Hey,
Theres a thread about this, but I cant find it, even searched for it, so here it comes again:
When I make a phone call, the screen flashes on and off (lights on the keys aswell go on and off) - This is annoying because the screen doesnt respond when its off, and just flashes on and off until your about half a minute into the call.
This means touchtone services and ending short calls may be a pain sometimes.
Any solution?
Thanks
The screen will go black when up against you and then back to normal when moved away, it has a light sensorbuilt in.

my phone locks up every time i dial a phone number. the screen gets locked up (black screen) and even if i press the home button or the sleep button, it won't come back on. the only way it would comeback on is if the other person hangs up the phone. for example, i call 611, now as soon as i dial that number, the screen goes BLACK. nothing shows up on screen. only choice i have is to WAIT for the other person to hang up for my screen to light back on again. i can't hang up because the screen won't come back on until the other person hangs up. if i press power button, nothing happens. something if i press the home button. what is wrong with this phone?
btw, it is running lean rom. i previously had another rom (samething happened on it tahts why i'm on lean rom, and same issue).
i'm currently downloading the stock tmobile rom, lets see if this issue is resolved. if any of you have faced this issue please comment. thanks.
also, when flashing the roms, i always follow the correct procedure (recovery > wipe data > wipe cache > wipe delvic > install from zip. )

I'm having the exact same issue, when I make a call the screen guess into sleep that can't be awaken unless whoever I was talking to hangs up. the only exception is when I'm in speaker mode but I would have to be quick before the screen guess black. I'm running ogwisdom's paranoid android and I flashed from stock Rom. any help would be greatly appreciated.
Sounds like your guys' proximity sensor isnt functioning properly.... it controls the screen dimming during calls by detecting our face. If it's not detecting your face properly, then when it thinks you have put the phone down (always) it will dim the screen and keep it that way until the call is completed like you described...
This happens often to some of us who have screen protector covering the sensor.
If the sensor is actually broken obviously you will have to replace it, but more likely its just being blocked by your screen protector or fingerprints?
You can just disable the proximity sensor like many people do. It's really not necessary anyway imo..
To diable it go to the "phone app" where your dialer is just bring up the menu, go to settings and uncheck the box that says "detect your face during calls and dim screen". Then you can just use your power button to bring the screen on and off during calls. Proximity sensor kinda worthless anyway...as far as I know.
Anyone know what use the sensor has other than screen dimming during calls? Theoretically I think it controls dimming at all times, but by default the dim kicks in after what 30 seconds(?) and who looks at their phone for 30 seconds without touching the screen unless a movie is playing (in which case auto dim is disabled!). So thats why I kinda think the sensor is useless...unless its doing something I dont know.

You can replace the sensor if its broken cheaply,
You can remove whatever item is blocking the sensor if its being block
Or you can just disable the sensor like many people do. It's really not necessary.

Apologies if this has been addressed before, but I searched and couldn't find something exactly like this...
Randomly one of 3 screen issues seems to be occuring on a daily basis:
1) Auto-Rotate stops working. Cannot get screen to rotate without reset (Yes, I've made sure auto-rotate is on in settings)
2) Screen will not Auto-Off. Even if I change settings to 15 secs, screen will not turn itself off. I have to manually turn it off. And, if I receive a text or any kind of notification it will light up again and stay on indefinitely.
3) Screen will not turn back on when trying to wake up device. Hitting the home button and power button both have no effect. Although the LED is usually blinking, and it seems the phone is still on.
For all 3 of the above issues, manually pulling out the battery and reseting the phone that way seems to always work. But, this is an annoying process to have to go through on a daily basis.
Also, I've noticed that these 3 symptoms don't occur simultaneously. For example, yesterday it wouldn't auto-off, but rotation would still work.
Not running any custom ROMs either
Hi,
My phone's display goes completely white when I wake it up after being dormant. This started happening after I had the screen replaced and a full reset was done, but I am not certain if it is a software issue or a hardware issue.
The behaviour of the phone is as follows:
- Power ON: The phone powers up fine and boots up fine (display works as normal), and I can use the phone (call, text, play games, etc...)
- Now, when I let the phone go to sleep and then I wake it up, the screen goes from being completely off to being completely white. Kinda like one of those "flashlight apps" that don't use the flash...
- Same happens if I let the device go to sleep and a call comes in. In that case, the device wakes up as it rings, but the screen is completely white. If you know where the button to answer the call would be, you can actually answer the call though... So the screen is responsive, it just isnt displaying anything
So, I am looking to see if anyone has seen this in the past and what the cause may be. This happens with either the HTC ROM or Android.
FYI, the shop that did the screen replacement is not taking responsibility, so yes that sucks, etc... etc... No point discussing that.
Maybe it's just me, but I couldn't figure out how to set a screen timeout. I saw threads about screensaver, etc. but never came across a post about telling how to make the HU turn off the screen automatically and stay like that. There is a legend about Android being configurable, but this is killing it for me.
I know there is several ways to do it manually like long pressing the Mute(thx to Wolf Hamburg) or trying to locate the incredible small on screen button, which I find even more stupid and dangerous than texting in the car. But besides it's far from being comfotable, there are a few more issues which I should face when the screen is off. First it will turn back on seemingly random. It will turn back on if I change the volume, not like on my phone. To avoid this I tried to activate the speed dependent volume control, at most it could have been a workaround, but it was malfunctioning as well...(after 5 sec you switched off the screen it will set the safe volume, then turn back on the screen, if you retry it might work for some time after the second try).
What I'm looking for is a very basic functionality which works with every android phone I know: set a screen timeout (15-30 sec) and being able to change the volume without lighting up the display.
I would be really thankful for a solution!
p.s.: I already tried to switch off the stay always on in the debugger menu, without any effect :\
That bothers me too, specially screen coming back on volume change.
Hope someone develop a solution.

This isnt normal Android, its been modified to work with car head unit components in a car stereo and the Chinese devs have, annoyingly, done it so that ANY screen press, even volume changes, turns on the screen. Theoretically it shouldnt be too hard to change, just a case of searching for the code and of course there will also be some sort of interaction with the MCU. You could try looking in the build prop if your unit is rooted.
If you have a Klyde unit with hard buttons, holding down mute will turn the screen off, this may work on others too.

Today; Is there any solution for this to turn off the screen automatically? I'm looking at lots of posts without finding anything. I hope someone can help me. I have Android 6.0.1 Mashmallow.
I use this app, activated by my SWC. Only minor issue is that you have to tap screen to turn on. Screen stays off during volume changes.

It is strange, but whenever I call with somebody, the screen just won't turn off when I put the phone to my ear. It turns off after few minutes because of the screen timeout, but sometimes I press stuff with my cheek.
Both G-sensor and light sensor work. Is it a common problem? This never happened with my previous HTCs :/

I think I know your problem friend. Last I heard of this issue it was with a droid turbo. He was a hardcore conspiracy guy. So he had all the sensors n $hit covered. I'm not sure how long he had them covered. But after awhile his phone screen wouldn't turn off during calls. Once the tape was removed it worked. If that doesn't work. If your running a custom or stock based rom with tweaks just wipe the system and caches. And reflash the rom it will of course take its usual 10-15 boot up time because of the cache wipe. If you don't use custom stuff. Make sure you have your stuff backed up to google, and refer to a slightly up to date ruu thread to wipe and reset your phone.
