M8 not responding. - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a problem that sometimes my Htc One M8 will just "crash" in my pocket. When I take it out it just has a black screen and wont turn on the screen. I can use swipe to wake and get the haptic feedback but screen won't turn on. This mostly happens when it is connected to my cars bluetooth. I notice it when I try to change song and it wont change it. The music playback works tho even if the screen wont go on.
Happens both on Sense and Gpe. Changing kernels wont help. Same with stock and elementalx. Also had this on my two M8 phones and my friend with M8 told me about a similar problem.
Also sometimes when I get a call, I can see the answer and decline buttons, but cant pull them up or see who is calling. It will just ring until it stops and then starts responding.
Has anyone had anything similar? Any fix for it?
Thanks in advance! :good:

Flashing Screen On/Off During Phonecall

Hey,
Theres a thread about this, but I cant find it, even searched for it, so here it comes again:
When I make a phone call, the screen flashes on and off (lights on the keys aswell go on and off) - This is annoying because the screen doesnt respond when its off, and just flashes on and off until your about half a minute into the call.
This means touchtone services and ending short calls may be a pain sometimes.
Any solution?
Thanks
The screen will go black when up against you and then back to normal when moved away, it has a light sensorbuilt in.

[Q] In call mute

When im in a call my cheek makes the phone mute or speakerphone turn on it has even made it to airplane mode once. This has not happened to me on any other phone could this be the sensor. Has anyone else had this problem at all its very frustrating. The screen is always black like it is suppose to be during a call but buttons are still being pressed. Is there anything I could do?

Are you stock?
yes I am still currently stock did the s-off from rumrunner that is it no custom roms
Hmm... I know it sucks but maybe try a factory reset just to make sure it's not software and if it still doesn't work it might be a defective sensor.
definitly worth a shot thanks
I've never hit the mute button specifically, BUT, I have dropped calls due to accidentally putting my phone in airplane mode with my cheek more times than I can remember. This happened a lot on stock. I'm on CM now and I think it has probably happened a few times, but not as much as stock - this could just be coincidence though.
Sent from my One using xda app-developers app
I'm was doing the same, but with turning on Speakerphone. You can try this sensor recalibration app and get it set to your liking.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.incredicontrol.ProxSensorCalibrator
EDIT: Thought I should give my current settings:
PS1_CANC: 9
PS2_CANC: 19
This turns the screen off from pretty far away, but eliminated the problem for me entirely.

HOX switching to airplane mode

Hello,
my GF's phone keeps switching to airplane mode when she answers calls. She can talk for 5-25 second and then the phone switches to airplane mode. I allready checked if the sensor that turns the screen of isnt working, but that is not the problem. If i hide the sensor with my finger the screen turns off.
And she cant listen to voice messages through the speaker, in the moment she takes the phone to her ear, the messages stop.
Looks for me like an error with the sensor but as i said, when i hide it with my finger the screen turns off.
Its on Android 4.2.2 and not rooted or has any custom rom.
Maybee anybody had the same issue or an idea what could be the reason.
I thought about installing Viper one but i am not sure if this could fix a sensor error or if it would be the best solution to send it to htc.

[Q] Black Screen After Call

This is really annoying. After calling, screen goes black and won't turn on. The only way i found is to charge the phone only a second. I used a lot of roms, but the problem is catching me everytime. Can anyone help me?

Head unit instead of a torch(aka. no screen timeout)

Maybe it's just me, but I couldn't figure out how to set a screen timeout. I saw threads about screensaver, etc. but never came across a post about telling how to make the HU turn off the screen automatically and stay like that. There is a legend about Android being configurable, but this is killing it for me.
I know there is several ways to do it manually like long pressing the Mute(thx to Wolf Hamburg) or trying to locate the incredible small on screen button, which I find even more stupid and dangerous than texting in the car. But besides it's far from being comfotable, there are a few more issues which I should face when the screen is off. First it will turn back on seemingly random. It will turn back on if I change the volume, not like on my phone. To avoid this I tried to activate the speed dependent volume control, at most it could have been a workaround, but it was malfunctioning as well...(after 5 sec you switched off the screen it will set the safe volume, then turn back on the screen, if you retry it might work for some time after the second try).
What I'm looking for is a very basic functionality which works with every android phone I know: set a screen timeout (15-30 sec) and being able to change the volume without lighting up the display.
I would be really thankful for a solution!
p.s.: I already tried to switch off the stay always on in the debugger menu, without any effect :\
That bothers me too, specially screen coming back on volume change.
Hope someone develop a solution.

This isnt normal Android, its been modified to work with car head unit components in a car stereo and the Chinese devs have, annoyingly, done it so that ANY screen press, even volume changes, turns on the screen. Theoretically it shouldnt be too hard to change, just a case of searching for the code and of course there will also be some sort of interaction with the MCU. You could try looking in the build prop if your unit is rooted.
If you have a Klyde unit with hard buttons, holding down mute will turn the screen off, this may work on others too.

Today; Is there any solution for this to turn off the screen automatically? I'm looking at lots of posts without finding anything. I hope someone can help me. I have Android 6.0.1 Mashmallow.
I use this app, activated by my SWC. Only minor issue is that you have to tap screen to turn on. Screen stays off during volume changes.
