Did you see this - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2642081 ? I haven't done it but it says you need root first - http://forum.xda-developers.com/son...ck-step-step-to-rooted-lollipop-14-6-t3213465.

Ok I know there's a lot of threads about rooting the DHD; and i already know that firmware 2.42 cannot be rooted yet.
However i am asking here if we can have temporary root!?
I mean let's say i want to sell the phone so i want to backup my applications' data (especially games with hours of play) so i can restore them on the new phone.
And of course in that case, we need root access!
So is there is a way to do so?!

You can backup your contacts and messages without rooting your phone. But if you want the same image there is only one option to root. I'm afraid there is no any thread here to downgrade the build number ya mentioned. If I were you still I'd try this method.
Who knows ya might find the way to sneak out Good luck
Ive been through the forum and i want some input. I would like to root.my play but im not sure which method.to use. What I want is to get n option to unroot. Im running 2.3.3, R800i. There was this option to downgrade frst to 2.3.2 and use Gingerbreak but that seem to to have a clear unroot path. And there's the doomlords easy root. Can anyone point me to th right direction?

Why would you want to unroot btw?

Go with Doomlord's Easy Root. In that thread, found here, when you scroll down through the instructions, he has also provided an Unrooting method for use ONLY if you use his method to root to begin with.

I understand that rooting voids the warranty so just in case I need to use that warranty I can just unroot the device. Im not sure though if they'll know if the device was rooted even if you unroot it.

Factory unlocked Neo with root getting ICS?
guys, but what about this situation? (don't be surprised at my possibly noob questions)
I bought my Neo unlocked, I rooted it some time ago, but now I'm curious about the ICS update..will i have to unroot to do the update safely? I didn't delete any of the junk/unnecessary apps, i just froze them..so, I've been reading across different threads dealing with updates for rooted phones, and it seems that I'm gonna have to have to unfreeze the apps, unroot and then do the update via PC and not OTA..is that right?
what I would like to know is this: is it possible for me to uninstall all the unnecessary apps and then upgrade to ICS? I would uninstall only a few apps such as the chinese and japanese (POBox) keyboard, News & Weather, Office Suite, and probably just a few more minor ones..
Some say I can both keep root and upgrade to ICS without any problems but I read in many threads that I shouldn't do that, especially if I uninstalled any pre-installed apps..
Dear All,
Please be patient with me.
I live in UAE and cant find professional developers like your here.
I have Xperia play R800i 2.3.4 xxx.62 kernal.
I just want to get rid from pre-installed games and apk.
I tried to root my phone using Sony web site steps with fastboot steps.
the application could not push the superuser to the phone "I got error copying superuser .. r-only file"
After that I found the I can read the root from my phone but I can not control the files.
I just need to root the phone without loosing PSX emulator of flashing new custom roms.:silly:
Is there easiest way?
I found software on net named oneclickroot (30$), is this one real or fake?
Please help me I'm new in rooting phones.
Thanks.

Rooting your phone is free don't by 30 dollar software its probably a trick. Just unlock your boot loader from Sony sight and flash a custom kernel that's rooted

What about other issues (baterry, wifi, touch pads... all working and guranted?).

Did you tried to root with http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2219711
You can always downgrade to .42 firmware and root it with zergrush.
It's easier to root it with custom kernel (unlocked bootloader), but you can do it even without unlocking your bootloader.
Sorry if this is a dumb question. Can someone please explain what it means that Bravia in Album will no longer work if I unlock the bootloader? I've been reading through many resources and have seen some old and new reports that either make no sense or contradict one another. This is my first Sony device so I'm not used to having to backup a TA partition or anything like that. My goal is to have a fully functional rooted stock firmware. I'm mainly sticking with stock to preserve the camera app since I will use it the most. From the sound of it, It seems like I'll be breaking something by rooting my device. Is this the case? If so, what gets broken and is there a way to root the stock firmware otherwise?

Rooting doesn't require unlocking bootloader. Unlocking bootloader is when you will need to start worrying about TA and DRM and such. Just root using this method and you won't need to worry about backing up TA first: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2784900
camaro is right, as long as the root exploit works (i.e. as long as the upstream aosp kernel bugfix isn't merged) an unlocked bootloader is only required to flash a different kernel.
Thanks guys, every thing worked great

So I'm probably going to go the next step and unlock the bootloader soon. I'll do a TA backup before, for sure. Does unlocking the bootloader break any of the apps or services?

Cool, thanks! So basically just the X-reality(Bravia engine) will be gone. Not sure if I need that so maybe I'll take a spin with it off for a few days and see if I like it still. I read somewhere that Netflix was broken from it but that report was old so I'm guessing it's fixed now.

You may want to resurrect that old thread to see if anyone else has input. I never unlocked bootloader as the stock ROM rooted was sufficient for me, so I can't say for sure what gets lost.

Hi,
I'm trying to follow this guide to root my Xperia M, but it is required to have an unlocked bootloader. So, i'm trying to unlock it by following this guide and there it is recommended to do a TA Backup. For doing so, i'm found this thread, but as you can see in the FAQ, it is required to have a rooted phone...
So, can someone help me here?..... Am i missing something?
Greetings!
Haha, you can say it as a paradox, but there are two ways in rooting, with a locked or unlocked bootloader. But if it's your first time doing so, I HIGHLY recommend rooting on a locked bootloader.
Just go here, and right after rooting, go here, RIGHT AWAY. You're gonna need it and it might just save your life in the future.

Will this method work on my Xperia M C1904 (4.1.2 , 15.1.C.1.17 ) ?
My bootloader can be unlocked.
Yes, but if it doesn't, use this instead.
