Using battery optimazation processes like juice defender, and even having advanced task killer working, lowering my brightness, and otherwise just having everything turned off like wifi, GPS, and all that business, im still seeing OUTRAGEOUS battery drain,
using the cyanogen nightly build.
this morning in 25 minutes
lost 16 percent battery
after coming off a 6 hour charge..
So.
the question is.
Where to start?
What to do, my phones just not makin it, its dyin all the time.

There are a few suggestions i would make. Just for background information have you used other Roms and if so was the battery ok for them or is this the first custom rom you have used? (just to compare to see if it is a new issue you are having with CM)
ok first i would get rid of the task killer. they do more harm then good Android will auto kill tasks and MANY of the tasks it kills are just stored in memory and are inactive causing little to no actual battery drain.
you can turn GPS back on it doesnt drain battery when not i use and can be useful to ahve on if you lose your phone.
If you havent done it yet search the forums and download SetCPU (or get it from the marketplace for a small fee) there are several posts about battery saving profiles on the forums or you can find one here.
A good post that has worked from some is to turn enable always on mobile ON (if previously turned off), turn auto sync ON (if previously turned off) TURN news / stocks/weather - OFF but keep your single google account turned ON.
I have no idea why or if this would work but have seen posts saying when they did this it did actually help.
If you havent tried to re calibrate your battery or the HTC charge method yet i would try hose as well (calibrate by charging to full draining it all the way till it shuts off then charge it back to full with out interrupting the charge.) The HTC charge method is to 1)charge the phone 8+ hours 2)unplug it and immediately turn it off 3)charge it for 1 hour. 4)power the phone on 5)unplug it for 2 minutes 6) then charge it on for another hour.
If you still arent getting very good battery life you can look for the app SystemPanel, if you purchase the full version you can get a history and see the top apps draining your battery (should let it run at least 24 hours while you use the phone normally so it can build data) this should show if you have an app that is hogging the battery. After all this if you are still having problems then you may try another rom or you may have a bad battery.
If i had to guess if this is a new issue i would bet that since you wiped to install CM6 you lost battery stats so a calibration and htc recharge will greatly reduce the problem.
your reply absolutely kicked ass, ill start trying all your suggestions tomorrow, im so happy i got an amazing answer from someone here and not flamed for being a dumb noob.
thanks again!
1. Get rid of CyanogenMod, flash Snacks 9.7 or DamageControl 3.2.3
2. Get rid of task killer
3. Turn off 4G/Bluetooth/GPS
To tell you the truth get rid of Juice Defender. I have never found it to help at all. It could even be the thing that is killing you. Get SwitchPro and and add the data connection to the widget. If you turn it off when you aren't using the phone, I have gone 2 hours without seeing 1 percentage drop. Just tapping a button to turn it on when you need it is nothing, and it takes about 15 seconds to reconnect. Juice defender is supposed to be doing the same thing while the screen is off, but as I said I don't think it works.
Other than that like Omega said, SetCPU really helps especially when you have the screen off if you set up the profile for everything. His advice is pretty solid, I just found another battery recalibration to work better which is to charge it for 8 or more hours with the phone on, unplug it, and then shut it off. Then plug it in and wait for it to turn green again, and unplug it wait for the light to turn off and repeat plugging it waiting and unplugging it 10 times with the phone off. Each time takes only about a min or so.
And there is no reason to get rid of CM, I use it and get equal battery than I did with DamageControl.

No problem at all i did a LOT of research and fiddling before i got my battery life to a level that i found sufficient. I use batterydefender/ultimate juice add on and it does turn off and on my 3g once set i had it set up right. Juice defender says i get x1.6 battery life right now according to it. I will say when i had juice defender alone it never said anything but x1 so it may be the add on helping. According to SystemPanel it uses almost no battery power (over 2-8-24 hours all show under .1% to give an example swype shows .1% and i do roughly 40 texts a day and very little keyboard use otherwise) so i dont think it is the main cause but you can always try the suggestion to turn off/on data yourself as well.
Any way let us know how everything works out for you and if you are testing each one at a time what made the biggest difference (i did almost all my battery saving stuff in bulk so no idea which one gave the most benefit for me just know doing all of it worked lol)
As I posted in another thread:
I am lucky to even get 12 hours with minimal use. No calls, just some texting and maybe browsing my bank website. Screen is always the killer for me, even on 20% brightness. If I go lower the screen actually flickers.
I bought the red HTC Chichitech batteries and they didn't help me at all.
Tried overclocking module, didn't change much.
The only app that ever shows any significant battery use (over 5%) is Maps, when I use maps.

I am rooted, S-OFF, using the Sense Modaco ROM. Battery usage was no better with the Stock Bell Rom before rooting or S-OFF.
My main concern is the screen flickering at low brightness. it's as if it's unable to decide on a specific level of brightness and makes me question if it's actually saving any power.
I set my phone to Auto brightness and I am going to see if that is actually worse of if it's on par with 20%.
Ugh - just realized there is another thread pretty much all about this. I thought it was a different issue. Still, does anyone know if there is a better batch of phones or something? I have a FutureShop warranty so it'd be easy enough for me to replace if it will actually provide a solution
No-one has posted anything, to my knowledge, about a different batch of phones having better battery life. I would check out the other threads about battery life (including those on the G2 side too) and see if you can get yours to last better. But it could just be something faulty on your phone/battery.
Auto-brightness would make it even worse..because there is some type of bug or something that isn't making it function like it should. I was also getting terrible battery life until I followed some of these steps: http://www.goodandevo.net/2010/05/20-tips-to-improve-htc-evo-4g-battery-life.html
Biggest killers are any widgets that are constantly updating..or facebook/twitter apps that are constantly updating. As well..i recommend SetCPU to underclock your phone when your screen is turned off. This should also help with conserving battery life along with some of the steps provided in that link.

I am considering waiting a month or so and then having mine replaced. Unless I managed to figure something else out. My HTC Legend had better battery life.

The reason I want to try auto or higher brightness is to see if lowering it was actually saving me any battery life. I am curious if there's a driver or display issues that causes it to use the same amount regardless of the setting. So far I don't seem to be running out any faster @ auto than I was at 20%, but it hasn't been a long enough time to tell for sure.
Also I am unable to do the battery tip for the evo because once I turn off the phone and go to charge it again, it's instantly green. But I am going to try it anyway even though it's green.
Since writing the first post I used the OC module to get my phone to 1.2ghz. I have SetCPU set to run on boot with the onDemand setting. I have a profile that says to slow the CPU when the screen is off. From what I've read it doesn't make a ton of difference with this particular phone, but we'll see...

Yep, that's what I found too, when you try and charge it thinks it's already charged and goes green straight away again. But as you said, worth a try.
I just wanted to report back and say that I had my phone replaced. So far so good:
- No screen flicker issue at low brightness
- Battery has lasted nearly 20 hours with moderate-heavy use (played NFS Shift, setup basically everything on the phone after rooting, installed all my apps, backups, flashed some roms, 20+ texts, 3-4 short calls, showing people random apps.)
If it's not all in my head then this is definitely much better now!
Curious. It seems that everyone who reports the screen flickering problem has poor battery life.
Defective displays?
I feel my battery life is pretty bad as well. I've unplugged the phone this morning at 7 AM. Now it's 2 PM, and I'm at 37%. In between, the only things I've done are: send/receive a few emails and chat on gtalk. Brightness is at 40%, animations are turned off, wifi and gps location off. Using latest Cyanogenmod (6.1.1) and have no screen flicker issues
Edit: 17 minutes later, it's now at 27%
How long have you had the phone for?
Initially the first few days I got the phone, battery life was really bad, could drain in a few hours.
After a week or two of use, I now have reasonable battery life, the phone can last all day with light usage and still have lots of juice left. Actually I think if you make a few calls and a few txts, battery could last 2 days. If you play with it, one day for sure but you need to plug in over night.
(if you're talking to me) It's quite new, just picked it up on Friday actually. Also I've kept on researching, and it seems that poor coverage (like I have at work, from 7 til 3) tends to drain the battery even more, since the phone keeps switching between HSPA, 3G, etc.
I had my first one for about a month at least. This replacement was from Saturday.
Today I've had my phone unplugged since 8am, it's 5:30pm and I have 45% battery left, but the screen is the #2 user. Standby is #1 @ 40% of my battery usage, due to over 4 hours of time without a signal. The screen is only 24% and has been on for 48 minutes. Voice calls is #3 at 23% battery usage, with 23mins of calling.
My other phone would have died by now.
Also I spent an hour of streaming bluetooth audio to my car. Bluetooth doesn't even register on the battery usage. I've never seen it use more than 2% and it's always on. I am not sure why people say it uses a lot.
Just want to share my experience.
I too had poor battery life. Stock Bell ROM. Got to 3:00 pm and it used to die. Use this for work. Pushing data all day from Exchange server, bluetooth on all day because I'm in and out of the car, talk on average 30 minutes per day, texting, surfing, tethering, blah blah. Believe it or not, my old Omnia II would get me thru the day no problem.
I was also tempted to return it. But I decided to try a few things. Installed Set CPU and a task killer at the same time. Shut down as many tasks as possible on start up. Widgets and accounts, except Exchange-push, run and sync every hour. I get about 40% battery by dinner. I am happy now .
I'm quite happy with my Desire Z's battery life, It lasts for about 36 hours with moderate use. I have Juicedefender and Ultimatejuice installed, data or wifi are opened only when an app needs data connection, this increased my battery life by 10 hours or sth like that. Nice app.
I had terrible battery life until I went overseas. It is a stock Bell ROM, but I arrived in Spain Monday and am using a Spanish SIM card.
My battery life has increased from 14 hours with Bell's 3G signal to my current 27 hours and 35% remaining battery using GSM and WiFi always on. Funny thing is that no matter where I am it says the screen is by far my biggest power drain.
Where did you buy your Desire Z and how did you get it replaced? I'm with Bell and they would take mine to send out for "repair" but not sure if that will do anything. This will take 3-6 weeks apparently and I'm not sure if they it is worth it.
I'm running 10 hours with that I consider fair usage (few calls, text, map/gsp, and facebook.) My display is the highest battery usage at 60% and on for about 1:45h. I'm very disappointed.
Hey,
it's the same with my G2.
Max 24h.
I've standard ROM installed.
No WiFi.
Brightness to about 30%.
Juice Defender is installed and I'm surfing and just the regular stuff, but even if it's just in standby, it's taking a lot of power (display takes most)
Best!

I bought mine at FutureShop since I didn't think Bell would let me without buying at least a month of service (or being an existing customer). I also purchased FutureShop's extended warranty which is how I was able to get it swapped for a new one so quickly.
I use the extended battery for the evo. Lasts about 1.5 days with ass loads of use. Just have to trim the plastic edges a bit.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
I have a couple of those red chichitech batteries but I wasn't able to notice any improvement with the problem phone.
My Desire Z also has a flickering screen at lowest brightness, and with moderate use it dies after about 12 hours max. Even on lowest brightness the screen ueses 59% battery. I rarely manage to make it through the day without having to charge the phone. Im on stock ROM with latest OTA (1.72) btw.
Gonna have it replaced next week just cause of the flickering screen. Has anyone tried the 1700mAH battery from seidio?
Hi all.
I am a new user of this community.
I am looking for a fix to my troubles.
Two weeks ago I updated my s4 mini to KitKat via OTA.
My Galaxy was TOTALLY officially, no custom rom, no recovery, no root... so i updated in the "classic" way.
From that day my smartphone drains battery really, really, fast and becomes really hot.
I am talking about 50° celsius when i only browse internet or use whatsapp to send message, and in the same time the battery drains fastly.
I rooted the phone, look to wakelock, look to process that could drain it, i made two factory reset, flash via Odin to the Italy Stock 4.4.2 (before it has got the English firmware version), buy a new battery, use different charger, calibrate it by app, calibrate it with the non-root method... but the problem persist.
I have got GPS off, Wifi OFF, NFC Off, S-Beam Off, Bluethoot Off... i only use internet via GSM or UMTS, no LTE.
To browse I use Opera Mini, but it's the same thing with Chrome.
I don't know what to do, i don't think it's an app problem, and it's impossibile that is by hardware, because with Jeally Bean the smartphone goes great.
I am actually trying Coolify after try Battery Doctor and a lot of other apps, like Gsam Battery, Greenify, Battery Calibrate ecc...
I've attacched some screenshot here. How can you see by the battery graph the battery drains like there's not a tomorrow in same time :crying:
ps: sorry for my english, how can you see by the screenshot i am italian.
Mee too I have this problem

You have to root and install recocery on your device. There's a thread arnd here created by Arco for you to find the recovery files. He also provided a kernel for KitKat regarding the wakelocks if im not mistaken. So flash that kernel and like i said, recovery and root is needed.

You may have a faulty firmware installed. Try updating to the latest one with Odin from sammobile.com.

Like I said, go to Arco's recovery thread. He provided a 4.4 kernel to fix Stock ROM problem
EDIT: Rite i guess this is sad for all of ya but Arco made the kernel for 4.2.2 stock only. No 4.4. Here's the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=43622999

Android says me that i've got the 56% of battery at this moment, with about 5 hours to use (only 34 minutes of screen on and GSM only mode)
In the same time 3C Toolbox says that i've spent the 34%. That's mean i've got the 64% of battery.
It could be an Android indicator error?
I tried to calibrate battery using Battery Calibrate, now i will do it with 3C toolbox, maybe it's better.
So, using Coolify i see a little improvement in temperature (never up 45°) and the drains seems go slowly then before.

If its the indicator, then what causes the CPU heating? Battery indicators in all devices are not accurate even after making it "accurate". Like eg, my Galaxy Wonder had 18% battery. After reboot while charging i got 90% and lasted a few hours. But honestly, no heating issues back then.
I still am confident that its a kernel problem. Being a flash-a-holic, i didn't try the 4.4 update then cos of KNOX

Yes, probably the only things to do is flash a new kernel and a new rom.
But i bought only 6 months ago this f***ed Samsung, so I don't wanna loose the warranty (i love my old Galaxy Next, i could flash it how many times i wanted, because there isn't no stupid knox)
I installed the App Opp Xposed Framework, i found that Google Service uses location even if i say him to don't use it, and even if i turn off gps. So I stop him, I even stop the "keep awake" options in his menù.
But in 5-10 minutes i didn't watch any differences in battery life.
So, i risked to put off "keep awake" in "Android System" (because i watched that "android system" keep awake the phone often), and nothing it's happening now. I am charging my phone, then I will try if there's battery improvement (but i don't think)
Same issue here. Got the phone two weeks ago. Sometimes during charging it would heat up to 47C. Also is this normal battery life?
Note: Power saving is on.
Mine got to 49C yesterday at 2am before going to sleep. Literally, when I touch the screen, I feel it burning. I'm on stock ROM. The battery, on the other hand wasn't one of the worst times I had it. It went down drastically from 10%, which isn't bad compared to going down drastically from like 30% like I once had.
It may be a battery problem, and it may be a firmware problem. But I suspect that it's both. I got 2 batteries, and when I have problems with one, I turn to the other, and it's a continuous loop. I guess 4.4.4 will fix some of the problems, hopefully.
The screenshots explain everything.
Peak temperature at 49C. The constant green line (straight line) shows when the phone was off. You can see the temperature going down then.

Searching online I found that battery drain is a problem of KitKat 4.4.2, and that S4, S4 mini and Note 3 are the most affected by this problem. The factory reset, that is often suggested is useless. I made it 4 times in the last 2 weeks.
I even change the stock rom, from the UK 4.4.2 to Italy 4.4.2, with no improvement.
The only way is to wait an official update (if Sasmung will update again this phone), or try a Lollipop or 4.4.4 custom rom.
I could say that rooting the phone by Towel Root (knox 0x0 flashing before the old kernel) and using:
- Coolify (with this app running in background in 3 days the phone stay under the 45° celsius)
- App Opp Xposed (deny the access to position to any app and put "Kepp Away" off for a lot of app)
- GserviceFix
- DisableService (to stop some process, like the wereable process on Google Play Service)
And freezing all the useless software pre-installed, i get some little, but important, improvement
At this time I have 50% of battery with around 3 hours from the unplugged and with around an hour to use with display on in gsm mode (no wifi). Before KitKat updated this wasn't good, but if i hadn't root now i would have 35 or less percent

I would be better off with a custom ROM than Offcial Samsung Stock ROM. 4hrs of SOT (without WiFi) just with light browsing, gaming and some video watching
I do understand you guys don't wanna void warranty but I guess its better than buying batteries every month
Anyways, i guess some improvement for this is simply to wait for Samsung's update OR try out greenify. I believe Greenify can hibernate apps that causes the most overheating

For what it's worth I had similar over heating on my i9300 and my current phone i9195. I believe it mostly stems from the screen. The screen in a phone and laptop will be the biggest drain on power, by far, second to none.
Unfortunately, once a battery has experienced regular rapid battery loss from the screen being on too bright and too often, the battery becomes pretty poor at holding charge. And one of those screenshots shows the screen zapping the most... Remember, even if its on charge it's still hitting your battery for power. Now I never let the screen above 45-50% brightness.
If you're running stock and have power saver activated then turn the screen down, and remove as many unnecessary apps as possible. If you're rooted then there's plenty more you can do and my favourites are Droidwall to prevent apps from using your mobile connection and a custom kernel with app to under volt the cpu and gpu, but there's a lot more you might be able to do...

I put the S5 Proyect rom with Brisk Kernel and the problem persist.
It's not possibile was an hardware problem, because in Jeally Bean was everything fine.
But now it's really strange, sometimes the battery drain a lot, but yesterday night with the 10% i use it a lot to whatsapp before to see it shut down automatically. I don't kwow what to do
A battery isn't considered hardware by most as its a consumable; its not expected to last the lifetime of the phone.
Just because it was fine on JB you can't discount the battery cells failing. I assume you went from JB to KK, and not downgrade? If so i believe the screen zapping the battery too much causing the battery to begin failing holds true...ie, 6 months ago it was fine on JB but now its bad. Between then and now the battery has been hammered.
Hi there, I got an S6 edge a couple of months ago, and it has been great up until a couple days ago. A few days ago, I decided to root my phone, and since then, it has been getting far hotter than I would expect, and the battery dies very, very quickly. (I unplugged it 6 minutes ago, and I'm at 90 percent battery...) I'm lost as to what might be causing this. Does anyone have any ideas for how I can fix it? (Like kernel and ROM combos or something, or an app, etc.) I'm out of ideas... Oh, also, the phone currently has fewer apps on it than it did when the battery was running fine, and they are all apps that were on the phone before (aside from SuperSu).
I have same issue and I'm not even rooted yet. Also lagging a lot. Was thinking about root and flash custom rom, but there's not much here.....
Great battery life is achievable with this S6e by simply disabling all the junk apps especially the Samsung stuff including themes.
As you can see predicted battery life at the beginning of the day is ridiculous, with average use a day plus is a walk in the park.
With heavy use 12 to 18 hrs is not a problem.
Deep sleep is a key for extended battery life since phone is charged before I go to bed, I don't leave phone plugged in overnight so battery doesn't overcharge.
At last count I had 24 disabled apps, running stock, no root with ota updates.
So if root doesn't do it for you, then consider returning to stock.
This is my first Samsung device that was not rooted as soon as it was unboxed, and mainly because of all the issues with these new generation bootloaders and kernels.
There isn't much going on with the S6e as far as development is concerned so not a whole lot is been given up by not rooting.
Will root as soon as it becomes safe to run a stock kernel and recovery without tripping Knox.

Now I'm running the alliance control framework, with XtreStock for the ROM. My phone no longer overheats, but I'm at a predicted 9 hour battery life at the moment, with 91% left. How on earth are you getting multiple days out of it?!
I think the battery develops a memory pertaining to the usage /charge cycle, I never top off the battery when it's getting low, always wait for it to ask to connect the charger (usually around 10% or less before I charge it fully.
And as soon as it's charged I unplug it.
Mind you I do not run battery saver mode, use to use it with my S4 if I was out all day away from a power source, but on average I would get good battery life on my S4, but this phone is super light on battery usage.
All the app disabling was done with the stock app manager option to disable any app that had the option to "disable".
But before disabling you want to clear cashe and clear data on app to be disabled.
Not bad for a stock non rooted phone.
At the moment not missing root.
Below is my usage for today.

This fixed my phone, if it helps you say thanks.
Download Debloater http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/debloater-remove-carrier-bloat-t2998294
install and run
disable "com.tmobile.pr.adapt"
that's it, my battery is great now and no lag

So. You charge before you sleep and unplug. That is not a realistic way for anyone to gauge battery usage. No texts coming in, no calls, very little emails, etc.. How much screen on time is there on that screenshot? I have disabled literally all non essential apps and my battery is still terrible. I have to charge at least twice a day, sometimes three times.
---------- Post added at 11:31 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:20 PM ----------
I left wifi off all day minus the last hour or so. This is the result.

I had to charge in the middle of the fay as you can see. This is usually what my battery looks like with wifi on.

Both of these days had 1.5 hours screen on time.

Who is this directed at?
Title. H810 no root.
I'm aware the battery life on this one is not really good. That in mind.
-Example, (nothing running on background, everything but wifi off) using it normally until 14%. Pushed sleep button.
-Turn screen on like 5 mins after and it was 15%, used it a bit then again screen off.
-Turned screen on about 6 minutes later and it was 5%.
-Drained it to supposedly 1% then phone turned itself off.
-Turned phone on again and it was 2% and stayed like that for 10 mins while scrolling twitter with 30% brightness, until it turned itself off again and this time battery is to low to turn on.
Tried factory reset, draining till absolute 0% then 100% multiple times but so far nothing works.
Battery's health is good and factory original, no water, no heavy drops.
Let's say i root it (as far as i know its possible in all models), question:
Is there a way to push battery stats to make battery readings accurate?
Or what do you suggest? thanks.

Hi,
What you have is normal.
My owen device jumps frpn 12% to 15% after heavy and log use, thats normal, cause battery is cooling down/pre-ucomputed Energy is not consumed and Battery is calculated new.
The other Jump from 15 to 5 thats somthing you should watch closer. did that happen often?
all in all I have a sugestion but answer this first.
How old is Battery and usage time? (heavy or Soft? SOT? and so one)
Battery readings denpend on the Kernel. You are Stock i think?
Titan Kernel gave me awesome Display Sdreen on Times but battery is jumping too.

Thanks for replying!
Well thats one solved, it wasnt a sudden jump but rather a few minutes discharge doing nothing at all.
Battery is as old as the phone, 2015 and usage, i dont know for sure since it's an import US carrier phone sold to me locally, seems like it was a test phone like the ones you can try at stores. I would say battery use isnt any different than it would be in a daily usage and even if not, would be very rare for a li-ion battery to degrade in such a small amount of time. Gonna ask the seller.
Another thing i notice is very fast battery drain while playing music. I listen to music from home to work, like a 1 hour trip and when i got of home with 81% when i get to my job im at 68%.
And yeah stock everything with android 6.0, as i said currently not even rooted.

Sounds as if the Battery has some Altered Issues. How Often do you charge?
with Music You meen Mp3 or stream? (stream drain battery much faster)
Try custom Rom and titan kernel if u dont need stock services, otherwise rootand use greenify or other.
on Stock i Had SoT of 2 hours max. now i am back to 3 Hoeurs (i´m heavy user some days...)

Already using greenify. Charging 2 times a day, 1 before going to work, 1 when i come back, plugged while using it.
MP3 from stock music app, since i read somewhere a 3rd party music app caused an user a battery drain-
H810 has locked bootloader, do you know any flash tool?

Greenify is much better with Root
first you must unlock your Bootloader.
there are 2 Otions at the moment. Official (don´t know if possible for H810) and USU by @steadfasterX
for second:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/general/unlock-unlock-lg-g4-device-usu-t3760451
read and choose for yourself if that is what you want
Just by a new battery. Original battery can be found for about 8$ at least here in Sweden..
I believe this is normal.
My H815 had it with both the original and a new battery. It used to be really bad when you charged it to 100%, restarted and it would drop immediately to 80%.
Also, especially on stock LG stuff (the graph on custom ROMs seems to be smoothed out), the battery graph was a mess of random spikes and dips
