Boot loop after flashing CWM recovery - Xperia Z1 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys!
I flashed DooMLoRD's CWM-Based Recovery 6.0.4.6 Touch Recovery so I could get CM 11 on my z1c. Once I flashed the boot image, I booted my phone normally and went into the recovery menu to make sure things were working, which they were. After confirming I got a prompt saying that I didn't have root access and was asked if I wanted to root my phone, once I accepted the prompt things broke.
My phone is now in a boot loop which doesn't make it past the Sony logo, going into the recovery will give me the recovery screen with only the CWM logo and a black background and no options, then turn off and reboot again after a couple of seconds. I tried re-flashing the boot image and since that didn't work I tried with the ftf file as well (14.2.A.1.114) and got an error.

I was rooted before flashing CWM and had bl unlocked as well, USB debugging (of course) was also enabled and when I connect to flashtool now it says that its no longer active which I think is causing the above error but idk.
What I can still do is connect my phone in either flash or fastboot mode, but I have no recovery or access to android OS.
Any help would really be appreciated as I'm out of ideas on what to do, if you need more info I will try to provide as much as I can!
Thanks for any help in advance!

Do you have fastboot/adb on your computer? If so, you can easily flash new kernel and recovery and you're good to go.

Thanks for the reply! And yes I do have them installed so I'll give that a try. Btw just to make sure is it ok to extract the kernel from the ftf file I was using or should I flash a specific one?

Personally I would flash CM boot, and twrp recovery. Then, you could go any direction you want. You'd just have to have whatever ROM you want to flash copied on your SD card. If you want stock rooted, you could use a prf from this forum. If you want straight stock unrooted, you could use FT after you flash the prf, ( I think it's not recognizing your phone bc of the kernel you flashed). If you want CM, flash CM.
Also, here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=920746&page=289 - someone had the same problem as you, and Androxyde helped them out with a file that made FT work. Read the page in the link, and the next page. Maybe you could ask him for the same.

Ok I'll give that a try as soon as I get back from work, hopefully it will work and if not I will try that file out and see if I get anything from there. Thanks again for the help levone, I really appreciate it!:highfive:
Edit: Ok problem solved! I tried flashing CM and the boot loop was not fixed but that patch file from Androxyde fixed the prob with Flashtool so from there I just flashed my old ftf file again so I'm good to go now
Thanks!

[XPERIA S - LT26] - Issue install with ROM

Hi guys,
Long time reader, first time writer.
First of all, I do know that there is somewhere — maybe — an answer to my problem, but after 2 weeks scratching my head I just need someone to help me out. I got too many tabs open and can't think straight. So if it's just to send me links to some other post, don't bother. I won't mind having other post to read if you take time to explain
I got an Xperia S (LT26) which is unlocked. I am currently owning a Mac (on Yosemite), which led me to quite a few annoyances with some Windows tips that I find on forums (mainly from here). I know, parallels exists, but if I can do without it that would be great. I have Flashtool (0.9.19.8) installed as well as Android Studio with the SDK files.
Ok, so here is my problem.
Phone is rooted, bootloader unlocked, but not debbuging ON anymore.
My phone won't boot. It is stuck to the Sony Logo Screen.
I am trying to put an old firmware but I always got the "ERROR FLASHING - ABORTED" after trying to install a new firmware.

I do manage to be on Flashmode AND Flashboot mode.
On Flashboot mode, I can't reboot via ADB:
09/058/2015 16:58:26 - ERROR - This action needs a connected device in ADB mode.
When I ask to get the info here is what I got:

09/059/2015 16:59:20 - INFO - FASTBOOT version info: [ version: 0.5 ]
I installed CWM-Based Recovery (6.0.1.9) which helped me accessing the phone through my Mac, unfortunately I don't have any backup that I can use... I — desperately — tried to copy some boot.img but I encountered the MD5 mismatch.
I also tried to fix it through Sony Bridge for Mac, but I got the EU Error 2003.
If someone could give me a hand, that would be much appreciated. Be sure to be clear though, I might not be as good as you
TO SUM UP:
- Phone stuck on Sony Screen
- Can't install a firmware (6.2.B.0.200 & 6.2.B.0.211)
- Bootloader unlocked
- Phone Rooted
- Debugging currently OFF - I did put in ON before... :crying:
- I have CWM 6.0.1.9 installed
- Can't repair my phone through Sony Bridge
- Have access to the phone when USB Mounted.
Thanks to anyone who will take time to reply, and if you need me to do something just let me know !

You can try this way:
1/ Download [ROM][Xperia S] 6.2.B.1.96 World Generic (Zipaligned, Rooted, Deodexed + Busybox) from here (not Original FTF)
2/ Download adb plugin for total commander

As per Your log, it doesn't seem You are flashing the correct ftf file. You seem to be flashing the bootloader locking ftf which is there by default. Try selcting the correct ftf.

Impossible restore stock fw/flash kernel/ remove cyanogen recovery

Hi guys, I flashed CM 12.1 with CM recovery on my device one month ago then I tried to install CWM-TWRP dual
recovery to make a nandroid system backup:
1- I tried to install via CM recovery and I've obtained this result:
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E:footer is wrong
E: signature verification failed
Installation aborted
The CM recovery seems to install only cm12.1 new releases and gapps. Same result installing any other recovery, except flashing via fastboot.
Infact I flashed "Z1c_DooMLoRD_AdvStkKernel_FW-757_v04" (CWM) and worked fine, so I made all wipe and tried a clean
install of CM 12 obviously without CM recovery, but when I power on the device the CWM has been removed and the fu**in'
CM recovery it's back again!!!
2- I tried to flash a new fw via flashtool and the result was this:

Download this to your phone somewhere - - https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B1...FNwVWVQcnpUeHB1dGppd2pj/view?usp=docslist_api -- then install app 'Rashr' from Play Store, then open Rashr, and choose 'recovery from storage', and select the file you downloaded. Confirm 'yes' and reboot to recovery, (TWRP).
As far as Flashtool, make sure you have the latest version, and I've found it works best with stock ROM/kernel. I always get errors trying to flash with CM installed. You can flash a stock-based ROM in recovery, and then use FT
Awesome! Flashed TWRP with Rashr! Thanks a lot levone1!!!!:laugh::laugh:
But i would to know what happened, d'you know?

CM12 comes with CM recovery. I'm not sure exactly why, or where they're trying to go with it. It seems like most people don't want to use it, and it's really limited. It's probably a work in progress...
So, the CM recovery probably "locked" my kernel?
I can't understand the utility of a recovery like this, hope CM team updates next releases making it like CWM or TWRP...otherwise it's totally pointless, in my opinion
Sorry levone1 I've another questione: if flash stock Fw with TWRP, The TWRP recovery remains on device or is removed?
Maybe it's a stupid question, but my "technical" competences are limited.
Thanks a lot!

With bootloaders, it gets a little complicated, and I understand very little myself. What I think I understand is that there's the old 'recovery', which is not it's own partition, but is part of the kernel, and the new Sony boot loader with real recovery, (separate partition). Unless you used Emma, and updated your bootloader, you're probably bound to the old way, and your kernel could affect the recovery. It's not a big deal if you're rooted, since you can flash a new recovery from the phone or on computer. If you are going to go stock, you can use Emma to update bl. I think the new recovery only works with stock kernel.

[Solved][C1905] Problem flashing Stock ROM with Flashtool

Hello everyone,
Edit: Solved the problem by using the version (0.9.18.6) of FlashTool.
So, I tried to rollback the phone into the Stock ROM, downloaded the latest Flashtool, downloaded the latest FTF ROM (C1905 15.4.A.0.23) but when I try to flash it with Flashtool, it asks me to shut the phone off, long press the Vol - button and put the USB cable, it starts to flash then abords... When I pull off the USB cable and try to boot up, I come again to CM12.1 like nothing happened.
Here is the log of my Flashtool :
