I bought my phone unlocked and don't know what the unlock code is so I want to avoid the possibility of relocking the phone thru my noobness. I will be rooting the phone to load different roms. I've read in another thread that rooting and flashing other roms will not affect the locked/unlocked state of the phone.
I am seeking confirmation that this is correct. Also on the this topic, is there anything that I could do accidentally to relock the phone?
Rooting and changing roms will not effect the lock. You would pretty much have to know the code to re-lock it.
@ triangles you can root the phone and you can flash roms and kernals with no problem. you can updated your radio version as well without worrying about anything.
if you need any info on how to root or anything just ask good luck
lg g2x rooted
mod cyanogen-eaglesbloodv2.5
trinity oc kernal

If I have an unlocked LG-G2X with Gingerbread on it and I root the phone and flash the CMD 9 ICS on it.. would it re-lock the phone because I need to know before I do it.. And is there any way to unlock the phone for free.
I want to install a aosp rom on my Z1 compact.
My Z1 compact is running and i am trying to unlock the bootloader. I have entered *#*#7378423#*# which says i cant unlock the bootloader.
Is there any other method to unlock the bootloader?
No, bad luck.
Do you think it will be possible in the future?

Who knows, it's a tiring subject, so either return your Phone and buy a SimFree Phone or keep it in the hope that maybe you'll be able to, but don't hold your breath.
2ndBoot method possible?
For some Android phones with a locked bootloader, for example Motorola Defy, a "2nd boot" method has been used to use custom roms.
The way I understand it, this leaves the stock kernel in place, so that the locked bootloader can boot the stock kernel that it insists on.
Using root permissions, the system is modified so that at some stage in the stock boot process, the boot process restarts with a possibly different, modified kernel and the definitely different, custom userspace system, for example AOSP.
Has this been done with Xperia devices, especially the Z1C?

This is extremely difficult to accomplish unless the kernel supports loading kernel modules on the fly, and the Z1C stock kernel doesn't. In fact, most devices don't these days since it enables things like this once the security of the ROM is compromised.
@325i. You will most likely (like 99.99%) never be able to unlock your current Z1C, return it and get an unlockable one, or change your mind about wanting to unlock it.
Other than warranty issues, and possibly redeeming your Google Drive space, are there any practical ramifications to simply leaving the bootloader unlocked (or, conversely, locked?) on an S-off device? I'm inclined to leave it bootloader unlocked unless I have a warranty issue, as it seems the safest way to make sure I'm never locked out, but I'm curious to know if there are any reasons to lock it from a security perspective.
I say that because right now when I lose root due to an OTA, I just boot (but not install) philz touch recovery to re-root, which I am assuming is allowed because I am s-off. (because otherwise root would be trivial). It seems that as long as I can do that, the bootloader lock/unlock state is somewhat pointless.
You are allowed to flash custom ROMs because you have installed a custom recovery, which was allowed because you unlocked your bootloader. I would leave the bootloader unlocked until a relock is required (if it even comes to that). As far as I know, that poses no threat as long as you know what you're flashing on your device. Anyone with more experience with this may correct me, as I am quite new to the HTC world.

I actually only had TWRP installed briefly to "restore" the Dev Edition nandroid (and by briefly, I mean I booted it once). As soon as the Dev Edition ROM was up, I reverted to the stock DE recovery. Since then, I just "boot" Philz CWM to re-root (since TWRP fails when booted on 4.4.3 for some reason.)
Hi, I got the lg g4 H-815 , android version 5.1 and v10c software. I want to root the phone because i want to flash roms and kernels to get a better performance.
, but im confused will all the guides, therefore i got some questions i would really appriciate if someone answers them.
1. Do i have to unlock bootloader in order to gain root access and flash roms etc?
2. What is the most easiest and reliable guide to root the phone?
Sorry for my English.
Root is not needed for flashing ROMs, what is needed is TWRP and unlocked bootloader, when the bootloader is locked it means that it will not boot up if it detects that you flashed 'stuff' unsigned by LG - custom ROMs! Anyway if you only want to root it and you don't mind of MM, you can root it on LP without unlocking the bootloader. Although, if I was on your place I would hold on a minute and checked my serial number first because it is more likely that your phone can die at any minute, independently of what you are actually doing on your phone... G4 is a ticking bomb, when mine fell into a bootloop (it's not like a bootloop when you flash something wrong, the phone is like dead ), since I have unlocked my bootloader LG refused to repair it so many times... They just gave my number to SBE and said that they will repair my phone if I pay, guess what, these idiots refused as well. About 3 times tho. So I was on my own, after a month I managed to make my phone work(ish). I'm not saying I fixed it because this is unfixable. I just made it work. Not fully functional tho, at least it will last I'll buy a new phone, and no more LG for me. And I would recommend you to have a think about doing this stuff. If you have warranty they will replace it immediately, but if not you'll need to fight them up, as I am going to. PSST, you can still root it on LP without losing the warranty, remember!!
question about root, bootloader, fastboot, encryption and question about "thiefs"
i plan to buy the g7 thinq, european monosim because it's what i can easly find here in italy, but i don't understand something, i've read here and in other places but still don't understand
so, if i buy a new phone i need root, i think i'm fine with stock os (if is pie version) and:
if i, of course, set a password and someone steal my phone, what's the difference between having an unlocked bootloader or not? can i lock access from within developer option? oem unlock right? does it matter?
if i use this method i will not lose warranty contrary to official method but i cannot relock bootloader?
fastboot isn't a standard boot mode every phone has? is the same as adb access option? is useful for adb commands when the phone doesn't boot?
is the phone encrypted? i saw there is an option to encrypt sd, but the phone memory?
what about an encrypted sd if the phone breaks?
i cant find an answer for all this, hope someone of you can enlighten me
Even if u unlock it security feruturs will still be on.
You can encrypt phone and/or SD
I recommend official unlock if u whant to unloock it. LG have repaired two officialy unlocked phones for me. If u start crossflasing and using unofficial I don't think they will bother to repair.
Be aware they rooting using Magisk is a loosing game.. Googel is always updating safty-net and som of your games and bank apps will stop working.

i'm not using bank app and i plan to disable all googel apps
Whell its there and I use it
Twrp don't work with stock rom.. So that's a no go for you (u have to reflash it every time u whant to use it then flash stock boot. There are no roms anyway except vanilla.
I reverted back to locked/unrooted... Don't nead root on everyting works on this phone and root just caused important apps to not work..
So just flash away.

i'd use twrp probably only for the filemanger if i mess up something and the phone doesn't boot anymore, not a problem...i mean, with stock recovery i can do a total backup to restore, right?
what do you mean with "important apps"? you mean stock apps or some pay apps and bank etc ? what apps?
