I really really start to like the P8000. It may not have gazillions of gadgets features but it does all the important stuff well enough and long enough (due to the splendid battery). Taking into account the price, I like it even better than my Nexus 5. Because this phone is such a bargain, I hope that it will get the developer support it deserves.
This is my wish list.
Priority no. 1: Encryption support (unfortunately, this feature is missing from the stock ROM)
Priority no. 2: Custom kernel (this would probably allow us to overclock, use USB OTG, install TWRP etc.)
Priority no. 3: Custom ROM with smart network support (xposed + Gravity Box or Smart Network does not work on my P8000)
Priority no. 4: Support of Android API for RAW pictures
Feel free to add your wishes. Maybe a talented developer will take care of us

When you say "Smart Network Support" in Priority 3, you mean the Smart Network Switch that turns of Mobile Data connection etc. when screen is off, yeah?
Try CPU Tuner and you can create profiles that trigger on different events like screen off. You can then choose to disable data connection, WiFi or whatever in that profile. You need to use it in Advanced Mode for full features I think.

I tried 3C Toolbox (seems to include CPU Tuner/System Tuner) and used a profile that switches off 4G when the screen is off. Anyway, it did not work...
working Bluetooth Music Stream without Skipping and Stopping
For some reason, I am still on the July Stock ROM, and no updates to me whatsoever.
What I wish right now is:
- Better power management (for some reason, "Phone Idle" is always the top power consumer);
- Double tap to wake;
- Fix bluetooth issues (music skipping, gibberish play);
- Third party camera support;
- Possibility to overclock it;
- Fix small GPS hiccups;
And of course, Android Marshmallow update.

If you update to the latest stock ROM or use Eragon custom ROM, you will be able to use third party cameras. I tested this myself.

Get the most out of the T989 T-Mobile Stock ICS/Unrooted without rooting
I thought this should be a separate thread as this should serve as a good way to fix a good number of issues as well as improve your overall device function quality, as well as having all of this in one post.
(Note: I know not many of us use stock unrooted, my personal T989 stays stock unrooted, my dev T989 is currently in the Dark . This thread is intended soley for those of you that do not wish to void your warranty).
Problems After Upgrade from GB > ICS
If you have issues after upgrading from stock/unrooted GB to stock/unrooted ICS, A factory reset is confirmed to fix these issues (tested by me because I had them):
- Near zero stutter/stagger now
- Huge improvement on battery life (using the same battery saving techniques, settings, and apps).
- Mobile Life contacts no longer hangs after reboot
- Task killer now appropriately determines which apps shouldn't be in the kill all list (Apex, Nova, Juice Defender, Avast!, Lookout, Badass Battery Monitor, etc).
- Voicemail working properly now (icon wouldn't show before no matter what I did).
- Apps no longer hanging and freezing entire device for 20-30 seconds.
- Wifi Calling now working
- Facebook For Android app no longer sets itself to sync all my contacts regardless how I had the option set.
- Wifi stabilized. No disconnects in an hour and a half.
- UI artifacting no longer showing when switching between apps.
- Swype no longer stutters and freezes.
My advice with stock unrooted ICS, if you upgrade from GB and have issues, go ahead and factory reset. Worth it.
Screenshot
You can take a screenshot of your T989's screen by pressing Home softkey+power button at the same time and holding for about a second.
Keep From Being Monitored
If you scan the T989 on stock unrooted ICS, yes, it does in fact have CarrierIQ installed. However, you don't need to worry about this because you can disable it. If you don't know what CarrierIQ is, it's a company all of the major carriers went through to anonymously collect diagnostic data from our devices. They call it "data needed for device diagnostics and troubleshooting". The problem, which is pretty much why they got/are getting sued, is that it collects well... pretty much anything it can get it's hands on. I compare it to killing a quota of 3200 whales per year for "tissue samples". It's completely unnecessary. Don't trust it or the reasoning behind it.
To disable this, go to Settings > Back up and Reset. Click Collect diagnostics. Uncheck the box. Save and close. You will now no longer send, or even agree to send, T-Mobile any "diagnostic" data.
Apps OK To Disable
In ICS you can disable nearly any unnecessary application or service permanently. This will hide it from the app drawer, keep the app/service stopped, and disable it from being checked for update via Google Play. Disabling bloatware apps and unneeded apps will save you RAM, Data, a tiny bit of battery, and a lot of headache.
To disable an app simply go to Settings, go to Applications, and go to the All tab. Click the app. Click Disable. (Some items listed below may have an Uninstall Updates option instead of Disable. Simply uninstall the updates, go back into the item, and click Disable.
Here is a list of apps/services that are OK to disable (tested by me).
Note: This is just a list deemed safe. You do not need to disable every single item listed. Disabling these makes them functionless. Please do so only if you do not/do not intend to ever use them.

Battery Savings
Note: Everyone's device use is different and these items are based on my own personal testing on the T989 based on my use (which I can assure you is pretty heavy as I have kids and basically use my T989 to do all the things I don't have time to sit at a computer and do).
Also please note: With these settings and apps, you are not going to notice an instant increase in battery life, however if you use Badass Battery Monitor [Play Link] you will be able to see the improvements on the bottom right (Average Battery Life time).
1.) General good battery saving advice
Note: These are just general advice, if you use these features constantly, you don't have to disable them, and besides the screen brightness and GPS, the amount of battery life you will save by disabling most of these is very small, but this list is intended for maximum power savings, not superuse.
- Disable GPS unless you are using it
- Keep screen just bright enough for you to see clearly (Settings > Display > Screen Brightness) unless you are editing something
- Stick to either Mobile Data, or Wifi. Never leave both on at the same time. When you're using Wifi, only enable Mobile Data when you are sending an MMS (SMS's still work on Wifi only)
- Disable Wifi Calling unless you need to use it
- Disable Bluetooth unless you are using it
- Disable Motion Controls (Settings > Motion) unless you need them. (Note: The Gryoscope and Accelerometer will always remain on).
- Disable Animations - Disable both animation options (Settings > Developer options) - This will improve the speed at which you can do things, as well as improve battery life.
- Disable unneeded syncing - Settings > Accounts & Sync - Disable all items that you do not need to have sync'd 24/7, if you can change the sync interval set once every hour, two hours, or once per day depending on the item and how important it is for you)
- Disable or decrease App notification settings. Unless necessary, disable automatic update notifications on your applications individually. Keeping automatic updates enabled keeps a service for that app running in the background 24/7.
- Limit background process count. Set the maximum number of background processes to 4 or lower (Settings > Developer options > Limit background processes. This will allow only 4 or less apps to be running at once. Note that this will pretty much destroy your multitasking capabilities, but if you're a lower needs user, this can increase both battery and performance.
2.) Battery Saving Apps
The following are apps I use (all installed together) to make the most out of my battery on the T989. They have improved my battery life so much I can't begin to describe to you what I would do without them. All of these apps are free of charge, some features disabled:
- Apex Launcher [Play Link]. I am probably going to catch a lot of flack for this one. First and foremost, the default TouchWiz homescreen is a battery hungry and nearly useless piece of crap (the first part of that is fact, the latter observation is of course my opinion). There are two really good ICS-only homescreen replacements. The first is Nova Launcher, the second is Apex Launcher. Both do about the same thing, each has their own feature sets, but more or less they are pretty much equals. Why do I list Apex Launcher instead of Nova? Well this is the Battery Saving section of this post, and well, Apex uses less battery over time. Use Badass Batter Monitor if you do not believe me. And no, I don't have a grudge against Nova. I actually like both equally but again, battery saving section.
- Power Controls [Play Link] is a widget that lets you quickly change items that can eat up your battery and it is much better and more configurable than the default T989 power widget. I highly suggest using it.
- 2x Battery Saver [Play Link] will turn off 3G/4G connectivity when your phone is idle (screen off or locked while you're not using it). This does not keep you from getting calls and texts, only data is disabled, not the entire radio. This will save you boatloads of battery as well as data since we're all on caps with T-Mobile) by killing data when you are not using your device.
- GO Power Master [Play Link] is an application that optimizes your device by using a variety of different things. The first is a widget that allows you to manually kill tasks and clear services and apps you are not using. I recommend doing this pretty much every time you go to lock your device as it will save you additional battery. The second is an option you have to manually enable that, like the app above, disables connectivity when the device is idle (locked/screen off) except this app only disables Wifi. The third and best feature is that based on a profile, Go Power Master can automatically disable features at certain battery percents as your phone battery gets lower and lower. All of these profiles are customizable.
- Alternatively, you can use Juice Defender [Play Link] which disables both Mobile Data and Wifi when your device is idle, however from my experience with it on the unrooted T989 it is very unstable as to when it decides to disable things. Sometimes it does nothing, other times it does. It just doesn't seem to work well with the unrooted T989 at least for me. This is one of those apps that really does need root permissions to function properly.
Increase Performance
These are things I do to increase performance of my T989. As above, note that everyone's use is different so these may or may not help you.
- Class 6+ MicroSD card. I can not express to you how much of a difference this makes in speed of saving pictures, opening the gallery, apps that read/write data from the SD card. I currently use a Class 10 16gb MicroSD card and before it, I used a 8gb Class 4. I was able to notice the difference almost instantly.
- Keep your device and SD card clean! Norton Utilities [Play Link] can remove unused .apk files from your SDcard, And SDMaid [Play Link] can clear duplicate and temporary files from your SD card. (Note: SDMaid advanced features require purchase of the full app)
- Disable Animations - Disable both animation options (Settings > Developer options) - This will improve the speed at which you can do things, as well as improve battery life. Note that your devices Gyroscope and Accellerometer will always remain active.
- Some users tell me forcing GPU Rendering (Settings > Developer options) can improve performance, however I have read that this will break some things like the Gallery displaying pictures incorrectly. The opinion is still out on this, so enable this only if you want to try it for yourself. Note: Apps that can take advantage of GPU Rendering already use GPU Rendering, this option checked or not. This option simply forces it on every app.
- Kill tasks before gaming or high performance app use. Use Go Power Master (listed above) or the built in Task Killer to clear apps and free RAM before you launch a high-performance app (i.e. Shadowrun or N.O.V.A. 3) to increase gaming/2D/3D performance.
- Set the maximum number of background processes to 4 or lower. (Settings > Developer options > Limit background processes). This will allow only 4 or less apps to be running at once. Note that this will pretty much destroy your multitasking capabilities, but if you're a lower needs user, this can increase both battery and performance.
Best Replacement Apps for T989 (in my opinion)
Note: List includes paid apps
- Music - Poweramp [Play Link] - The reasons you should use this instead of the default music player is a list longer than I have the will to type out, but include fixing your album art, equalizer, a great ICS theme (separate download), and lyric support. Try it for 30 days for free. You won't regret it.
- Home Screen/Launcher - Apex Launcher [Play Link] - A great ICS style launcher that has a great featureset and saves battery compared to stock TouchWiz.
- SMS/MMS/FB Chat/Chat - Go SMS Pro [Play Link] - Do I need to explain this one? It's free. It's awesome. Use it.
More items/help/tutorials will be added as I get time to add them.

factory resets keeps ICS right? it doesn't revert back to GB?
I think I may do this. I'm not experiencing anything major - just some slight lag here and there.
You keep ICS yes. Minor lag will happen though but if you think it's worth giving it a try...

Nice, A thread for stock unrooted users. I also decided to do a Factory Reset and haven't had major issues aside from a few apps lagging when I turned on the Force GPU Rendering.
Minor Issues/Annoyances:
Ringtone and notification volumes can't be linked. (Anyone got any suggestions?)
Loud chirp when starting and stopping video recording.
Wallpaper scrolling missing.
Light Swype Keyboard lag here and there.
06/15 - Updated OP.
HUGE list of things you can do to make the most out of your stock/unrooted T989.
Again this thread is for those that don't want to break their warranty, not for those that are looking to actually make the absolute most out of their T989 in which case you will actually need to root/rom.

I must chime in and say that I decided to do a factory reset and now the rom is way more responsive. Definitely smoother and havent had any lockups like i was having before... Yet

Yes, much easier this way, it also works with home/power, but much more of a pain to get it to work that way.
how does one go about doing a factory reset and/or wipe the phone completely? My phone has been buggy since day one, I think its time to wipe it clean and install from fresh.

You can do it either way. I prefer home+power but thats just because I have a really strong case and the volume rocker is hard to press.

Anyone know if it's possible to have the Ultra Power Saving mode of s5, in our s4mini.
Ultra power saving was presented as HW feature, so I guess it is not possible on our s4 minis.

Where did you get that information? It just a bunch of software implementation that forces touchwiz to be more battery friendly by disabling bunch of things (which is the reason what makes TW bloat and slow in the first place), more noticeably everything renders in greyscale which is taking advantage on how AMOLED works.

And that post just indicate what I said earlier - bunch of software implementation, like any other supposedly feature such as eye tracking that few people think it a 'hardware' feature.
Yes but the hardware implementation makes it impossible to port. We don't have the source code to implement anything ☺
It seems you are right, it is only SW. For example here is Ultra Power saving for Note3: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-3/themes-apps/xposed-s5-power-saving-mode-t2814113
However I still can't see why greyscale display would mean any power saving - you still need to turn on all R/G/B AMOLED sub-pixels to get white/grey. The only possible power save would be turning the GPU into "greyscale" which would mean that the GPU has to do less calculations. But then there is question if also our GPU supports such greyscale mode.

To render in gery scale, again, it software. The GPU will render whatever the software tell to. As to why it saves power - AMOLED as people know has a very low power consumption if the display area is black (or near black). To render stuff in grey scale will simply increase the chance of display more 'black or blackish' images, hence improve battery.
I'm no developer, but simply read as regarding what UPS does - and I see nothing that can't be done if software allows to. Which most custom ROMs or additional app can do. UPS in my opinion is try to let end-user has a taste of what custom ROM/root app can do by giving them a pre-defined set of environments. Eg. limite the number of software allows in background, throttle CPU/GPU speed (too many app can do this), etc and of course the grey-scale thing. Sure custom ROMs can't do that yet, but most custom ROM has option to turn the menu to holo black - which is achieving SOME power saving.
I'm not an expert of technologies but on this forum, you can find ports of UPSM for some of the S4 mini variants.
Thank to @ploiki, he succeeded in making a port for UPSM
Now, as far as I'm concerned, I'm waiting for the I9195 portage !

For all those using Redmi 1S, I'd like to share some 'tips' which I found out while tinkering here and there, which resulted in much better memory management. Now I never see that irritating "loading" screen:
1) First manage start up apps through Security > Permissions > Autostart. Only the much needed apps should be kept there.
2) Settings > Additional Settings > Battery
Power settings - Balanced
System animations - Hide
Manage apps' battery usage - Advanced
3) Activate Developer options by tapping MIUI Version info (under Settings > About Phone) continuously. Now go to Developer options (Settings > Additional Settings). Make following changes:
Window animation scale - .5x
Transition animation scale - .5x
Animator duration scale - .5x
Memory optimization - High (This will require a reboot)
You may completely turn off animation scales but I kept have kept them at .5x and it works good enough.
After you reboot, your free RAM should be at least 50MB more than what it used to be. My total free RAM was 400MB+ for the first time ever but it hovers around 300-340 MB now. And no more loading screen.
I tried this in two Redmi 1S, and it worked as expected. I hope it works for everyone.
My Redmi 1S is on 7.1.1.0 Global.
Good Luck.
PS: There are many more factors which affect the running of phone for eg I just have 2 apps in start up, and have greenified almost all apps except a couple, which even includes gmail, Google App, Whatsapp and many others which most of the people skip, so usage scenario might differ from person to person.

Thanks
Thank you for the tips bro :good:
I'll give my list of changes I do whenever I install a ROM
1. Disable auto sync
2. Disable auto rotation
3. Disable location
4. Disable ambient display
5. Disable sounds ( KB, ls, do and vibration etc)
6. Disable headsup set priority mode
7. Disable animation ( dev options )
8. Disable useless system apps or remove
9. Disable usage access to apps
10. Change app settings enable dark theme
These settings effect on both battery and memory , I get 5hrs sot and memory usage never over 70% my usage is low as our device have 1GB I use apps according it
Hey sorry for title
i want to know how to make my phone just work like Feature phone on one click.
And another click Phone like super beast mode without Any reboot...
My motive behind this Power And battery
Feature phone mean i get super dooper SOT
One click super dooper mode eh? Just download more ram and overcharge your phone during a full moon.
You need a kernel manager, like EX Kernel Manager, that can support at least two profiles. However, I don't think such an app will work on the fly - switching between profiles without a reboot. Another option is Spectrum, but the kernel has to support the injector script. There's a thread about Spectrum here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-spectrum-kernel-manager-users-t3601542. Good luck!
You could achieve some of this using Tasker (or similar) as you could address brightness / replication status / radios / Bluetooth / etc. Won't allow kernel changes (unless rooted and using a 3rd party tool) but for me, the majority of battery is spent on screen being on & background tasks.
Purpose
I have been jumping from one UI to gsi's to back to one UI. I just want to know what are yall experiences with different roms and maybe stock one UI and what mods/workarounds or apps do you use to solve problems. Any custom kernel etc. I'll start with mine here
My Current Configuration:
(i edit this op when i switch a gsi or attempt further mods)
OS: YAAP GSI
Device: SM-A325F
Firmware version: A325FXXS4DWD4
Rooted with KernelSU.
Using OrangeFox from here.
Mods:
1. Custom kernel:
I made my own permissive custom kernel from A325FXXS3CWB3 Samsung's source from here.
It has a lot of changes which include removing entire security and knox debloat as it is not used in GSI.
It also has changed default ram compressor to lz4 instead of lzo-rle which should be faster.
I have tested this kernel on A325FXXU3DWB8, A325FXXU2CWA6, A325FXXU2CVK3.
It also boots on one UI.
It was possible all thanks to @KrutosVIP and his amazing work here.
You can download it from here.
Just flash it in twrp with no additional steps required. Make sure to backup boot in case it doesn't boot.
NOTE: i switched to my kernelsu kernel which is available here on a32 threads. it still offers the same features but it has kernelsu
2. Penguin Gcam and FreeDcam:
I currently use Penguin Gcam from here.
It includes needed features. The only thing broken is slow motion.
I use FreeDcam Inorder to get access to all the other cameras including Ultra wide, depth sensor and macro camera. It works great. The only problem as of my writing on this thread is that changing the ISO manually crashes the app.
Fortunately @uluruman has created the files and presets for this app which work amazingly. You can check it out from here.
You can check out FreeDcam on the F-Droid store from here or on github from here.
3. Workarounds in Phh settings
Samsung Features:
1. Enable extended brightness range (fixes brightness issues)
2. Double tap to wake (optional. But you can use it if you like)
3. Enable access to all cameras (Important for FreeDcam)
4. Enable extra sensors
Misc Features:
1. Use alternate way to detect headsets [fixes headphone jack] (Optional in roms built after or during march patch since they already include my overlay.)
2. Force FPS (set to your desired refresh rate) [i use 90] (NOTE: some gsi's have issue with this on android 13 firmware. There is no fix to this. Upgrade to march patch because project elixir seems to have this fixed on march spl. Or try switching to another gsi or downgrade firmware)
3. Force alternative backlight scale, Allow setting brightness to the lowest (needed to fix brightness bar)
4. Force Enable Camera2API HAL3 (To make FreeDcam work)
5. Force Disable AD2P offload (Fixes bluetooth audio for android versions 12 and below.)
6. On newer gsis Bluetooth is broken. To fix Enable Use systemwide bt hal.
Reboot after changing settings is recommended.
4. Magisk Modules
1. Audio Modification Library, Dolby Atmos from Moto G Pro (NOTE: Moto core is required for this.) [Just a dolby atmos port i like]
2. Fullscreen/Immersive Gestures (Q-T) (Removes keyboard space bar at bottom)
3. mindetach, Youtube Revanced Extended (Youtube revanced extended and to detach it from playstore which prevents updating.)
4. Safetynetfix MOD, Shamiko (Dealing with safetynet issues and bypassing root checks in applications)
5. LSPosed - Zygisk (Mostly to get broken face unlock back since broken face unlock on gsi's due to unknown issue with android 13 vendor.)
5. Xposed Modules
The only Xposed module i use is universalauth. Using this module i can get face unlock back on every gsi due to a unknown issue with android 13 firmware or vendor. It works reliably.
Note: It broke in android QPR1 so dev posted a custom xposed link here.
Its broken on QPR2 again. The current workaround is to disable auto dismiss lock screen in face unlock app.
If it happens on QPR updates just remember the workaround.
Since It is unable to download the apks for libraries. You need to download Moto face unlock from here.
Then import it.
To allow restricted settings go to app info of face unlock app. press three dots on top right and allow accessibility. Entered pin if prompted.
Enjoy face unlock.
Over all Experience:
I am happy with using it. Its super smooth. Bugs are of course expected in generic system images. But they are good enough to use daily. Gaming performance in some cases is amazing. Enabling allow higher fps in games in some roms like crdroid unlocks many settings. e.g. i could play cod at 90Fps at medium. The fps hovered around 60-90 fps. It was amazing. If you set the performance mode to performance in game space in roms that have it, It works amazingly. A game restart is required and it works. Actually bumps the fps by a lot. I still do switch from gsi's to gsi's since sometimes i get bored or the gsi lacks some important things. For now In my opinion using a GSI is far better than stock firmware for me. The gsi's i would recommend are crDroid, Elixir, Pixel Experience, EvolutionX, LineageOS (TD based)
you can find more GSI's from here.
Hoping to hear about what you use on your device and how your experience is.
For One UI users. i have a thread on floating tweaks which enable many features and small tweaks to help phone run a lil bit faster check it out from here
Another camera app which can use all the cameras is Open Camera. It is more convenient than FreeDCam, has almost all the same features and even more, for example HDR and panoramas, but unfortunately, like FreeDCam, cannot shoot video from extra cameras out of the box. I tried to edit the settings file manually but it didn't help as it did with FreeDCam, I suppose there should be something else fixed in the app itself, but still I'm going to try again editing the settings in the future.

I used it before. i actually got the cameras to work once. i dont know how. I ditched freedcam for it. But idk maybe after i switched roms or an update they broke again? i think if you look in info it says Only 2 cameras present. Our limited camera2api only shows 2 cameras. While freedcam forces to use the camera no matter what.
I may be wrong i saw something abt this somewhere.
Maybe downgrading to an older apk might help. But i sadly dont have enough time for that
I also recommend using No-frills CPU Control CLASSIC to lower the min CPU frequency to 500 MHz and set govenor to "shedutil" (if it's not already). Also set Android System battery usage to "Restricted" (Settings > Battery > Battery Usage > Android System). That should reduce the battery consumption in the doze mode.

Open Camera can now shoot photos from all cameras, only shooting video does not work.

i have noticed big cores are alr at schedutil. although some roms report efficiency cores using "null" like no governer at all. But kernel manager says they use schedutil. I mostly set my governer to ondemand.

So i just installed crdroid 9.2 looks like gms was going crazy in the bg eating my cpu. The fix i found is to run this command.
su -c pm disable com.google.android.gms/.chimera.GmsIntentOperationService
this seems to fix it and i dont see anything broken. I searched it and looks like this issue does happen for alot of users.

That's only if you're using a gapps version. I am using the vanilla version of LOS, so there are basically only two com.google.android.[something] packages in my system: com.google.android.apps.googlecamera.fishfood and com.google.android.networkstack.tethering.overlay

yeah i m talking about people who use gapps. they are quite important in my day to day life otherwise i'd get rid of em
Just to update here. I tried magisk v26 and seems like it works fine. Although it had issues with my Dolby Atmos mods so i got rid of it and downgraded to v25.2 again. Otherwise all of my other modules were working fine and i didnt see any issues.
