i just recived OTA update, and the TWRP don't allow to instal the update. i just want to go back to stock recovery. readind threads i find out i cannot return to 2.22.709.4 stock recovery, doesn't work with lollipop and brick the phone, i just want to know what and how install a custom recovery install OTA's. Thanks 4 the help
You can't proceed OTA installation with custom recovery.
You need stock recovery for your device current version (check in settings - about - software information for the number) or the one for targetted OTA.
Get the stock recovery here :

i don't understand, i need the stock recovery to do OTA, i get that, but i only need to know which recovery version ihave to install and not bootloop the phone with lollipop
I mentioned - (check in settings - about - software information for the number)
get that number then find the stock recovery with that no. in the thread that I linked.
Make sure your current ROM in a non-rooted ROM with nothing changed in system.

The software version is 4.24.709.2, and now?
Do I have to repeat what I already said two times above ?
find the stock recovery with that no. in the thread that I linked.
So download that 4.24.709.2 stock recovery that you can find on post #4
That's all that I can help ... I don't want to repeat many times what I already posted when I first respond to your post... so good luck.
Intriguingly, this is the second thread in the last couple days where someone with HTC__621 as their CID can't get back to stock. I'm with ckpv5, please re-read what he wrote.
(But I can't help but wonder if there's something specific about this CID? Or just coincidence?)

Usually those happen when they don't follow that 14 steps and/or have old data restored.

Hi,
I did a few searches but didn't find a solution.I have a developer M8 rooted and S-off. It's running 4.4.2. How do I go about installing the 4.4.3 OTA HTC apdate? Would I loose root and S-off in the process? Do I need to go back to stock to apply this update or do I need to take the update at all. I'm looking to flash the latest Viper rom and just wanted to check before I do. Sorry if this question was ask before.
When your target is to flash a custom ROM based on 4.4.3; you don't really need all those going back to stock and apply OTA stuff
What you need is flash the 4.4.3 firmware of device version then install ROM ... that's all

First make sure you do have the developer M8 as I find many said the same thing but in actual fact they are not.
If yes ... I have the untouched 2.22.1540.4_firmware.zip here : http://sourceforge.net/projects/htconem8/files/2.22.1540.4_firmware.zip/download
then follow either this guide : http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/general/vomerguides-m8-bootldr-unlock-s-off-t2800727
or this guide : http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/development/firmware-flashing-panic-attacks-t2824048
on how to flash the firmware zip
As the firmware is untouched, it will restore the stock recovery to your device.
So after successfully flashed the firmware, you should flash the custom recovery of your choice again in order to flash the intended custom ROM.
I'm gathering from the OP's location and past devices, that AT&T is the carrier.
If so, I would recommend flashing the 2.23.502.3 posted here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-htc-one-m8/development/att-4-4-3-2-22-1540-3-debloated-sense-6-t2837365
This contains the latest AT&T firmware (including newest AT&T radio). Then flash whatever 4.4.3 custom ROM you want.
On the 2.22.1540 firmware, I was getting some random data drops on AT&T. After flashing the 2.23.502 firmware, everything is working perfectly for me.
EDIT: My bad, I somehow completely missed the critical point that the OP has the Dev Edition. ckpv5 is correct for the Dev Edition, 1540 firmware is what you want (the firmware released with the latest Dev Edition OTA).
That's why I said that he need to confirm whether he really has developer edition M8.
If it is At&T .. I will not recommend the Dev Edition firmware (in fact I will not get involve as I don't know much about At&T device)

Appreciated your help here. I can confirm the phone came with a unlock bootloader and my CID number is BS_US002. Does this mean I got the developer version of the M8?
If so, do I just follow the guide you post above, and do I need to change my CID to the super 11111111?

BS_US002 is Dev Ed.
There is no need to change to SuperCID when flashing the firmware meant for your device version; no CID and MID change is needed.

This part below, my phone freezes on the HTC logo. Do I repeat the entire step from beginning when it freezes or that specific command it freezes on? See below.
fastboot oem rebootRUU
Note: if this command freezes, just disconnect the USB cable and hold the power and volume down buttons until the device reboots.
Then, repeat the steps above again.

Major thanks to you sir. I use the second guide you provide above after multiple fail with adb and all seems to be working fine. So if I understand you correctly, as long as I flash the latest firmware which I now have and regain recovery, there is no need to take the OTA from HTC to move from 4.4.2 to 4.4.3? So I can now flash roms base on 4.4.3 like Viper?
Yes...now you can flash 4.4.3 Sense based ROM like viper.
If you ever need the stock ROM, just follow the Stock Backup link in my sig.
Hello there, although Im not really a noob when it comes to flashing phones, I have rooted etc this phone but got a problem.....
If i flash a rom with 2.22.401.5 and similar 2.22 roms, they flash correctly, but on bootup, take about 5 minutes to boot into phone, so at the moment, im using 1.54.401.10 earlier version of insert coin rom, I got no idea how to flash the firmware to upgrade it, so need your help!!!!!
by the way, i am unable to s-off with firewater because my phone been patched, it says
thank you any help received
Two method as option :
1. Restore the stock backup and do OTA update to 4.4.3 then you can flash 4.4.3 sense based ROM.
2. When your target is to flash a custom ROM based on 4.4.3; you don't really need all those going back to stock and apply OTA stuff.
What you need is flash the untouched 4.4.3 firmware of your device version then install ROM
So ... what is your device current firmware (not software version) ?
To flash an untouched firmware, you don't need S-Off
im on 4.4.2 and my cid thing is ORANG001 , baseban 1.17.2133156 etc, build number 1.54.401 cl325784 release keys
Your build number is not 1.54.401 that's the custom rom talking. Your official build number is different. Check my thread and look for the cid and check the accompanied main number
its orang001 1.54.61.5
Yeah.....correct.
but dunno what to do next lol

ckpv5 already told you what to do next. Restore a backup for your device and do the OTA to 4.4.3
COLLECTION of Stock backup's
Head over to Mr Hofs thread linked above in the section for stock backups there is ORANG001 1.54.61.5 both TWRP and Philz version for whichever you prefer to use.
Download the backup and unpack the .zip file into the backup directory on your device, this information you can find in post 2 on the same thread(Collection of stock backups...) Restore your backup.
Flash the stock recovery, this too you can find in post 1 in the recovery section 1.54.61.5. Flash it with fastboot flash recovery recovery.img The command/info is also on post 1 in same thread.
Reboot the device once back to stock, OTA notification will appear, do the OTA and you're set :good:
Now that's what i call.......

For your software version 1.54.401.5 (provided that is your current firmware, means you do have the Intl EU WWE CID), you don't really need S-Off
So... first confirm your what your CID is. If it is EU WWE then ....
Your options :
1. Restore stock ROM 1.54.401.5 then install the matching stock recovery then do multiple OTA up to 3.28.401.6 or 3.28.401.7 whichever is available for your CID. Then reflash custom recovery then you can flash any latest custom Sense ROM that you want. (In any case, you don't need to relock bootloader)
Check this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2701376
2. relock bootloader then flash in RUU mode the untouched higher version firmware. But you may need to flash many firmware step by step to follow the increase firmware no. and it's not easy to find all the related untouched firmware and this is a bit complicated for newbies so I suggest you go to option 1.

Sorry didn't understand what you mean I lost My Stock Rom I Installed Rom From This Site
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2701376
From Stock Android Backup
I have Installed
3.28.401.6 - TWRP Thanks to 10rdan
now I Found The Trouble What I mentioned every time I tried To update the phone goes for Recovery Can you explain How To fix This Step by Step Please
1. Are you sure that's the correct backup ? You mentioned earlier your stock ROM is 4.4.2 which is should be 1.54.401.5 or 1.54.401.10
Post result of fastboot getvar all (delete serial no. & imei no.) to determine the correct version.
2. You need to replace the TWRP that you installed with a stock recovery.img
OTA needs stock recovery.img not TWRP.img
Can't use TWRP for OTA update, use only stock recovery

Hi,
I've been searching for the last 3 hours on how to return to the stock ROM for HTC One M8.
I was previously on an older version of Android Revolution running 4.2.2 - I decided to update to the latest version of Android Revolution and it broke many things - including WiFi.
I know to fix this, I need to go back to OTA ROM and then update the firmware from there in order to be able to use these roms running Lollipop.
Unfortunately, I have no idea how to get started... I've been looking everywhere.
Keep in mind I can also use a Telus (Canada as well) rom.
Any help appreciated.

Looks like I've got HBOOT-3.16.0.000
So I will need only the HBoot-3.16 ones, correct?
Secondly I am unsure what he means by this part.
"2. Download latest custom recovery. You need to get the same one as the one you are restoring. So if a backup was done using TWRP, you need to install TWRP to recover.
TWRP: http://androidfiles.org/?developer=M8&folder=Recoveries
PhilZ: http://goo.im/devs/philz_touch/CWM_Advanced_Edition/m8
CWM:
3. Reboot your device in fastboot and flash custom recovery"
I currently already have Android Revolution running - and I have TWRP installed. Do I need to still do this?
Well... you don't give the info that is needed to determine the correct software version for device, I can't help much ..
I gotta go now .. bed time .. I thought I can help when I receive the info needed before I go to bed ... so good luck, maybe someone else will help you.
