Phone or Tablet to download APKs from Google. Does it matter? - Fire TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a Android (4.4.1) phone that I use to download APKs from Google and then sideload to Fire TV. Will the fact that I am using a phone to download the APK result in getting only a phone version of the software? Or does the APK bundle versions for all screens?

[Q] sideload paid apps?

Forgive me for the newbie question. I'd like to sideload a couple of paid Google apps that aren't available for Fire TV. I searched through the forum, but couldn't find an answer. Is it possible to do this?
When I try, I get INSTALL_PARSE_FAILED_NO_CERTIFICATES
Yes it can be done but you will have to get your hands on the APK for it to work. This is because Google Play Store does not exist for the FTV. So to get around this:
1. Get on a PC and log into your Google Play Store.
2. Find the app you want to load onto the FTV.
3. Copy the URL of the webpage of the app you want the APK for.
4. Now go to: http://apps.evozi.com/apk-downloader/ and plug that URL in.
5. Download the APK to your PC.
Now it is just a matter of pushing the APK to the FTV to install the app. That's about it. Remember, just because you can get your hands on an Android app and install it on the FTV does not mean it will work 100%. All you can really do is install it and see if it works or not.
Thanks. I'll give it a try.

Apple Music - Android

Installed the apk. Seems to only work in portrait mode. Seems only interesting in Landscape. Please share if anyone knows how to do that.
Not much interaction possible without a mouse, but at least its a start.
Hi,
I've tried sideloading the app for this using ES File explorer on my Fire tv (1st Gen) but I get an "error parsing the package" error and haven't gone any further. How did you manage to get it on your device please?
The same apk worked on my Fire HDX tablet so i know its not corrupted and I thought the OS on the AFTV was ok as it states on the play store its for Android 4.3 and above.
I used adb Fire

Amazon Fire TV Stick - Not able to install ShowBox 4.9.2 and Terrarium 1.7.1 (modded)

Dear Friends,
I just bought new Fire TV Stick and it is working well. I want to install Terrarium 1.7.1 (modded) apk as well as Showbox 4.9.2 (modde) apk but both didn't install and shows "Installation Failed" by Fire TV Stick.
I , obviously , enabled enabled "App from unknown Sources" under developer option in Settings.
I tried to install the base (Not premium/ No Mod versions) installed ok but modded/premium apk not installing.
However , the same modded apk files of above listed apps working well in my Android Phone..
I tried to use "Apps2Fire" App, which is otherwise working well for installation of others app from mobile to Amazon Fire TV, is not working for these modded apk. The modded apk files are successfully transferred to Fire TV but installation is failed every time I tried to install. I also tried adbfire software to install android apps from PC to Amazon Fire TV Stick. Transfer from PC to Fire Stick OK but installation failed.
I am not keen to use the non-premium versions of both apps as a lot of advertisements kills your joy.
P Lease help me to find a way-out to install these modded apks in Amazon Fire TV.

AirDroid on AFTV Stick?

Is anyone able to get sideload AirDroid onto there Amazon FireTV Stick (non-rooted)? I always get DEXOPT error or something like that during the actual install process. From what little reading I did it looks like its due to android SDK version apk was made with and version SDK that is installed on fire stick or something.
Thanks,
~SG

Have you tried pushing it to the sdcard and just installing it manually?
Side note-what are you trying to do? Push notifications and texts to the AFTV?
I mainly use it to view and control the screen of many of my android based devices as well as the camera in most of my android devices over the internet. Yes i have tried manually installing via adb command but always get the same error.

I just got it working... by downloading and sideloading the latest version in rev 3 (3.2.6) from here: airdroid(DOT)en(DOT)uptodown(DOT)com/android/old.
Out of the box, it works fine for transferring files through wifi (which can also be done with ES File Explroer easily). It also works as a keyboard input and screen mirror when USB connected to PC.
HOWEVER, there are several options for AirDriod that can only be enabled through the Firestick interface, and, at least for me, cannot actually be accessed (like it wants touchscreen input typically found on phones).
Overall, I'm missing the benefit of having it running in it's current state. ES File Explorer does file transfer fine. I can't really see the application of screen mirror and keyboard control when it must be plugged in to my pc. It's pretty useless in t's current form, imho.
Update: Also, since it's an outdated version, it will not work over the web portal.

Sony TV (KDL-49W800F)

How can I get the Hulu movie app installed on my Sony TV since I can't download it directly from Google Play due to region-restriction? Someone tells me to download the APK file instead, but I've no idea how to install Hulu APK file?
