Essentially what the one click does is root your phone, install busybox, and copy z4root and superuser to /system/app. z4root is included for easy unroot if you ever need to unroot and run the script again.

It's just a tool, that developers use basically. It's nice to have installed on your phone for future use.
I can't get busybox to install from the Market app.... any chance of a one-click for us linux people?

I got it with titanium backup

You need to unlock from htcdev first then use weaksauce.

Weak sauce is for temp root with out unlocking or flashing super su binaries. I didn't want to unlock and only s-off but now i'm unable to. You dont need htcdev for weak sauce but it only works on the Verizon m8.

Correct. Here is exactly what I did in order. Unlocked the bootloader first via HTC Dev. Installed custom recovery and perm root via the HTC Toolkit. Then followed instructions on the Firewater link. Have S-Off, TWRP and Root now.

Did you lose the preload apps from /data/preload ?
I want to get a backup of those before I HTC Dev unlock if possible. I'm looking at the libs in system to see if I can find another one that would work for weaksauce. (I.E. it is just renamed and has the same exports)

If it's empty you lost them. I don't know their names, because without root, I can't get a directory listing.

Can't find anything that has an export for: "CopyFileCtl" which means no weaksauce on this phone. It looks like HTC Dev Unlock works fine, and so does the firewater s-off but you can't do it without flashing a recovery yet.

Can you confirm if /data/preload is empty after the htc unlock?
Barking up the wrong tree with the library. The same vulnerability exists (from what I have seen) but needs to be exploited in a different route than how the current version of weaksauce is doing it. I didn't build it for compatibility, i built it for easy of testing, as I do not have the device myself.
Dump system, upload it somewhere for me, no promises as I normally don't like to do roots for unlockable phones, but I am interested in finishing the exploit (the one I released is not "finished", as I didn't have the device when I wrote it, just the firmware).

Root without computer?

Hi,
I gonna receive my new g3 on holidays, and i wanted to know if there is a way to root it without a computer. What do you think?

It's an exploit. Exploits trigger virus definitions and scanners. To be clear, there is no virus or virii in towelroot.
The only issue people may find with it, is that it doesn't root certain firmware versions or models now.

I haven't seen this happen to anyone else, is there accrual proof that rooting caused the damage? That isn't relevant to the OP, how we I have 2 rooted G3's currently one that's been rooted since launch and Ive had zero issues.

Ridiculous comment. Rooting has nothing to do with a perceived motherboard issue.

Looking for newest OTA file. Being on straight talk I can't do OTA updates and I don't have access to a computer so am asking if anyone can put the file on android file host.
Thanks.
Install smart switch on your computer and you can update that way. I'm in the same boat.

Cool. Thanks. Not exactly what I was looking for though. Those are files for unlocked and rooted phones. I have a complete stock phone as I have no computer to unlock it. So the OTA file is my only option to aply updates.

Yeah it sucks with no computer and I live out in the middle of no where on the side of a mountain so most of my friends don't visit during the winter. Hopefully one day I will have access to a PC and unlock and root this sucker. A few ROMs I want to try besides I miss the fun of my unlocked Note 3 which the wife has.

Look in the S8 plus forum for ROMs for the Partcyborg ROM. You should be able to flash that because it is a bootloader version 2 ROM.

From what i understand to get back to stock we have to do a full wipe factory reset. Then use the right firmware and do odin flash(not princecomsey version).
