I was able to read and copy from pen drive using nexus 5 android 6 (not rooted and no 3rd app used ). but i was not able to write on pen drive even using ES file manager . Is it possible to write on pen drive using nexus 5 (not rooted, android 6.0)
Sorry i didn't tried , i have root and custom rom on my device
Use StickMount
I myself am running 6.0 no root too.
I use ES as well to copy files from a USB to my N5.
The Android OS actually has been added USB mounting support in 6.0.
Resurrection Remix 6.0.1 and OTG works fine for both read and write. I'm rooted and using StickMount though.

dear paranoid android users and developers,
I've made a fresh (and clean) install of newest BETA 4 on my Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 2013 (Wi-Fi) and encountered a small problem... I cannot seem to get StickMount to work... none of my pendrives that worked on previous versions (the ones before SuperSU was switched to Superuser) seem to show up in any file explorers...
also, when I ran the USB Host Diagnostics, I got a result in the Root API section: N/A... therefore, I'm thinking something is not right on the Superuser side...
I would be oh so thankful if someone could help with coming up with a solution! :fingers-crossed:
P.S. I'm posting a screenshot of the USB Host Diagnostics as attachment. the same result shows up on Nexus 5.
try USB OTG Helper
I don't know if it will work but its what I used when I was on a different ROM, I'll check later and see if it still works.
hmm, will look into it and see if anything changes...

I just tested it. OTG works Perfectly on PA beta 4. If you are using an external HDD make sure its getting powered.

On which device did You manage to do it? And with help of 3rd party apps, or just with the system in its own?
Also... Stock kernel or custom one?
Cheers!
Htc one x. Custom kernel but the kernel doesn't do anything for otg. And only used USB OtG Helper. Just plug the OTG cable and the USB device in and then open otg helper then plug the otg cable into the phone and wait a few seconds and then mount.
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
on GNexus, with PA Beta4, stock kernel: it works from the start, without 3-party apps.
the only thing it doesn't work is when I unmount (from "settings>storage": is there any other way to do it?) it keeps a permanent notification saying "Removed USB storage. Insert new media" that won't go away. Eventually it does, don't know how, why and when.
cheers
Nexus 5, PA Beta 4, stock kernel.
OTG works flawlessy, from the settings I can mount and unmount it.
I just received my Corsair Flash Voyager Pro & I can't seem to locate the files that I've put on it. The Tablet Doesn't Automatically open w/ file Manager & I also can't seem to fine google's file manager . The Drive is in exFAT if that matters.

Do you happen to know if the Drive "HAVE TO" be in FAT32 Format?

Some custom kernels support NTFS and EXFAT. But stock doesn't give you much option
If you're rooted try the app stick mount from the play store, that should work
If you're not rooted, try Nexus Media Importer (also from the Play Store).
I was expecting more of a Plug & Play Like what was shown 2:35
Stock / unrooted 5.02 and I use ES File Manager to access drives over USB OTG. This only started working (AFAIK) with the Lollipop release.
It's limited in functionality, and I usually end up copying files locally before using them, but it suits my needs and works without rooting.
I used to use StickMount, but it requires root. And I'm lazy.
hi , i got a galaxy s4 gt-i9515 4.4.2 (build ver. that ends with NK2)
i rooted it using this guide: " can't post the link since new user but is by mrwolf s4 towelroot etc.. ", with the right NK2 kernel file.
i checked with root checker and it says root is ok, and using the paragon ntfs app i see in settings that SELinux is on permissive.
My problem is that i can't figure out a way to read ntfs devices with s4; the only way i can read them is using Total Commander + Paragon Total Commander plugin but i don't like the Tot. Com. interface plus i need to download the file form the drive to see them.
Using Paragon ntfs app when i mount the drive (WD 1tb or any ntfs pendrive.. tried both) the warnign on top "blank disk etc. " remain and i can't find the files anywhere in the phone i tried using defalut viewer and File Manager with root access on it, i looked everywhere in any folder , i tried using different apps too like USB OTG helper but it says code 9 error and in the folder that it should be mounting the drive i can't see anything.. is empty.
Did i really root my phone?i see the knox counter is 0x0.
Plus i notice that in sdcard there are folders named paragonntfs_1 2 3... etc i can't even delete them .. i finally did delete the paragonntfs_4 fodler but the others says write protected
Can you help me?

In your file manager. Go to system then storage. You can find your flash drive there. Or use Solid Explorer which shows the flash drive but you have to give permission the first time.
I tried that too. It does show up in Settings>Storage. It doesn't show up in any file manager.

Use solid explorer. It will allow you to see it
Sent from my LG-H815 using XDA Free mobile app
As said Solid Explorer works just fine indeed :good:
on stock rooted canadian variant, showes up perfectly fine. maybe its the rom
I've tried that too. Still no joy. Could be the rom.
Hi
The OTG functionality was working fine until the upgrade to 6.0.
After upgrade stopped working. No able to connect keyboard/mouse or SD/USB via OTG.
I have openned a ticket to LG support and still waiting for feedback.
Regards
I had nothing but good come from otg keyboards ps3 control harddrives with ext power. Everything even a old logitech microsoft flight sim joystick. On mm u do have to grant perms. Lollipop also try shutting of usb debugging sometime that interferes
Hey guys, I've got my 5x running a custom Oreo ROM. Ever since the Oreo upgrade, I can't access music files with Poweramp on my USB C to 3.0 otg.
I used to use USB stickmount app and it worked fine on Nougat but doesn't work anymore. I can see the drive using a file explorer and it evenregsiters as storage under system on my 5x. Any ideas or suggestions? I don't wanna select one file at a time as it's a p.i.t.a...
Resolved by using Poweramp beta and SuperSU. One or the there (haven't verified)allows access to my mini USB key via rooot access.
