on my phone now but still the same problem.
I exctacted the file and put it in the root of my sd card and pressed the voice button and power button. Now how do i know that the ROM is being flashed? (since i just see the white screen). Even for the orbit should i just name the file on the microsd card as ARTEIMG.nbh ?
Thanks for all your help..but since i am new to this could you please explain teh process in more simpler terms?
Thanks again

Sorry to tell you dear friend but your LCD is cracked, you can see it very clearly on the first picture, bottom right hand corner.
simple way to test if true is to connect to the pc and see if its recognised.
sorry to give you some bad news.

i dont mind the bad news. So if i just buy a replacement lcd from ebay would that work? How hard is it to replace LCD? Is it something that i can do by myself? What should i be buying THIS OR THIS. You guys know of any other cheap places where i can buy lcd screen? My computer does recognise the orbit once i connect it to the computer and activesync successfuly completes the operation. So i am guessin there is something wrong with the lcd screen.
If You Put Out Your Battery More Than 30 Second, It Make The Same ?? And In The Same Place???
NOW YOU HAVE NOTHING TO LOOSE... if is it the screen, you must change it...
But before, try to flash one more time your artemis with the original wm5 and, for sure, begin to make it supercid before (so you are sure you dont make a second problem !).
The client with a same problem (but not with the little trace at the right side from your screen) is happy now ! Play also a littlebit to make hardreset, softreset, usb bootloadermode ... And maybe you will see the color coming back!
I said one more time, i am not a professional for this problem but, "still trying" is never bad.... And for the screen... if you command him, you must waiting... so... try it first and if you have no more solution to try, send the pdaphone to htc... And if it's the screen, pay the replacement to htc and dont make it you self ( ebay?? are you sure 100 % the screen you buy its working???!!!??? ).
Yeah, if your computer recognises it, it'll just need a new screen.

Ok, first bit, there is a section on this forum on linking where to buy a lcd with touch screen, and there is also a guy who has done this, you can read up on it, but it will take you some time and hours removing the covers ( trying not to damage them ) and also hours of painfull cleaning, dust is the worst thing you could ever imagine,as soon as that nice lcd comes out of the package you will have dust all over it and once you have the phone back together the smallest amount of dust trapped inside will drive you crazy.
The best action for you to do would be to send it off for repair, in the end you will have your phone fully working.
the price of the replacement LCD is around 80 Euro's + sending cost.
the price you have to look into for a repair could be double.
but look into this carefully and ask yourself these questions.
1. Have you ever done this before.
2. Do you have the right tools.
3. Do you have a lot of paitience.
4. Is it worth doing it yourself and causing more damage to the phone ?
if you cannot say yes to all of these points that the solution is to send it off to repair.
hope this helps.
Regards.

i've just sent you a pm! please check
Does anyone know, where can it be send for repair to?
I have a bricked phone (even bootloader is not started).
And it was bought at eBay, so no any warranty or so.
This is XDA Orbit and I'm in Austria, where O2 has no representation.
Could you, please, advice the companies/possibilities to reapir it (chip change or direct reflashing - not via USB).
Alex

Thanks for letting me know..i though it was a pretty simple thing to do by myself. But now I definitely dont want to take that chance. I will shop around for some local cell repair shop. But since this phone is not available in canada I dont know where to go. Does anyone know of a repair shop in Toronto?
I would think the quickest turnaround would be throught HTCamerica. Its located in Houston Tx...
http://www.america.htc.com/support/service-repairs.html
thats just my two cents, turnaround time is like 5 to 7 days after receipt... if they service your phone, they do p3300, you would have to call to find out

This happened to mine too,and screen was not broken.Working internally but white 'screen of death' showing.Sent back to 02 but no mention of fault on return.I think rom suffers corruption since it was after x close, fix.Not sure though!
im trying to repair a friend's incredible of mine and he said that ever since he replaced his cracked screen the power button hasn't been able to turn on the phone. So what i did is try to open the phone up myself and see if he is missing any parts from the mobo. If you guys have any pictures of the mobo of this phone it would help me identify what could be wrong.

You're best bet it to try to find copies of the FCC approval teardown. Often, but not always, they're floating around out there.

alright thanks and i actually did figure out the problem. There's a small part missing from the power button that keeps the phone from turning on. I was able to use a small object to poke it and it works. but i will need those fcc approval teardown pics. so thanks for the suggestion

awesome you've been great help thanks again!
if you need any help with the repair process, feel free to pm me.
So i was trying to install a rom onto my phone while i had no visual feedback because for some reason CWM had stopped giving me anything when it was working, just a black screen, so i tried to install another rom and after about 20 minutes nothing happened, so i did a battery pull and now when i try and turn the phone on i'm getting that initial buzz from the vibration, but nothing else happens.
Thanks all.
Hmmm... my computer's picking it up too, and the LED comes on when charging, i just don't know how to proceed, i suspect what i've done is battery pull while it was installing the new rom and made it so i didnt have any rom on there, but the question is, how do i rectify that?
Try holding volume down and power to see if you can get into bootloader/recovery?
Nope, nothing
the main thing is don't freak out, cause even in the worse case, all you have to do is send your phone and US$40 to that famous dude here in the forum who un-bricks anything.
Hm... dunno if im comfortable sending it away, maybe if i can't do anything. Is there no way i could maybe install a rom from ADB or something?
if anything you can get a PC10IMG to the root of your sd card then vol - and power wait like 30 seconds and press vol + wait 3 minutes and press the power button
see if it works
altho its weird that you cant see anything might be a damaged lcd or something
Pretty sure it isn't anything to do with the LCD, it ws fine just moments before this all happened, thanks though, i'll give it a try now.
Sorry, quick question, how do i know if its a stock pc10img? I have S-OFF so i don't wanna be flashing stock ones do i?
search for one in the dev section that stock but rooted im pretty sure ive seen a couple around i just cant remember where
Would any of these Be sufficient?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=970809&highlight=pc10img
never mind... the phone won't boot up with the volume down and power thing, at least i don't think it does.
no, those are only radios... we need RUUs
also i may rephrase when i said to wait 3 minutes, wait 20 instead RUUs take some time to flash also if your phone does not restart after pressing the power button dont pull the bttery wait some more
Hm... dunno if im comfortable sending it away

the unbrick wizard in Texas I linked you to is named Josh, his username here is connexion2005 - do a search on here
he has like 416 thanks
and he only has like 700 total posts, so he is apparently saving a lot of hard bricked phones!! (have you seen anyone else on XDA with 400+ thanks?)
and if you send the phone Express Mail Service (EMS), our post office here in America is quite reliable, I have never lost an EMS package and I have shipped hundreds of them on ebay over the last 15 years. I would feel comfortable sending my G2 to him, because his reputation is quite good online, and the bad people get slammed pretty fast online!

Ok, in that case, i may give him a go if i find i can't fix it myself.
And, does it matter what RUU i put on my phone? Because mine's an unbranded one from the UK, so say if i put a BellMobile one on there, would it mess things up?
I am in need of help! My phone is dead. Here's the rundown
AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II (i317)
Used on the Straight Talk Network
Running the latest Unofficial CM12, Lollipop 5.01 for the last week and loved every bit of it. No problems.
I cracked my screen in July and never got it fixed. The cracks spread and I was planning on getting it fixed, but haven't yet. I dropped it two days ago and then the screen wouldn't come back on. The buttons lit up and it would even ring when called. So I thought my screen was finally gone and started looking for a replacement. I took the battery out because I didn't want it ringing without the ability to answer it. Yesterday I put the fully charged battery in and attempted to turn the phone back on. It will not come back on and I think it's more than just the screen now.
Red LED blinks. Half of the screen seems like it is turning on, but then it all goes dark again. Will not enter Download or Recovery. I've been reading and thinking this is more of a hardware issue than software. I've flashed dozens of Roms with only minor issues here and there. I haven't had any issue with Lollipop and can't see it being related, although I could really be wrong.
My question is, is my phone dead? Do I need a new motherboard, along with the screen I was already gonna replace? If that's the case, I will just replace the phone and start over, unless anyone has free parts they want to donate, LOL! Seriously, just looking for input and suggestions.
Thanks

There's pretty much nothing to say, but I guess I will.
You can't get to download mode, can't get to recovery mode, you can't see the screen......
If you're looking for a second opinion to say you're f*cked, then consider this it.
If you could get to download mode or recovery mode, it has a chance. But you still have hardware issues like the screen to replace. Which is not fun.
Possible yes. But unless you really know what you're doing and careful as hell, you take the chance of hosing something else up. Like ripping a ribbon cable or yanking a soldered wire out....
I tried replacing a Motorola Atrix screen. The result of that was me buying an Atrix 2.
Unless you are emotionally attached to this phone, bury it.
If not,

I did some quick searches and doesn't appear to be any kind souls out there with spare parts. You may want to try CraigList or something like that.
Good luck to you

Hey, Thanks man! That's what I needed to hear. I have been flashing Roms since I had a Sprint PPC 6700 and I have enough experience to now I was f#@$ed, but I really needed to hear it from someone else. Someone with developer experience. A screen assembly and motherboard cost more than another phone on ebay or Swappa. Welp, back to the drawing board. Anyone got a note 2 they wanna sell cheap?

No worries.
Feb 3 I'll be on 2 years with my Note 2. Longest I've kept one. Only have one smallish crack on the lower left corner.
With everything I've done to it I'm amazed it's still working.
